These animations are incredible, but I think part of what makes them so is the presentation. Like, the glow on the weapon swings, or the fire bursts after Diamant's crit, or the dynamic camera angles...it's just really good.
I really like many of these critical hit animations, one of my favorites being Alfred's crit hit attacks in his unique promoted class Avenir. The way he repeatedly stabs (with a lance) or slashes (with a sword) his opponent is quick yet brutal, and if you watch closely he hits his opponent 3 times, of which you can take it that he does the same amount of damage with each one, being multiplied by three, which is basically what a critical hit is.
That "Roundhouse Slash" from Diamant for the Axe Crit as Successor class just is such an interesting one too, it's a more surprising motion that also just gives a sense of wind-up for a huge hit.
Fun fact: combat animations also change slightly with elevation. For instance if Diamant's axe crit occurs while he is at the top of a slope (like the stairs in Solm palace), he'll plant it in the ground at the top of the slope and slide all the way down to his opponent before the camera zooms in and the crit line is played.
Yeah I saw that vid but honestly it's not actually the animation changing. The models are just meant to interact with terrain in terms of how they're standing and elevation. They're not actually programmed to do a specific crit differently on terrain
@@BenFM Here it does the zoom in before Diamant even moves, he's already halfway through the attack there given the axe is already planted in the ground when the zoom occurs.
