That being said, there's more impact in GBAs animations at least from the sound design compared to 3 Houses. The axe animations in this tend to be REAL good too, with how weighty and hefty they are in both visuals and sound. Want a hit of dopamine and satisfaction? Use any Smash axe on an enemy you can Break, better yet if it's a crit on top of that.
I love this kind of animlation animation. Dragging the weapon on the ground just exudes so much power it's the same reason Diamant's swords crit animation so much.
though unfortunately for my run he got benched early b/c while he looked to be the frederick "carry your units thorugh the first 5 chapters of the story" trope, his starting stats didn't show it. with his exp gain being nerfed drastically out of the gate he got outclassed by units after 4 or 5 levels.
Seriously though Engage was my first Fire Emblem. I'm now playing though Three houses. The animations and graphics in Engage are seriously amazing. It never gets old. I'm enjoying the story of Three Houses and I do actually like Garreg Mach more than the Somniel. I like the Arena in the somniel but Garreg Mach feels more alive. The animations in three houses seem dull and boring in comparison to engage. The maps too are much better in engage although I'll never forget when I got to chapter 11 or 12 in three houses and realized wait a minute this map is byleths paralogue in engage.
Very glad to hear Engage is bringing folks in. If you have a 3ds I would genuinely recommend Fates Conquest, people rag on Fates rightfully for story and other stuff but the gameplay of conquest is very enjoyable and "fair hard" like engage in my opinion. Echoes is another option, underrated by many imo. The maps aren't anything crazy but the story and voice work are great and you have a lot of the broken stuff like 5 range archers and weird summon spells from 3 houses/other entries which is fun.
That's awesome! You should try the 3ds games too if you are enjoying them :) I think three houses has a better story etc. but the gameplay in engage is much better for me and oc the anims
@Dominotik Ivan Tulovskiy echoes and engage to me both represent simple stories done very competently. I rarely find myself not rooting for Alear/Alm, and while I feel more strongly about Alm I really just enjoyed both titles and have very few complaints to level. Also, to Echoes credit the whole dungeoning system is quite possibly the most unique and enjoyable departure from the FE formula to date... I found monastery a chore and Somniel cute but SoV had something special
I think the point of that is it takes so much more strength to actually drag it through the ground that when he raises it to attack, that same force he used was able to deliver a more powerful strike than just attacking normally. Think of how when trying to cut through something with a knife and you're pushing extra hard, until your arm suddenly jolts forward at the end when you do it.

Yunaka’s crit lines are so savage yet are balanced well with the character. Since she quits the youthful, childlike, fake voice when she speaks in the crit attacks. “Killer’s eye” more like killer’s mouth. I would really love to see a crit quote tier list separately for the characters and then for the emblems. That is if you want.
Diamant's is so cool to me. I love how he swings his sword into the ground before hitting the enemy. His axe crit is also pretty badass since he does a spin before you hit someone as well. I'm actually pretty sad that he loses these crit animations when he ranks up (to successor anyway. I don't know if it's the same for other classes.) I wish there was a way to choose which crit animations you want to see. Also, I don't know if it has been done yet, but I would love to see characters like Diamant crit in a completely different field (like a lance/bow etc.) That might be an interesting video idea.
I'm pretty sure animations are all based on the class. Like all paladins crit the same, with just the quote varying. Luckily characters have unique classes in many cases, giving them in effect unique crit animations.
I absolutely ADORE some of the animations in this game, and this does a good job showing off the best! I especially enjoy both of Veyle's unique crits, Divine Dragon's martial arts crit, Swordmaster's silly "anime slash" crit, and Thief's and Wolf Knight's dagger crits. My top fave of those being Veyle's unique tome's crit, with how beautifully done it is. As for suggestions for other animations to show off, i'm fond of Roy's Engage attack, Corrin's Engage attack, and Warrior's close range axe crit! Some of the summoned Emblems from Veronica might have some fun animations as well.
I think I prefer the overall presentation of Veyle's tome crit when she's evil with her line and the red eyes on zoom-in. I wanna say she also smirks in that one, but not too sure.
I feel like the worst battle animations are the engaged javelin/spear throw. They just hold like aa if they would throw and it just flies from their hane.
It’s not on here but the Warrior crit has to be one of my favs with them throwing the axe in the air then catching it mid air to spike it down is great.
The gba animations are one of the best in the series Engage make a spectacular job with the criticals, you can see the strength and exageration of the attacks like the gba

Is it alright if you could go back to FE: Echoes and do all the animations. Not just the special attacks or unique battle animations but also the generics on the enemy’s animations, to the basic class, starting from villager to the DLC's?
Mage Knight kinda borrows from the FE8 version, minus the hop forward. But yeah, Sage and Druid crit from gba is hype. You just know hell is coming for you once that plays.

For how cool the critical hits are, I still think the combat looks even better without them. The long back-and-forth with hit-dodge-counter-repeat (like the one you can view in training arena with the character and their emblem) really shows the fluidity of combat and highlights the animation even better. Don't get me wrong, the crits still look cool af and satisfying to pull, but they make the combat too short, implying the enemy dies in one blow (like in this video).

It's these anime that we love. This one has done it right all these years. GBA was drooling, but once they started going 3D, it was bland, up until now.

The GBA ones were my favorite. The ones in Path of Radiance were a little flashy. Radiant Dawn kind of took a downgrade somehow? Then the Awakening and Fates and even Three Houses crits were boring. This game finally brought back the flashiness, dramatic flare, and awesomeness. Some of Engage's animations even beat GBA. Some like Lyns criticals and swordmaster criticals still the best, but I'm super happy with Engage criticals still.
Such a massive step up from Three Houses it's not even funny. Everything, to the way that every character recovers from a launching attack and snapiness of dodges, to the weight of weapons and commitment to a suitable amount of gravity, makes turning animations off feel so much slower in comparison.
Yeah as great as 3H was in terms of story telling, voice acting etc. The combat animations were just really poor in comparison to Engage. 3H was a stepdown from Fates and SoV too.
I was looking forward to this game and I'm glad lots of people are loving/enjoying it! Unfortunately, the game isn't for me and the animations aren't winning me over 😩

Love how Kagetsu is basically just Vergil from Devil May Cry, definitely some inspiration taken from there in regards to his crit.

Monastery is very fun for your first run but it does become a chore when doing subsequent playthroughs.

Such a massive step up from Three Houses it's not even funny. Everything, to the way that every character recovers from a launching attack and snapiness of dodges, to the weight of weapons and commitment to a suitable amount of gravity, makes turning animations off feel so much slower in comparison.
Yeah as great as 3H was in terms of story telling, voice acting etc.
The combat animations were just really poor in comparison to Engage. 3H was a stepdown from Fates and SoV too.
still not as flashy as the GBA games haha
I was looking forward to this game and I'm glad lots of people are loving/enjoying it! Unfortunately, the game isn't for me and the animations aren't winning me over 😩
