    Kudos for the fix. But halfway through, I suddenly realised the whole £20k complicated mess was just designed to replace changing gear - which was always one of the nicest aspects of driving a Ferrari - I'm talking theb6-speed manual. This was when car designers disappeared up their own exhaust pipe...

    Seems to me the problem was the kink in the line all along. Glad you got it fixed and thanks for the in-depth info on the F1 trans.
    When I was 20 (1985)and lived in NY, I put in a huge stereo the afternoon before I had to drive 900 miles to college in GA. Finished the the install at 11:30 at night and nothing worked. Checked the entire install and couldn’t find a problem.
    I had to drive by myself to GA without a functioning radio. Got to My apt in GA, ripped everything out and installed it again and still nothing. Then I checked my fuses. The problem was the cigarette lighter/radio fuse.
    The lesson: Any problem, start by checking the simplest solution first before you start ripping stuff apart. Start analysis with a small solution to big problem first.

    Scott, you give me confidence to DIY tackle my F1 system, which has started acting up. Will only go into 1 or D. No 2 or above and no R. I'm thinking it's that the F1 pump not being able to build pressure. So maybe a bad motor, relay, or fuse. Or maybe air in the system.

    Awesome! Congrats! NOW, after this whole video series, did you ever actually isolate it down to one specific problem? There were so many different theories you tried to chase down, I lost track.
    What was the issue??

    • @millerfisherman1989
      @millerfisherman1989 4 года назад +4

      If I followed correctly, I think is EV3 line had a leak in it, and when he replaced it he kinked it When trying to feed it through the steel braided protective line, so it gave the same issue of EV3 line not working. Removed the airbox to get better access to remove the whole F1 pump with all the EV lines. With the steel braided protective line out of the car, he replaced the EV3 again Without kinking it and everything’s all good.
      Feel free anyone to correct me!
      Really enjoyed these videos, have a better understanding the F1 system now, now I’m less scared of it. Thanks Ratarossa!

    • @sycostylie1
      @sycostylie1 4 года назад +1

      @@millerfisherman1989 think that was a secondary issue with the reinstall, the original problem was the selector was worn and giving too much resistance to the actuators. So when he replaced the selector with the spare the secondary problem became clear.

    • @millerfisherman1989
      @millerfisherman1989 4 года назад

      @@sycostylie1 I'm not so sure, the initial problem was the leak, yes? After replacing the EV3 line, he didn't realize that it was kinked so he was trying to find another explanation, such as the slightly increased resistance in the actuator itself. Maybe switching the actuator parts may have been unnecessary and negligible when the eV3 line was still not functioning correctly from the Kink?

    • @Ratarossa
      @Ratarossa  4 года назад +2

      Ok yes, two issues firstly and obviously EV3 line was split, I then replaced it and stupidly kinked the line (hidden in the protective sock) but also and more importantly the notch movement on the actuator selector (so the up and down motion) was also a factor which when I get time i will strip apart and look into but i believe thats a failing bearing of seal.

      Mike Coyle thanks Mike. That’s part of the reason I do the channel to demystify this myth that Ferrari’s are untouchable, if you work in Jags you can work on Fezzas. The SW is the best bit of kit over bought to help me with the cars. It has over 100 other brands on there including Jag, I’ve not used it so can’t say how that compares with the functionality I get with the Ferrari connectivity but if it’s anything as good it’s gold dust. Hey Scott, I knew you would sort it. So, it was that hydraulic fluid line after all then, if the kink hadn't happened that would have fixed the problem ? Once again, displaying your logical trouble shooting skills and that's why I watch mate. Anymore 308 project on the way ? Cheers from Perth, Marc

      Hi Marc, thanks mate. I believe the notchy movement of the selector folk also had a part to play in the gear selector issue. At some point I will strip it apart and figure if its a bad bearing or worn seal that caused it

    Jeez that's a LOT of sealant. A skin is plenty. You now have sealant inside your transmission.

    Makes interesting viewing but also makes me soooo glad that I don't own a supercar (apart from the fact that the labrador + wife wouldn't fit). Fastest car I had was Honda S2000 (new, ran for 4 years, never went wrong).

    Interesting to learn that it is still (thankfully) seemingly just the pin in the actuator that tends to fuck up. Ferrari making a pretty penny from that little blighter..

    • @Ratarossa
      @Ratarossa  4 года назад +1

      yes I think its the pin and seals that mainly go on these. Someone is trying to put a repair kit together that will be much cheaper than the complete replacement

    Well done. Although I'm not an owner I do send away stuff to specialists for repair and overhaul on older Bentley's.
    Are there any independent repair shops that could have overhauled the complete F1 system and ECU thing. I'm thinking some kind of a dummy Lab set up. The fact that there's a ransom on your old parts someone is doing it.

      Yes theres a great guy here in the UK that does the actuator rebuild and f1 power unit. SS auto tech. I spoke with Simon a few times about the issue to understand the system and he is very knowledgable.

    That's bad ass. Good work figuring it out. Do you think it was mainly the hydraulic line that burst (and then the kinked one) and had little to do with the chunky selector or maybe the chunky selector is what caused the line to burst then the kinked line was just an added problem?

    • @Ratarossa
      @Ratarossa  4 года назад

      100% think it was a combination of the two issues that cause the problem

    Nice video :). With your DIY skills, what would you say roughly has been the annual maintenance cost on the 360? I’m handy with the spanner but some of those costs look eye watering!
