It is one of good receivers from the past. 👍I know the many work of cleaning old radios. Smokers' devices are always an uncomfortable big challenge to clean. Great job to make this nice one looking good and it works.

It was “midtier” in its day. But with lots of flexibility and options.

@@ArthurJS123 I have bought my R-2000 with VHF Converter inside for 155 € over ebay three months ago.. After cleaning it works great. A good choice for this price.

@@tuberadiohistory8093 Yes, you can look at the VHF converter in later videos here. The radio is sensitive, but the noise floor is somewhat high. This one has the Universal Radio mod with the tunable BFO, which they called “RIT”, making receiving SSB much easier.

I have one of these Kenwood R-2000 receivers. I turned it on this week and noticed the sensitivity is severely lacking. It's like the attenuator is on. It may need a full alignment. Nice videos of it.

Something is definitely wrong. It’s a very sensitive receiver. And, thank you! Arthur

@@ArthurJS123 I just sprayed the attenuator switch with CRC QD Electronic Cleaner and it helped a lot.
Did you change your RUclips name?

Around 1990 I bought a used Kenwood TS-430S from a local ham operator and he was a major smoker. I'm NOT a smoker so the very first thing was to completely remove the front cover (bezel), all the knobs & buttons, and soaked everything in hot soapy water. I then used an old toothbrush and scrubbed everything clean. I rinsed it in clean water and let dry before reassembling it. I also removed the upper and lower case halves and cleaned them in a similar fashion, but I let the transceiver chassis sit on my open-air porch to allow the smoke smell to diminish. Once everything was reassembled it looked like brand new. Cigarette smoke is DISGUSTING.

WelshWidgetMan2O1O Ageed. Check out a later video showing my Yaesu FRG-7. The nicotine was like yellow grease and tar mixed together.

Indeed. I've had radio gear that had been exposed to such extreme amounts of cigarette smoke the component in question felt sticky from all the tar, nicotine and 'goop' that collected on it's exterior. After handling it I'd have a yellowish oil-like substance on my hands. Talk about NASTY...

Hi! What voltages should be on the switching diodes of the input bandpass filters? The diagram shows 7.7 V at the outputs of the SN74LS145N chip, while at the input 4.5 V. I measure the voltage on the switching diodes of the bandpass filter, and the voltage on all diodes is 7.7 V, except for the range I selected, where it is 0.4 V. At the same time, it still accepts something, but the sensitivity is low. What could be the problem with SN74LS145N??? Thanks!
