Thank you for this review, Gilles. What a handsome and apparently great-functioning receiver, which must have given you many 100's of hours of listening pleasure. You must love having had it re-capped, too!
I see these still go for~$550+ on eBay, even now in May 2024!
    A. In your experience, how would this re-capped R-5000 compare with a new "high-end portable", such as the Tecsun PL-990(x) or H-501(x), for ...
    1) sensitivity on FM, MW, and SW?
    2) selectivity on FM, MW, and SW?
    3) audio quality (without plug-in external speaker)?
    4) use as a daily driver or "kitchen radio"?
    B. Why up on batteries?
    C. What chat room?
Thank you again. I really enjoy your channel.

Some of the noise in some bands can be eliminated by using the 12v input I did put on the rear panel, I was using this radio with an external linear power supply...

How do you use the scan button and also, I can't seem to change the time hour and minutes. Also, a couple of times, it locked in on 15000 and I could not change anything on the radio. then later, it worked just fine. Any help I would appreciate it.

For the clock you have to push that time set button in, then you gotta push both hour and minute together at the same time, THEN you can set the time and don't forget to push the time set button back out when you're done otherwise it just stays frozen in time.
