    Thanks for the first video of the doorbell!...but you didn't show us the most important aspects of the doorbell...i.e how it works with the smartphone app notifications and how fast it notifies and 2 way communication. Could you please do a follow up video showing its functionality via the app/notifications? Many thanks

      Hey Jay, thanks for your interest and for checking this out! Appreciate it. I haven't had a chance to test out many of those features yet. I literally had gotten it out of the mail not too long before shooting.
      That's a good idea though, maybe ill make a follow up soon. I haven't tested out the two way communication, but the doorbell notifications seem pretty responsive thus far in my short test.

      The app is the "make or break". Hardware has gotten good. The primary issue is whether the door can be reliably answered remotely in a timely manner.

      I will add here, there is no emoji support. And you can use the doorbell as an "intercom" without needing someone the ring it first

      @WarnerDiscovers  4 года назад +2

      In the meantime if anyone has any specific questions, feel free to ask here.
      I just did a quick test on 4G LTE standing near my front door and pressed the button and the notification was almost instantaneous. Less than 1 second FWIW.
      Dialog pops up of the camera once you tap the notification to bring you to Unifi Protect (which takes about 1 second to load the app)

    So I bought this doorbell without reading what you really need prior to buying it. Needless to say I ended upgrading my entire home network to Ubiquiti including a UDM Pro and 8 port PoE switch and added security cameras along with a network rack. What started out as a $200 purchase it ended up almost $2000 investment but really happy with the results.

    Pretty cool. I have slowly switched all of my cameras from Nest to Unifi but not sure I can switch over the doorbell. The face detection and package detection is just so worth it. I do have an Unifi G3 Pro mounted above my front door though as backup to the Nest Doorbell.

      You could do roughly the same with a Eufycam doorbell but the upside of no monthly fees.

      No unfortunately not, only with Unifi Protect / Ubiquiti software. Unless you enable RTSP and get creative for Amazon devices

    Thanks for making this video!
    Small suggestion, instead of these really hard cuts while you’re talking it’s probably better to re-record that entire segment after practicing what you want to say. The cuts are a bit jarring and distract from what you’re saying.

  • @belement
    @belement 4 года назад +1

    Gotta cut those wires back a bit you don't want any exposed copper going into the adapter at the doorbell otherwise you could have a short if they touch themselves.

    Great video, thanks for posting! Is there a way to use the doorbell without UniFi Protect? Just curious if you have to make the investment in both. Also super interested in what Jay said in his comment about the other features! Thanks again!

    • @WarnerDiscovers
      @WarnerDiscovers  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! I don't think so unfortunately. However, you can enable an RTSP stream manually like any of the other cameras on Unifi Protect. So you could theoretically use it on any other camera application.
      But the unifi protect is required for setup to my knowledge.
      Good to hear people might want to see a little more. I might make a follow up video. I just honestly had only had it for like an hour and didn't really use it a whole lot yet lol

    Warner, what kind of storage setup is required? I know Unifi sells their own thing but can you just buy the doorbell, link it to the app and go (without recording) or what? I'm trying to figure out what a good storage solution would be for casual use at most or if it is a hard requirement.

    • @WarnerDiscovers
      @WarnerDiscovers  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! In terms of storage, I personally use their Unifi Cloud Key Gen 2+. Would highly recommend for the price and what you get out of it. I am not certain if you can use the doorbell and link to the app without storage. I do know that it’s a requirement that you need to have Unifi Protect software running, so if you can/do run it on your own server and connect it up, theoretically you could run your own thing. Hope this is helpful.

      @@WarnerDiscovers Thank you, that was what I thought but I couldn't find anything in their marketing \ tech specs. I suppose it should just be treated like any other camera they sell. I picked up a cloud key gen 2. Thanks for your reply.

    Is there a chime option like Ring? We do not have a traditional chime box.

  • @santaclaus1291

    I had expected that bell would dial SIP numbers when pressing the button and provide an rtsp stream. Not everyone wants the notifications on a smart phone with a special app but usually on VOIP phones with some video capabilities. This looks a bit like a nerd toy with little family acceptance. (Disappointing)

    Great to see. I really thought when heard about this product last year it would be POE and Ethernet hardwired. But intrigued about Protect as a smartphone app...how quickly it rings on smartphone (over 4g not same network) and how quickly video can be displayed and connect to audio. My ring is sometimes fast, sometimes really slow. I also seem to go from strong connection to poor Wi-Fi throughout the day. Could you keep an eye on signal strength?

    • @WarnerDiscovers
      @WarnerDiscovers  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! I'll be sure to test this out soon. Agreed on the PoE, i thought it would be too but get that most people wouldn't have that at their door.
      Protect in general has been a good app IMO for all the cameras we use thus far.
      I will definitely get back to you in my experience with the ringing video notifications over 4G. Only played with it for a short period of time yesterday so didn't test out the 2 way comms and only tested the ring on Wifi once. Will get back to you!
