For the night vision shots, you should have considered turning off the infrared for all cameras except for the one being reviewed. The review conditions was basically the camera with a large bank of illuminators which can skew results.
I know, I realized that in post production :( But.. they all had the same unfair advantage so still a decent comparison. I didn't realize what an undertaking it was to mount and film them, ideally i would have left the rig up longer, but it took almost two weeks with the fogging issue and holiday so.. Next time :)

I agree putting the g3 flex under something like a porch is preferable, but I will say that I have had two g3 flexes on a telephone pole for 1.5 years. They have withstood direct rain and central California heat no problem. They have had no issues at all and I am beyond impressed for the price. I will note that since I had them so high up the IR was very poor (expected). I added some external IR illuminators and the night vision actually surpassed all my cameras except my g4 pro. Also it stopped bugs/webs/rain from ruining the image from the camera IR. They just don't really show up anymore since the IR is external from the camera. HUGE plus out in the country with so many bugs! Great review. Thanks.
Awesome feedback man! Nothing beats practical experience. I am about to do some IR illuminator test in advance of Ubiqitis new POE IR module.. this is some good info to add to the test. Thanks again!

Good to see smaller consumer cams getting pretty good results these days. Probably getting to the level of 'prosumer' stuff from 5-8 years ago which is actually a compliment.

Thanks for the great review! It has really made me re-think the camera choices for the Unifi Protect home surveillance system I am building. I'm now leaning toward using the G3 FLEX, exterior mounted under my roof eaves through the soffit, using UVC-G3-F-C. I have the G3 Pro on my driveway. It's mounted to a small radio tower directly exposed to the elements, 2 years and still going strong. Yeah the sensor quality isn't that great, but I like to use the optical zoom every now and then to catch a car coming up the street, plus the build quality is really great. I am looking to upgrade the G3 Pro to the G4 Pro though. But the number 1 camera for me right now is the Ubiquiti G3 Instant camera, only at 29$, WiFi only camera. It's pretty good. I will probably put more G4 Domes in. I'm still dealing with some IR reflection issues so I'd give the slight edge to the bullet. The smart detections are a game changer for me.
great vid. Would you not have the lab setup running for 72h before you take it to site? Then you can RMA items before the embarrassment of the fogging becomes an issue at the site.
I don't know why, but I think I'm going to get a G4 Pro for my residential...and it's not even like I like in a bad neighborhood I just love that quality lol, the G4 Bullet is so close though.
I think it’s important to add that if any of the cameras or ubiquiti devices is faulty, going through the RMA process is quite painful compared to customer support offered by competitors. You may argue that Ubiquiti is positioning their products towards companies, but still someone who is installing their products has to go through RMA process. First you have to pay for the return label, and make sure that you have purchased from authorized dealer and have receipt/invoice. Also turnaround waiting time is about 3-4 weeks. I did RMA on 3 items (G3, POE switch, CloudKey plus) so far and it’s disappointing.

My biggest concern was the MIC... looking at the chapters I didn't see any talk about Audio...I am probably passing over the INstant 4 because I heard the mic was horrible.
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what the fives look like.. they are an early access.. to be completely fair, I turn off the mics at most of my installs, so I'm not the best person in the world to give you a critique...
Great video and comparison. Been looking for a comparison video for a while. How low do you need to put the g3 flex and dome in order to capture faces as most cameras catch only top of heads...?
Nice stuff & great review! Would like to buy a few of these for around the outside of my house, but I really don't like the white color. I can mount them perfectly protected from the weather under my roof overhang, but I dread the look of those big white "snowballs" hanging there. I know, some would argue that all adds to the protection level, you know when people with malicious intent can notice the camera's from a mile away, but I much more favor the stealth approach. So does the wife, and we all know how important the WAF factor is. Ubiquiti really needs to release these things in black. Like really really. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised they haven't already.
@@DPCTechnology Thanks for the swift response. I've read that argument before: that the camera's put out so much heat, making them black would only make it harder for them to dissipate it. In my case that would not be a problem because I could hang them under my roof overhang, where they would never hang in direct sunlight, but yeah, if this is a problem, Ubiquiti should address this for sure.
Great comparison! With the night time tests all the cameras in the array had their infrared lights on at the same time and pointing/illuminating the same area, do you think using a single camera would have had a lower quality?
I'm curious how the new G3 Instant Camera will perform, especially compared to the G3 Flex. At it's price point and easy installation I can see it being a solid option for some indoor residential. Once available I'd like to use these to replace some Wyze cams I've got around the house. Perfect review btw, probably the best I've seen on the Protect Cameras.
I've had a G3 Instant for a few weeks, and it seems to be on par with the Flex in image quality and IR. I have a few dead spots at clients where these would make sense.
I’m looking at adding these to my UniFi Network. From this video it seems use the Bullet/Pro cameras outside and then get the G3 Flex to go inside where needed? Might even hold off on the inside cameras for any possible G4 Flex.
When you were testing outside during the day, approximately how many feet between the camera and the license plate you read with the zoom on the G4Pro? Great video!
Have you had any issues with the G4 bullet and the image quality? I saw on both Reddit and Unifi topics that some people complain about the quality of the image. I’m about to buy either a flex or a g4b for our outside covered porch and can’t decide.
I love my G4 Bullet, the smart detections make it a no brainer. If u don't need them and the mounting area has some cover (not direct weather) then the flex is great!
@@DPCTechnology thanks for the info. Yeah the porch it would be on is covered and it be far enough back to stay protected. It currently has a nest cam which apparently has a better sensor than the flex. Which makes me nervous as I don’t want to really downgrade the picture.
@@DPCTechnology .. One more question, if I purchase everything from you and install myself. Are you able to remotely configure? While I have a basic understanding, you obviously could do it in a fraction of the time. My system is small and for home use, I'm more concerned about my granddaughter getting around the pool in case somebody leaves the door open effectively defeating the alarm. I'm looking at 8 x G4 Bullets, UniFi Pro UDM-PRO, UniFi Switch PRO 24 PoE (for Wi-Fi 6 APs, etc), UniFi Switch PRO 12 PoE (for the actual 8 x cameras separate location), 4 x UniFi Switch 8 60W (basically for TVs and streaming/gaming; PoE just in case; I'll probably need more...), 4 x whatever the new Wi-Fi 6 version of "UniFi Access Point AC Pro" is called (one of them is dedicated to the garage and a few IoT devices e.g. Rachio, opener so something more basic I'm certain will be fine in 1 x place), and I'm thinking about the UniFi Protect Network Video Recorder (I'm aware the UDM Pro can do it, but one of the setup things is I don't want all that streaming data going back and forth unnecessarily). Lastly, I'd like the cheapest solution for 3-4 x 10 Gbps links to 2-3 PCs and a NAS. Basically the way I have the network setup is in my office are all the runs to the main switch and then underneath our family room TV I have all the runs for the eight cameras plus two separate runs to the office; just in case I wanted to keep everything air gapped and separate. Thanks. This probably would be easier to email. So if you have an email post it and then you can delete the email address or point me and the right direction.
@@DJaquithFL Sorry but we only do them for our clients in Florida/Georgia. You might want to look on the Ubiquiti channels on Facebook and Reddit for a local installer that can help you out.
The G4 Pro and similarly G4 Doorbell issues (randomly failing after a year or two) are both quite concerning - Ubiquiti don't seem to be handling either situation well. The G3 Micro would be great if it could be fit outside, though - that wide angle is great
I feel like the G3 Micro would be a camera I would use in smaller spaces like closets that contain inventory in my office and be able to keep a smaller profile while maintaining surveillance on a very expensive inventory.
Well done, I have needed this video, and this was fantastic! Thank you so much!!! Subscribed, this is great quality for someone with so few subscribers. Hoping to see more Ubiquiti videos!
At my desk I use an A73 with a 24 1.4 GM. At the studio stand up desk I use an A7s3 with Tamron 28-75 2.8. My desk setup is my daily webcam. It’s set up like @calebpike (dslr video shooter) did in his all in one desk setup. I use a rode ntg shotgun into a mix pre 3 for audio.
you should address that Ubiquiti like to "phase out" older gen models. After so long certain models are "no longer supported" - specifically their APs. I wonder if this is the same (or is going to be the same) for their Unifi Protect line of cameras. I would have ordered G3 cameras because I'm only needed 1080p. BUT with my experience with the APs, I thought it was best to just get the G4 bullet cameras because they are the "newest" gen models...
Looking the camera review, if you had turned on HDR on the G4 bullet and G4 Pro, the indoor office would have been a lot more natural looking and brighter. Right now they look a bit too dark but perhaps you have that dark office? I dont know. As for the G4 pro fogging issue, i have a model 1,5 months old and it didnt have the fog issue. Its been outside at that time, from +13Celcius down to -8Celsius so far. Works really well but it does cost a lot and G4 bullet is out of stock atleast here in EU ubi store so out of luck there. I also have couple of G3 pro's and i kind of agree with you there. The colors of red and black for example, are a lot different with G3 pro vs G4 pro where G4 shows them naturally, the other too bland.
I agree, I adjust my image quite a bit but I wanted to give an "out of the box" comparison. Everyone has a different idea of what they want when it comes to brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc. so instead of going down that path I reset them all to factory.
Question: how is the zoom and the quality of recordings on this camera? Not the live views. But the actual recored footage. From what I see you are doing everything live. But does it zoom in the same on recorded footage? This is the only question that is keeping me from purchasing this camera right now.
@@DPCTechnology They had some G4 Domes in stock today. I decided to purchase two with a UDM Pro. Mid price but has the G4 hardware. We'll see how they are.
On my G4 Doorbell I keep getting the "Doorbell camera is offline. No power or disconnected". Already have the proper transformer installed and am at 90% wireless connection. Anyone else seen or experiencing this ? Any suggestions to fix ?
Better talk about longevity, especially recommending for yourself the most expensive one. I have not seen any outdoor camera for myself last more than two years in Texas before it quits internally. On my third one (not ubiquiti but other well known brands). Installed a sunshade over it, see what happens. I think durability needs to be a larger concern with something like this that is rated outdoors, alot of them use the same parts more than one would think.
That's a really good point. I'll make sure I talk a little bit more about build quality and do some long-term tests. Another point is that ubiquiti often orphans older cameras and doesn't provide updates. Thanks for the feedback!
Man, we just took down all our cameras for an office renovation. I will make sure to get that angle in our next video when we put the new system up. The renovation is going to take a couple of months.
The trouble with this video is that there were already new cameras announced and at least in early access. Im pretty sure the G4 Bullet was already available
I have a quick question, please. Can you just use NVR and PoE switch to set up a security camera system? Also, how do you view the cameras on a big screen - TV or monitor (I don't see any "HDMI out" at the back of the Unifi NVR). Again, thank you for the great video, you save me some research time.

Everything in my home is unifi udm pro 24 port pro switch 2 wifi6 ap pros. My only issue with cameras is you can get same or better quality for much cheaper. And I hate it
There are pros and cons. I think the ubiquiti value is fair. It's not the most expensive and not the least. The UDM brings nice central management of a lot of things...
@@DPCTechnology I would especially be interested in seeing that review. In a residential setting I don't know how much of a use case I have for a dome camera on my property - maybe on the one corner of the garage, but I did like the wide view of the G3Dome.
@@DPCTechnology I really enjoyed this video, and I am looking forward to a G4 Dome comparison too (side by side with the G3 Dome and the G3 Flex ... since the Flex "won" in this video). I'm gathering information for our small church on which cameras to use for both inside and out. I think we are planning to go with G4 bullets outside at all entrances. I had intended to order G4 domes for inside, but after seeing the performance of the G3 Flex, I may rethink that. If the G4 Dome is so much better than the Flex that it warrants the extra money, we'll stick with it, but maybe the Flex will serve us well. Being a small church, the cost will be a really big factor, but quality of video matters too.
The only thing I would say is with all of those camera's on at the same time at night. It is a slightly mislead video. Because there is an awful lot of ir being sh from all of the camera's at the same time. Not saying this is bad because it was a great comparison between the cams.. thank you.
The good news is it resolves itself pretty quickly and it's a really nice camera long-term. But yes, it's silly that such an expensive camera would have an issue at all
The company stock is at $300 per share and they have nothing to sell. Everything is sold out unless you want to pay scalpers prices for the cameras on Amazon.
If you install these for clients, and want them to work "right away", you might want to try running all the cameras for 72hrs first on your own site to get rid of any condensation, then repack them, then redeploy them.

@@DPCTechnology thanks, 👍
Nice stuff & great review! Would like to buy a few of these for around the outside of my house, but I really don't like the white color. I can mount them perfectly protected from the weather under my roof overhang, but I dread the look of those big white "snowballs" hanging there. I know, some would argue that all adds to the protection level, you know when people with malicious intent can notice the camera's from a mile away, but I much more favor the stealth approach. So does the wife, and we all know how important the WAF factor is. Ubiquiti really needs to release these things in black. Like really really. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised they haven't already.
Yeah, I think a 3rd party should make a skin (or skins) .. Not sure about heat, the G4 Pro puts out some heat for sure..
@@bartdg282 Agreed.. Offer a $15 skin for that application and id think u'd sell like crazy. Or better yet offer everything in black or white!
Great comparison!
With the night time tests all the cameras in the array had their infrared lights on at the same time and pointing/illuminating the same area, do you think using a single camera would have had a lower quality?
yes, that was my mistake, in all my other videos since this one I turn them all off. :(
I'm curious how the new G3 Instant Camera
will perform, especially compared to the G3 Flex. At it's price point and easy installation I can see it being a solid option for some indoor residential. Once available I'd like to use these to replace some Wyze cams I've got around the house.
Perfect review btw, probably the best I've seen on the Protect Cameras.
I have one on order, will be next video after G4 Dome this week.. :)
The G4 flex would be amazing depending on price..
Presumably these night time images are not actually representative, since all cameras have IR LEDs that illuminate the area?
Yeah I later videos I fixed that problem but yes there is IR cast from everything
When you were testing outside during the day, approximately how many feet between the camera and the license plate you read with the zoom on the G4Pro?
Great video!
That was 40 to 50 feet away.
@@Subliminal87 The G4 sensors are really nice and the smart detections make looking through the data so much easier. You won't be disappointed.
@@DPCTechnology thanks!
Excellent comparison information! Question .. UniFi's G4 line will the AI "Person Detection" work in an air-gap installation?
I don't see why it wouldn't.. It will..
I'm looking at 8 x G4 Bullets, UniFi Pro UDM-PRO, UniFi Switch PRO 24 PoE (for Wi-Fi 6 APs, etc),
UniFi Switch PRO 12 PoE (for the actual 8 x cameras separate location), 4 x UniFi Switch 8 60W (basically for TVs and streaming/gaming; PoE just in case; I'll probably need more...), 4 x whatever the new Wi-Fi 6 version of "UniFi Access Point AC Pro" is called (one of them is dedicated to the garage and a few IoT devices e.g.
@@DPCTechnology .. I'm in Florida.

The G4 Pro and similarly G4 Doorbell issues (randomly failing after a year or two) are both quite concerning - Ubiquiti don't seem to be handling either situation well. The G3 Micro would be great if it could be fit outside, though - that wide angle is great
Ubiquity has been hit or miss on support..
I feel like the G3 Micro would be a camera I would use in smaller spaces like closets that contain inventory in my office and be able to keep a smaller profile while maintaining surveillance on a very expensive inventory.
Yeah, i would look at the g4 instant
Indeed, have you reviewed the Ubiquiti PTZ yet?
@@johnathanruiz-pineda9610 I have.. I'm about to do my 18 month update on it.
Well done, I have needed this video, and this was fantastic! Thank you so much!!! Subscribed, this is great quality for someone with so few subscribers. Hoping to see more Ubiquiti videos!
Thanks for the feedback!
The G4 documentation said it supports flash memory, does it have an SD card slot for recording playback from the app?
Which one?
can you set up Unifi cameras with audible alarm? Or would Ring spotlight cameras be better for audible alarm/siren?
You could with something like www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-unifi-protect
@@DPCTechnology do they got anything like this for home assistant ?
@@chriscarr1791 I am not sure. The reddit groups is where i would look..
What camera do you use for filming at your desk? Excellent bokeh.
This video made me subscribe, thank you for doing this.
Thanks for the kind feedback!
how quick are the push notification for alerts? im very interested in the G4 Pro & Bullet combo with UDP
Just tried it out and they are super quick!
you should address that Ubiquiti like to "phase out" older gen models.
They are notorious for doing the same with their cameras.. U r correct that buying the newer ones will protect you from this practice a little...
Cool. i'll have to link to this video on my channel!
Thanks!
So is the g4 bad still?? Just ordered 5 of them
It's a great camera. You'll be happy
@@DPCTechnology Understandable! Thanks for the review.
what is the largest camera deployment or site you had done with ubiquiti?
25 cameras. I typically use protect for systems with 16 or less cameras. And I would say the average size is 6-10.
Question: how is the zoom and the quality of recordings on this camera? Not the live views. But the actual recored footage. From what I see you are doing everything live. But does it zoom in the same on recorded footage? This is the only question that is keeping me from purchasing this camera right now.
Which camera are you looking at?
Usefull review, were all the cameras running at the same time? if so there must be more ir lighting than in a real world situation
They were. It was my mistake. In all the later reviews I turn them all of and review each individually.
@@DPCTechnology thanks for clarifying
Is the micro discontinued?
I think so, it didn't makes sense with the instant in the lineup at 80% less cost.
Thanks for the info.

Why does no one show the FOV's when they are mounted in the corner of a room?
Man, we just took down all our cameras for an office renovation. I will make sure to get that angle in our next video when we put the new system up. The renovation is going to take a couple of months.
@@DPCTechnology Thank you :)
I bought 4 - 4G Pro's and am very worried about how dark the images are.
You can adjust the image to taste. Or are you talking about the ir emitter?
The trouble with this video is that there were already new cameras announced and at least in early access. Im pretty sure the G4 Bullet was already available
These were all that were out of embargo at that point. The G4 Bullet is in review. I have reviewed the G4 Dome and G3 Instant in subsequent reviews.
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback!
@@tdakov Yes u can, I use the Unifi ViewPort to display on TV www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1560696-REG/ubiquiti_networks_ufp_viewport_unifi_protect_viewport_poe.html?ap=y&smp=y

I wish the cameras had time stamps in the video feed...
Sorry, my mistake, I added them in later videos.
@@DPCTechnology thanks. That is a game changer
Great Review. I wish the G4 Dome would come out already.
Agreed, that would be great addition!
It is now showing up on the UI store for pre order, would be interested to see how this performs.
@@robwideman2534 I ordered one last week, will do a side by side comparison with the G3Dome
Dang! Point that camera down to keep the horizon out of the view so it doesn't get blasted by the sun.
Yeah I was making it as hard for the camera as possible.
No Unifi G3 instant camera?
have one on order :) will review
The only thing I would say is with all of those camera's on at the same time at night. It is a slightly mislead video. Because there is an awful lot of ir being sh from all of the camera's at the same time. Not saying this is bad because it was a great comparison between the cams.. thank you.
Agreed, I should have turned them off in software.. They all got the same unfair advantage but I agree, I was an idiot.. LOL, Next time!

I'm glad I didn't purchase the pro. That fogging issue is crazy for such an expensive camefa
Crazy
If only g3 flex and g3 instant was in stock
I know man...
If you install these for clients, and want them to work "right away", you might want to try running all the cameras for 72hrs first on your own site to get rid of any condensation, then repack them, then redeploy them.
Great point. Testing is essential..
Fogging is still an issue in 2022, FYI.
