    At first glance, I thought this was a lot of extra work. But if you're only dealing with a wall wart to plug into the wall, this is exactly the way I would do it. However, seeing how that light switch was so close I would've probably cut a box intothe wall next to the switch plate and installed a standard doorbell chime and wired it into the switch wiring. Then your low-voltage wiring could've popped out where the doorbell is. Job done

    • @debi7039
      @debi7039 9 месяцев назад +13

      My first thought was the same about just wiring directly to the AC power source. Then both outlets would be usable without a random wire coming out of the wall with a plug. Then I thought about it and figured the reason he didn't tap into the power directly was because the plug adapter to the ring camera converts the ac current down to dc current. Without the adapter plug doing this, his ring camera would probably be irreparably damaged by too much voltage.

    Nice idea!! Question: Can you leave the ac transformer plugged in all the time or would have to unplug it when you see the battery if fully charged. Just wonder if it overcharge the battery.

    • @marks4840
      @marks4840 9 месяцев назад +2

      Cell oxidation occurs with lithium-ion batteries. This is an inherent result of using Li-Ion batteries and occurs during the charging process. Eventually, too many electrons are moved to the point that the battery retains “full” power, but actually unable to deliver it to the device, which results in reduced capacity.
      So it’s “better” to leave a device permanently plugged compared with charge and use.
