LMFAO I must have missed the frosty makeup memo since I lived in the sticks (graduated class of 04) we were still very much into obsessively powdering our faces, and were obsessed with either the matte black messy grunge-inspired eyeshadow for the artsy kids or matte blue liner for the preppy girls.
when i think about 2000s i think of everyone having bleached hair with bad hair extensions overly spray tanned silvery frosty smokey eye with shimmery bronzer and frosty pink lips
100%. I still sometimes do my eyeliner old skool with that stupid foam applicator once in a while when I'm *really* feeling myself and want to feel young again, taking that matte black eyeshadow liner all the way into that tear duct and putting on the most "artfully smeared" reddish brown lipstick a la Shirley Manson from Garbage, and trying to look like the girls from Jack Off Jill circa their "sexless demons and scars" album.
I was obsessed with Cindy Crawford, and lowkey I still am. Most supermodels had these beautiful colored eyes, except her, she had brown eyes. I grew up in a culture where the ultimate ideal of beauty were light skin and colored eyes, and brown eyes were the color of poo. She helped me embrace and see, that brown eyes are also beautiful, and I love her for that. ❤❤
I remember several forgotten 90s makeup trends - eggplant/plum lips, frost colored lip gloss or lipstick; blue eye shadow and eye shadow that was blended up to the brows. I liked all the models Zabrena mentioned in this video. But I wanted to add a huge fan of Beverly Peele, the iconic Veronica Webb. Also, tv shows like Fashion TV and MTV's House of Style had a huge impact on the way we look at fashion and makeup.
Oh my goodness, one of my FAVORITE videos you’ve EVER done! Viewing it way later....3+ years later...but so glad I am. Better late than never! I’m a 90s kid and this was so enjoyable and nostalgic; the era of the Supermodel. Wow! So incredibly fun and what a fantastic look!! Yes, neutrals and lined lips-yay! Thank you for this wonderful video!
Omg this is my favorite historical makeup look that you have ever done!! You have made my day! I was in high school in the 90s and my black eyeliner and nude lip liner was it! I can still recall using my long black wet n wild eyeliner, mac nude lip liner (that I saved babysitting money up to use) and finishing it off with my brown cover girl lipstick. God I miss those days❤️❤️
Missy Marriott I hear ya girl! I graduated high school in '94 and this brought me right back! All my babysitting money went to the same things, I still have a soft spot in my heart for Revlon's Toast of New York!!
MakeupFiend lol I graduated in '95 and I still have a soft spot for my black eyeliner and nude lips! To this day I can put my makeup on in the car and sitting on the floor in my bedroom in front of the mirror. Girl I worked my ass of babysitting in high school and it went to makeup, clothes and CDs...love those days❤️❤️ Don't even get me started on big hair!
MakeupFiend AHHH!!! I graduated in '95 and I totally remember Toast of New York too! Isn't that crazy!?!? I don't remember the names of people I went to High School with but I remember the makeup!
I remember during the 90's Nars makeup just came out and I loved it. My first matte nude was Honolulu Honey and they still make it. I still like to wear it.
I was more grunge-y in the late 90's when I was in high school. For my senior photo, my parents opted to have my makeup professionally done on-site like the school had offered, and the artist did a dark brown lip liner with a light pinky-nude lipstick, and navy blue liner in my waterline. My lips looked HUGE and reminded me of lady-parts from porn I downloaded off of Limewire with my slow as heck dial-up internet (for educational purposes, of course?). When I saw the pictures, I cried to the school until it was redone the way I did my own makeup. I used those stupid foam applicators in matte black eyeshadow and just ringed around the entire eye, and smudged (literally smudged) on dark brown lipstick like all the rest of the grunge/wannabe punk rock kids, then put about a pound of L'Oreal powder foundation on my face with the included velour puff. God, makeup was so much simpler then. haha.
Gorgeous!! I have a ring binder stuffed full of magazine make up tutorials from the 90s and early 2000s, I would collect them from Sugar, Bliss, Shout and Mizz when I was a teen and later from Glamour when it first started. That folder was my pride and joy, I would spend hours picking my favourites and organising the plastic wallets inside. I still have it now, so much nostalgia! (So much brown lipstick and bronzing pearls!) 😊☺
I loved the 90's...I remember taking the black liner all the way into the tear duct...and lip liner...omg...always had to have lip liner. My favorite 90's brown lip color was Mary Kay Toffee.
Words cannot express how much I love this! I graduated in 94 and you NAILED this!!! I hate watching these 90s videos on almost every other channel because they always add something in that we just didn't do then. Don't call it a 90s look, call it 90s inspired, if you want to change things! We 90s girls are very protective and particular about the style of our era!!!! Love your channel SOOOOO much, you're fantastic!
you are so beautiful! your eyes are stunningly beautiful! the brows are so detailed because that was exactly how the 90s models had it; I remember when I was a little kid, I used to sneak on my older sister' s bedroom as I would get her magazine of the 90s models and fashion and especially the Kevyn Aucoin makeup book and she never knew, hee hee! anyway you really look like one♥
I love this look! I was a teen in the late 90's and remember never missing an episode of "House of Style." I'm going to have to dig out my Kevyn Aucoin books and try out a fun look for tomorrow.
I mentioned Kevyn Aucoin on reddit's MUA the other day and a bunch of people chimed in with "who is that?" Broke my makeup heart. I still use his books regularly.
OMG!!!! I ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️ the THROWBACK to the 90s look!! I grew up in the 90s as well and when you said VCR, I would do the same thing- record music videos so I could learn all the words & dance moves to the songs. And then me & my friends would perform then at our school dances 😂😂 ahhh so many memories!!!
Beautiful. Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford were my favorite models of the 90s. I was born in 82 so most of the 90s I was in my teens and I still love the way fashion and makeup and hair was back then and wish those styles would come back
Omg. We must’ve grew up in the same era. I can relate to everything that you said. I loved the supermodel era. Remember when RuPaul also paid homage to the diva models with the song called “supermodel”? Loved it & this tutorial. As for my favorite feature of the supermodel era? I like the makeup but I was all about the big, glam, voluminous hair.
I LIVED for gothy-grungy 90's makeup-- the smoky black eye applied hastily/messily with those stupid foam applicators, lining ALL AROUND the eye, (definitely emphasizing that inner corner) and very messily applied brownish or red lipstick (a la shirley manson from Garbage in that ICONIC picture with her in the blue pleather-looking shirt) And such matte, matte skin. We OBSESSIVELY piled on the powder.
I LOVE this!!! I've been watching Friends the past few days, and have been DYING over all the 90s fashion, especially the makeup!! Absolutely gorgeous!
Oh Zabrena!!! This hits me all in the feels. I graduated in '93. I was a kid who grew up the Breakfast Club, MTV, Thrift shopping, and the wrong side of the tracks. My girlfriends and I would "dub" mixed tapes, and YES record, MTV videos. LOL. We loved George Michaels. May he RIP. Big hair, and lots of eyeliner and brown lipstick. I remember the day, that Cindy Crawford, was debuted as the new PESPI girl. The commercial, that made all the boys ( and men) go gaga! Such a great time. It doesn't seem all that long ago, but things sure seemed simpler even then. Thank You for this WONDERFUL throwback. It has brought back such wonderful memories.
I'm loving all these throw back and vintage looks! Is it possible for you to do an Elizabeth Taylor or a 70s Dolly Parton? Those are ones I'd love to see!
Bianca toni Oh my god, me too!! I watched the Top 20 Countdown every night with my face practically pressed against the screen wondering how many cans of Aqua Net Adam Curry went through in a week to get that head of blond hair so HUGE!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Bianca toni Oh man, I miss Headbangers Ball! My husband and I were just talking about that. My oldest son was just looking through some of our band tees asking us who bands like Rage Against the Machine, AC/DC, Skid Row, Ozzy, etc were. My husband just said Sacrilege and kicked him out of the room 😂
It blows my mind still that the 90's and the whole grunge movement was over 20 years ago. Also the fact that the younger generation doesn't know who those bands are. In my mind there is nothing remotely close to how awesome they were. I guess every generation thinks there's is best but I know Gen X had the best stuff growing up. LOL
You forgot NIKKI TAYLOR!!! She was thee kween super model back in the day, and rightfully so! There wasn't a magazine without Nikki in it anywhere. Ahhh the 90's... they were simpler times 😏 lol
Wow, the heavy contour reminded me so much of the glamorous looks my mom and my aunts all wore in the 90s! That waaay before RUclips and you're right - the DID use magazines (Mom loves Vogue) to study those techniques! My favorite trend was Tyra Banks' kohl black eyeliner all around her eyes. She looked so feline and sensual. I was mesmerized!!! Thanks for another great tutorial!
Wow, so many memories, but I remember thinking Helena was sooo beautiful, especially in Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" video (tho i was too young to watch it..my mom wouldn't let me, haha). Awesome vid, Zabrena. Thank you
Zabrena!! Thank you so much for doing actual makeup tutorials still! I feel like my entire YT feed is just product reviews...which I love, but you are one of the only people who still do great makeup looks. Please never stop because they are stunning, as always. xox
I was QUEEN of the Revlon Street Wear and (God help me) body glitter when we went to the clubs on the weekends, lol. I was all about brown, dark purple and nudes. *sigh* everything old is new again and I really, really, really wish Revlon would come out with the Street Wear again as a retro thing.
WHOA. Just.... whoa! I hate to compare, but honestly, this case warrants it. I've never seen a 90s tutorial on RUclips that's so accurate *and* so gorgeous on the artist. Beautifully done, Z!
The 90s yes!!! I was in my 20s and would have DIED to watch one of your tutorials, Zabrena! My mom did not know anything about eyeshadow application and I was desperate to learn something about it!!! These supermodels you cited were all over the gigantic billboards in Paris where I was working. My favorite was (and still is) the gorgeous Karen Mulder 😍. Thank you so much for recreating an all time favorite look 😘😘.
Kevyn Aucoin was a master at makeup, he is still my makeup God if you will, I still look through his books for inspiration to this day. And he made it look so easy. RIP Kevyn, you are so deeply missed. I loved this, you nailed the look as usual.
This was so nostalgic for me! I graduated high school in '97. I was all about the black eyeliner and lip liner then 👍🏼 I was also obsessed with Cindy Crawford. I even got her workout VHS tape. She worked out to Seal's song "Crazy" throughout the whole video. It was awesome 😂 This is one of your prettiest looks IMO. Thanks for sharing!
Sometimes for special events where I'm being photographed because this was how my mom did makeup on the rare occasions I was allowed to wear it(except this was before I was *officially* allowed to buy and own makeup). My mom herself was more grunge and that's still reflected today, and she hates the thick brows of today also. I'm too young to remember much of the 90's except the music and TV and maybe Tyra Banks but I do still love what the makeup looks like. Also, Kevyn Aucoin and his perspective on makeup and the products he comes out with still gives some of the most beautiful results.
Did you read Kevyn Aucoin's Allure column every month like I did?! I remember screaming when he had his cameo on Sex & the City! He seemed like such a kind soul.
I read my mom's Cosmo magazines as a child in the '90s...I LOVED their makeup! I too use a bit of inspiration from their makeup. I do a pinup look on the daily but '90s girls would see the similarities!
I think my favourite model of the 90s was Jasmin Le Bon. Also, she is Simon Le Bon's wife from Duran Duran! They were quite the powerhouse couple, and gorgeous to boot! She is actually considered one of the first women for whom the term "supermodel" was coined!
Really? I didn't know that because Janice Dickinson claims that she was the first model to be refered to as super. Meanwhile, it was actually Twiggy who held that distinction.
Out of all the "Historically Accurate" videos you've made, I've never seen you as EXCITED as you are for this one! After watching, though, I feel there's not a whole lot different than trends today. Certainly it's somewhat of a "no-no" to put black eyeliner on the lower lash line, and to blend the heck out of contour, but other than that, I've not seen much else that's different. Anyone agree?
Lol this is what I tried to describe in the 80s video. This is how we did our eyeliner then! But not in the tear duct corners it just sorta slid down in there over time (no good eyeliners back then). Loved the brown shades for this look btw.
Oh man I loved this look! by far my favorite! I feel like the grunge 90s make up had the same really blackly lined eyes too. Even more than the make up which is flawless their hair styles then! I adore them! flappy and bouncy and just total glam. Yes 2000s although I do have to say compared to other eras that had some stand out styles that made the eras unique the 2000s aren't all that impressive. We already kind of know them since the 2000s are still happening and the early 2000s was a bit of the 90s style just changed in one way or another.
So happy to find a redhead makeup artist! I'm always shy about some coloes in makeup and lipstick because I'm a redhead too, but seeing you makes me feel so confident with colors not neutrals, thank you you're amazing and gorgeous!!!!
I am so so glad I found Zabrena's channel and I tell you why She still does tutorials on the regular!! All the other Beauty channels have strayed from them it seems all they do is product reviews and that's OK but show me how to make a whole look like this. I keep hoping they will get back to it I've stopped watching so many channels because they review 1 highlighter and that's your show for the week but not Zabrena!! She will test 5 of them and then show you dupes and I love it 💞 💞 💞 so much love 😁
Love the look! When u were blending in the lip liner I was like "u don't need to!" because of the heavy line that was common in the 90s 😂 but I loved the outcome! MAC is available at my ulta and I'm DEFINITELY getting that liner and lipstick!
The word "Supermodel" was first coined in the 80's and it referenced (the very first) cross-over models - - until that time, models were either print models or runway models. The ladies called "supermodels" were the first to do both, hence super-model, to distinguish from "merely" model. I'd love for this makeup style to come back! I loved it! And you did a great job!!
Having been a teen in the 90s, I guess that's where my makeup inspiration came from. Until I watched this video, I honestly hadn't thought about it. But my everyday makeup is so 90's, lol.
I was just graduating in 91 , and believe me I don’t miss the makeup from this time frame. I’m one of those people that were glad to move on to more modern makeup.
this was great! Could you perhaps consider doing a make up like in "the Nanny"? Fashion and Make Up was a really big part of the appeal of it back then, and I would loooove to see your take on that. :)
I grew up in the eighties, but I remember the nineties supermodel craze well. I always had the lip liner in Spice by Estée Lauder on hand. It's a brown nude. It's still a staple in my collection.
You killed it!!! Omg I love it so much. I can't wait to recreate it tomorrow. I also could not get enough of watching that Faith video. I was obsessed with these girls faces. Obsessed!! Awesome job beautiful 💕
Do vaporwave!!! It's a newer music genre from the 2010s, very much based on the 80s and 90s and the music is just amazing. There is also a genre of artwork dedicated to it. I'd love to see you do that!!!
I was on vacation watching this tutorial last week. I ordered this pallet and it's set to arrive today! If I had a dime for every piece of makeup I bought because of you!! 😉
Can you do a 2000's glam look with the bronzer, glossy lips and frosty eyeshadow?
early 2000s frosty makeup is an underrated thing of beauty lol i second this : )
LMFAO I must have missed the frosty makeup memo since I lived in the sticks (graduated class of 04) we were still very much into obsessively powdering our faces, and were obsessed with either the matte black messy grunge-inspired eyeshadow for the artsy kids or matte blue liner for the preppy girls.
Badgerpaws Mcgee See Britney Spears' makeup in the Oops I did it again video
Early 2000s makeup still makes me cringe but I also secretly love it so much, so much nostalgia!
when i think about 2000s i think of everyone having bleached hair with bad hair extensions overly spray tanned silvery frosty smokey eye with shimmery bronzer and frosty pink lips
The little factual annotations you added remind me of VH1's POP UP VIDEO, anyone else remember that show!!?!?
Beth S. ohhh loved that show
Beth S. OMG Yes!!!
Beth S. YES!!
Was going to say the same lol!
Pop! Pop! Pop up video 🎶
I live breathe and die for 90's grunge clothes and makeup. It's my style and it's what I wear every day

You should do a 90s makeup look with only makeup they had back then!
hard to when they probably discontinued products....
Most items I used back then still exist today.
they have probably reformulated though so the name might be the same but the actual product wont be
Araceli Perez all that makeup is probably expired too
I'm getting such amazing Debra Messing vibes here 😍😍😍
My exact thought, and I also think her best look.
Every time I watch one of her videos I get that vibe

LOVE this so much! I graduated from high school in '98 and the '90s is still my makeup comfort zone
Susie Trentham CLASS OF 98!!!! 🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋
Class of '98 as well. I would wear that look everyday if I could.
Me too! Class of '98 rules! 😎
Class of 98 too!!
I'm class of 97, and I still love wearing matte foundation and lip colors. :)

Yup I graduated in '96. I remember my lipstick choice back then was Clinique's Ripe Raisin.
Bianca toni OMG I loved that color! That and Clinique's Bamboo Pink❤️
I remember during the 90's Nars makeup just came out and I loved it. My first matte nude was Honolulu Honey and they still make it. I still like to wear it.
Ah, the '90s... I'm a big fan of the "steak lips" look that happens when people pair brown lip liner with a red or pink lipstick. Bwahaha.
I was more grunge-y in the late 90's when I was in high school. I love dramatic makeup! My daily makeup always includes a Smoky eye. ❤ Loved this look
My my favorite video freedom!! RIP I was 80s and 90s girl!!! Love your look DOLLFACE💞💕💞💕💞
What I've been waiting for! Do early 2000s next!
I feel like this could be done as a modern-day look, no? This is beautiful!
Without caring about others, yes, you can do it.
I love this look! I was a teen in the late 90's and remember never missing an episode of "House of Style." I'm going to have to dig out my Kevyn Aucoin books and try out a fun look for tomorrow.

I had a perm and the puff bangs.
I'm loving all these throw back and vintage looks! Is it possible for you to do an Elizabeth Taylor or a 70s Dolly Parton? Those are ones I'd love to see!
I love the metallic smoky cat eye-it’s like a TRIPLE THREAT!! Cool neutrals and metallics are a MUST-and BLEND!!!
Yes !! I'm a 80-90's girl!! I still wing out my eyeshadow some instead of winged liner .
Loved Kevin Aucoin. I remember falling in love with him when he first was on Oprah! I have all his makeup books
Oh the 90s supermodels. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. I can almost see myself mesmerized by "Freedom" and fashion mags...
Such great memories from the 90's. I remember that George Michael video. I was an MTV addict!
Bianca toni Oh my god, me too!! I watched the Top 20 Countdown every night with my face practically pressed against the screen wondering how many cans of Aqua Net Adam Curry went through in a week to get that head of blond hair so HUGE!!! 😂😂😂😂😂

Good memories! Linda Evangelista will always, always be the most exotic-looking 'supermodel' to me. Still so stunning. Great video!!

Yaaas I'm so glad you mentioned Kevyn Aucoin! So glad you did this look!
Beautiful. Remember those days very well.
I loved the models hair filling out the whole front magazine! You nailed it!

Kevyn Aucoin was a master at makeup, he is still my makeup God if you will, I still look through his books for inspiration to this day. And he made it look so easy. RIP Kevyn, you are so deeply missed.
I loved this, you nailed the look as usual.
That look is absolutely gorgeous on you!!!!
Love it!! As I graduated high school in 92, I recognize some things I do today in this tutorial that were definitely influenced by that era!
The best and most authentic 90s supermodel tutorial on RUclips!!!! ❤️
Too Funky is a great music video with supermodels
I think my favourite model of the 90s was Jasmin Le Bon. Also, she is Simon Le Bon's wife from Duran Duran! They were quite the powerhouse couple, and gorgeous to boot! She is actually considered one of the first women for whom the term "supermodel" was coined!
Really? I didn't know that because Janice Dickinson claims that she was the first model to be refered to as super. Meanwhile, it was actually Twiggy who held that distinction.
Most beautiful look
I love this look! I'm usually drawn more toward bright colors but I think the 90's dramatic look is beautiful.
Gosh, you are literally flawless! You are goals!
Did the 90's supermodel justice w this one Zabrena😍
OMG YOU NEED TO KEEP THIS HAIR COLOR. Better than any other color I have seen on you. This color makes you look so young. Amazing.
Beautiful! I love this look. I also was in love with the super model face.
So happy to find a redhead makeup artist! I'm always shy about some coloes in makeup and lipstick because I'm a redhead too, but seeing you makes me feel so confident with colors not neutrals, thank you you're amazing and gorgeous!!!!
I LOVE this look.
Beautiful as always. I want to do this look. Happy Monday God bless.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this look!
Thank you for this video!! 90's glam supermodel makeup is my favorite makeup. So beautiful!!
Your haircolor is everything is this video!!!!
This will now become my everyday eye makeup! Thank youuuuuu😍😍😍😍
I actually recreated this look on myself several days in a row and I got SO many compliments on it
I am so so glad I found Zabrena's channel and I tell you why She still does tutorials on the regular!!
I look forward to all your vids every week. They just make me so happy. Thank you for all your hard work.
I did the same thing with the George Michael video 'Freedom'. 🤗😍
Gorgeous, you look just like the 90's Supermodels. 💕
Love the look! When u were blending in the lip liner I was like "u don't need to!" because of the heavy line that was common in the 90s 😂 but I loved the outcome! MAC is available at my ulta and I'm DEFINITELY getting that liner and lipstick!
I love... LOVE Linda Evangelista ❤
You look drop dead gorgeous! This makeup suits you so well, so pretty :)
Absolutely gorgeous, loved this look.
Your makeup looks beautiful! And I've got to say Linda Evangelista was my absolute favorite model. I always thought she was so incredibly beautiful.
But my everyday makeup is so 90's, lol.
same! lol
I was just graduating in 91 , and believe me I don’t miss the makeup from this time frame. I’m one of those people that were glad to move on to more modern makeup.
Lmao girl! Your recollections of MTV and the magazines for makeup tips and tricks is bringing me back!
I love this series!
That thumbnail is EVERYTHING💕
Omg....I was obsessed with that video too!!!! Still love it to this day!!
Loved the 90's super voluminous hair ..
More than perfect make up , love 90's , BRAVO for this video
I think this is still a stunning look that would be beautiful for a date night with the hubs!!
this was great! Could you perhaps consider doing a make up like in "the Nanny"? Fashion and Make Up was a really big part of the appeal of it back then, and I would loooove to see your take on that. :)
Inky Minky Lashes ROCK😎
I don't have a favorite look but my favorite model is Tyra Banks. I think she is, was, and always will be amazing.
Amy Louwho I like Tyra , but my favorite was definitely Cindy Crawford.
Brown eye shadow, brown eyeliner, brown lippies for the perfect 90s look. Anyway, you nailed it. You're gorgeous!
Hi Zabrena, loved your video! Could you do a Biba Deco revival 70's look next, please?
