My late parents were friends with both the Franks(Toscan and Angelo) and I was introduced to Mac when it was just a few counters at that point in Simpsons and the Bay.If you were in the giant Simpsons you’re company was going somewhere.❤That video was filmed with WFW as its production company’s which my then best friends grandfather founded back in the day..and I believe it was filmed at the Summerville pool and athletic centre on Lakeshore Ave because that architecture is familiar. I became a business professional in 1991. This was my look and my makeup style! So much has changed since then, but I still find myself going back sometimes so those original make up applications. What an enjoyable video to watch.❤❤❤
Watching this MAC footage instantly gave me Sex and the City vibes ! The saxophone, the soft glow filters used in the editing. There’s something gritty and edgy about it but yet so sophisticated and elegant. Back when make up was for grown folks. Gahhh, thank you for sharing this amazing footage ❤

Oh my god!!! My mom had this tape when she was a teen! I had to show this to my mom and she was so happy to see the tape again. We both followed the video a long time ago and tried to do some makeup looks. It was a very bonding moment back then. :)
@@erinparsonsmakeupis this why M.O.B beauty has such beautiful cool neutral tone makeup because the orginal chemist now works with that cosmetics brand??? In other words they have a og chemist who knows what their doing to provide such good makeup🤔💭⁉️ 🎨💄🫶🏻
@@erinparsonsmakeup I believe she did when she was much younger! So it’s been very nostalgic for her and she’s even rewatching this video all this week!
This was so ahead of its time. No way was anyone I knew using all these bridges techniques and tools back then !! We were lucky we had the tiny wedge sponges a tiny eyeshadow wand and the tiniest blush included! This sexy video is almost like a beginners tutorial in comparison to today’s beauty videos !
I worked as a Retail Manager for MAC in the early 90’s and I remember this video. So great to see some familiar faces in this video. This was before MAC was bought by Lauder and when it was cool to work for MAC. It was very much an identity and a vibe back then. I’m still a fan but the products and colors have changed so much and not for the better. Thank you Erin, for this walk down memory lane.
@@erinparsonsmakeupand basic training ❤😍… the PKM. I was a third key wayyyy back in the days of old 😂 I love this so much Erin! Thank you for preserving these irreplaceable gems
I was hired by Phillipe. He was there in my interview at Nordstrom. We used to tease him years later quoting his line in the video you posted. “See you at the club!” ☺️ He had a great sense of humor.
I think it's very important to document tapes and vintage stuff like this to preserve the history of makeup. I'm so grateful to you Erin and admire your efforts and content! Such a privilege to watch your videos for free.
I did my first makeup course in 1988. I feel old lol but for me the techniques have change but the biggest difference I find is the brushes!!!! We have so many options now to create that we didn’t for a long time. I still use sponges but it’s the brushes that have changes so much for me. Love your videos, thank you 💕💕💕💕💕
It' s a tear of frustration. No matter how hard this lovely accountant tries, he never achieves the receptionist' s hair length. Genetics is so unfair😢😜...
I could watch you talk about makeup for hours! The topic of 90s Mac is by far my fave topic, seeing all those beautiful tones and different styles. 😍 thank you for sharing with us!
That lipstick sound is very interesting. When I was watching the video and Catherine was on the phone, I was remembered how tactile, chunky and LOUD everything in the 90s was! The phone handset, the way you could slam it down, the click of the receiver. Big plastic keyboards, the clunk of a cassette player when you pressed play or record. Everything is so much quieter with our touchscreens.
This is so spot-on, yet I never realized it myself. As I read your post I was suddenly back in my office in 1992, hearing that soundscape! Thanks for that time-travel moment! (BTW, my profile pic is from '92.)
That cork eye shadow and that x-pose lipstick… 🔥 🔥 🔥 MAC was definitely a vibe back then. I was 21 years old and going into a MAC store was heaven! I said it in the last video and i’ll say it again, you should really start your company of dupes from the past and/or discontinued. Love love love your passion!!!
1994 Seems like it was just yesterday. But the fact it was 30 years ago got me SHOOK! Thank you for another entertaining makeup history journey, Erin! Love you!
This video is SO quintessentially 90's! The makeup itself, the music, the overall vibes 😆 and there's a palpable club culture influence in the film concept, you can see that the producers and artists that worked in the production had so much familiarity with the club scene and mixed the avante-guarde with a more "classy" tone to fit the brief, i really love it 😭
I’m always so amazed by your complete transformation through the medium of makeup. Your face is the perfect pallet, very much like a blank canvass. I mean, you’re stunning in every decade. I’m aging myself, but I remember the ‘90s exactly like this! What a fantastic time capsule. Much love, Erin, and continued success!
When they changed it was def not for the best. It was so iconic and in a different league. Now the sales people are just rude and it's lost it's spark. I want the 90s back
Your content is unmatched! How do you get to make it better each time is beyond me. Thank you for sharing this piece of MAC history, it really was a Christmas miracle!
I remember going to the MAC counter at Macys in Pentagon City outside DC in 1996 and the woman who did my makeup shook me to my core! I remember so many of the exact products she used because I bought almost all of them-that’s what a great makeover she gave me! I know I bought the Spice lipliner and Twig lipstick, along with four screw-top eyeshadow singles (Vanilla? Concrete? and two others including a peachy frost whose name I can’t remember). I felt so cool and so pretty. I used that lip combo for probably five years after that!
OMG! I loved the MAC counter at that time in Pentagon City! I remember getting my make-up palette there in preparation for my wedding and anytime I had special events or night out. I was obsessed! 😂😂😂
I was a MAC girl at a pro store from 1993-1997... I totally remember this video!! And I really miss the gratis.. have my whole kit because of it & still have all my original brushes from then.. quality lasts a lifetime!
I too have my original Mac brushes from around 1994 and still use them. I was a model in London and got my pro card. Going into the Max pro store, meeting the Pro Artist, was so much fun. I have all the loose pigments still, I love to look at them and reminisce on those times…!
I love Mac and have a LOT of the single eyeshadows from the 90's and some farie dust. Mac to me was/still is cutting edge, and so ahead of the times! ❤️ my paint pots ❤
@@erinparsonsmakeup I can make out some numbers , hard to see see the numbers on most of them as they have faded! My go to most used brushes to this day! . I have quite a few things that I can’t throw, as I am attached and love them. Lots of single shadows that went into the magnetic palettes. I wish I had kept my old lipsticks. As now that I am older I see the value of them with regards to nostalgia and of course memories. Thank you for this vid. It was amazing. Xxx
I stumbled across your videos late at night having trouble sleeping and they are so fantastic and informative, BUT I must say you voice is absolutely the most soothing part. Like it is the texture of a smooth buttery lipstick. I could listen all day.
This is my high school years. I graduated HS in 1995. MAC counter just opened in my Macys and was huge. I loved makeup and still do. I did my own makeup on my wedding day in 2006 with all MAC products. I still have a few of them for keepsakes. Thank you for sharing this. It was everything ❤
I could literally watch 2 hours of this and not be bored. Please show us the videos on CD! I wish they would bring back x-pose and more of the matte colors of the 90s - I'm in loooove!
Erin, thank you so much for sharing! Mac was actually the very first makeup brand I splurged on when I finally had enough money to buy makeup. I absolutely adored their Buff blush, and I still have it in my collection to this day.
As someone very cool toned and pale I’m suffering 😭 I have to swatch everything in person before buying and it turns out orange/beige on me like 80% of the time 😭😭
Erin my dear you are a gem for posting this!!! This is truly a piece of make up history. I know it's your official title, but you are my favorite make up historian! Thank you!
cork! when i was a little girl i did dance competitions so i needed stage makeup. most of my stuff was from mac, my mom loved the brand! cork, wedge, and another shadow i cannot think of, was part of my competition eyeshadow. studio fix powder too! this was late 90s early, 2000s. then they came out with that liquid lipstick with the glossy side! that stuff was cement on my lips!!! would not come off id have to scrub so hard. so many memories from the products listed in the video!
It's nuts, now the nineties have come all the way back, when I see things like this I get these "taps" of how I used to feel at that time. Thanks so much! 🥰
Omg im SO glad i found u. You are killin it in this nostalgic makeup niche. Its everything ive always wanted to see and never thought i would. As a 44 f who was also a makeup artist in the late 90s thru lattle 00s , its so nice to experience this again. I also am SO down for all the past goodies. Not sure if uve done a 60s/ 70s / 80s frost show yet but that cud be so fun. Also maybe we could do Sheers of the past too. So many are gone.. and stains upon stains upon stains . Oh and can we do late 1800s makeup of like the Moulin Rouge wra someday? Ur amazing and i freakin love you. ❤️ oh and ur also gorgeous and remind me of th eleganza glamour ladies of the 20s and its giving EVERYTHING. 💋 😘
What a time to be alive! I remember this video from Basic Training. And I loved seeing my OG MAC colleagues like Jane, Gordon, Phillips, and Ksenija. Thanks for sharing, Erin!
I never thought my teenage years would be called “vintage” :) I do love it though-it means we are lucky enough to have lived this long. Life is a gift ♥️ Great video, Erin! I loved reliving my teen years through this! I love makeup so much! I love how much you teach us the history behind it! Bring back the 80s and 90s makeup, Erin! I think you should create a makeup collection of all vintage makeup by decade! You are the one meant to do it! 💖
I am nostalgic for a time i didnt experience. I was born in 1994, so obviously wasnt wearing makeup BUT, when I started wearing makeup in 2008ish, mac was absolutely my dream. I am now 30 (31 almost), and i still love makeup and have a soft spot for mac - the eyeshadows have never worked for me, but that doesnt stop me from trying anyways. Thank you for this incredible video!!!😊
Erin, I’m a mom of two that grew up watching beauty gurus on YT and your videos have been SO refreshing and interesting to me. Thank you for sharing your love of makeup and history, I love it! ❤
I have never ever seen a foundation with an olive base.. Wish I could find that! Also Thank you do much Erin for making this available to us. I appreciate it, you & yiur time. ❤💋💋
I used to do my makeup this way and sometimes still use eyeshadow and a stuff angle brush on my brows. Thank you for posting this flashback to the 90s!
My mom has been wearing cork and nylon everyday since the 90s she’s gone though dozens of each shade. She used to give me her empty’s so I could get a free lipstick with back to Mac ♥️
No matter how many new face highlighters the market launches. Nothing👏🏼 Never👏🏼 Will👏🏼 Beat👏🏼 *NYLON* 👏🏼 Applied with my fingertip under the brow, inner corner AND zygomatic bone like tomorrow. Your mom knows the real deal😉😍 Happy Whatever Whenever you celebrate🖤.
thank you for sharing your love of makeup history! as a person who currently works with ELC and MAC, what a lovely insight!! i honestly loved the jazz music in the video i was dancing in my kitchen making my coffee watching this 🤣 my tweedy seems kind of similar to the old warm neutral eyeshadow! so cool to hear your experience and see where you’re at now
Petition for Erin to start her own makeup brand and she would recreate all ACTUAL 90s shades! I would buy every single item!!! I loooove 90s colour schemes ❤
This is by far my favorite video you've made. I hope you consider turning it into a series. It's an interesting approach to vintage makeup, brands, and application.
Thank you for letting the world see this little slice of MAC history💖 , So many frosted brow bones and saxophone solo's. I'd love to see your brush collection Erin ! I collect MAC brushes and have spent way too much time researching the factory's that made diffrent generations of them, I bet you have quite the collection.
You are the Makeup Artist and Channel that I didn't know I needed!!! I Love vintage purses. I have a lot of albums going back to Billie Holiday on. My mom's and grandmoms vintage jewelry. And my mom's heavy silver mirror which Id sneak into her room and pickup and look at from 6 years old on. But vintage makeup never crossed my mind until I came across your channel. Now when I'm in a thrift store I look at the items that they keep under glass.
I was 24 young years old in 1994. Though I've never been a makeup/cosmetics user or wearer, I used to surgically remove countless makeup print and fashion ads from the fashion and beauty magazines i used to subscribe to. I keep them all in my archives. Some of the products here take me right back to that era, and what an era it was. One i truly MISS. Sigh... Thank you for sharing.🙏🏻
It's so funny to me how 90s stuff feels so 80s to me now having experienced both (o.m.g. the screaming sax music!) I was just a kid in the 80s, but I have always loved makeup, and I absolutely share your love of 90s colors. I bemoan the dreaded orange in it seems like everything anymore, especially trying to shop online. There's nothing like a pretty cool taupe in eye or lip color. Fantastic video! I always enjoy your content! Also, final look? Chef's kiss!
Same as you! I was a kid in the 80’s and certainly experienced the giant bangs and all the neon 😆 but the 90’s I was in high school. Poured over the fashion magazines but couldn’t afford any of it till today. Now I’m reliving the 90’s 😅 but may have to do an 80’s look for fun soon!
@@erinparsonsmakeupI started high school in 1990. I did the same. Looked at all the magazines and just wished I could afford some of the makeup and clothing. While using my mom’s drug store makeup. We certainly did our makeup vastly different back then.
The cool tone browns silvers and greys really make you look RICHHHH!!! like aristocrat realness!!! Lovely video as usual queen, can't wait for the next mac videos
Your eye color is gorgeous,.it looks like light honey!!! omgosh this video though ..I can't believe this was 90's ,,it felt more like 80's ....I noticed with the second model,. the artist used "groundwork" paint pot for her darker outer "shadow".. can't beat the paint pots. love the history of makeup info ..awesome..

Thank you for this video and all that you do sharing your knowledge and fascination of makeup history with us all. You are a goddess. ❤
Oh how I miss those colors!!! I wore nothing but Studio Fix as foundation in those days… made your skin look like velvet!! What a blast from the past. The second look is almost identical to how I wore my makeup in college in 1994, and what I wouldn’t give to get my hands on those griegey, cool-toned taupes now.
I just adore this! Thank you so much for sharing. I worked at MAC Cosmetics and it’s so cool to see these video’s…. MAC always had amazing inspiration video’s at all of their “MAC UPDATE” meetings!!
Lmao the first day tutorial w/ Catherine definitely brought me back 🤣 I remember my mom basically doing an all powder base with her fashion fair makeup before work. That stone 90s lip tone is everything 🙌🏽 you gonna make me look for some dupes with that vibe

I could listen to you narrate paint drying. I have learned so much from you although I'm the furthest from stylish. I absolutely love how educated and articulate you are. You are absolutely stunning to boot💜
It’s really crazy to think that 1994 or anything in the 90s is considered vintage. I’m over 50 so for me it seems like just a few years ago. I remember this very very vividly as a makeup artist. I remember all of this and I absolutely Loved it all. Wow proof we lined our exact lips not the skin around . simple yet effective eyeshadow. What hilarious is the overt use of sex and work harassment in this video. I always loved the long hair almost androgynous men, and the inclusion of all. I actually know lots of people that still use their 90’s shadows lol There is nothing like the original 90’s lipsticks. The original brushes were amazing. The silver lipstick exposed was that Light Pale color. I had it and got rid of it last year lol
Oh my gosh-such a 90s video!😆 I remember being obsessed with “club” makeup styles and trying to emulate them! My sister always bought MAC products when she worked retail! 🎨Such a throwback! Takes me back to my art school days and creativity and color! Just love you and your channel!🤩you are like the cool art teacher I always admired!😁♥️miss the 80s and 90s-but you keep them alive for us!💄😘

In the early 2000's I bought the lipstick color from Mac called Riveting, and lipliner in Stone. Riveting was this kind of plummy, mauve grayish color and it was a cream. I'd mix it with the color Fluid which was kind of similar, but in a frost. Riveting was discontinued and I worked for Prescriptives at the time, which was also an Estee Lauder line, and someone found 2 old lipsticks in Riveting that were used for testers. I still have one and the Fluid that I wore down to a flat nub. Watching your videos is so nostalgic to me, I love it!!

Oh my god!!! My mom had this tape when she was a teen! I had to show this to my mom and she was so happy to see the tape again. We both followed the video a long time ago and tried to do some makeup looks. It was a very bonding moment back then. :)
Wowww! Did she work for Mac?
@@erinparsonsmakeupis this why M.O.B beauty has such beautiful cool neutral tone makeup because the orginal chemist now works with that cosmetics brand??? In other words they have a og chemist who knows what their doing to provide such good makeup🤔💭⁉️ 🎨💄🫶🏻
@@erinparsonsmakeup I believe she did when she was much younger! So it’s been very nostalgic for her and she’s even rewatching this video all this week!
Awe😊 that's sweet
I would love to hear stories from you! Product launches, the artists, the franks oh my! Everything 😊
@@erinparsonsmakeupand basic training ❤😍… the PKM. I was a third key wayyyy back in the days of old 😂 I love this so much Erin! Thank you for preserving these irreplaceable gems
@@erinparsonsmakeup RuPaul walked into one of our manager meetings when we were balancing our inventory books! ♥️
I was hired by Phillipe. He was there in my interview at Nordstrom. We used to tease him years later quoting his line in the video you posted. “See you at the club!” ☺️ He had a great sense of humor.
Whondoesnt Estee Lauder ruin? But really
That frosted lipstick is everything! Bring back frosted lipstick 💄
Love your videos, thank you 💕💕💕💕💕
The teardrop💧 in 4:33 😭😂😂😂
So damn funny! 😆

I still apply my makeup very similar to this! I learned in '96, and I haven't changed up my routine much at all.
The younger generations will never fully understand the satisfaction of slamming down the phone on someone 😂
sooo true about the sounds, even the dialing circle on the phone..!
That cork eye shadow and that x-pose lipstick… 🔥 🔥 🔥
MAC was definitely a vibe back then.
Love you!
1:18 Ughhhh hearing “very old” and 90s in the same sentence just k!lled me a little inside
I feel your pain as a woman of mature youth
Me too hon, me too. The first time I heard my favorite song from 10th grade on the “classic rock station” I almost wrecked my car.
This video is SO quintessentially 90's! The makeup itself, the music, the overall vibes 😆
and there's a palpable club culture influence in the film concept, you can see that the producers and artists that worked in the production had so much familiarity with the club scene and mixed the avante-guarde with a more "classy" tone to fit the brief, i really love it 😭
I’m always so amazed by your complete transformation through the medium of makeup. Your face is the perfect pallet, very much like a blank canvass. I mean, you’re stunning in every decade.
I’m aging myself, but I remember the ‘90s exactly like this! What a fantastic time capsule.
Much love, Erin, and continued success!
Mac needs to go back to the 90’s ! This is absolutely brilliant
And 90s prices too
When they changed it was def not for the best. It was so iconic and in a different league. Now the sales people are just rude and it's lost it's spark. I want the 90s back
Your content is unmatched! How do you get to make it better each time is beyond me. Thank you for sharing this piece of MAC history, it really was a Christmas miracle!
4 minutes in and it’s giving early 90’s 🌽 😂 waiting for this to go a whole other direction for Catherine.
Awesome video thanks for the time travel!

So much gyrating like dancing 😂😂😂😂
Ha! I was ready as well for Catherine to let loose at the club!
You do? Omg!! Were these the ones numbered 1-34? Do you still have makeup from this time 🤩
I love Mac and have a LOT of the single eyeshadows from the 90's and some farie dust.
Mac to me was/still is cutting edge, and so ahead of the times! ❤️ my paint pots ❤
I miss the natural fibre brushes!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Loved the female gaze corporate office 😄 🤣
I could listen to you talk about the history of makeup for hours! You tell a compelling story!! Happy Holidays to you also.
Nobody is complaining that the videos are too long. I’m always sad that they end because I love watching them. Thank you Erin❤❤❤❤
Erin, thank you so much for sharing! Mac was actually the very first makeup brand I splurged on when I finally had enough money to buy makeup. I absolutely adored their Buff blush, and I still have it in my collection to this day.
EVERYTHING /IS/ ORANGEY NOW ITS CRAZY
But is that because people are leaning into yellowy foundation?
A cool tone woman's worst nightmare 😢
As someone very cool toned and pale I’m suffering 😭 I have to swatch everything in person before buying and it turns out orange/beige on me like 80% of the time 😭😭
On point with this comment!
Yes they are!! I had to buy a blue colour corrector
It’s giving “Absolutely Fabulous.” The look, vibe, music, love it! Thank you again for yet another amazing video 🖤
Erin You are the Christmas gift that keeps giving!!! 90s teen approved 😁 🎉
I love how every montage sets up the vibe for the look!
love all of these vintage makeup hauls thank you Erin!!!
I'm glad you liked it! 😍

thank you for sharing your love of makeup history! as a person who currently works with ELC and MAC, what a lovely insight!! i honestly loved the jazz music in the video i was dancing in my kitchen making my coffee watching this 🤣 my tweedy seems kind of similar to the old warm neutral eyeshadow! so cool to hear your experience and see where you’re at now

Petition for Erin to start her own makeup brand and she would recreate all ACTUAL 90s shades! I would buy every single item!!! I loooove 90s colour schemes ❤
That flat sponge press/swipe technique to apply foundation.... Was satisfying!
Ain't gonna lie! I'm a sucker for that frosted eye shadow! 😆😅🤣😂
Though I've never been a makeup/cosmetics user
or wearer, I used to surgically remove countless makeup
print and fashion ads from the fashion and beauty magazines i used to subscribe to. I keep them all in my archives.
Some of the products here take me right
back to that era, and what an era it was.
One i truly MISS. Sigh...
Thank you for sharing.🙏🏻
One of my favourite channels here on YT. Merry Christmas Erin and thank you so much for being you. 💖✨✨💋

Erin Parsons is a Christmas Miracle.
I actually know lots of people that still use their 90’s shadows lol
There is nothing like the original 90’s lipsticks. The original brushes were amazing. The silver lipstick exposed was that Light Pale color. I had it and got rid of it last year lol
to me 90s will always be feeling like 10 years ago.
Oh my gosh-such a 90s video!😆 I remember being obsessed with “club” makeup styles and trying to emulate them! My sister always bought MAC products when she worked retail! 🎨Such a throwback! Thank you for bringing us the history of MAC! I love to see how it was done in the 90's.
You are just the coolest! I remember visiting my aunt in Chicago in the mid-90s and she had all of these products and a ton more. I'll have to check to see if she held on to any of it. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I stumbled across your videos after Christmas and i have binged watched since. I love your content and the 90s
