Taught by an old Japanese veteran (WW2), I learned the similar technique when I was in teenage. Eliminating the fear of being hit is the prerequisite.
Before drilling, the trainee must have good (athletic) body condition to ensure his endurance; or otherwise he cannot move forward with full application and power. Footstep training is also key, since the force is from moving forward like spearing the opponent. Don't retreat; or you will get killed. (Teacher said)

Interesting. How did your instructor go about eliminating the fear of being hit?

    • @sammyli9456
      @sammyli9456 5 месяцев назад

@@rl1800 ... At that time, there were no many fitness clubs available on cheap price. We did, each day, at least 100 push-ups, with sit-up exercise of at least 500 on a cumulative basis (with no rest day); and did all workout for stamina like jogging around the gym at least 3-5 km. everyday (no rest day). Those routines were to build our confidence in the body condition.
Additionally, we had to be hit by stick and punch at the abdominal area before and after each class to ensure our confidence if being hit for real (street fight) which must be much aggressively harder.
We tested our fear when sparring with partners by occasionally let them hit us first without protection. I know it sounds very stupid; but it is the only way to reinforce our strong mind when being hit in any real street fight.

@@rl1800 ... If you move forward with no fear, you will not get hit more than twice but you can reach the vital point of the opponent for sure; and at that moment he will be your victim. This is the training to kill. (Teacher said)

    Hey Michiel
Can you please make a video covering multiple attackers? I know it is difficult and running away or using an improvised weapon is a good option. But running away is not always immediately available as we may be in a bar, nightclub or some crowded place or a toilet. And even i know that you once faced 5 guys from the military while working as a doorman. Then you got arrested and spent a night in the prison. You told this in a podcast.
So yeah could you pls cover it. Sorry for the long comment.
    Thanks

I was also taught to target the collar bone with that spike elbow. It requires some accuracy and the confidence to go inside vs what he is demonstrating. He is obviously trying to keep it simple but effective so that you react instead of think. He is also using the attackers own body motion to inflict some pain, which is beautiful. I have seen a basically untrained fighter easily execute the elbow to the collar bone in a legitimate street fight situation, without opening themselves to any counter shot and it is beyond effective. Any opponent looses their desire to throw a punch when his collar bone has just been shattered. Im not sure if that is a novice attack, but it only takes about 5 ft pounds of pressure to shatter a collar bone.
The way his style uses the flow of body motion to guard and attack are so fluid is beyond impressive, this is a true "Martial" system. Im 53 and his intensity and style gets me pumped just watching. It would be an honor to step into this guys dojo and absorb every drop of knowledge he is willing to share. It would be worth the bumps, bruises, mat burns and needing help rolling out of bed the some mornings to be the Uke in his gym....lol

The first time I saw something similar was in Keysi Fighting Method, which seem to me is not well appreciated by some mma practitioners. I'm not sure why since street fights normally start with punches, so covering your head, not exposing your hands bones, and striking with elbows sounds quite logical to minimize injures and maximize damage on the bad guy.

The way to work with an experienced opponent is not get into it at all. These videos I believe are oriented to the average person getting out of a situation against aggressive people, drunks at a bar, muggers etc. Even against trained people I think the angles of attack, the use of elbows and pure aggression can be enough to break contact and evade . Trained people tend to train against people with the same skill set ie. boxers against boxers, muay vs muay etc.

Hello everyone! Michiel created another amazing video! To that end,I feel obligated to mention this. If you look at his RUclips channel, you can see that he has so many amazing videos, which are long and extremely detailed. The amount of content provided clearly adds up to several complete courses on self protection! All of which is given freely! And that is so honorable of him since most of these self defense videos you see on RUclips from many so called experts are basically garbage. Not only that. Most of the shit they give will get you killed on the street. So I am asking that all serious followers of Michiel to be willing to pay for a paid subscription for detailed videos. I mean. My idea would be for him to offer 1 minute introductory videos for everything he has. Then to offer the complete videos via paid subscription. Like $9.99 per month. This is extremely reasonable and affordable for what you are getting and then perhaps in the future, classes could be offered by subscription as well on RUclips and Patreon. I mean. Seriously, Michiel deserves to profit more from his work. Thank you.

OK, seems legit

Yes blocking strikes to the head involves... Covering the head. Boxing champions do ALL THE TIME. You sound like you preach some McDojo nonsense where you think you can pull off wonderfully unrealistic stuff. Showing techniques slowly to your students is one thing, the application of block and counter is incredibly quick. This looks like it's based on Crazy Monkey Defence which is essentially a self defence optimised type of tight boxing shell and yes it works in real situations. The coach who taught me CMD was a Muay Thai world champion and I've seen fighters like Randy Couture and Quinton Jackson teach this. But it's fighting, it's really simple to find out whether it works.

@@Khamzatchimaev-os7uj I don't mind the block followed by the over hand slap. Thats fine. Its the ridiculously long amount of time you spend with your arms wrapped around your head like a horny octopus making love to itself. Your vision is drastically impaired, you are not in a position to strike effectively, and your midsection is entirely exposed. If you over shoot that slap, maybe the opponent is a little closer than you thought or a bit faster, then it ends up a forearm strike and you will not slide seamlessly into this rhinoceros pose because the wrist flexion that lets you follow through with your arm into the wrap is gone. Even if you get to that pose, i can still slide in an uppercut, which you wont see coming. You may as well have wrapped a towel around your face. Granted, any position leaves some defensive openings, thats a given. But your ability to react to changing circumstances is drastically impaired by this sequence. Its dumb. Looks cool... could probably be inserted in any number of womens self defence classes, or those schools that throw dragonball Z chi balls at each other.

I had a friend years ago was in special forces. He told me they don't really worry much about bare-hand fighting, because "on the job" they just shoot people dead.

This seems to be part of Crav Maga training? Either way, it's cute until people start throwing and kicking punches you're not training for. Then, it's completely different, because, you never train with your attacker.
I've done some Kemp and boxing when I was younger. There has been much more boxing lately in my life.
But, since my first street fight at 7yo, I've never used anything but sheer fight for my life all with boxing.
    True story.
This man is good, though, hands down!

This seems fancy, but if you’re fighting an opponent that is moving sideways or backwards it can be problematic.
If someone blinds themselves with their own guard, I am really quick to change the angles and when he trusts forward with his elbow, I am not there anymore. When you first blind yourself then attacks straight forward, still blinding yourself, I can guarantee that once you hit air with that elbow, I am on your back.
Or you step outside as soon as he covers up, and deliver a punch, knee or a kick to the liver when he drives forward with his elbow.
