As a marine veteran, I have to say this is extremely practical. When I taught as an instructor in the corps, I always taught core plus, and it was similar to this. Spot on sir.
I’ll also add, accepting that you will get cut in a knife fight helps. Just accept that it will happen and mentally the situation will be a little easier to deal with. At that point, you’re concerned with minimizing the damage of the cut and where it is, than preventing a cut at all.

Great video as always from Urban Combatives. When someone wants to take you to a second location, he's usually taking you to his friends. If that happens, your chances of defending yourself or getting out of the situation is pretty well zero. Like coach said, now you have to fight for your life.

The best series I have seen so far. Things like "Ask him a question" are the way it goes. It is all about psychology and you are always more dedicated as life threatened than the one just likes to get a few bucks out of you. But: awareness is allied #1. If you have to fight you missed something. ALWAYS! Most of the times because one likes to stand his silly man.
And no, it is not smart bringing ya face to the knifes edge...

Great point about asking a question and breaking concentration. All I can add is, the wall you are pressed against might be useful as a blunt force weapon. If its brick, stucco, concrete or otherwise rough, and you can leverage the weapon hand against it and tear skin, or if it was cork or had gaps from brick or wood boards, trap the sharp tip for leverage as you fight for control. If you can use leverage from your waist to slam your opponent's head against the solid wall, that may also help in the eventual counter-attack.

    Questions:
    1. If at any point your assailant dropped the knife, would you pick it up if you safely could? Or just palm strike/kick/whatever and then run?
    2. Do you in a situation like this ever spit in the assailants eyes? You ask the brain-engaging question, the second he begins to respond you spit and simultaneously isolate the weapon? One KM instructor I’ve met advocated eye spitting. Said there’s no man on earth that will not close his eyes if you spit into them.
Makes sense, but I rarely see it taught.
If I have a knife on my carotid artery my mouth might be too dry to spit anyway.

The way you lead into this segment, is so on point: This is the worst self-defense situation to be in, if you are in this spot, you have totally screwed up and you better be the real deal.
You can always get more money. If my life gets bought for the price of what's in my wallet, that's a great price. I actually keep about $40 in cash, loose, specifically for this situation.
Against a professional with a knife, you're pretty well fucked as they'll use your clothing to pull you into the blade: they'll also inevitable switch hands, this is where most people get killed by the aggressor.
The winner of a knife fight dies in the ambulance, the loser dies in the street.

Just a question not criticism. In Gracie jiu jitsu the self defense part of our teaching we pin the hand to the chest . This gives you control of the knife better. Instead of pushing the knife away push away by moving and then glueing the back of the hand to you're chest for more stability. What do you think about that? Love the training just started foundation course one going to teach my whole family this.

AFTER you pushed the knife away WITH 2 hands(like you did here) so you have the leverage advantage on his weapon arm, you could torque the wrist(inward or sideways) SHARP AND QUICKLY...he WILL DROP THE KNIFE NO MATTER HOW STRONG HE IS. You could ALSO slang him into the wall behind you...if he has to choose between holding onto the knife or BREAKING HIS FALL TO AVOID A FACEPLANT most ppl would try to break their fall😒😒😒💯💯💯🧔🏾‍♂️

We tested that. And it failed miserably. People have this emotional connection to the weapon. If you don’t make their brain occupied they will go ape to protect that blade. Resetting the OODA loop is crucial. So if you do what you just described do it only when you hurt him first with a strike or bite before going into your tactic. I mean depending on the subject everything could work when it’s deployed with the right element of surprise and intention.
