@@schoolofselfprotection do you really wanna low kick on the streets and risk a anderson silva moment on the streets where there are no doctors available?
As a trained guy who conditioned his shins his whole life it might not be a hesitation for you, but it is for everyone else
I grew up thay boxing and kicking steel poles and breaking fat sticks with my shins all the time, my shin is full of lil bumps of Calcium all over the place, its like a rollercoaster
I rather try to front kick or punch with precision, or get a hold of him and choke him( but trying to not go to the ground)
      Low kicks are really risky
Why not chose the groin instead of low kicks? I mean if you are kicking already this would be a much more realistic "idiotproof" way to save yourself
It has as much risk for your legs than a low kick, and is much more effective

@@enricopucci7413 This is true to some extent, but me and my brother both have about 9 years of various martial arts experience (Judo, BJJ and Kickboxing in that order) and we've literally tested this: We cannot hurt each other with strikes on the ground. If we include kicks, we cannot hurt each other before the victim gets up.
BJJ and especially Judo when applied practically with the idea of strikes in mind makes you extremely defensible, especially if you're also accustomed to dealing with striking from a sport such as Muay-Thai.

If you watch any muay thai, lethwei, MMA, sambo, sanda, or wrestling video (those at least), you will watch sth that definitely works in a weaponless fight. Even someone with a weapon would have meet difficulties to dominate you. Martial arts = arts of making war. Martial comes from "Mars", the Roman god of war. It's no joke.

These are some of the most effective and practical techniques I have seen on the net. One thing I would like to note is to look at his lead leg placement. Most the time he stepped and landed 45-90 degrees with his toes pointing out. That is how you get true power into a leg kick. That allows you to turn you hips over completely. Your hips should be facing sideways when you land, not at an angle. The target area is just above the knee or just below the hip. You can press hard on these areas with your fingers and feel, on your own leg, where the exact target should be. Those are exposed nerves that deaden the leg when kicked. When first learning, break it down. Step and then kick. Later on for speed you step and kick simultaneously. Think, explosion.

for my self I do this with my foreward foot pointing toes towars the enemy,,, not equal power but Its enough and I have a nice fast boxning to put in if the kick miss. If you put your toes 90 degree away from him and you miss and he is a striker,, you have to be really fast to jump out or conuter kick.. but the idea is to make the push to get them out of balance so I buy what the expert shows,, its very hard to defend if you get that push first. Its possible that if you are out on the pub and meet aggressive idiot he does this to you. From no time he pushes you and you get out of balance and he kicks you. So to counter attack is to read it so you not ever get pushed,, the real difficult thing in self defence is how to know when to start. In a ring,, you hear the gong and starts.. In the pub, or street,,, they start bullying you or the like,, when do you start? To read the situation is very difficult sometimes. Very many aggresiv people will be satisfied if you tell them that you are a pussy and your mother was a bitch bla bla... A good way is to try to increase distance and hold it,, if he goes forward you go serius aggressive boxing in,, lower your point of gravity,, soft knees,,, the most "fighters" have stiff knees,,, take a low stand,, stability comes from the ground,, The theory is long,,, but in pratice you come a very long way if you become extremly aggressive as long as you stay focused,, as a power lifter maxing in bench press.

Your leg kicks are expertly executed, and you set up the kicks in a sensible manner. Whenever the other guy is off balance, it is very difficult for him to defend or counter attack. Perhaps contrary to textbook low kicks, I used to open with a push or a jab, and then extend the right glove towards the opponent's eyes as I executed a right low kick to take away his vision, control distance and prevent the possibility of a counter right. It also took a little power away, but it was a tradeoff I was happy with.

The adage "you fight like you train" is very true. 30 years ago I was doing a lot of Thai boxing training since I was having ring fights.(was with a Bruce Lee group.). Got into some street scraps during that time and my first instinct was to chop the legs down. And down they went, one guy after another. Legs kicks are great for the street, especially since most palookas aren't expecting them, nor do they know how to deal with them.

I did 6 to 7 years of muay thai with 4 fights in it and 2 in boxing. I can tell you, lowkicks are very underrated. Even in amateur thaiboxing. Most fighters there know how to throw a low kick ans how to defend a basic low kick. But amateur fighters cant really use it correctly (timing, rythm and placement). I won 3 out of my 4 thai fights with 90% low kicks. Just keep up my tight guard, used my lengh and punished all opponents attempts to close distance with a hard low kick. After two of 3 rounds, the fight was mostly like over, since the opponent could barely walk!

Low kicks are the most overlooked attacks since many people have been enamored with high kicks from the movies.
A good kick to the side of the knees of even the most ripped or muscular guy will bring them down.

Having been taught this kick and being on the other end of it (kyokushin training), I got to say the downward motion makes a lot of difference. It's hard to explain but the pain comes from inside the leg rather than the superficial muscle, and landing 2 or even 1 good kick will incapacitate your leg for some seconds.

Im curious for street and self preservation, why not a front kick to gain distance? The low kick round is to disable them? Trying to understand, thank you

A top that may help, use less hand movements and keep your guard up. Feels counter intuitive and takes some training at first but it's a lot quicker, less telegraphing and keeps your guard up. Learnt it in Krav Maga and now have no load up time but can see a kick coming with plenty of time to teep the hip or return first.

I believe the most effective kick is straight forward twisting and turning takes practice and also in a street situation it also takes time you don't have..we learn to walk when we are baby's so lifting your leg straight up and forward is natural 😉

Just found this channel; awesome stuff. I have a quick question; since you guys are focused on practical application, whats your opinion on Lethwei/Burmese Boxing, and using it for said "on the street" practical applications? Cheers from a Dutch guy living in the US of A.

@@schoolofselfprotection Thank you! I appreciate the input. I wish there was a school that taught Lethwei near me but I have had no success in finding one here (Arizona). In the absence of such a school being an option, how would you recommend someone goes about studying and practicing Lethwei? I know guys like Dave Leduc have outright flown to Myanmar to learn it there, but I'm not sure I want to just drop everything I'm doing with my life here right now to learn the art.

I was once doing some friendly sparring with a friend and he kept on kicking me in the balls when he felt he was "losing". Instead of doing the right thing and stopping the sparring I did the immature thing and decided to teach him not to play dirty. I gave him one well placed full power low kick to the thigh.
He was really mad but he was limping too much too want to fight.
    It works!

Hello, I have a question. I have a terrible fear of breaking my shin. What to do so that the opponent does not bend the calf towards the thigh? Because it creates a sharp point that would break the shin. I once did a low kick to the knee in training when the leg was bent at the knee and it hurt like hell. If I kicked with full force I would probably break my leg

    • @schoolofselfprotection
      @schoolofselfprotection  5 месяцев назад

That’s the thing..if the fear of hurting is in your mind it’s probably will happen and injure you. If you only think about that kick landing hard you will commit 100%. And probably don’t injure yourself. At least I found that out when training for competition. Injury always happend when the kick was not committed 100%. Another option from street perspective is to create a good setup. Bring the attention up and be as non-telegraphic as possible before you kick..

@@schoolofselfprotection I still realized one important aspect. You explained the lowkick as a baseball bat. Like chopping a tree. And the shin has a cuboid shape. This means that even if I hit the shin or worse the knee, I always hit with the sharp edge of the tibia, which should be more resistant than the flat side of the tibia. Thanks for the info
