I once had a dream where the Earth was inside-out. So when I looked up into the sky, I could see Australlia. That was pretty cool
Tim Tims mind if you make a game for that?
*A U S T R A L I A H E R E W E C O M E*
I was on MDMA in the back of my friends car outside taco Bell. I thought THE SAME EXACT THING except it was the Eiffel tower I saw
That sounds terrifying so don’t.
AHH HOLL|OW EARTH
That LSD collector's edition must be rare as fuck.
It is one popped up on eBay not too long ago for $1300 USD
Just finding a complete copy alone is rare as fuck..
its rare but not as rare as most people think. osamu sato's chu-teng is a lotttttt more rare. it was considered lost media until just a few years ago after a team finally found a copy and dumped it on the web for people to play.
speaking of which sato has two other games still considered lost media called Rolypolys no Nanakorobiyaoki and Rolypolys no Sekai Ryokou (which may or may not have even been released as there's so little information about it)
i got my copy of lsd for about $150 some years back and i remember there were about 6 other listings for it just on ebay alone.
lovely sweet dream as well as lsd and remixes are honestly even more rare than the actual game.
Neet Boss I heard no mint copies of LSD exist
mint only really refers to quality of the item really. my copy is pretty mint. (no scratches, cracks, scuffs, etc)
sealed or new mooost likely doesn't exist. but you never know. odder things have shown up for sale.
persona 2 was considered a super rare game for quite awhile until some people found a crate of them brand new in a warehouse. dropping the value of existing copies quite substantially. or even something that just happened with the yakuza games where sega actually decided to print brand new copies of the original ps2 and ps3 games in the year 2017.
you never knowwww.
better exploration than No Mans Sky
Edit: No Mans Sky is better now, well done Hello Games
so true get to the top bruh
Tayyub Parwez yah go get that top comment dude I believe in you!
Was close to saying the same. Procedural algorithms are much better here.
Seriously, the monotony of NMS would be way better in the LSD world
😂
That flashy water thing is a painful glitch. For the record, it's supposed to have an effect sort of similar to static on the surface, but most emulators can't recreate the hardware quirk that a PS1 has which makes that show. The only one I am aware of (can confirm personally) is Xebra.
Really? I play this game on my PSOne (which is modded and I play off of a burned disc, not the original Japanese game) and I feel like I still get the flashing water. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, since it's been while since I played LSD.
what about mednafen
Japanese Businessman
Maybe it's just Japanese PS1's? I know that some version of them work properly.
Mednafen's PS1 emulator can emulate the water. So it's not just Xebra.
I don't remember flashing water when I played it using duckstation
Lucy in the sky with diamonds is definitely not unintentionally referencing LSD
This game deserves an HD release to the west on PC, VR and consoles!!! There is absolutely no reason why this amazing simulator should be region locked!! If localized, it could make Goat Simulator have a run for its money!!
quarlic IIRC there is a fanmade remake currently being made
EDIT: I really need to watch the full video before commenting
MacintoshMinus Ok but I still think they should just have it localized.
omfg yesss this needs to be a thing!
Tenlizard44 Da Potato We should set up a community to ask whoever has the ip to localize it. #WewantLSDSimulator.
Better graphics will make it less weird and creepy.
Ah, LSD... The original walking simulator ;).
Great game, really. I wonder why no one made a kickstarter of spiritual successor yet. With modern engines, it would be very simple to make such game and it would be possible to use advanced shaders to screw with people's minds even more.
id argue the low poly models, low quality graphics and shaky vertexes is part of what gives the game its feel and without those things it wouldnt work
LSD Revamped

It's on the Japanese psn for around $10. Videos on youtube can show you how to make a japanese psn account and access it through the ps3

have you verified your acid dumps today?
I wonder how this game would look on today's engines.
Even stranger.
I want to see it though. I have a feeling that it'd get many sells to make a profit.
I'd imagine the aesthetic would be completely ruined.
@@LOOMING_WRAITH_OF_BAD_OMEN actually, if someone with an extremely trippy mind, had an obsession with weird stuff, and was actually on LSD, if they were to modify it a bit, it might just be an even weirder aesthetic....
i think the low poly style is better. it makes things feel more un-real. it also taps into nostalgic memory and makes the game feel familiar yet alien.
Nice to see this game get more coverage! Never thought when Mike and I did videos on it way back that it'd blow up as big as it's gotten!
i know you'd be here haha, and for real! i thought that even though some big names played this that there was hardly any knowledge of its existence
azuritereaction I read Dazz as Dez and freaked out. You should've done this video. But I understand the logistics.
OzzyOzrock yeah, but i'm satisfied having helped with bringing it into the popular eye initially, cool to see a video on it, Damarziman yep, I plan to make videos until I die :P HJP2208 yeah, it makes sense; I applied for the Bravely Default video as well that they were planning on doing (did QA/localization for it) but never heard back on that either, so I'm assuming they only want people who will bring in views, which makes sense and I can't blame them for that, haha.
Oh shit dude. I remember watching you play this years ago and I could never remember your channel name. I'm so glad you commented!
holy shit i havent watched you for years!!
There is no way in hell "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was unintentional. If it was a properly capitalized title, With would have had emphasis on its W like LSD did. They claim it was unintentional just to avoid parental drama. They're the Beatles, the flagship band of the LSD and pot hippy generation.
calm down
GalleryOFSuicide you're so wrong, you don't even know, man. Don't talk shit about the beatles, you'll be always wrong.
You don't capitalize "with" in titles; it's a preposition just like "in". Agreed that it's not unintentional, though.
Creepy Productions Ikr, that's the main thing my history teacher always told me about them is how blatantly they were into it and how majorly their experiences with LSD effects all their music
Ian Martel you capitalize everything in a title.
This also is nothing like taking LSD, from my own personal experiences.
Well, very high doses of LSD do render crazy visuals like the game (In fact I have flashbacks while playing this game XD ). But I agree it is nothing like micro-dosing for example
Hey everyone check out this guy he does drugs!

SEIZURE WARNING GUYS: Flashing lights at 4:50 to 5:10
twinblademasta that's nice
They were talking about the water, which flashes rabidly with a bright light.
ygsr
I find it weird I didn't even notice that.
CornishCreamtea07 For those unaware, the water flashes wildly because of an emulation error. It's known that the water does not flash when playing the game on console; what's supposed to happen is that the water is a bunch of pixels that portrays static from televisions.
The acronym is for Lovely Sweet Dream.
No, it's for "In Leisure, the Sonorous Dream"
Prodevus Lovely Sweet Dream is in the Art book.
are we just going to make Ludicrously Shitty Descriptions?
there is no standard acronym
I guess my link got spammed even though the app allows links.
just search "mikennemonic lovely sweet dream" on youtube.
"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds also had LSD as an initialism but unintentionally."
Hahahaha, what?
Tha Beatles
This game had a cd either with it or at least involving some of the soundtrack called "Lucy in the sky with dynamite" And I think it was a reference
Be fun to see a sequel to this with our modern technology

PCP: Dream Emulator.
the fact saves are referred to as "flashbacks" kinda cements the drug refrence.
Imagine playing LSD on LSD. That should be a trip and a half.

This game needs a Unreal Engine 4 remake!
Conker The Squirrel I just commented the same idea.
Oh
And have the story make more sense.
Conker The Squirrel I don't think it has to make sense at all since it's nothing but a weird dream.

more region locked! this is a great series; properly-written, well-delivered and thoroughly-researched.
I had no idea that this game had such a cult following. I played and finished this game around 2007 when you could convert PSX games to PSP executables. And I reached the ending around day 283, so this pretty much invalidates the authors theory that the ending is related to Japanese Hatsuyume. I reached the ending by filling all the RED dots on the dream matrix which you see after each dream sequence. And at around day 250, I actually had figured out how to roughly control where the dot lands on the dream matrix(in other words, I understood the underlying mechanics of the game logic), so from there it was a breeze to reach the ending which was a huge accomplishment for me at that time. So yeah, i’m very surprised to see that this game is still such a mystery in the gaming community and it’s too bad that at time I didn’t cared about the gaming community (I honestly still don’t do), because I definitely would have shared my findings on how the game actually works. Oh, and sorry for the wall of text :-P
that's so cool!
Very impressed by the quality of content in these videos. Great job following up with the creator. I look forward to more of these.
I must say, this is the only RUclips channel with additional content that I actually look forward too.
This is awesome, I wish we would have more "experience" games like this released here. Like ABZU, etc. Sometimes just exploring and wandering is all that's necessary.
As a runner of this game, I can say that things are still being discovered in this game. I have some highlights of my stream on the channel I'm commenting from; some of which showcase things I've found personally.
DUTCH GOD I'm talking about things like stretches and sudden warps
Pretty interesting.

Now this is one I wanted to know more about....without actually playing it.
This game doesn't parallel any of the acid trips I've been on. It is way more surreal than anything I've experienced through using psychedelics. It doesn't surprise me that this game isn't directly inspired by acid usage. It always seemed more like a modern take on old school surrealism.
The LSD and remixes album looks a little like LSD blotter paper, I'm surprised this game was even legal
Ketai Denjyuu Telefang might be an interesting game to cover, considering it was made into a badly English-translated pirate cartridge and sold as "Pokemon Diamond/Jade". There was also a GBA sequel.

I’m glad more people are becoming aware of this game in recent months because it’s truly fascinating.
lots of cool info in there man thanks!!
btw, i have to mention that this game in real hardware is actually very laggy, and the water doesn't blink like that, it moves kind of like "real water", here's an extract from the lsd dream emulator wiki: "On the original PlayStation and PSP, the water is several dots of different colors, like the static from a television. Although, when playing on an emulator (other than XEBRA), the water quickly flashes between blue, white, and other colors depending on the texture set, and the emulator ePSXe will trigger the water to pulse from blue to grey. It may also quickly flash on and off. In PCSX the water will also slowly pulse in a smooth transition. The appearance of the water can also depend on what ISO file you download."
Thanks for the information. I enjoyed watching the let's play videos and I have wondered what the deal was.

THIS CHANNEL IS MAD UNDERRATED
They should remake this game.
With virtual reality capabilities too
ßax that would be amazing. Terrifying, but cool
It would make the meaning of the game much more clearer with the new technology that engines have acquired.
ßax there IS a remake of this game being made
ßax yeah for the PS4 VR
"we didn't know for sure so we just asked the dude" I love this channel
Whenever I DJ, I play house and tech house tracks that are real dreamy. My go to visuals on my projector for the last year have always been long plays of this game. It works so well, I’ve always wanted to play it
Yume Nikki acts as a sort of spiritual successor to LSD, it's also got a cult following.
Well researched information about this crazy little fella. Thanks! Should play it with the Pud-J5A for once. ^^'
4:43 That thing scared the absolute hell out of me
So happy they did a vid on this game its been my favorite since i was a child
If ever they port it for PSN, it should have VR capabilities. You know, to make the experience authentic. Also, could you imagine a HD remake of this? With the textures, creature models, lighting, text etc all in glorious 1080p?
What a trip indeed.
Please talk about the Japan exclusive *Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen* on the Super Nintendo sometime on region locked
Thanks for taking me on this little LSD trip, Region Locked.
Lsd dream emulator remake for ps4
not really wouldnt be the same
Aethelwulf Gaming Fair enough, but I would like to see a modern equivalent of this game made. Something that takes the weird psychedelic dreamscape and brings it to a modern audience. Something like Yume Nikki but three dimensional, and horror esque.
lazyrmc look up LSD Revamped, someone's remaking it for PC. The update is coming out soon which adds a ton of things to it and I can't wait.
very nice! but you haven't talked about the grey man inside the game 😱
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was anything BUT unintentional acronym for LSD
2:10 That's just weird.
4:26 That's what I found surprising. When I first heard about this in I believe 2014 I felt very sure it was a drug reference. Boy was I shocked to find out it wasn't XD
That game sells for around 300$... Do what you want because a pirate is free, you are a pirate!
excelente trabajo Bro. es interesante tu canal y que porfin alguien detallara lo que es este juego. *subtitles generated automatically make your best effort greetings*
If you think the acronym really isn't a reference to the drug, you've never done the drug. Giving those sorts of words as "what it stands for" is right in line with the LSD experience.
I was utterly fascinated with this game in my early yt days. One of the first LPs I had ever watched was of someone playing through LSD. I believe they said that the game was a mixture of a dream journal and someones recording of an LSD drug trip so im glad to know it was only half true.
looks super cool, good video

You guys should talk about Moon or Lack of Love L.O.L. These games were made by some Mario RPG/Chrono Trigger devs like Kenichi Nishi (Chibi-Robo and Captain Rainbow creator)
Radd_BGM This. I'd love a Region Locked on Love-de-Lic/Skip Ltd./Punchline.
An hd remaster of this is needed
Also you might find that a lot of the acronyms used parallel the descriptions other people have given for LSD.
dazz's pronunciation of cho aniki's name is majestic.
A couple corrections: It is intentionally named after the drug LSD. Here's a quote from an interview with him:
"A big thing also was that I was able to release the game with the name LSD without a single complaint from anyone. At the time I thought that having that name LSD would catch people’s eye, like “Hey, what’s this now?” LSD goes back to that LSD, the one that was popular in hippie culture in San Francisco and so on, like what we all said the Beatles used. I was kind of shouting out to the psychedelic movement in a game. The psychedelic movement and PC culture were also pretty intertwined on the West Coast in the US."
And the lack of localization was not Sato's choice, it was Sony's. Here's a quote from the same interview, just 2 lines down:
"I had hoped to release LSD in the US, too, but that didn’t happen."
To be fair, this interview occurred a year after this video was uploaded. However, I think it's a bit daft to think that the game wasn't named after the drug. Even the cover art for the game is clearly meant to be blotter art.
You need to talk about kao the kangaroo 3 which was exclusive in Poland and never got translated to the u.s

I wanna see a 2020 remade version of this that would be amazing
ikr? I'd really like to see something like that.. maybe the developers behind the revamped version of LSD will do something in the future. who knows
Nice Vid Dazz :)
nah im pretty sure the LSD in the title is intentional but since it's a real life drug they try to "hide" it's meaning to avoid controversy
I played the heck out of this game on emulator. It was interesting for the first few hours, but after a while, it started feeling horribly repetitive. I mean, on VERY rare occasions I would still find something I hadn't seen before, but even that wasn't too interesting because I knew it would do the same thing as everything else: Touch me and send me to an area that I've seen a thousand times already (And usually with randomized textures that I'd seen before, too). It got to the point where the only thing keeping my interest were the occasional video dreams, and those are few and far between when you get late into the game (Not to mention a bunch of them are just text, which I can't read, which makes them useless to me).
I mean, it was fun to find out what the ferris wheel did, and I was scared the first time I had the gargoyle attack me or had the weird looking tiki guy throw his head at me, among other things, but at this point, I feel like I've seen everything worth seeing. The goal of "Play through 365 dreams" was just not enough for me. I think I got to something like day 150-200 before I decided I was too bored to continue playing.
But as this game has a bit of a cult following: Am I missing something? Because it just feels boring walking into things and finding the same things over and over again. Like, it's worn out its welcome. :p Maybe it's just not my type of game, or maybe most players DO get tired of it after a while?
Looks like the person who made this was on a lot of LSD.
So of where the art/dreams came from is similar to that of the Cat Soup anime movie.
I am a huge fan of this and Osamu Sato's other works, like Chu Teng.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds wasint an unintentional name. Even Though the Beatles said it was during one interview.
I have always regarded this game as very interessting, and sort of groundbreaking (it atleast introduced a new niche to the gaming world). However, I have always been sold by the soundtrack (especially the remixes), and in the end, Osamu should really just stick to his amazing compositional skills
You forgot about "Linking the Sapient Dream".
Also, if the decision to release the game in the west is up to Sony, we should petition them to release it. That's probably the least we could do to try and get it released to the people that want to play it.
Sure, the title LSD can be given plenty of different acronyms, but even still, they chose the title on purpose. There's no way they didn't consider the association, even if they deny that it is a reference to the drug.
i see you fixed ト to ド
it kinda bugs me a bit on murasame castle
