    I would recommend buying vintage cashmere sweaters, to those who don't want to see their sweaters slowly fall into a decline. I buy almost entirely vintage cashmere blazers, sweaters, wool and cashmere blazers, and they are decades old and look brand new. And I didn't pay a crapload of money for them either. Thrift, consignment, and Etsy is everyone's friend. Great video!

    Love this!! I like to invest in high quality basics (keeping in mind that everyone has different "basics" in their wardrobe) made at least slightly more sustainably and then I shop vintage/pre-loved for my accent pieces like printed tops and fun blazers etc. I definitely have a budget and I care very deeply about sustainability while still enjoying fashion so my biggest concern is how long I'm going to be able to keep an item in my wardrobe. If it's something I may no longer like in a couple years then I only really buy it if its pre-loved. If it is flimsy and cheap I won't buy it even if I love it because I know it will waste my money and hurt the planet when it quickly becomes unwearable. I think this is really important for saving money as well as saving the planet's resources.

    I wash my silk at home, softly in cold water and dry iron (without steam) the piece at a low temperature before it dries. That way I don't spend that much in dry cleaning and avoid the smell of perc (which is the only cleaning solution they use in my country). It takes some of your time, though. Big hug!

    • @abdul8901
      @abdul8901 4 года назад

      I do this too, even with my precious equipment shirts, and I've had no problems so far. If anything, it's more gentle on the fabric than the harsh dry cleaning solutions.

    I love your videos, keep them coming. I spend the most, relatively, on silk items, coats, shoes, bags and jewelry, all in classic styles because I keep them forever, or almost, and these are the items where I think quality matters the most. Even then, I never buy designer; to me an expensive item comes from Nordstrom. Everything else comes from high street brands (usually called mall brands here in USA, though we are gradually adopting the British term, too, because it is used in more countries, our equivalent “Main Street” doesn’t work for fashion). My long wool winter coat is 30 years old and in perfect condition, if out-of-style, but it is Dior (oops, I guess I did buy designer brands when, as a career woman, I had more money to spend on clothes, my life is now very casual).

    I have become a fan of Asos this year now that they have an international free returns in NZ that is extremely easy to use and doesn't leave you paying any postage at all. I agree with you that it is a good idea to try and save on occasion wear. I bought a ball gown 5 years ago for $700 and wore it only once. I don't want to wear it again as I got a lot of photos of me at that event. This Summer coming I have a couple of evening events coming up where I want to wear two different long dresses but didn't want to spend so much money. Being 183 cm tall it is not so easy for me to shop pre loved online but Asos tall section has been amazing to try out a bunch of options cut for tall people. I have now purchased two great evening maxi dresses that look way more expensive than what I paid for them - both from Asos Tall - and I was able to return the items that didn't suit me. I see they have petite and plus size ranges also, so thats my tip for people who are not in the average size range! The quality can be hit and miss but I keep the hits and return the misses!

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  5 лет назад

      They've started doing the same thing in Australia which is incredibly handy! I occasionally shop from the Tall range for swimwear/jumpsuits (not quite as tall as you - I'm 172cm) and I think it's great that they cater to so many different body types. Agree that it's hit or miss but those ASOS gems are always goodies, plus they seem to have some gorgeous going out options. Definitely a great place to look. On the high street (though it doesn't have the same shipping/returns policy), Topshop also do a tall/petites range too.

    &other stories is a great source for silk shirts in multitude of colors and patterns. I wash them in washing machine on gentle program. When silk has been washed and air-dried, it comes out hard and wrinkled but smoothes entirely back to the original fabric feel when ironed.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  5 лет назад

      Ooh thanks for the tip re: & Other Stories. I'm waiting for the day they start shipping to AU as I love browsing their site. I find that if it's a washed silk, it doesn't necessarily go back to its original condition (with that sueded brushed effect) when I do that - might be the kind of detergent that I use!

    • @cuirka
      @cuirka 5 лет назад

      @@mademoisellejaime maybe... detergent counts a lot. I use wool&silk detergent and no softener. Washing at 40 degrees C, spinning at 800rpm and drying on a hanger. then ironing on silk setting (or medium heat, two dots, ideally with steam) and it goes back to original effect that I'd indeed describe as suede brushed... Anyway, once they start shipping to AU, beware, as you may get addicted! Their clothes are fantastic value, great quality for very reasonable prices, perfect, flattering cuts and consistent sizing.

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  5 лет назад

      @@cuirka next time I do a grocery shop I'm going to look for a wool&silk detergent cos at the moment I use the same one for all the rest of my shopping. Yes I get a feeling I probably will. I figure there must be a reason why the UK bloggers talk about it all the time - it has to be good!

    Such a useful video! I’m definitely the same. I never buy bags or clothes which cost thousands of dollars, to be honest with a good quality piece, $200-300 is way enough. What u end up buying is just the brand...

    • @mademoisellejaime
      @mademoisellejaime  5 лет назад

      Thank you! I've definitely watched videos for luxury brands where you can see that the level of detail, quality of the materials, workmanship and physical hours put into a product is incredibly high, so I can understand the higher price point to a degree but I totally agree you're buying a brand. And that's fine if you completely love the bag and it's where you want to spend your money. I love Chanel bags but I find that the constant raising of the price to be off-putting. If I'd bought a classic flap 8 years ago I think the price was around $3K, now it's more like $8K - inflation hasn't risen that much in that space of time!
