I've been thinking a lot about the bearings/bushings approach from Tamiya, and this kit/video kind of cemented my opinion of why they do it, I think from their perspective, a large amount of their customers will build a kit and then never take it apart to inspect bearings or busings etc - the reason I think this kit highlights this is that the gearboxes contain bearings, hidden away and protected, whereas the axles if built as the manual suggests has bushings where there is more likely to be dirt/water ingress - would be interesting to benchmark something like an offroader after a year of bashing, two kits built one with full brgs and one with the plastic/bronze bushes. I think you'd find (in English weather certainly!) the bushed car would probably be in better shape after a year with no maintenance. Just my two cents, and doesn't mean my TXT-2 isn't coming with a full brg set to replace the bushings.
Fantastic channel,I became hooked with the Clod build, and ended up building not 1 but 2 myself, gained alot of insight on them and borrowed a few ideas from you. Thank you, keep up the fantastic channel!
Great Kit. I used the FTX 550 motors in mine more than enough power/speed. I think this day and age and the price of Tamiya kits they should do ball bearings as standard.
Just finally ordered a Clod today, but the Agrios looks like a pretty high quality build with all that metal in the diffs . Maybe I need to look into one .
The setup and structure of Agrios is so similar to the TXT1. The latter structure is in aluminium. I am sure there are improvements in the later version. Thank you Gavin! Next question is, should I buy an Agrios?
Great buildt :) Would have put bearings close to the diff, and bushings on the dog bone end though. When I had my clod buster backin the day, It had plastic bushings and ball bearings on the diff. Really never wear out the plastic bushings. Even the wheel bushings lasted. Not many rpm on them, and good shielded from dust.
i somehow got a hold of the agrios myself after it's pretty much sold out or unavailable in canada. after watching your versus video against the clod buster, i really wanted to get this.
That was fun.... I kindly mention... if the next time you run out of ball bearings,. install as many ball bearings on the inside as possible, and the spindles/knuckles, install the bronze bushings... so that you can easily have access to change out the bronze units with out having to take the whole unit apart.. as you would only need to take a couple screws apart to change the units in the spindles/knuckles... This was fun though... I may have missed where it is stated the scale.. the box says "1/10th".. but the axles look massive... are these plastic axle halves the same or at least the same size as the axle halves like what was in the JUGGERNAUT 1 & 2 ? Please, anybody may answer this if you know.. as my next project will be to build a HEMTT and these axle designs are what I want, just like the JUGGERNAUT high pinion input with gear reduction inside the axles... I have spent about an hour hunting for info upon this and not a whole lot of info on the size of them.
Becca should help sight you in tamiya is a good read when building any kit I always highlight with yellow pen when doing double or oriented sections or left and right placement
Hi Gavs, great build. Regards the metal diff parts, to be fair the metal is not great quality and cast, I would rather have a tough plastic than that metal.
Miiiighty tire tower. Cool video, good job. It is a very impressive car. I can,t wait to see your running video and review of it. Do you still kow with axle was the one with the brass bushings? For me I´d rather build a second Clod, or a Juggernaut if I could get one. Maybe Tamiya thought brass bushings would be an improvement to the nylon ones lol. For the motors you necessarily don´t need a dual motor ESC. Just a Y-motor-cabel for a parallel circuit will do it. My Kyosho FourRunner worked with this. But the ESC should get along with twice the current. The principe of putting two motors will improve more force but maybe not more speed. I liked the FourRunner it was more precursor to the actual scale crawlers than the CC-01 chassis. Unfortunately I had to sell it.
Nice Monster Truck. But the Wheels look a bit too small for a M.T. Clod sized Wheels would look so much better on it. But maybe the Axels cant handle the weight of thoose Wheels. I made some adapters to fit Clod Wheels on a CR-01 chassis and it looks very nice.
Great video as ever Gav. However I am slightly disappointed Rebecca is no longer doing it. I saw that she will be building the classic Sand Scorcher but don’t see why she can’t do both.
gonna get expensive? esp if sensored. I'd say a pair of 12v 570 drill motors would work and run 3s. Lots cheaper and plenty of torque, makes 540 motors seem weedy. Even the 550 class isn't much on a 570.
looking forward to the next one. I wish more kits were available, I want something complex to build and be proud of! buying RTR is cool but nowhere near the sense of ownership and achievement. Great video, liked and subscribed 👍
I have the original TXT-1. I believe you said that the flat chassis side plates were metal, but are the side plates that look like tubing plastic or are they metal as well?
I could be wrong but it looked like you were missing a bearing on the outer most part of the outdrive or pinion that the driveshaft attaches to. Maybe it's done after? I only saw one bearing and a e-clip.
After watching that part of the video again I'm convinced that you need to add a bearing to each of your axles. I have one of these trucks too and it's a great build, enjoy!
@RCKicks I hope you see this, but you left bearings out of the axles.. the input shaft has 3 bearings on it, one on the bevel gear nose, and two 1160s behind, the one against the back of the gear and one against the e clip right at the "back"
yeah yeah its all poor Rebecca's fault - you're very brave when she isn't there to defend herself :) just kidding of course, thanks for the content and have a lovely Christmas, rake care.
Always wanted to build this kit, but then the upgrades I would add would cost twice as much as the kit (dual brushless escs, dual brushless motors, bearing kit, 8 TXT-2 upgrade shocks, RC4WD clod wheels, and clod style tires...).
I really do think that Tamiya are missing a trick not doing more complicated kits like this. There are a large number of RC car hobbyists for who building the cars is more enjoyable than driving them.
I truly believe they don’t include so many bearings due to the fact there appointed consumer is not one to do maintenance as bearings require maintenance where bushings really don’t
That price is insane. I just bought a traxxas stampede kit and by the time you factor the extras was probably cheaper. I thought most tamiya stuff was the cheaper end of the scale?
@@adrianharrison5208 the transmission does look pretty substantial and not the usual plastic fantastic. What are the dimensions of it when it’s complete? I’m a little confused why it has 2 smaller motors and not one single one with some oomph to it?

Nice build! As an American, i do not use the word rubbish very often, but that word describes brass bushings perfectly.
Man those pinions are SHINY, don't think I've ever seen some so polished lol.
Great build video! Salutations from California.
Hey, thanks!
What a beast, cant wait for part 2. Hope Tamiya release a NEW monstertruck soon.

thanks for sharing, I like this car/truck as well. your music is good, your explanation/description is good, your video /quality /angle is good too.
Merry Christmas to you and your family from Sweden. Thanks for making this miserable year a bit brighter.
Well just managed to watch the first part and I must say that you are making some really exellent Tamiya Monster truck videos..
on to part two :)
What an absolute UNIT! Love it, can’t wait to watch the next one :)
Always wanted one of these, superb video so detailed.
What a tricky monster! Looking forward to part 2 ⛄🎄❄️🎅

The clod is epic but you have to mod the steering to on wheel servo steering if you want it to actually change direction properly.
Super cool man that’s for doing monster trucks
