    brings back great memories. Bought one in 1987 with money I earned washing dishes at an Italian restuerant making $3.35 an hour. Saved for months to get the kit, Futaba Magnum Jr, battery and charger. Stayed up till the sun came up assembling it.

    It's a time machine that not only takes you back to the best RC monster truck from almost 35 years ago, but also with performance that matches full sized monster trucks of that era.

    You are taking me way back in time...I had 3 CLODBUSTERS from 1987 til 1992. Various stages of mods etc. Then revisited them again many years later converting to crawlers etc. The CLOD is a LEGEND and will always be. No one can deny that. Thank you for the trip back in time and fond memories. Great video!!!

    I still have my original clod buster. I bought it with my paper route money. I was saving up for a Bruiser. When I went to buy it I was told it was discontinued and the clodbuster replaced it. I wasn’t leaving the hobby shop without something. It was big. It was bad. It could drive in the snow, and float in the deep puddles. It was a load of fun.

      The Black editions are pretty expensive now, I just sold 2 on ebay for $600 each, and I was by far the cheapest. I bought them in the spring but fell out of R/C and never built them.
      Keep an eye out though, this wasn't the first release of the Black Edition, they might run a new batch next year or in the future.

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  2 года назад +1

      Yes on the Tamiya USA website it says “discontinued “ but if we’ve learned anything from Tamiya, the egress and Avante have been rereleased numerous times in batches. I wouldn’t be surprised if they came out with another rendition of the clod.

  • @AddamsPlayground

    Just a suggestion but keep the dual steering, you can change the way it is done but the dual steering is kind of needed. It take a country mile without. I am sure with enough upgrades up front you may be able to use just front steer but you just can't get enough throw with the stock setup from what I have experienced. Great looking truck and certainly a fun one to drive. Glad you got one and happy for you being able to get out for 2 hours and not flip it once... that has to be a record, I know it would be for me!

    Really really good video of the Clod Buster. The first thing I would do to protect your fun. Would be the lower chassis brace where the tailing arm connect. This is the weak link of the clod if one of the front tires takes a hit it usually results in the chassis breaking at that point. The bearing were the only upgrade/hop-up I could think of and you did that. Next would be hop-up motors. I know people hate the shocks and the 4ws but that’s what’s makes me laugh about my two Clod Busters. What class on the race track will it be in.

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  2 года назад +1

      The XL monster truck class 😂 I’ll definitely look into that chassis brace. Thanks for the advice

    I was so disappointed that the USA-1 didn't turn out to be a Clod killer. Not because I didn't like the Clod but because I was a Kyosho kid. I thought that the 4 wheel independent suspension was far superior on the USA-1. Too bad it was so weak.

    • @RCRetro

    I went from having 1 clod to having 5 clods. But all of them are somewhat different. I have an original. A stage 1 looking like king kong. I have a race edition carbon fiber one & a retro one I'm turning into a bearfoot from 94 and the last one is a sassy chassis clodbuster that's very 80s looking with the blacked out headlights etc. Before I customized my original, I bought a custom painted 90s like ekg decal body. But I still have the original blue body with the headlights still. I only updated the electronics since mine was from 1987

    Great stuff! I know it doesn't have the bow tie grille, but I honestly think this is the best looking official livery for a Clod!
    I have a Bullhead laying around in parts that I really need to get up and running. I prefer the Clod body ideally but it was a steal so I grabbed it a couple of years back. Really need to get around to it. Bullhead black edition maybe?

    • @RCRetro

    How do you manage the mental dilemma of running these awesome kits.
    Part of me wants to build and shelf them, keep them pristine and the other part says they deserve to be run.

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  Год назад +1

      That's a very good question. I"m not quite sure I can give you a clear cut answer. It all depends on what it is. If it is a restoration, I might run it before I restore it. Once restored it become a shelf queen. If it is a rerelease that I plan on utilizing all the time, then its the "I don't care mentality" if it gets scratched. Some kits I just want to run lightly and try to minimize damage. This Clodbuster is one of them. In the 2 hours of having it out I only flipped it 1x and that was on the grass so there was no damage or scuffs. I pushed my luck and won... A Wild Willy 2 that had a patriotic theme, I ran on a track, only flipped it once... thankfully the roll bar saved it from getting scratched... that's now a shelf queen too.. I just filmed my Super Astute with an alternate body and under tray that is custom painted.. Vid out later in December maybe even January... Yup I'm that far out... But I ran it lightly cause I didn't want to mess the custom painted body up... The buggy itself, arms, hubs are all scratched... it was just the hi cap dampers and body that I didn't want to scratch.. Mission accomplished lol... Sorry for the long rant...But your question is probably one of the best I've been asked.. I have no clear answer lol... It is something many of us have inner debates about....

    • @RCRetro
      @RCRetro  2 года назад

      Thanks for the advice. I'm not really sure about the audio levels. When editing the footage, I reduce the audio levels from 100 to 50. Sometimes even down to 35%. Then when I play it back on my laptop at 100 volume it sounds fine. A few people over the years have made the a similar comment. It is something I'll try to remedy. Thanks.
