I just recently found my poor old Clod Buster with an ESP 4 link chasis in the attic. No speed control, radio or body (I can't believe I lost that body!). Duratrax shocks on the rear and Team Associated shocks on the front. After watching your video, I ordered the 880, a couple of lipo battery packs a charger, a new steering servo and radio. I feel like a kid waiting for Xmas to get here.
Thank you for another great video, I bought a Clodbuster black edition a while ago and have kept it sealed. I thought that tamiya was only going to produce one run and then discontinue them and it would become valuable. Around Christmas they were sold out and guys on ebay were asking $600-$800 USD. Now a fresh shipment came in from Japan and they are easily obtainable. Your videos make me want to open mine and get it running. I have a vintage tekin titan esc that would be perfect for it, I always liked the kyosho magnetic mayhem motors
Thanks for the great comment Joe! I gotta tell ya, every time I run the Clod I've got a giant smile from ear to ear! It's so much fun bouncing around, rolling over everything it touches. And your comment about the Kyosho motors is spot on! I actually searched around for a while trying to find a set (that were reasonably priced) but had no luck. 🤙
My 1st clod had a Titan, and esp chassis with cantilever suspension, that was probably 25+ years ago..Titan was great back then, not many other esc's could run dual motor at higher voltage, 10 nmh cell if I remember.
Fantastic video I love the clod buster. You definitely have to upgrade the clod buster as the standard motors are terrible lacks power. Great to see this video 👍🏻
The best brushed motors for a clod these days are the Holmes Hobbies Retro Sports by a long shot. They are high torque crawler motors but available down to 15 turn and run slower than you would expect. On mine a set of 17t motors almost completely eliminated axle stall.
Ive got a holmes hobbies 21t on my wild one - works a treat - i want to get a couple for my clod - i still use 7.2 nimh - did you find the 17t works ok on inclines?
@@ollysmooBy inclines I assume you are asking if the front spins more than the rear, that’s what I mean by axle stall. Short of a dual sensored low kv brushless setup, these will be your best bet for torque without swapping to 550 size motors, which won’t clear the stock suspension.
@@rcnitroflux2361 thanks dude, that really means a lot! I'm working my butt off to grow this channel and it's comments like this that put major wind in my sails. Appreciate it!!! 👊😁
Ah yes, the Clod Buster rabbit hole is a deep one... There are many exciting twists and turns along the way. Buckle up, it's going to be an adventure! 😆👊🏼🍻
20T might be a good option for me.... I bought my Clod so long ago, I can't remember if I got a Hobbywing 880 with it or not! I know I SHOULD have. My old Clod, I ran with 27T ROAR Stock Motors. I disabled the Timing lock.... and ran them 12 degrees Timing rear.... and 12 degrees NEGATIVE Timing front!! 😜 That's tough to explain to a young guy today, but I think you get it. 😉
The 20T is good, I need to glue my wheels to the tires to get the full effect from the upgrade, I'm getting a bit of wheel spin. Cool trick you did with the timing on your ROAR motors, I bet that Clod was a blast! 🤙
@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks before gluing mine the wheels (mostly rear) would spin inside the tires under hard acceleration, made a cool chirp sound like it was burning rubber! 🤣
Try the 25kg waterproof servos found on Amazon, they work great, have good power and aren't expensive. You could go for the 35kg for even more power! 👊
Great vid, just finished putting my clod together and already looking to mod it. Do you run it on a 2s or 3s battery? I went for the 4 wheel steering mod but more speed might be fun, but more speed means a new body I bet.

I have a Question! How did you route the motor leads to the ESC! Wire's! They're kinda short! Because I did buy a set of 15 turn Dynamite motors and yes I bought the Hobbywing quicrun 880 ! Please help if you can! The wire's from the ESC are short as well!
Hey Jesse, I just ran my motor wires in the stock location, through the hole in the bottom of the chassis. No issues with reach. Perhaps your 15T motors have shorter leads on them than my 20T motors do? Not to worry, you can always install longer wires on the motor, or even build an adapter to give you some more length. 🤙
Thanks brother! It's a CPE chassis which I think has been discontinued. I've got a video in the works to go over it all real soon, running video too! So stay tuned! 👊
