I think the three captains landed because their control group was locked, so the attack order gave them three different targets and only one of them was going to attack the hellcannon.
Hmm yeah that could be true, I was really confused and didn't understand why they landed.
For sure, that's why he keeps getting the red arrow when he moves them, it's supposed to be yellow if it's not locked.
tbh I think its just a bug with the newest dlc release, I havent had this issue with my counts till the new dlc popped.
Mattia Moro is correct. Group attack makes them target the first thing in front of each unit. The captain saw the unit before the hellcannon so he landed.

Wow, CA managed to recreate the Western Front vibes in WW 1. Great game.
looks more like Eastern front to be honest. With artillery don't having enough shells to last a half of battle, officers taking the desperate lead and melee charge of exhausted ammo-less troops right from the marsh before reinforcements with something to shoot with finally arrive.

I was actually thinking of renaissance warfare. You know, artillery and pike and shot. Almost looked like a tercio there at the end.
@@SimoLInk1698 Sadly the Empire is WH2 is the only pike and shot game that I know of (plus heroes and steam tanks, but still). It's quite strongly influenced by the Early Modern HRE.

It was extremely satisfying to see the handgunners just mow down the chariots and cavalry units. Poetry in motion I say.
Pretty gratifying, after watching the Captains on Hippogryffs charging down chariots so many times earlier in the battle...

Helstorm Rocket Battery is really fun, could potentially ruin the campaign after one particularly bad ambush though.
Yeah lol. I'm playing a skaven campaign right now and the Empire keeps making very artillery heavy armies. I keep ambushing them and making sure their artillery are all in range of my 3 Plagueclaw Catapults, 3 Warp Lightning Cannons and 5 Warplock Jezzails right at the opening of the battle. They're lucky if they get one shot off before all the artillery is gone.

Multiplayer army comps are different :P
Multiplayer melee infantry are more powerfull as there is no bonus in opposing force.
They as well serve tactical role and are mandatory to make most missile units/artilery not to suck. Player unlike AI will not let free missile units to live.

It’s so satisfying because you can recreate that one scene from 300 where the arrows blot out the sun but instead of arrows it’s explosive rockets

There are 2 ways to go full Soviet:
-Send endless waves of troops at the enemy until they die
OR
-Obliterate the enemy instantly with relentless Katyusha barrages

Old comment I know, but that is actually a pretty wrong myth with some little truth at the core. By 1943 the Soviet Union was relatively low on manpower, they did not throw away lines needlessly. Due to the purge the leadership was not very good when Operation Barbarossa started, but in the end the soviets actually were doing pretty well on a strategical stage where they abused any openings that appeared with very fast and strong offensives which obviously costed lifes, but it also shortens the overall war and potentially saves lifes.
This might appear as "human-wave tactics" to the individual soldier, but they did not do those pushes where it was not useful and they did not have endless waves available. While the number of soviet casualties is truly staggering, that can be attributed mostly to being suprised by Barbarossa and very bad initial leadership and then fighting a brutal offensive war on the most brutal front of the war in europe.
A disaster battle as the Empire against Chaos? In WH2? Impossible
If you let chaos get out of control (and in lower difficulties for what I've noticed) the chaos is a lot stronger.
@@mr.paperbag771 lower difficulties is because the ai doesn't have as many cheats so aren't as prepared for dealing with the choas invasion
i was a little disappointed that the army loss penalty came so soon. i was just waiting to see those cav in the back get mowed down

This was what makes the empire great: Steel, faith and gunpowder!
Did you know that Units, especially Archers, get a bonus when fighting from high ground? They get a bonus when fighting on walls. Issue being they miss more often (which CA should fix).
yeah, if i remember infantry get morale bonuses. thats why that staunch line of halbadiers dindt break
@@clairelili873 He seems to miss a lot of things when explaining. Sure, with the AI cheats the Infantry still has a worse position, but it's not as bad as he says most of the time... Just plays bad.
@@klonvomhaus The problem of playing in legendary is that you cant have units that perfome "all right". yes, melee infsntry is a all right unit, especially in the early game with the right race and units. but between them and having units that do great, you want to pick the great ones. as legend says, they work best being the meat shield for the true damage dealers tham being the damage dealers. and i'm speaking from someone who plays on hard and the ai dont get that many buffs still.
@@clairelili873 Oh, I never said legend is wrong. He just doesn't know how to use the units that aren't the ones he would pick, which I found a bit weird for someone who saves campaigns with units he doesn't regularly choose at all all the time.
What I'm trying to say is, he might have gotten a few better results if he had known those things. So even a man who plays this game as much as Legend does can learn a couple things. Especially since you "have to" use a certain army at least in the beginning of the game. Maybe you can even have a more powerful start if you place some spearmen on top of a hill or somesuch, and recruit more of them, for a couple turns.
All in all he's WAY better at this game than I am, and I respect his abillity to save nearly every campaign he gets sent. Like, even if it's REALLY in the shits.

always always have magic in an army. A single fire wizard often gets more kills than the rest of the army.
Saw that in most battles, 2 3 heroes are sent ahead keeping the enemy armies busy and then shoot the hell out of them. Would be great if the AI would partially ignore the heroes and head straight towards the missle units.
I'm in a veeeerry similar situation in my Gelt campaign right now so this was super helpful. I may suck at this game but now I know what I need to do.

good thinking with the reinforcement ordering, one thing that came to mind when u mentioned the gunners halberdiers altering is that u could have had one haldberdier army and one gunner army, then id assume they would reinforce in that altering order
You know situation is dire when Legend bothers to use banners 😉
To be fair, he usually ends up getting the worst banners, things like scaring flying units. I'd think he'd love the + speed one.
By turn 99 or whatever it is, EACH of your armies should have a spellcaster in them, no excuses!
