Huh, I thought my lategame Brettonian economy was just really bad, turns out I didn't know vows existed.
Its really ironic, bretonnia gets an economy strong enought to make it possible to overlook something like a 500% upkeep-debuff

Bretonnians are currently insanely op in campaign for the player. Their end game is just nuts, with insane economy and units
@@simonsalgueiro6217 yup their high tier units are fairly cheap with right lords and they devastate enemies in the field.
@@xgfreedom And, if you want to get even better economy, with tech and lord buffs questing knights are much cheaper but insaaaaaaanely good for their price. They become such powerhouses in lategame with their good stats and ap. Of course, grail knights are stronger, but not by a huge margin
10k upkeep for a stack of knights errands... you'd be better off not even having an army in that case lol
I think Legend was right, he probably just lost the general that had the vow or was waiting for Mogen or another general with the knights vow to replace the recruiting lord.

It looks like he's autoresolved or attritioned his army into that state based on the evenly distributed casualties in the starting army.
That's very French of you to split their army up and fight them one by one. Napoleon would be proud.
I feel like the game does not do a particularly good job of pointing out the vows even exist. And this player only had the vows they start with (repanse gets all of hers from the start, and Mogen gets the first by default). My guess is when you opened the vow tab it was news to this player. I only noticed it when watching you play Bretonnia (luckily I had never play the Brets myself or I would have likely had the same problem this guy did).
Yeah I recently tried my first Bret campaign and only randomly noticed the tab while leveling up after many turns

@@andrewgodly5739 The vows were added in a patch after Bretonnia work, they were not originally there, just like the oath-gold or whatever the Dwarfs are collecting now.
I never had a problem with it because I'm just the kind fo guy that goes around the entire UI looking for what it does and what options I have, especially in Warhammer where every single faction has some kind of gameplay added to it.

True but everyone's like oh I never knew vows existed, I mean do people really not read the "how they play" section while starting a new faction? Even if you don't read those, the 'knights' literally have a circle on their unit card stating that it'll cost immensly high upkeep if the lord doesnt have knight's vow.
In my opinion those are more than enough ways to remind anyone who's paying any attention at all.

@@gmabitx1 It's also because it's just uninteresting, time consuming and repetitive game mechanics that don't add much. Honestly when I play total war I don't want to bother with spies, picking the optimal items for my heroes and optimizing the 32nd town, especially when it's so tedious to do it. So eventually you don't bother.
Imagine if you could just open a window and have like 20 towns there and be able to quickly choose what buildings you want, and actually be able to switch between building types without having to destroy them to even see what else you could potentially build or navigate through some shitty window somewhere. Or maybe just one window to actually handle your heroes and see who has his vows ready or whatever.
At early, no. But when you have like 5+ army, no doubt. lol

In my current High Elf campaign with some proper traits, skills and maybe embedded heroes/followers I can have no upkeep dragons or White Lion of Chrace lol

full stack of half damaged knights errant means the dude that sent this in was probably auto resolving his battles
What I used to do, on normal you can get away with it 90% of time.
In normal Campaing and hard battle you get away with it still 70% of time, when you dont have any plan of the game even more
I auto resolve battles all the time if they are pretty obvious wins(in all my total war games not just talking warhammer) I just dont feel like spending 10 minutes on a battle I am basically garunteed to win anyway

I rarely auto resolve.
Yes, you may win.. BUT: the amount of casualties you take is MUCH lower if you know how to handle yourself in a manual battle.. and less casualties = higher combat tempo. less casualties ALSO = less money spent per battle which again = higher combat tempo. Blitzkrieging is possible, but not with auto-resolve.
If you don't find them fun.. I totally get it.. but personally I like utterly dominating and keeping my army moving.
Patton had it right: make the OTHER guy spill blood and die for their country.
At the beginning of any Total War campaign I can normally achieve 2:1 casualty ratios.. and once I'm in 50 turns, that becomes like 6:1. And late game I've seen 10:1 or greater.
Literally the only battles I auto-resolve are when I stupidly outnumber the other army above say 10:1 or more (about 2-3 units vs. 20)
@@rbarnes4076 again depends on the situation if it's significant enough I'm worried about the losses I'm doing the battle if not fuck it auto resolve and let em just replenish it away
Can we talk about how amazing of a legendary lord Repanse is. For three quarters of the battle was surrounded by infantry and was fighting a lord and was winning for half of it and never began losing the battle
I've just taken a whole castle by sending Repanse and Henri in after throwing enough rocks at the gate lol

10:13 Yeah, maps not scaling with unit sizes is pretty stupid, especially in sieges. On ultra, armies barely fit into cities.

Just took Karak Eight Peaks last night with a Skarsniks 20 stack with a Waagh! army attached against the muitnous gits (Karak garrison+20 stack). It was just a nightmare flood of goblings and squigs pressed into a 1/4 of a Total warhammer map.
That's why I play on large, it makes a huge difference. Also my 20 unit 4 armies skaven spam lagged like hell lol

Tell that to a Stegadon doomstack when you don´t have the followers that decrease upkeep and 5-6 other armies.

Legend, do you have, like, a rundown of tips/tricks for starting out or the like? A 'What to do and definitely NOT do' list? Big fan of the vids, but still feel like there's probably some key aspects I (and I'm guessing other inexperienced players) are missing out on.
(I have no aspirations to play on Legendary or anything, but the tips and tricks like dealing with sieges, for instance, have been mega useful :) )
ESPECIALLY sieges
He has first 20 turns guides to Legendary, I think they are good for getting the do's and dont's of the more critical part of a playthrough.
Do not underestimate the usefulness of mages, that's my tip
@@dmitriygryaznov9210 Some specific tricks don't work on lower difficulty levels like the skaven tier 5 trick but the rest is definitely good advice for people newer to a faction.
Only problem is some of them have been tweaked since recent updates.
@@deatheven13 Indeed, given update and difficulty differences I should have said "general do's and dont's" with emphasis on "general".
I've never seen anyone run a whole army of Knights Errant lol that cant be an efficient strat. I wouldnt be seen dead without some peasants to hold them in place while I "courageously" charge them from behind 24 times.
Mid game I did this because they are cheap but not peasants and I didnt wanna take a hit to my econemy but I did want to run a few shit armies to soak up a few waves up north while my real armies got work done
I think they maybe the cheapest upkeep for non-peasants, and I only actually ran like 14 with a general I hired with a bad trait
Their bonus to infantry & map wide armor bonus to all units made it so I could use 3-4 of them as fast melee troops against their infantry while I hammered them with more from behind
Half the time they had garr support
Starting for the first time tomorrow, so... I should take notes. 🗒

The elf or dwarf factions are excellent starters due to their army variety and good leadership

@@orumdegondor2644 my first time was goddamn grimgor and i it was a hellish experience that taught me how to utilize every unit to its fullest potential(it was untill turn 50 until i got the entire black craf provibce since i sat at black crag to defend against a dwarf assult that wasnt like the dwarf tide like it is today)
and the second play through was on vampire counts with mannfred and it was a completely different experience because warhammer 1 had a proper chaos tide and they wrecked my shit up

The vow you are suggesting was forgotten is in fact to win a siege battle in a desert region. The kicker is this battle must be at a major settlement. Minor settlement sieges don't work. Field battles in the desert don't either tho!
reminds me of my old campaign with partia in original Rome, the greek cities turned into a masive powerhouse sending full stack after full stack. The mountain passes were littered with heroic victories. First time I learned there is a limit to how many heroic victories the campaign map can show at any given time. Danged armoured hoplites
Shame about the limit. I wish there was a mod to change it..

The game seriously needs to notify you when a vow is ready to be issued. I forget to do that all the time, it's so hard to remember.
Specially since its not only lords but Paladins as well. It can get out of hand.

I'd personally use smaller groups on the fly when you split them up to help with the micro, but other than that great video and commentary. Especially loved the humble admission that you have done some of these stuff yourself while learning, who hasn't :D

I recently picked up WH2 again after a hiatus and I made that exact same mistake with the errant knights on my Repanse de Lyonesse campaign. I hadn't heard about the reworked vow system and literally just overlooked that big fat button in the lord skill UI. Luckily, I was only overpaying for 4 errant knights, but I still feel this guy's pain lol.

Noob like me can never figure out how you can have more than 4k income though carrying 2 full stack armies, that cost almost 20k upkeep.
I’ve never known why when fighting battles, especially stacks like this, they don’t have 4-5 groups. That would be so much easier for targeted approaches and minimal casualties

TIL: 1 month after finishing the Countess campaign on max difficulty by doomstacking every enemy army in a painful slow manner: there is vows.
On turn 100 of a Bretonnain campaign, never even knew there was vows!😅

He's got thousands of hours on historical Total War titles and cavalry was way more common there than in Warhammer 2. If you check out some of his MTW2 Saving your Disaster campaigns, he's able to wipe out entire armies with a single General's Bodyguard unit lol.
Time to fire up the Chaos campaign I completed the other day and throw Giant Memestack into a bad position.
Some people don't like a unit coz its hard for them to use, Legend don't like a unit because he analysed it and came to the conclusion that it is statistically inferior.

Assumin a bug, it happens to me when I get a new lord in the desert idk y it happens, all ik is other people have had the problem too
Yeah I don't know what triggers it but I also remember seeing it in Legends Khetep Livestream, Kheteps army got shamshed near Hexoatl I think but took down 2 good lizards stacks I think orso. And once khetep was reinstated as general all Legends money disapeared. I think it was quite "a lot" like 14K or maybe 40K I don't recall in any case it seems when reinstating (a (formal) faction leader or even maybe a normal general) in certain cases it just deletes your entire treasury.

@@Arthrexx I love community bug fix but I believe it brings its own bugs. I haven't played in a while so I forget what but I remember the sfo discord saying not to use it if possible.
@@CrucifixXII Dunno. Since I use it there hasn't been a bug outside of the dead faction heroes. Even siege bug didn't occur anymore.

After a couple of minor uprades, the Nehekara warriors actually do the same damage, if not more than skeleton spearmen with their bonus to large against cav etc.
Kingdom Come, but the Baldwin's soldier are the skeletons, not the crusaders.
With how many lords I have at the late game there’s no way for me to remember about the vows.

That trick, bombing their leadership with lots of units... reminds me of playing med 2 with only fanatics. They were nearly unbreakable, dirt cheap and as numerous as it gets, you could morale bomb nearly anything. Good times.
Repanse absolutely wrecked face in that battle. She's such a good combat lord.

tbh this would be more of a disaster campaign if the sender was playing as the tomb kings. No archers, barely any anti cav, heck even AI "moron charge" would be deadly
I'm always surprised when I see someone play bretonia and not get their infantry, the grail reliquary and their men at arms are excellent.

I'm having a blast with Clan Skryre, it's so refreshing to be that op, blasting through siege gates with a nuclear missile and rekt up everything with my 2 cent army and magic, in open battle it's a laugh instead, with my 3 ratlings and the 3 sniper units
I've done 2 different Bret campaigns on VH and Legendary and I didn't even know vows existed
I get what they were possibly going for with the cavalry, but that strategy only works if the enemy is going to be easily broken and has a spot in the center you can reliably break. Which means they need a massive weak spot where they should be strongest. Basically your goal with a massive cavalry unit when going up against infantry is to slam into the center of the formation and break through. You then send your horses to slam into the sides of nearby enemies while having the ones that broke through slam into the backs of the enemies in order to cause a mass panic as units begin breaking all over the center of the enemies formation.
I actually used this tactic in my current campaign in Rome: Total War against the Julli. So this tactic can work on normal difficulty fairly easily if the enemy is largely packing light infantry and skirmishers. Even so, I really wouldn't recommend relying on this strategy since it can be easily screwed over if the enemies have high morale or if the AI has a large number of units wielding spears.
I never relied on leadership loss.. my cavalry strategy focus is to massacre the enemy
TBH, on my first bretonia playthrough it took me like 60 turns before I noticed that there are vows
