I did something similar in my Imrik-campaign. I (foolishly) occupied a settlement, and on the next AI-turn, Grimgor attacked it with overwhelming force. I thought my army (that I actually cared about) was done for, until I realized that I could simply jump out of the settlement, concede straight away when he attacked, and my army would 'flee' away without a single casualty while Grimgor retook the settlement. Then I lightningstruck Grimgors armies the next turn, killed them and retook the settlement.
I could almost feel my IQ rising by 1...

@@DJfrostyx Most of his losses is probably on his livestreams. Otherwise i don't think i have come across any "short" videos where he lost a battle.
@@DJfrostyx there was one not too long ago, with high elves I think, against lizardmen, where he said that it took him hours before he managed to win it by luck cause the lizardmen were too many and he ran out of ammo and then the dinos just smashed him

I've had battles where thousands on both sides have died and their bodies are littered everywhere and all that's left is a few dozen men/creatures scrapping it out in the remains, it's hilarious in a really morbid way.

My favourite trap when it comes to minor settlements is having like, 2 or 3 armies in ambush stance right outside of it, works great against chaos or greenskins (although it's only good if it means you can wreck them in auto resolve)

there is a battle when he was playing as Arkhan and got an alliance with Settra
that battle was Settra declaring war on the Black Tower of Nagash,
Legend didn't want that so he try to Be there and Support Nagash army as an allied
what happen is that the player has the option to *Concede Defeat*
so he did that just to fuck up Settra army way way way badly and his army during the support take 0 damage

@@Chaosking620 did something like that once in rome 1. As julii was allied to scipii, but they laid siege to a city i wanted. I joined them, and managed to get the gate on my side down first, so they dropped their ram and ran all around the city, within tower range. Only two of their units remained on the battlefield untill the end. Too bad they had the city, but when the civil war started that army was not worth much.

Legend loses a disaster battle. Except he doesn’t.
I'm playing Grimgore and were fighting a powerful Eshin/Mors confederacy. This video was really helpful, I'm having to lose minor settlements all the time but the Skaven can't retreat from a settlement battle. After a field battle they always have so much left because of their morale. I was wondering if what I was doing was sloppy with all these battered minor settlements. But, after seeing this I feel better and maybe your video helps me turn what I've been doing into something more systematic.
You can pretty much always be expected to loose some minor settlement especially if they don't have walls for the reason he mentioned that they will rush for them first. Building a strong economy and a strong production chain at the back is most important. At some points you get to the stage where outer rim cities don't really matter. At that point it's all about delaying the enemy attempt to strike decisively at every opportunity.
Broken units can come back a few times before shattering. You can always try to let them get back for another beating. Chasing an enemy off the field is nice to win, but sometimes its better to draw out the battle, not kill the enemy leader yet, and kill more troops when they commit to battle once more. Also a good use for cavalry units.

dunno...with replenishment+ROR, i dont see the problem with taking casualties... especially if the ennemy as no other army that can reach next turn AND most of your troops are 1turn recruits.

Some time you can make a trade with the enemy by capture their money pocket and let them have some waste rock.
Man I really hate that new experience points system, you don't get to use 3/4 the skill tree.
i still don't like how short battles are in warhammer, i mean this was supposed to be a tough battle and it lasted 5 fucking minutes, even with cheese that's ridiculous
Wouldn't it have been even better, if you had given your reinforcements a chance to advance too the battlefield, to instantly withdraw them? Then you would not lose any unit, or am I wrong?

Not being able to retreat on defensive sieges is 100% intentional as you will entirely lose your army if the enemy wins anyways. It would be totally cheesy if you could just escape that shitty situation by just manually retreating the army. It would make the game way too easy and safe to play.
I don't know if it's a difficulty thing (I mostly play on Hard), but how do you force the enemy to attack when attacking and then taking a defensive position? I feel they will often just sit there, outside of your range.
The AI always attacks if they see that your army/defenses are weaker then theirs. You just need to push that narrative by going into ambush, so they just see the weak garrison and not your army. If you are good you can have an army that looks weak but is actually strong if properly deployed. Ideally you should not let the enemy attack but just come closer so you can deal with him on your turn. That is why using ambush stance at the end of your turn on every army is always wise. Keep your armies hidden from the AI.
Remember, the AI knows exactly where your armies are and how strong they are unless you put them in ambush stance.

There was a really tough lizardmen battle awhile ago that he said took him hours until he could finally beat it.
He didn't show all the times he lost against it, but you could hear the relief in his voice when he finally won. I forget where it is on his stream but I remember he was playing Dark Elves.

Was your army on force march?
If you're using the underway (or racial equivalent) and you lose, your army is wiped out. Same for forced march.

Well, sometimes you may use your capital as a trap and deploy scorched-earth strategy in order to defeat your enemy. Totally cunning strategy.

You click the units you want to merge (either ctrl click to pick and choose or shift click to pick the units in between two units) and check the box that opens on top of the unit you're highlighting. If you hover over that merge box, you can see the shortcut

You can but it's a random chance.
Also has to be the same race. Empire can’t capture dwarf artillery for example.
You can't have a full stack, it has to be the same race, and you have a 10% chance, per piece of artillery, i believe. But i think its multiplicative, not additive. If that's the case, then 3 pieces of artillery would be like a 12% chance. Not sure about the last part though, so take that with a grain of salt
Only unliving war machines can be captured. So lizardmen war machines, being mounted on a monster, are never captured. Most Tomb King artillery would be the same, but dont play them yet. Dwarves, Empire, Delfs, Helfs , greenskins and skaven all have arty with a living crew and unliving material. The chaos hellcanon is posessed, but i think it can be captured. Like the previous poster said: you need to be of the same faction to cap anything at all, so try to grow rebellions if you want free arty.

Dwarfs are a proud warrior race and by conceding defeat instead of fighting honorably to the last dawi you are disgracing the race. You should be ashamed of yourself for constantly min/maxing the game to intentionally destroy yours and your viewer's immersion. The reinforcement mechanic is designed to give the player a challenge not to be abused by a scummy cheeser with no respect to the units and lore provided by GW.
