Exactly. More player choice is almost always good! If you hand 10 people a sword they won’t all use it the same way. Having more moves makes it really easy to have your own style!

If Wilds Hunting Horn gets 1 thing from Rise, it has to be Safe Draw. Being able to draw the horn while sprinting and NOT accidentally play the wrong note is huge. Essentially turning your draw attack into any of the three notes you want would just make gameplay flow way better and feel good.

Blast Dash but with the mechanic of Reverse Blast Dash. Like when you fly you can have superarmor or actually block incoming attacks. We need more utilities for the shield.
The other option that its not in Rise its that actually quick reload have the valor guardpoint.

As a CB main, I definitely want the firing pin to go in Wilds. I think it makes SAED more satisfying to use because you're basically rewarded for hitting the monster more before the SAED
For Switch Axe, the only small thing I want is to be able to morph fluidly without needing to attack first just like in Rise. I really like the fluidity of Swaxe in Rise and I hope that it comes back in wilds. The fact that you can utilize both axe and sword morphs often is really cool for me. In World, when you're in axe mode, you have to attack first before morphing unlike in Rise

Firing pin is nice. I’ll never forget killing my first Lunagaron using a fire CB with firing pin every SAED came with even more explosions. Yea I do think the weapons will be nice and fluid albeit slower.

I believe the best use of the hook slinger during combat would be to incorporate it into reworks of Rise's silkbinds/GU's arts. For example, Sakura Slash in Rise has your hunter using a wirebug to pull himself forward while he rotates the longsword. In Wilds, you would shoot the hook into the monster's 'wounded' part to pull yourself towards it. You would do the same for Hunting Horn's slide beat, Greatsword's adamant charged slash, Gunlance's bullet barrage, Hammer's spinning bludgeon... You get the idea. All those "silkbinds" would be tied to the wounding mechanic, as your hook would only be able to grip to softened parts. About the Insect Glaive, imagine being able to attach your kinsect to a monster's part and then just hook sling to it mid air to get a good angle for your wound hit.

    • @Jaycan

Insect Glaive doesn't need a wirebug they already have a bug and the slinger hook. Do the math. The weapon basically has a built in wirebug already it just hasn't been used like a wirebug.

    • @Jaycan
      @Jaycan  3 месяца назад

That’s basically what I’m saying. I said it would make sense if they kept it specifically for that weapon, but I said they could use the hook slinger and/or the kinsect if they don’t want to actually bring it back for the weapon. It would make sense either way they choose to go. If you skip to 18:00 I mention using the hookslinger.

Gunlance, I’d have to go with guard reload. Being able to tank while wide shelling was amazing and opened up options for shelling types as opposed to long/normal full burst gameplay.
Bug stick- Kinsect options. The assist kinsect was game changing on combining both parts of the weapon together in such a fluid way. But if I had to choose a moveset, I’d pick the one where you could aim and dash towards the reticle while airborne to more easily collect the essences.

As a Lance main, I wouldn't want insta block as part of the main kit.
I can Maybe see it as Lance's focus mode thing,
ie. Focus on one monster then timed block then attack.
If focus takes a second than we might not be able to chain instas.
Personally I'd like the running shield charge instead of the dash attack.

For insect glaive, the Aerial Kinsect slash revolutionized the depth of insect glaive aerial attacks for me. Being able to aim exactly where you were going, and the snappy tempo of the ‘swish-bang-bang’ feels way better than the lazy helicoptering of the move it replaced. Plus, it did a grip of damage, and its speed and precision assisted in building up the aerial combo damage bonus to quickly follow up with a diving wyvern, and a lot of the time that was the most damaging combo for a non-elemental IG. To be honest, the ‘main feature’ of this move, gathering extracts, was more of a ribbon feature than anything, and I wouldn’t mind letting that aspect go if it meant replacing the standard aerial spinning slash with kinsect slash in Wilds.

    • @Jaycan
      @Jaycan  3 месяца назад

Kinsect slash has been mentioned A LOT here in this comment section. It was my runner up pick when it comes to IG. I LOVE that move too so much so that I don't even use the aerial spinning slash at all with Kinsect any more in Sunbreak.

i hope its like switch skills were automatically you have the new weapon combos/moves but you can switch them out for the rise/sunbreak moves/combos (i just want my greatsword combo thats all) plus your opinion on power sheath is so valid cause strongarm stance yes I use it but its kinda of a rage slash in a way how it just parrys one attack allowing you to charge longer/get yellow charge

some of these moves are nice but how would it work when we lose the silkbugs? Theres no power sheathe done unless we're using the clutch claw but on other weapons silkbind moves would look ridiculous unless its just strictly positioning and evasion techniques

    • @Jaycan
      @Jaycan  3 месяца назад

At 1:19 I mentioned repurposing the hook slinger to do some of the things the wire bug used to do. With power sheathe you could fire the hook slinger into the ground then use it to pull you a short distance forward while sheathing for the same effect. In the IG chapter I mentioned using the hook slinger to perhaps grapple on to the environment the same way Silkbind vault used in Sunbreak.

I'll join you with a move that would be good for some weapons I like to play if it's not the same, but your Ideas are all good
    - Great sword (started it all for me): the parry tackle, which raises attack on the next charged attack (either tcs or vailliant style charge), but the altenative gs combo with mobility is also good
    - Sword n Shield: you can put the mestu shoryugeki as a secondary option for the perfect rush; press Y, you go into perfect rush; Press B (maybe in focus mode), you get a short sprint animation then bang!! metsu shorygeki
    - Dual Blades (the old main): demon flight with spiral slash or shrouded vault in focus mode (paired with GU's vailliant mode sprint and a short i-frame window)
    - Lance (my beloved new main): I love the idea of a move after insta-block, it has to be cross slash on Y and shield bash on B. But I also love the shield charge
    - Switch Axe, I like the alternative for the zsd as a possible counter move
    - Light bowgun: it's not a counter, but "wyvern counter' is a good emergency exit move
    - Heavy bowgun: I would directly give it GU's valiant mode. Mixing crouching shot (overheat is still hear, but the ammo suffering from it differ according to the weapond) and the repositionning sprint will get me absolutely playing this.
If we're right, good, if we're wrong, dammit they got a better idea, but it will be good anyway

Silkbind Shockwave for the extra elemental sound bursts, Perform for attacking and dodging at the same time, Sonic Bloom for a big chunk of damage, Crush for changing the direction of your combos on the fly...hard choice for sure.

I agree with Power Sheath for GS. Good mobility and power increase fits GS best.
For LS I'm torn between Sakura Slash and Sacred Sheath. Both are incredibly useful and fun options.
No argument with SnS. Shorugeki is immensely satisfying. Only other option is the Windmill for me.
Haven't really played DB so I can't comment.
LNC is odd. On the one hand more defensive options is right on brand but on the other having bursts of offensive might could be a good change of pace.
GL I never play so I'll defer to you on that.
HM main myself and I have to go with Spinning Bludgeon. Spin to win baby and having a way to get into the air to chase those monsters that love flying is something I can appreciate. Other than that it's Impact Crater all the way. Having a big have mercy hit on demand is a big welcome when the monster is down or stunned. Immense satisfaction.
HH needs to keep a lot of core movement from Rise. HH felt so much better and fun to play in Rise that when I tried it in World it just felt bad to play. So I was say keep it's core movement and attacking.
SA is Switch Charger for me. Do get me wrong Soaring Wyvern is just pure gas and fun but I love having an immediate reload that comes with movement.
CB I don't know about that. It seems like it's putting an unneeded injection of skill into a weapon that already needs skill to pull off the guard points. Maybe having it as an "oh crap" move and has a cool down not unlike the GL's Wyvern Fire. Personally I want the Spinning Condense Slash. That saw on a stick is just too much fun.
IG has to have Awakened Kinscet Attack. Gathering essences is without a doubt the worst part of using that weapon. Chucking that bug out to get all three, even on a cool down is mile better.
BW I would choose Focus Shot. Quick stamina recovery after a good barrage, you can't go wrong.
I don't play any of the guns. Doesn't gel with me personally.

I used lance for most of the rise playthrough I started when I got sunbreak, and I have to say I love instablock. If longsword is able to completely avoid damage by timing actions, lance should be able to do the same since it's supposed to be the ultimate defensive weapon. timing your guards to match the rhythm of a monster's combo or multi-hit attack was just super satisfying to pull off too, imo. I've played a lot of lance in the other entries I've played as well, but I would definitely miss it if it wasn't an option going forward. another move I really liked for lance was the shield charge, it was nice to have a gap closer that doesn't leave you completely open to attacks and it even let you get a fair bit of stun power out of the weapon too.
For greatsword, I'd say either power sheathe or surge slash since it really changed up how you could play. definitely not strongarm stance, I was kind of disappointed that it became the most effective method of play for greatsword in rise. my number one wish for greatsword though is simply for the crit draw playstyle to be great again :p
I'm not even much of gunlance player, but yeah blast dash is very funny and the mobility it provides is neat. still have a hard time envisioning it in a game like world or wilds though ngl lol
for dual blades, shrouded vault. I loved adept dual blades in GU and shrouded vault was the closest thing we've gotten to recreating that. I've no idea what resource it'd be tied to, maybe just additional stamina or demon gauge, so you have to stay aggressive to be able to use it often?
this one might be controversial but a guilty pleasure of mine was switch axe's burst counter. the animation of the successful counter attack was awesome and felt really impactful! I could definitely see the 2-stage morph combo working too, or even soaring wyvern blade with how you described it as a follow-up to ZSD.
I don't think there's many others that I feel too strongly about, but I might like something like round force for sword and shield, and for oils to return in some capacity. apologies for the lengthy comment, but I do think this is an interesting topic for discussion! nice idea for a video :)

I would remove all of the LS's counters and keep the Sacred Sheathe combo. I really love LS keeping it's roots as a Greatsword in 1st Gen, while being different for both weapons.
I really don't know what to keep from the other weapons, I just want Long Sword to go back to it's pre GU self.

HH is one of my favourites in RiseBreak and that Shockwave + Double Note idea is too good, you're cooking with that one.
-Insect Glaive: I would pick the Kinsect Slash, I really like its precise aerial attack and follow it up with Kinsect Spike/Diving Wyvern feels so good
-Gunlance: My current main and I'm kinda torn between Blast Dash and Reverse Blast Dash. Zipping around chasing monster with BD is too fun but RBD is just too good and versatile, it has decent mobility, i-frames, and damage (Stun from shield & easy to combo into slam)
Bow: I really like Stake Thrust, a fast melee attack that buffs arrow shots and its just too cool looking. If it returns to WIlds, maybe make it explode after several hits before it dissapears

If we're going to make tweaks to moves, changing something to add attack up as a default all horn move would go way more. The charge blade was ruined by counter peak performance in mhr. If guard points became a method of charging the phials it would be even worse as you could just spam counter. Countering to charge phials just skips half of the gameplay loop of the weapon: charging phials in sword mode and dispensing with an SAED, or charged axe attacks. Guard points already give enough benefit for landing them.

It's considered to be a very complex weapon, and guard-pointing shouldn't get easier. Though I definitely agree with you on the fact that we need more thorough in-game explanations for them.

Ironically, the things I want for the weapons I main are modes rather than actual moves
Destroyer Oil for SnS (though I'd actually just prefer the generations oils as a whole to come back) and Feral Demon Mode (or if we go even further back, True Demon Mode from Frontier). Though based on what's been told in JP previews, it sounds like we might have something akin to Feral Demon Mode/True Demon Mode, as both of these modes had a focus on evasion, which is how people described the new mode Dual Blades was seen using in the JP preview
EDIT: Your take on implementing Counterpeak Performance sounds a bit too strong still imo. I think it should either give 2 phials, or set your sword charge to the next stage; if your swords partially charged it goes to full charge, and then you load your phials, or if it's not charged it goes to partial charge, letting you get to 5 phials sooner. If it was implemented as part of the GP system, leads into SAED and otherwise left as is it'd still be too strong, especially if it auto-loaded your phials.

For me it should be (realistically):
GS: Guard tackle, it just makes sense
    LS: Double slash
    SnS: Spinning reaper
Lance: Charged sweep, its just what lance needed
Gl: Yeah, i aint gonna play that weapon without blast dash, but i think it should be like frontier's, its a lot more realistic. Also im breaking the rule with this weapon. I shouldnt even explain it but GUARD RELOAD, it doesnt make ANY SENSE that you have a shield as big as lance's and not guard while youre reloading. The shield should be part of the moveset, just like lance. It feels so stupid and wrong that you have to stop whatever youre doing to sidestep and then guard insteand of having a guardpoint on a weapon with 0 mobility (im looking at you mhw). A parry seems to op for me and i think it would harm the weapon's identity, but guard reload fits all these needs perfectly, plus it just MAKES SENSE.
Hammer: yup, i like the stance system but they should do something with it, differentiate more the movesets
HH: I think they should lean more into the shockwaves and offensive aspect, its already a support weapon that packs a punch but if it packed an even bigger punch more people would enjoy it
CB: Give. The. Ready. Stance. Back. CB axe mode is a PAIN to move around, at least this move prevents it to be completely exposed
SA: yeah, no. Copy paste the SA from world. I DESPISE SA on sunbreak, they made the weapon feel like cardboard, not a giant dragonbone explosive axe
IG: soaring wyvern, FEELS RIGHT moving thru the air just to nail the monster's head to the ground
Bowguns: The biggest problem these 2 weapons have are their differences, well, the lack of them. I want LBG to lay more into the traps aspect, using mines, countering the monster (yup, wyvern counter) and using your mobility to drive it into explosive/status traps.
When it comes to HBG i think the move it needs the most is the sidestep, but hell no, give the allmighty tackle back. Feels like it always should have been there, nothing like shooting a big ass artillery cannon, staggering the monster with a shoulder tackle and blowing up its face. I think they should lean more into the slow but brutal aspect of the weapon
Bow: yeah, double powershot, give us something else to do other than dancing all around the place

for gunlance, we really do need more mobility, but maybe not blastdash?
like, in old mh it used to be that the trade off for picking gunlance over lance is that you get a much more powerful weapon, but much less speed
you didn't have a dash move, you only had one sidestep dodge instead of 3, that kinda thing
but then gunlance started to fall behind on the power to the point that it's not a good trade off anymore
also, the reason you don't see charged shelling is because in world and rise, burst shelling is simply too powerful, so choosing a wide gunlance, where charged shelling is ideal for dealing with tough monster parts, is just objectively the wrong decision
also, that thing about charge blade getting phials on guard counter is far far far too powerful
it's so easy to get guard counters that it would remain as powerful as sunbreak's counter move

Maybe once you start the SAED, you can just have it be another option. You can press R2 to charge shield obviously, you pull back the movement stick and press the top button to do the AED, you hit L2 to go into savage axe mode, and lastly you just let it go to do SAED. Why not make it so you can just press R2+top button to make it do an animation where you just throw a right straight with the weapon spinning, it locks in place as you cock back your fist, and the punch just unleashes a BLAST of energy.

With that running thing gs did, that was using the hook slinger like a wirebug to attach to the monster and run as it retracted. I get what you mean.
power sheath is fine, strong arm needs to die with an unmarked grave. GS is already getting a counter in focus mode and it's never been a weapon that needed a counter in the first place. Shoulder bash getting i frames is bad enough, in terms of eliminating the weapon's consequences. One of the big reasons Rise wasn't liked as much as World was that the weapons felt watered down, just to make them more like LS so that has to end if they want it to be more grounded and like World to get those fans back. Experement failure, weapon bias to such an extreme is bad.
Sacred sheath combo is fine, LS has more than enough counters as it is. Just don't let it counter for less damage, make it a big hit for LS only. It's the lesser of the many evils in Rise because it was a game that made everything else LS clones and buffed LS way too much.
Again, if they're smart, they'll want to kill as many of these counters as possible.
Lance is one of the last weapons that needs counters. The whole point is tanking so taking the hits with the shield and being immovable, as you land short pokes within opening too small for other weapons to use. Lance got shit on for the entirety of Rise. Sadly the least insulting thing lance got was the charged swing. Yes it goes against the point of shorter openings but it gives you an option for those larger openings that does more damage when you get them, like wake up hits.
Blast dash is great but it needs a rework for balancing. Just map the buttons differently so you don't lose charged shells like in Rise. Like hold circle to charge shell or hold circle + X instead to blast dash so everyone gets both of them at all times. Don't punish the players that want charged shells, by removing this mobility options entirely for only them. That's why your never saw charged shelling in Rise.
Honestly, I hated this move more than any other in the game. In Rise it felt like CB got a huge combo speed nerf only to justify this move existing, The slower moves nerfed guard points. It's like the game was saying "but why bother? Why do your combos to charge when you can just use this counter to skip it?" It and the SA counter in Sunbreak murdered the flow of these weapons. You didn't have to work to charge them anymore. On top of that, counter peek performance was the most generous counter window in base Rise, anyone could land that thing so it wasn't even reward for skill. You could just pop it and easily get full phails. Giving that to normal guard points still invalidates the play style of charging with your sword. Even if the flow was the same as World, so it felt good to guard point, that's too much. Guard pointing on demand is easy, just swap to axe mode and that's an instant guard point to charge whenever you want. It's the ones mid combo where this flow matters. Rise ruined that.
So just a second air dash? Why? I'm a little torn, i know they won't buff IG, it's been 2 generations and Rise only accidentally dug up the fallacy of bow and IG's abusing relationship. What i mean is, both weapons are mobile, safer, elemental options. One's in the air and one is at range as they both dash around between attacks. So why the hell is the damage gap so wide? Rise made the 2 more alike when they said that each consecutive areal move buffs the next, that's a lot like bow charge levels in its combo. It was insulting that they didn't realize this, areal aim even lets bow go up in the air too. Diving wyvern was a clone of an Iceborne move so it may be back. 4th gen weapons are the one Rise ruined the most, while trying not to say they were. They were unapologetic about lance. IG need areal damage, not mobility. Aurora somnocanth has a move where if a hunter is at a different elevation, on her sweeping beam's path, the beam will move up or down withh ledges. Make more attacks like that, that can move up to hit IG users, so you guys aren't afraid to give IG areal damage. Let it be less safe, if yo have to, but let IG shine in the air for once. Ground glaive should never do more damage, just like slap lance, never make it better to ignore a weapon's unique traits.
It's not just a counter but it's a tanking move that erases projectiles for you team, that's a lance move bro. LBG ain't no tank.
Crouching shot, is fine, you have to have big openings because you can't move so there's a trade off. Maybe if a lance user in the team is tanking for you it's more usable, they got the new agro mechanic so they hold attention for you while you use this. That way HBG can choose itehr the tank play stile or the sniper play style.

A lot of what Rise tried for weapons were about quality of life for weapons, bringing back old lost ideas. Not about making everything a Longsword clone and thinking that every weapon simply being able to counter makes it a Longsword clone. Then you haven't played enough of the weapons or experimented with different playstyles because Risebreak gave you so many choices, and yet people complained because they didn't like the "best option" Even though the best option in monster hunter has always been whatever works best for you as an individual. Its about choice. And don't think that the game is taking that choice away from you because you don't want to pick the less optimal choice.
I can almost guarantee this new focus mode will introduce mechanics that you won't like.
Greatsword getting a counter, or potentially more armored moves like shoulder tackle. That's not a bastardization of the weapon's identity because its still high risk, high reward because you're still taking that damage. I loved strongarm stance, but I didn't like that it was just a straight up counter. I think Greatsword should keep rage slash, that way it has a "Counter" but still plays into that high risk style that people like.
Longsword is functionally a counter based weapon now, that's how it is, and its what people love so its here to stay, so I have no issues if they want to expand on that.
Dual blades is fast its mobile, all I want for that weapon is an even bigger reward for being aggressive.
Hammer is the definitive charge weapon (Even though greatsword likes to think it is) and I think the charge system of Hammer should be built upon. I loved being able to switch between charge modes in Rise, and Sunbreak adding a way to cleanly transition between the two while maintaining charge made the flow of hammer so much more rewarding and interesting to play.
I'm happy Hunting horn is going to be getting a return to form (To a certain extent, they also said that it would be receiving a huge amount of changes) In my eyes Hunting horn is not just about positioning. Its a musical weapon, hunting horn users should get to dance with the monster. I want to see more evasive elements worked into the moveset of horn, I want them to build on the flourish mechanic, gives us more multi swinging moves that let us pile notes onto the staff really fast, let us control the pace of our playing so we can move with the monster. I like the aggressive style of Rise but I don't want it to lose the methodical rhythmic pacing that it had in the old games either.
The lances are tank weapons and tanks should be able to tank, I don't see why it being a counter or a guardpoint or just standing there and blocking makes it different. They are defensive weapons, so give us defensive options. Instant block is one of the best things to happen to Lance given that it rewarded us for being able to time our strikes and block at appropriate times in order to get the counter attack. Lance should be able to stay on top of the monster and deal consistent damage because being a shield isn't its only function, because it still is a weapon and there's no reason it should lose out on being able to dish out damage because it doesn't fit the classic idea of what a tank should be.
Gunlance in my opinion should have a stronger emphasis on offense, so give us guard reload back, put a guard point on quick reload, give us repositioning tools like blast dash or blast evade from frontiers, let gunlance be the offensive monster of the two defense oriented weapons.
Charge blade to me always felt like the original guardpoint counter based weapon. And getting a more streamlined method of charging would only help the weapon in the long run. A lot of people choose not to play it because they don't want to charge the sword to charge the phials to charge the shield to amp the sword to get the biggest attack you can get. The focus should be on charging but charging doesn't HAVE to be inconvenient.
Switch axe isn't a charge weapon, it does have a gauge you can charge but that's not at the core of the weapon, so giving us a way to skip the build up and go right into amped state to do what people play the weapon for (zero sum lmao) Is a healthy addition for the weapon. It doesn't have to be a counter but I don't think Sunbreak's SA counter was a bad thing for the weapon it looked cool as hell and made the weapon more approachable and fun.
Insect glaive SHOULD 100% get more air mobility, I don't mind Grounded glaive being where it does the most damage, it makes sense after all since its much harder to get leverage to hit hard when you are in mid air. What I want to see is more involvement with the kinsect since that is like, one half of the weapon. I want to see the kinsect get more treatment and more versatility. You should be able to have your bug attack with you, gather resources while you attack rather than being forced to do the annoying shooting the bug at specific parts. The glaive and the bug should be one cohesive unit.
Sword and Shield is a swiss army knife, as long as it can always do a bit of everything I couldn't care. I love the weapon, its pretty much perfect and every iteration makes it better at its role which is pretty much just a little bit of everything. (not an SNS main)
I can't really speak on the ranged weapons I don't play them but if I'm not mistaken a big point of Light and heavy bowgun is that they're extremely customizeable and always have been. You could play support Light bowgun or you can pile everything into being a little annoying mosquito that does decent damage. You could be a tanky gunner with heavy bowgun or a sniper or just a DPS Monster. and then Bow just kinda works as a buffer zone for people who like being right in the action but want to be quick, want to be fast but want to use a ranged weapon.
I really hope that whatever Wilds does to change the weapons satisfies you. And of course you can always go back and play most of the old games if you aren't happy with the new ones.
I wish you a good day and I hope that you can be a little bit more open minded and less spiteful in the future! It's okay to not like something but not liking it doesn't mean it was bad. Always keep that in Mind :)

@@zacharyhansen8250 Is hyperbole a new concept? Also no, Iceborne taught us that meta can just matter on a whim, like alatreon. IG was stupid in that fight because ground IG wasn't a choice anymore do to his hit zones that forced it on you. Also them making a hunt based on a system they've admitted they failed at repeatedly was a dumb move. Usually that stuff doesn't matter but weapon balancing always has to matter just in case they pull shit again. Also the culture of fools that will kick you for playing unoptimal play styles while they keep dying in meta sets.
My point was that shoulder barge was dumb but acceptable, hell you agree that Rise's shit giving you a buff while negating all damage is bad.
DB, hammer, and hh i more or less agree with you on those.
Lance should reward the sustained damage and taking advantage of those opening that other weapons can't. giving it lazy a counter just makes it less unique. The problem with lance is that they've always hated the idea of giving it any damage and in Rise they only gave it if you played in a way counterintuitive to its design. You had to keep up that stupid counter buff or your pathetic damage was even worse and said buff was weaker if you had guard skills. You were punished for building into the weapon's niche. It was an utter failure of a rework and Sunbreak's additions were just insulting.
No, Lance only ignores part of the damage formula where GL ignores all of it. If they made it too strong then that would ruin the game. Just make more armored monsters that let it shine. Also Rise fucked up because blast dash cost you charged shells so if you used the type that liked those fuck you. If they alter the controls just slightly, as i said, we can all have both.
It could be easier but skipping the charging entirely, like in Rise, was overdoing it.
AS getting one of the most generous counter windows in the game was the issue there. Also if you keep making too many and too generous of allowances for noobs, like that asshole Bloodborne streamer that rage quit after low rank khezu, than it's the slow death of the series' identity. They said that they are taking steps back to make things more like World and to ensure weapons fit their personalities more in Wilds. That's the intent but we'll see how it goes.
The bug doing more i agree with but the other half of what makes the weapon unique is being in the air. Again, you should never be punished for using what's unique about a weapon. It should never be optimal to ignore one of a weapon's core traits entirely.
Except for when they fuck up and S&S is either accidentally better at something than the weapons where that is their only niche. Also perfect rush proved that they had no clue or care as to how to handle the weapon. It was meant to replace falling bash, if you wanted elemental damage, It was a trash rhythm game that was too weak to justify engaging with. So they buffed it but were lazy so just ended up buffing motion value/raw, when element was its entire reason for it existing. S&S is the definition of an identity crisis.
I'm hopeful for Wilds, can't be worse than Rise. Don't get the wrong, Rise was fun, if you turn your brain off to ignore its flaws.

Hunting horn: Silkbind shockwave could outright be a new song, but shouldn't give anything more than that (so it doesn't count as double beats) I don't see why it can't be selfish, it would encourage the HH to be more offensive rather than corner horning anyway..
If we want to suggest an improvement to HH, silkbind shockwave for double notes isn't the best way to go regardless... that still goes to making attack up a generic song outright. MAYBE have magnificient trio as part of the base moveset which always gives attack up.

@@sinteleon if Silkbind Shockwave's effect were to be a song instead, it'd need to be on every HH for sure. Wayyy too strong of a buff for only a few to get. Same with Attack Up tbh; we've already seen how much that throws off the balance between Horn choices. I could really see them just putting buffs like this on Self Improvement to avoid having every song list share the same 2-3 songs, but that'd probably make Self Improvement kinda bloated with the 2 effects it already gives. To me, Silkbind Shockwave seems like something that'd work a little better on a meter mechanic tbh.
And Affinity Up's usefulness directly depends on how easy affinity is to stack in a game's armor set meta. It was pretty good in Rise for example, since Crit Eye wasn't being stacked super high that often. A lot of builds just ran with Weakness Exploit and whatever affinity was on your weapon normally, so the song's extra 20% bumped those up nicely. If it's a game more like World/Iceborne though, with sets like Drachen and Fatalis? Then yeah, not nearly as valuable

@@KPlaysHere I'd note that silkbind shockwave would need to be rebalanced if it was a song, to be comparable to sonic burst (and/or sonic burst be buffed to compare with silkbind shockwave), but still, do note that the bonus damage from silkbind shockwave is fixed; the value of it gets weaker with stronger affinity hunting horns (and likely gets no benefit from the wounding mechanic). And more importantly, it is a selfish song, meaning there's less benefit in a party outright; party buffs could easily be ranked higher even if a horn doesn't have SS.

demon flight a tighter counter that rewards you for landing it by doing a spiral slash
before I used the whole moveset of dual blades in base rise, iceborne and world
then spiral slash specially in the endgame ruined DBs since it costs 1 wirebug, dealt more dmg than demon dance, was faster than demon dance, could use it mid air
THE WHOLE MOVESET FELT SO BAD, I legit took it out of my moveset and replaced it with piercing bind but everything felt so bad
maybe because rise's combat felt less impactful and spiral slash was the most impactful move dual blades had + the insane numbers it had dual blades became easily the most brain dead weapon monster hunter has ever had
honestly piercing bind only problem in rise was it stopping the flow so if they can make it seamlessly turn into a combo it would be perfect for wilds

You’re not far off! I’m the parent. I typically get to record when the girl and the kids are sleeping so I don’t want to wake them up recording a video haha.

Hey Jay.... I also want Sacred Sheathe Combo back... I love that back hop, and unload, play-style...
Also, I want to see a return of Frostcraft, so I can really reign pain on anything that moves...

Sacred Sheathe plus Frostcraft goes DUMMY maybe if they skip Velkhana but bring back Oroshi Kirin we can still have Frostcraft on the Oroshi set.

@@Jaycan We really should have got Oroshi Kirin in Iceborne in my opinion... it made the most sense for his return to be there for obvious reasons... but I will certainly take him in Wilds, or Wilds' expansion...
