Thanks for addressing the body and brain connection. I got my first pair of glasses in elementary school when I was bullied and had no friends. Also the eye doctor told me that the reason why I’m nearsighted is that my eyeball is too long and that it’s supposed to be round. I guess he was right but I feel like that reinforced my belief that my eyes are messed up and that I have a poor vision and there’s nothing I can do about it. Now years later I understand that the shape of the eyeball is controlled by the muscles around it so I’ve been visualizing my eyeballs being perfectly round which relaxes all the muscles around them and I get instant clear vision when I do this. Also believing that I can heal. I feel like neuroplasticity and visualization exercises are super important and helpful, would be cool if you could talk more about it.

Wow, that's awesome! I love how you're exploring the power of your mind over your eyes, and how when you simply imagine your eyes becoming the correct shape, the muscles relax and allow for clearer focus! I agree with you about the importance of visualization... have you seen my video about how to visualize? ruclips.net/video/Z--1JL75GFc/видео.html

Thank you Nathan for this amazing video! One of the best one on the channel so far. It was really helpful. I was following your recommendations during the video and I got clear flashes almost 40% of the time. 10 minutes in I found myself yawning a lot, I was also shifting from side to side while seated and looking through the window.
Recently I discovered somewhat upgraded version of palming and imagining. Instead of just thinking of a still picture I imagine myself sitting in a small cafe by the sea. I can smell salty waves down the beach, freshly backed bread, flowers in a small vase on the table. I see the wind moving the petals, the table cover, leaves on the trees. In the distance a see a little boy riding the bike, a women arranging flowers on a flower stand, and a bit farther there are two boys kicking a ball. I hear the wind and other people talking, the sea. So it's all like a little film in my head with me as a part of it. I find it very relaxing and almost meditation like.
I also have a question for you. Is there a thing like semi-clear flashes? Sometimes I notices I get flashes of clearer vision, and sometimes my flashes are like there is a huge magnifying glass in front of me making it all as if I were wearing glasses - everything becomes crystal clear for a moment.

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  Год назад +8

Hello! Thanks for sharing your experiences and questions. Great realization about visualizing moving images rather than still images, that is precisely what Dr. Bates suggested! He spoke about the Swing so much, and he wasn't just talking about the Long Swing, he was talking about imagining moving objects in your mind with your eyes closed like when you've been palming.
Yes, there are semi-clear flashes and bigger clear flashes, so be open to receiving all types of clarity as you keep going. Check out my video about Clear Flashes if you haven't seen it yet: ruclips.net/video/spiIo4pUAQw/видео.html
You're obviously on the right track since you're seeing improvements, so keep it up and keep me in the loop with your process!

Yes, generally when I got some insights, in another words when I "receive" images in my mind, they tend to be this way; different layers moving each one with different rythm. For example, clouds moving in the background while someone is passing by the center of the imagination. You can still imagine listen to a song in the background, while you are notice things around the scenario. In general when I get these kind of imagination I get in a good mood, maybe dopamine? Maybe the brain getting a new pathway? Neuroplasticity? Who knows?
There is a book about imagination, I forgot the name, it has a door in the cover. If I remember was a PhD wrote that book.

I have been reading about Greek, Egyptian, Chinese Maxims and one of them in the Temple of Delphus said:
    "Certainty brings insanity".
I think myopia is the ultimate expression of "certainty" or the result of pseudo-insanity or mild insanity.
In all the texts created by William Bates he emphasizes not imprisoning, not forcing, not trying, not taking for granted, not hijacking the eyes, not forcing mental reality over the reality of things.
William Bates, from what I read in his magazines, was a profound admirer of Greek philosophy, of calisthenics exercises where the Greeks used as little effort as possible just by manipulating the gravitational axis of the body.
Later, I learned that the scientific style of thinking (framework) taught in schools and also in TV news does not encompass the unconscious, it basically eliminates the body from the equation.
I read a lot, I filtered a lot of theory.
Bates used to recommend reading the Bible which part of it was also written by ancient Greeks.
The structure of many texts in the Bible, as well as the Qu'ran or the Torah are in Nested Loops, or Ring or Mirror Composition. In addition to seeing powerful built-in commands, many in positive and direct affirmations.
From what I read, I note that the natural state of the human mind is to just be, never to get too attached to things. And even the things that are important have no greater right to be more important than life.
The ancients called it "Enchantment", "Evil Spirit" or "Spell", later they gave a new term "being under the effect of a strong suggestion". Today common sense calls it "chronic stress".
Our biggest challenge is to overcome the mold in which we were placed since childhood, and we need to restructure our way of thinking and creating thoughts.

This exercise was a great way to sit outside and get some sun time while deepening my eyes healing journey. This video did bring me back in time to when I first got my glasses as a child, loved the insights. I had lots of clear flashes during this practice, and love learning that term - when I was a kid, one time, I could see for hours just for one day..! I never understood that and felt like I was trippin'. Also during this video I learned a lot more and the depth perception stuff is noticeably true, I could feel the surroundings of the many trees around me better. Great insights and fostering understanding of the roots of eyesight issues and the nuances of the underacknowledged roles and purposes of our eyes.

    From Bates white wall technique:
I "developed" a simple technique. Put the tip of your nose against the wall. Place your hands laterally 15~20 cm from your eyes.
Now stare at the wall, at the center of it. There is nothing to see there, no worry about straining or staring.
Start moving your body slowly like rocking drills, generally is the pelvis that make the rock drills but you can feel your torso doing it too.. side to side constantly.
Breathe and blink as much as you like.
Try to focus on the center of the wall and if possible you need to notice (not directly see) your hands at your side.
If you do it correctly, it's expected that your shadow against the wall and also the wall will have a weird effect of moving, if you help this illusion by moving slightly your nose/head and your hands it will gets stronger. I felt a feeling of nostalgia, like I was meeting a time when I was living a happy life when I notice this illusion effect.
If you stop, close your eyes and look around you will see that the wall will get ULTRA sharpen and that rest of the enviroment starts to get sharpen as well. But just for a few seconds.
You can increase the intensity of your body movement, but do it at your own pace.
This unlocks peripheral motion, you'll be able to see things actually move around you as you walk or as you keeping the rocking stand still.
    I hope it helps you.

@@jazmineszlari414 I'm testing other approaches, for example tinted glasses, red light bulb to increase blood circulation.
I tested bluish tinted glasses for minutes, after removing them I felt the reality super yellowish (uuh), which generated a feeling of tiredness in me as if I were in the desert.
When I tested yellowish glasses, after removing them I felt the world bluer, lighter, calmer, more relaxing and I could see a little better.
I wonder if the technology; TV/video games in the 90s/2000s, computers, notebooks, cell phones, I wonder if these devices emit lights that train our brain to filter out certain light spectrums.
I also did tests with fluorescent and LED lights, I made a recording in super slow motion and the light blinked incessantly, as if it had flicker stressing the eyes, as if these lights imitated the blinking of the eyes artificially.
When I used old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs, the super slow motion didn't register any flicker, although those old-fashioned lights don't illuminate much, so many and many more of them are needed to illuminate the environment for us to be able to see some detail.
If you take a piece of yellow cellophane and put it in front of any sunglasses and wear it for 2 minutes, when you take them off you can see a little better with the naked eye.
Another observation, it feels like calf/calves on legs have a looot of to do with blood circulation and upper body discomfort, exercise or massage calves and it will help you more than you believe.

Lately my vision took a nose dive for the worse, my eyes always tired and sore and nothing was helping. By the end of this video my eyes had relaxed quite a bit. I had a bunch of clear flashes, and I realized what I'd been doing that had stressed my eyes out again. Lately I've become kind of obsessed with centralization, and actually being able to see small detail at a farther distance where i couldn't before, entirely forgetting about the periphery. For some reason just being reminded to be aware of the periphery made my central vision relax again, and looking for shape and color, and most important closing my eyes.

10:12 Nathan, about the breath holding, I read this book “The Oxygen Advantage” and he talks about the role co2 plays in our utilization of oxygen. Actually hyperventilating deprives our brain of oxygen. He talks about getting the breath down to 6 breaths a minute, he also talks about how to properly breath hold which has cascade effects for relaxation. I think you NEED to look into the benefits of his work PLEASE because when people would tell me to take a deep breath I was taking a hard breath, and a faster breath and that over breathing I believe contributed to my myopia! With the slow deep light breathing he teaches people to do I am noticing more clear flashes! That's your choice and responsibility. For a thing that brain 🧠 is used to do, it spends 0 calories, for some new thing it spends comparably a lot, so you don't do it because this power economy mechanism works in your brain. You need to overcome it just till a new activity becomes a habit for the brain, and you will do it without any effort then

When I was a child of about 8 years old I got the measles. I remember that light hurt my eyes and my mother pulled the blinds down and kept the room very dark. I only remember being in bed for a long time. When I eventually went back to school I could no longer see the blackboard. Have you ever heard of this as a cause of myopia and astigmatism? Thanks for this intriguing information. I am so interested.

Thank you Nathan for this video. I was unaware how much strain I’m putting my eyes into. Will definitely follow your steps.
A request can you please make a video about double vision. I’m myopic with -3.5 both eyes with little astigmatism. When I started this vision improvement journey mid 2022 I stopped wearing full prescription glasses, only using -2.25 for daily working on screens apart from that I don’t wear glasses. Over the course of time staring at objects/ buildings, now I see multiple images with one or 2 clear overlapping blur images. I fear I messed up my eyes 😱What do you think about my condition?

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  Год назад

That’s probably just the astigmatism, which can appear as multiple images. Keep working on reducing both myopia and astigmatism and that effect can subside.

Try to massage your tempora, muscles around your ears, your nostrils, neck.
Sometimes you have a chronic facial muscle strain.
Some people say astigmatism comes with lenses, wrong PD, because one eye cant fit the lens axis the whole time and the body change it's natural position to see through thr lenses.
Other people say about playing musical instrument can cause astigmatism by a long period of time seeing in a non natural position.
And others say about wisdom teeth or other facial muscle changing.
Massage could help in a long run, regular massage. Or doing facial "exercises" with mouth, ears, forehead, eyebrows.

Hey Nathan, I was noting a weird pattern: happiness and eyesight.
    Anger and eyesight.
    Sadness and eyesight.
    Feeling lost and eyesight.
We know the feeling powerful is different than feeling hopeless.
But we feel in our bodies.
There are groups of muscles working when we are happy and when we are not happy.
For example, a person with anger will switch group of muscles in order to narrow it's vision.
Some people developed a chronic condition around tempora and ear muscles, caused by (wisdom) teeth, jaw, too much cold exposure, anger, wearing masks due to pandemic moment.
Some people have weaker muscles or tighten muscles around those areas.
    Why am I saying this?
Because my left eye was very weak due to weaken muscles around my left ear.
I don't know if it is something related to wisdom teeth, bad dentist practice and lots of anesthesia or just "genetics".. I know when these muscles are inbalanced the ear gets in different shape, I remember that I could hear even more but at the same time I was feeling very exhausted because of the external sounds, too loud, making me going crazy at the time.
And my vision was very narrow, it felt like one eye was trying to hide inside the other eye. I remember my face always pointing to one specific side without I am wanting it.
Now after learning to wiggle/moving my ears and making them more in the "correct" position most of the time, I even feel my upper body really relaxed, shoulders calm, arms relaxed and even my legs I feel then super soft, it's easier to walk now, my fingers seem smaller (maybe the skin tissue?) my posture? I feel like a billionaire.
It's the same group of muscles when we smile, when we are happier. It pulls us back, my neck broader than before.
I can see more field of view, I am receiving more light in my left eye, I am feeling more alive.
I really now believe that eyesight can improve, that vision problems use to be a bypdroduct from other condition, never the root itself.

Hey, yes I imagine some of the physical and mental relaxation practices could potentially help. Similar to eye floaters, those little moving lights have a mental component, meaning that the more you pay attention to them, the more you see them. Whereas if you "ignore" them or focus more on what you're actually looking at, you may not perceive them as much.

Is it possible to have a lot of clear flashes on sunny days and sometimes even at a night and at the same time your vision is going to get worse?

    • @NathanOxenfeld
      @NathanOxenfeld  Год назад +2

Not sure if I completely understand your question, but the light level and time of day can certainly influence the quality of your eyesight. Most of my vision students report more clear flashes when outside on bright sunny days... but as they keep practicing, they start to notice more improvements indoors in dim light, or even at night.

@@NathanOxenfeld thanks for your reply. I have been practicing Bates method for about half year and I noticed, that I have more and more clear flashes (as you wrote especially in sunny days and in the afternoon), better eyesight when looking far away (than before practicing),I feel more relaxed, I see more in "3D" (no everything the same clarity in different distances), I see that world is moving around me when I'm walking and moving(I'm not sure how to write this but I'm sure than you know what i mean :)), but at the same time I noticed that at the shortest distance where I see world clearly is going to be shorten everytime. For example before practicing Bates Method a could see my computer screen clear, but now I have to move 5-10 cm closer to the screen, regardless of this fact I have more clear flashes, I feel better without glasses, I see better when I'm looking far away. I don't know if I'm doing wrong or is it normal that my "clear world" is starting to be closer and closer to me. If it's still not clear what I mean please answer, I will try to explain it in some other way :)

I think it's smarter to wean off glasses than to stop wearing them altogether. So keep wearing them when you need them for distant activities, and maybe consider trying some training glasses somewhere in the -6s. That, plus taking breaks from the glasses and using your eyes where they can already see without glasses (up close) can begin to adapt your visual system in a new direction.
