When I started my law enforcement career I was desperate for a back up gun. At that time the only gun I could afford was a Jennings R22. It was my back up for about a year. It always went bang when I pulled the trigger and was very accurate. After 34 years I still have it. And it still works. Love the pawn shop finds videos, keep them coming!

I had 2 of these, both were older, I actually purchased the 2 from a local gun shop, they were about $25 a piece, both had feed issues, the way the feed ramp and barrel are mounted together there was a rough lip between them, I ground and polished the feed ramp connection and made them nice and smooth, fed like a dream on both afterwards, shot very well and dependable. I’ve since parted with them both, wish I would have kept one for my collection..
This. Old or never broken in the feed ramps are unreliable trash you have to manually check. There's probably a reason Lorcin got sued out of existence.

Thank you for the nice compliment, Chris. I purchase almost every gun in my videos (I borrow the ones that I haven't bought) and there is absolutely no reason not to give an honest opinion. Some reviewers have sponsors and I suppose some of them are obligated to give good reviews. I'm not. Thanks again and have a great new year.
I bought a box of the Browning ammo. Before I left the store I decided to check the ammo. Every round was loosely crimped , and could be pulled forward . I showed this to the salesman and told him it was u safe. Despite the no returns on ammo he gave me a refund and pulled them off the shelf. Treat yourself to a quality small 22 pistol. Walther TPH. I have two of the Interarms stainless versions. Accurate and reliable
OK, I bought one at a pawn shop. Nice shape, good price. I liked it. I could never get it to shoot two bullets in a row. Kept jamming, no matter what kind of ammo I used. I found that it was missing the extractor, so I took it back to the pawn shop. They agreed to get it fixed. After about 2 months at the gunsmith's. I called and they said they were looking for parts. Well, I found the parts in about 20 minutes on the internet, and bought them. I gave them to the gunsmith and he completed the repair. Got it back, and it surprisingly would NOT cycle the ammo past the second shot. The shop gave me credit for what I paid for it, and I bought a Glock 42. Never fails.
@@charleywalker2982 Honestly, I had quit going to pawn shops in my area in the late 90s \2000s. Everything used they had was always marked about $20 under full blown retail and they were never willing to haggle either.
Most pawn shops in my area are overpriced, especially on firearms, but there are a few that have very reasonable prices and they tend to sell a lot of guns. I don't find a great deal everyday but occasionally I come home with a "new" used firearm to review.
My first pistol is a Davis p380. I used it to shoot the qualifications course for my cpl. The instructor mentioned I could do better with a better pistol. I replied about all the clearing practice of all the different jamming I was experiencing. 👍
I had one just like it. Great little gun for the price. It lived in a cheap holster clipped to the under side of the drivers seat in my Dodge D-50 pickup for years. It was all I could afford for a concealable gun back before the "concealed carry" days, but it always worked as long as I kept it clean and lubed. I regret selling it now that you mention it.🤔
I had a J22. It was garbage. Never could get a full mag through it. And every time i shot it i got keyholes. I sold it and bought a PA63 in 9x18. I still have it. Excellent little pistol.
That was a funny entrance. :-) You did not waste your money, you helped your viewers save their money. Thank you for making this content and sharing with us. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Happy New Year!!
I enjoy the pawn shop pick ups. I haven't purchased a firearm from a pawn shop, but watching these videos have definitely given me the possibility to go and check them out.
Pawn shops are run by smart and knowledgeable people, and they rarely loan money on bad guns that they might be stuck with. They tend to have surprisingly good stock and may have room to lower prices if you are polite, and do not automatically assume that they are cheaters. Really good deals are available: almost everyone who pawns a gun really does intend to get it back because they LIKE IT, but have bad luck.........................elsullo
I can’t say I have a ton of pawn shop experience but I have bought a few. Mostly it depends on what they paid for it to determine how much they can wheel and deal. Most of the ones I have dealt with are not gunsmiths so at best they might wipe them off before they go in the case and at worst they just go in the case warts and all so be aware.
I have heard from many of my viewers that they have been unsubscribed from my channel. RUclips isn't exactly friendly to gun channels and I don't know if there is anything I can do about. Welcome back and thanks for the heads-up.
I had a Sterling 22 auto around 40 years ago. I liked the look of it but it would fire twice with one trigger pull. I traded it in on a Ruger Mk2 that I still use today. Small pocket handguns are nice to have so I have a North American arms mini revolver for that. It's nice to see a father and son doing things together. Great video.
I’ve known 2 people who bought these. The first was a friend in early 90’s. At three yards it would group about 18 inches. Another friend bought it for his wife in 2019 as a purse gun. The factory mags wouldn’t work in the gun. The springs would stick in the bottom of the mags and the rounds would float freely in the mag tubes. I tell anyone that asks for my advice that the cheapest gun that they should buy is a Ruger or a Canik. I’ve been testing a Taurus G3C for a year and it’s been 100% for me so I can recommend it to friends. My next purchase is a PSA dagger. If it’s reliable after a 1000 rounds, it would be my first recommendation because mags and parts are so cheap.
I had and carried a jennings for many years. I put hundreds of rounds through it with very few problems. While cleaning it a few months ago it totally fell apart to the point I couldn't get it back together again. It was a great weapon!!!
I had one that would jam at every shot. I didn’t know anything about magazine lips and feed ramps back then. I also didn’t know to switch ammo back then either. I wish I had it back so I could tinker with it!!
I purchased one earlier this year. Just because it looked cool. Chrome or Nickel plated. After research I was not sure I wanted to shoot. Took it to the Range. One of the guys ran a mag through it with no problems. So I ran a mag. Took it home, cleaned it and put it back in the box. Sold with original box and instructions.
I have a one from the mid 80's that belonged to a cousin,he never had any issues. For a short time I owned a Bryco version, would only really work with higher grain 22 rounds.
Always fun to see guns out of california. Also love 22 handguns in general, fun times, always enjoy your videos from Beautiful southern Nevada! Doesn't matter to me if its a pawn shop find under $100 or over $1000 always a good time on this channel!
Good morning jackgreenstalk. I also love .22 handguns and believe it or not the .22 LR is my favorite cartridge. We are glad to hear that you enjoy our videos and we thank you for watching them. Stay safe my friend and have a great 2024.
My 1st gun was a Bryco/Jennings 9mm. It was used and cheap and it was high capacity during the assault weapons ban. I had it less than 10 years, and it worked....til it didn't. The frame on it broke and I gave up on it. It did it's job. And like any other addiction, it was the first of many.
A thorough polish of the feed ramp is usually what these babies need to remedy the feeding issues. Bought a 3 pack of last round hold open followers for my hp22a. They work really well. He simply squares off the back, instead of it being rounded off.
Much appreciated, Dan. We love making these videos and we are glad to hear that you enjoy them. Just know that comments like yours really make our day. Thank you.
I recently bought a box of Winchester 22lr ammo and fired it in my Remington 597. I have never had a problem with other ammo in the rifle but it certainly did not like Winchester ammo at all. Shot 20 rounds with three failures.
Jennings, Jimenez, Phoenix Arms, Raven, Lorcin, Davis, Sundance, Bryco, are just some of the different names these guns were sold under. It all started as Raven Firearms in 1970. I have an original 1970 Raven .25acp, made out of chrome plated pot metal with ivory colored plastic grips. I've never tried to fire it. I've been told the pot metal slides are prone to cracking.
I enjoy the fact that you review various cost guns - no need to rationalize that. As far as the Jennings - never even heard of it before watching - apart from the novelty of it - it doesn't appeal to me - but at least now I know the thing exists. Thanks as always and Happy New Year.
Sorry did some shooting today. Years ago I bought a raven arms 25 off a guy for like $20. Had a broken firing pin. I just fixed it recently with a new stainless firing pin. The gun is laughably simple but what can I say it functions well. I cleaned her up and put back in dad’s safe with a box of shells. I am happy to own it.
Good to have a longer video back! The “shorts” are okish, but these are always fun to watch, even a bit educational. I have an affinity for these .22 Saturday night specials, too. The ones made in Southern California tend to be less dependable, but I still like them. I think the Phoenix Arms .22 (and .25ACP) may be the last of that breed still made here. They are actually pretty decent handguns. Happy New Year 🎉 to you, your very talented son, and your entire family! I look forward to more adventures.
Great video. Looks fun to shoot. Polish that feed ramp and top of the hood where the shell hits before entering the barrel, might possibly get another gun running right.
I use "Crocus Cloth" which is an astoundingly fine emery paper. Just tear a small strip and cover the rubber head of a pencil of various sizes and push in and out like the cartridge moves. It POLISHES the metal and does not grind much off at all. It really works in thirty seconds or so of work!.............................elsullo
had one of these in 25acp, it couldn't get through a full magazine without jamming, no mater what I did. Sold it for $75, and I'm happy someone took it.
I'm glad to see someone checking out stuff other than new, I own a lot of guns but one of my favorites is a 75-dollar 22 revolver I bought off one of my friends he still pesters me to sell it back to him all the time.
I got my Jennings 380 and two mags (Bryco) on Bud's for 80 bucks. Great condition for an older girl, but keep her clean and lubed and she's a good little pistol.
Love The Mix-up and Son! Happy New Year brother. I bought me a Jennings 22 caliber pistol, polished chrome back in 1986, still have her! Thumbs up video ~John
Great video, thanks, Mixup! The only "tiny" 22LR pistol I have (and enjoy!) is a Llama XV , actually a 1911 clone in miniature. After replacing a soft firing pin with one I fabricated myself, the little pistol has been a delight to shoot, since I bought her back in 1977. Field strips just like a 1911 and has all the familiar features. Wishing you a Happy New Year!!
My very first 1911 .45 pistol was a full size Llama pistol and I believe I paid about $125 brand new for it. That was way back in 1985-86. Wish I still had it. Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year!
Yep, and especially luv the pawn guns that are already 'broke-in', where basically the previous owners have already made up for the cheap construction and 'rough edges', by 'polishing' the feed ramp, slide, etc.... simply thru heavy _use._
Please keep sharing your Pawn Shop Finds, they motivate me to keep trying the overpriced pawn shops in my area. If I counted correctly Ed tied you hitting the steel plate overall, clearly he knows when a tie is actually a win 😮. Y'all need to get that sassy gal out to shoot with you 😊.
Ed hates losing to me because he knows he will be walking home if he does, and it's a long walk 😁 Unfortunately that sassy gal (Jessie) works 7 days a week and it's hard for her to find time to join us. Hopefully we will get her in a few future videos.
I've had a J-22 since the early 90's and we always used to play darts with it at 10'. BANG, BANG, BANG Score, paste up with new holes and leave the gun on the table for the next player.... It's so fun to plink with
I have never had a bad gun, but I have had a few with magazine problems. Usually as long as your spring, fire pin, and extractor are present and functioning somewhat properly, the gun will run. I always suspect the mag first when I have any issues. Esp with 22 ell ar.
I have one of those Jennings j22 !!! I bought it back in 1989 for the first wife to plink with she hated it lol. I've had a hard time shooting the thing because my big hands ,so I gave it to my Dad witch he also had big hands and had a hard time shooting it. After his passing i got his gun collection and low an behold it was in with them so it came back. He lost one of the mags that came with it so I had to buy one from eBay to replace it. My 10 year old grandson loves shooting it.
I had a Jennings back in the early 00s. I found it in the pocket of a seat cover in a jeep wagoner that i was pulling parts from in a scrap yard. I probably fired around 300 rounds through it. Dont remember it jamming or having any problems. It hit several inches to the right but once ya got used to it it was fine. Traded it off for a bowie knife. Certainly not a terrible little pistol.
The man, the myth, the legend (and son) once again separating the wheat from the chaff. Looks like the Jennings works with CCI ammo. Good to know if you're going to keep it. Good shooting, as usual. Cheers.
It has been a while since I have watched your video's, but I remember how much I enjoyed watching them!! I am glad to have you back !!! When I was younger (A long time ago) I had a Titan 25 cal, cheep gun, and what a piece of JUNK !! These days I have 2 ruger sp 101 357 3 inch, S&W k frame (newer gun with key lock 4,25 Canada legal ) all stainless, and Ruger 22 mark 2. all very nice guns. Also a north american 5 shot 22mag it always fires but I can't hit shit with it. IT's a in your face gun,and very loud.
Using a 3D printer I was able to manufacture a frame for one of these, and then acquire a parts kit for less than 50 bucks. After a bit of hand-fitting with the parts, I can get her to run through most magazines without a jam. I love this little thing

Mixup keep reviewing these pawn shop finds. It makes me want to start going to them again but our local ones didn’t have anything like you find.
Or if they do they think it's gold.
@@joshuagibson2520 your right there.
Another great video sir! That's why I have always loved your videos, informative with a bit of humor to boot. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much and my son and I hope you have a great 2024.
I like it, my dad had one as his only gun. So it kinda has a special place in my heart
I always liked the looks of them
nice son entrance....u guys hilarious...blessings to both
Thank you Armando and Happy New Year!
thanx have great one both@@mixup98
I think i am going to start checking out pawn shops too….great find sir.
You should and thank you for watching our video.
I enjoy the pawn shop pick ups.
I haven't purchased a firearm from a pawn shop, but watching these videos have definitely given me the possibility to go and check them out.
I found a Sig P229 at a pawn shop. They knocked it off cheap to me.
That was hilarious with the music and everything when Ed was walking in.
Another great review. I had that Jennings in .25 acp. The Browning ammo was too rich for its blood.
Here i am like: "Hey, Mixup98 finally uploaded!" Only to realize RUclips somehow unsubscribed me from your channel.
I have heard from many of my viewers that they have been unsubscribed from my channel. RUclips isn't exactly friendly to gun channels and I don't know if there is anything I can do about. Welcome back and thanks for the heads-up.
My brother had the silver colored model of this same gun. It was a decent little shooter that we had alot of fun plinking with. 🤠👍
The skit with your son had me laughing lol that was funny for sure 😂
Awesome....thank you! 😁😁
Very cool little pistols.
I had and carried a jennings for many years. I put hundreds of rounds through it with very few problems. While cleaning it a few months ago it totally fell apart to the point I couldn't get it back together again. It was a great weapon!!!
Check with RUclips on how to put your model gun back together.
That’s kind of the norm with a lot of this cheaper 22’s. Heavier grain the better
Pistol? 79$ ... what a steal!! My best is a marlin 795, for 125$ & was a good purchase as it shoots 3/4" @ 50 yds with a cheap red dot!!
Bought a Phoenix 22 and did a little work to it to smooth it out. Running Slip 2000 oil, it's ran 100% since
I hope to buy a new Phoenix .22 pistol and do a review on it. Should be lots of fun. Thanks for advice on the Slip 2000.
A thorough polish of the feed ramp is usually what these babies need to remedy the feeding issues. Bought a 3 pack of last round hold open followers for my hp22a. They work really well. He simply squares off the back, instead of it being rounded off.
Love your finds, that Saturday night fever opening was funny, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Ira 👍😁😁
What a fun video! Best gun channel, really Love the pawn shop finds.
Much appreciated, Dan. We love making these videos and we are glad to hear that you enjoy them. Just know that comments like yours really make our day. Thank you.
Great review.. pretty neat pistol thanks
I'd definitely say it's possible. I had one of their 380 acp's and if it was kept clean and well lubed it ran pretty good for a 100$ ghetto gun lol
Had many they don't crack under normal wear
Ive got 200 rds thru mine, no issues yet
I love these little things. I have a small collection of them.
Nice intro for the son 😎
I always enjoy your videos !! It's great you and your son have so much fun together !!
Thank you so much Larry.....much appreciated!
Love the pawn shop finds. I have a little Raven .25 along with my Ruger LCP.22 👍 Great that you and your son do this together
You and your son do great videos of all guns. From expensive to the pawn shop finds
My son and I really enjoy making these videos and we thank you for always watching them.
I love finding great deals at my pawn shop. I pretty much stopped buying new stuff. Thanks for making these great videos mixup!
You are so welcome and we thank you for watching our videos.
I love arcane little pistols even if some of them are unreliable.
They are just fun.
I tend to agree 100%.
Do people really ask why you pick these things up?
For $79 I'd pick that up too.
Awesome video as always guys, keep shooting (from across the pond 🇬🇧)
That Saturday Night "trip" intro for your son was a hoot 😃. Love the pawn shop finds.
Thank you Sarge 😜😜
Loved my J-22, some knot head stole it. was never able to replace it.
Love the videos!! Hope you guys had a good Christmas!
Inexpensive pawn store guns - like a box of chocolates!
Yep, and especially luv the pawn guns that are already 'broke-in', where basically the previous owners have already made up for the cheap construction and 'rough edges', by 'polishing' the feed ramp, slide, etc.... simply thru heavy _use._
Precisely!
That was funny! You guys are great.
@@mixup98Would you believe Jess' name wouldn't come to me when I posted, but popped into my head about four hours later? I'm getting old.
@@Salieri47 Welcome to the "I'm getting old" club. 👍😁
That was funny(Travolta would approve) and no matter what a gun costs if it works is all that really matters.
👍😎 😁👍
Cheers.
I don't know much about wheat but I love your compliment. Cheers to you and Happy New Year!
Haha your sons intro had me rolling 😂
👍😁 😁👍
Using a 3D printer I was able to manufacture a frame for one of these, and then acquire a parts kit for less than 50 bucks. After a bit of hand-fitting with the parts, I can get her to run through most magazines without a jam. I love this little thing
Thanks for another year of educational & entertaining content. Happy New Year! (ps: I had a J-22. Pity the person who stole it.)
Thank you Ronald and my son and I wish you and yours a Happy New Year!
Bought a Jennings J22 forty years ago and it lived up to the jamamatic reputation. Sold it several years later. Love the pawn shop find videos just the same.
See you next fall!
And we will see you next year! 👍😁 👍😁
