      I'm not convinced of that yet. From people who have the headset and have tried both, I hear the band is the most comfortable but not the best for weight distribution.
      I'm planning on primarily using my Vision Pro to watch movies. I'll be reclined in a chair with my head supported. I expect the solo band to be the most comfortable and practicable for that use case.

    Great insights Dave. Making the product category socially acceptable and desirable is most definitely the Apple way. The other key is to leverage their infrastructure and ecosystem. It’s amazing how much past tech has made its way into the Vision Pro, from the M2 processor, the Digital Crown, spatial audio, iPad apps and iOS, MagSafe and much more. Users of the Vision Pro can use their Mac and its functionality alongside Vision OS and many of their iPad apps. It’s pretty clever.

    This is an insanely good take. I still remember being in highschool and seeing kids with airpods and cringing a bit, knowing they spent $160 (which at the time was really expensive for a pair of just earbuds) to have qtips coming out of their ears. Now, I even have the airpod pros and it’s completely normal. I honestly like the idea of VR becoming normalized for work, cause imagine having 3 displays at all time anywhere. It’s a good niche field to be in, but rn it looks weird if you see someone with a headset in public, and hopefully that changes soon.

    Your logic makes perfect sense, I’d say you nailed it on the head. I never really thought about that aspect of it, I sort of just brushed it off as an overly ambitious first gen product that they just wanted to sell and then develop and iterate over time. The social aspect completely flew over my head and I’m sure it will over many people’s heads. Apple are marketing geniuses and really are the only company who could even do what they’re doing as a company with this product.

      This method by Apple really shows how much psychology goes into a release of a product and the decisions made in its design even and how to prioritize certain aspects of the product to penetrate people's beliefs so they can slowly accept something that upon first glance looks ridiculous especially if you were to wear it out and carry a full on conversation in public. I don't care how socially acceptable Vision Pro becomes, you'd never in a million years catch me in public wearing one and go on about my day, walk into a coffee shop for instance and place my order as if I don't have a honking contraption on my face. This is where Google Glass was perfect cause I get some of the benefits of a VR/AR headset without it looking like a typical headset.

    The one thing I haven't heard more folks talk about is what Marques briefly touched on in one of his videos. The exclusivity of this product means that very few developers outside of Apple will be interested in creating apps for the Vision Pro. Unless Apple invests in the long-term success of this hardware as a future platform, I just don't see how it will gain the same wide adoption that the other devices [Dave used as examples] have.

      There is one thing going for developers, is that even though iPhone has for the majority of its lifecycle been the minority of total phones, it has had the majority of phone app revenue. App developers know that Apple user base is willing to pay money for apps and willing to experiment more especially if they willing to buy such an expensive product. Apple clearly hasn't mentioned gaming as much as Quest so much so as to not include controllers, thus forcing app developers to work with hands, so much of the VR apps out there require controllers, like how the iPhone got rid of the stylus, trackpad, trackballs and keyboards from phones/PDAs. The question is did they enter at the right time, maybe the tech isn't matured enough. When Apple did launch the iPhone it was missing so many features like copy and paste, front facing cameras, app store, GPS.

    • @Junispro31
      @Junispro31 4 месяца назад

      @khoanguyen0001 then you'd have the problem Android tablets faced when they first came out (most died out the Galaxy Tabs are still going strong though) which is that apps on tablets are just not optimized Phone apps stretched to the big screen. Same applies here. If the app doesn't utilize the benefits of this XR environment, it'd gonna just be literally a scalable iPad pasted on your face.

    • @Junispro31
      @Junispro31 4 месяца назад

      @@alexprachYa but what the original comment is saying is that if this headset don't reach the masses, developers don't find it worth it to spend time making apps that would reach only a fraction of say iPhone users.

      Seriously, I don’t think apps like Affinity Photos for iPad, DaVinci Resolve for iPad, and Logic Pro for iPad can take much advantage of a 3D environment. All they need to do is support multiple windows (yes, iPadOS supports multiple windows) and resizable windows. Then, you can, for example, open multiple Affinity Photos windows at once in Vision Pro. You won’t just have an iPad; you’ll have numerous iPads in front of your face. That’s already powerful on its own.
      These kind of apps can only be useful in 3D environments if 3D content is abundant. And if 3D content is abundant, then Vision Pro will not be a flop.

    Great video. I agree about most especially the strap. The thing you missed about Apple is their ability to take existing tech and create an almost entirely new category that is heads and shoulders BETTER and different than any product on the market. The Mac was better and different than what IBM and Compact offered, they didn’t HAVE a “personal computer” category really. The iPhone experience was better than any existing phone plus it had your music and the internet. Apple EXCELS at filling UI and OS vacuums. And that is not just smoke and mirrors.

    • @Junispro31
      @Junispro31 4 месяца назад

      Correct. But you've got to take one thing in consideration. For every past product category Apple entered, be it Computers, Music Players, Phones, Earphones, the category has generally been seen as useful and even essential. Telcos also often provide deals and offers with plans for these consumer devices. Apple gave a "better" version and charged a little higher. AVP on the other hand, is entering a category that's still considered niche, and enters with one of the highest price points (in today's economy with high inflation and everything).

    • @sharonb.9128
      @sharonb.9128 4 месяца назад

      @@Junispro31 I think I get what you are saying. Maybe it’s my age but I remember Apple devices have ALWAYS been considered niche and/or unnecessary when launched. When the iPhone came out the MAJORITY of people thought it was kinda stupid and over the top, especially for the price. People heard the word “phone” and thought they already HAD a phone and it was much cheaper. It’s hard to believe now that most Apple products lead their categories in sales but they did not start out that way and all were considered niche and too expensive. Early adopters not the general public were excited about almost every product I can think of from the AirPods to the Watch. Also remember Apple has EXPANDED the use of many devices that are everywhere today, but not before Apple like home computers, wireless headphones and watches.

    • @Junispro31
      @Junispro31 4 месяца назад

      @@sharonb.9128 The AVP is just so radically different compared to any other product launch Apple made. In terms of utility, one must ask who is this product intended for? The work focused? But it only has 2 hrs of battery life and to do any meaningful work you got to mirror a Mac screen (but you couldnt have multiple displays? HUGE MISS from Apple). Entertainment? Apple seemed to focus alot on home theater in their ads, but it's only for 1 person, battery will die before a movie ends and the thing is just too heavy to be comfortable. Ok, maybe for the spatial videos then? But it's only available recently, so not much to watch + Meta Quest could do the same now. Compared to other products of Apple, AVP just seems confused I think. Like they haven't truly found a good use case. iPhone = Combination of iPod Phone and Internet, Mac = slick power machine, Airpods = no wires, Watch = assistant on your wrists. AVP = ?? (And we haven't even factor in the price).

    I think you’re 100% right. The only thing I’d add is that making it more socially acceptable to wear augmented reality is the real challenge of getting AR off the ground, so it makes sense that Apple would have features built into the product that are not aimed at the end user, but instead are there to help them integrate themselves more seamlessly into their environment.
    I have a feeling I’d really enjoy owning one if I could afford it. I’m pretty impressed at their attention to detail for the applications, and I can see that there could be a lot of great use cases for a device where that much effort has been put in. It’ll be interesting to see how things go from here, I think.

      Batteries could heat a lot and if badly made can cause an explosion. You don’t want them strapped on your head just for the sake of weight balancing. For Army, I think they have much greater things to worry in the battlefield than their night vision exploding.

      It‘s not like they invented anything revolutionary. This form factor can be achieved easily.

    I think you are forgetting an important aspect. I don't think their intent is only to make the product recognizable. They've realized that VR headsets are not sexy, and most people are scared of it. There is too much friction, and destroying your haircut as well as cutting you entirely from everybody around are two frictions.
    The screen particularly : this product scares a lot of people that don't want to be in Ready Player One, disconnected from the real world. This headsets screams : don't worry, you are not disconnected, you can still talk to people, it's just an overlay of real life, and people can't still interact with you and look you it the eyes.
    It's just like with the first Macs that said "Hello"' and looked like they were smiling, the message for adopting a new scary technology is "don't be scared"

    Interesting take. The vision is a market test to accustom the mainstream to a future that is most certainly more productive and natural. Everything they are doing is new, from the finger tap inputs, to the way we interact with people, to the "spaces" we can be in and how we interact with devices using multiple different modes (voice, virtual keyboard, hybrid, etc). They had to find a way to get peoples attention and announce, "This is cool, this is how we think its best, this is the future. Buy me....later when I sell you everything a la carte" XD

      Apple’s attention to detail in how they did Personas was 👍 too.
      The latency was 👍 too. You can play table tennis with a Vision pro on.

      Even beyond weight and battery, with the amazing display specs on it, reviews have said it still can be better/higher fidelity. Can still go to 120 hz and higher, higher FOV, higher res, better color gamut/accuracy. And just as important if not more, the OS needs maturity. Having more window clean up, snap to grid, exposé or mission control functionality, maybe font size/UI element size adjustability, more native apps, having netflix / spotify / google on board…that’s also more reason to wait

  • @fxarts9755
    @fxarts9755 4 месяца назад

    i think you are absolutely right. i also have been thinking about all these "features" for a while now, like how the next gen could look where to save weight and cost, what could have been done differently. and i have to say considering what they are trying to achieve there isnt too much you can cut out.
    oc the dream would be something of the size and weight of the bigscreen beyond headset but making a gud vr headset just isnt the goal here.
    think what is essential for the vision pro are 6 features
    - the controllerless navigation that you really only can get with all these cameras and eyetrackers (probably big cost factor)
    - the seamless paththrough and ar capabilities
    - visual response on the outside, outside display which really helps in seeing if someone has their attention or not
    - design. it cant look like other box like headsets. in ppls minds these things failed/ were only toys i think
    - great performance so everything works on device.
    - it shouldnt hinder how want to enjoy it: meaning you should be able to rest your head back and no wires that will bind you to a pc. so you cant put weight to the back of the strap i think
    and thinking about that what is there to cut down to make it smaller or lighter.
    think display must stay, similarly you cant put something on the back of your head. idk would it be possible to put the processors externaly with the battery? but than the wire probably needs to be thicker and idk if its technically possible.
    think the few things you can change is to make it plastic.
    idk where else apple could go tbh without cutting out features.
