    Everyone is complaining about the cost of the desk fan but I can see its use in lots of places away from the desk. The first thing I keep thinking of is those little fans they have for the driver on coach busses, trucks, farm equipment, etc., where it makes sense to have a durable, robust fan that focuses it's airflow to one location, and where a big company would be able to afford to install the fans in their fleet a lot more readily.

    • @AristotelesQC
      @AristotelesQC 3 месяца назад

  • @Lampe2020
    @Lampe2020 3 месяца назад +1

    I can understand both sides of the argument about the bowed cooler bases. But I think their coolers will still not be obsolete in several years simply because CPU dies will brobably stay in the middle for Intel. They haven't changed much in the past decades when it comes to die placement, so I don't think they'll change much in the future.

    Despite how good many AIOs often are these days and how many often use them, I've still remained an Air Cooler user for CPUs, but I won't deny if they do indeed manage to fully make that phase changer thing and it does indeed compete decently with other AIOs or even a Nocuta air cooler... I would make the change, mostly owing to the fact it lacks the noise and reliability issues.
    But yeah, here's hoping they do manage to crack that.
    Hope they also do a 280 version as well for 140 fans.

    I actually would like it if Noctua would come out with 38mm depth fans across their product stack. I like buying old server gear for my home lab but the fans on those are designed for datacenter use where noise doesn't matter and where the server is expected to be both at 100% utilization the whole time and where it is packed next to a bunch of other servers also pumping out heat. I throw in noctua fans right now to bring the noise levels under control but I do worry if the chassis have enough static pressure to actually cool the system and I don't even bother with coolers and GPUs that are fanless because they expect to be cooled by the case fans pushing air across them.

    I do wish Noctua went the Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 route with socket 1700 and included a contact frame as part of the mounting system to reduce CPU deformation with the ILM locked down. Arctic's solution isn't perfect, but socket 1700 verifiably benefits from replacing Intel's shitty ILM with a thermalright or thermal grizzly frame, as I can confirm with my 12700K.
    Noctua's solution tells me is we're pretty close to reaching "peak air cooler" considering mass-market products are resorting to once enthusiast-only techniques to show a meaningful performance uplift. I respect Noctua's commitment to making sure their products will go the distance, even in severe edge cases. If I'm building a system for reliability and longevity, Noctua is my go-to.

    why not make a set of cpu contacts that are generally optimized for a set of die patterns? one for center, one for edge, center & edge, an X shape, etc. this would require more complex design- needing a die contact plate, cpu/mobo bracket, then the cooler to all combine; but this would allow customers to carry coolers from one cpu to another with only needing a new die plate and/or bracket

    I could understand the „just don’t buy it” mentality for Noctua’s HOME fan if they worked. Focusing a fan to that small of an angle is actually bad as if you move even slightly you have to readjust the fan to face you, no other fan has this issue when it blows everywhere vaguely in front of you.

  • @ShadowGirl-
    @ShadowGirl- 3 месяца назад

    Id say bad take here Linus. The average customer will just get the standard and it will be as you describe, standard and usable for a long time. The other variants satisfy their enthusiast customers, who likely won't be reusing the cooler either, as they would prefer to use updated components every build.
    This is Noctua keeping their usual, while ADDING a couple extra options for special users. Nothing but a positive.

    Noctua is an exemplary company, they don't pump out new fans and coolers every year, that the customers can/should rush to buy the new shiny/brown thing... they take their time to make a real improvement.
    But for the three heat sinks I'll have to side with Linus. When I first heard of the three different shapes for different CPUs I immediately thougt "What when I upgrade my computer/CPU, switching in the process from intel to AMD or vice versa...". I don't want to buy a new cooler, esp. considering the premium build quality and price for Nocuta coolers.
    Moreover I wonder how many customers will buy the wrong version by accident.
