Normally one of the scariest things is an offensive threat using a Tera to change its weakness and avoid being revenge killed by a check/counter. It only really had use early early on in the lowest tiers cause it had hazards + slow U-turn, which despite god awful stats is still neat when there's barely any options otherwise.
My favorite thing about Lokix’s impact in UU is how it makes people underestimate just how good Hoopa-Unbound really is in UU. They’re both A+ in the viability rankings but the former is a route 1 shitmon bug and the latter is a 680 BST Mythical, making people root for the david and makes people wonder why the 680 BST goliath land in UU at all. It also happens to not be used a lot in low ladder in fear of being Lokix food.
The bug typing is actually good, mid at worst and its baffling how people say its a bad type. People conflate gamefreak giving bugs terrible stats with the type itself. Bug moves and dark moves have BY FAR the best secondary effects so getting stab on those gives actual good bug pokemon some utility Bug hits dark, psychic, and grass Super effectively which will be meta relevant for any meta. Resisting ground and fighting also gives bug types a unique defensive profile in any meta HDB exists now so a bug type with a defensive stat spread could work. But
Yeah, well, the isekai genre actually holds some amazing potential, but we keep getting power fantasy slop isekai that some college dropout wrote in a week. Is it that unreasonable to not like the type itself when 95% of its representation is terrible?
It's also amazing in randbats. Can be used early to spread U-turn damage, is fast enough to be able to force a lot of switches which leads into a pokemon getting hit hard with knock off, is a potential sweep checker with F.I. and sucker punch (yes it has two STAB, hard hitting priority moves), and can also even sweep with SD set.
My competitive experience is limited to the occasional Showdown tournament or laddering, specifically in UU because that’s the tier I like the most. There have been many, many games where it’s just us players trying to manoeuvre our Lokix into positions to snag a KO and have come down to who can win the First Impression speed tie
It's obvious that Lokix dominates because it has the unstoppable power of a Shocker Rider's Rider Jump (Bounce), Rider Kick (Axe Kick) and Shocker Rider Punch (Sucker Punch).
You forgot to mention its occasional use of Axe Kick as a coverage option, and sometimes even Low Kick as well. This allows for super-effective coverage against bulky steel types, most notably Skarmory or Corviknight, who quad-resist its Bug STAB. Dark moves do the job here as well, but its fighting stab can be used to hit pure steel types super-effectively like Registeel or Cooperajah, or other Pokemon like Coballion and Magnezone.
As the strongest of the Bug Types fought the Fraud, Calyrex, he began to open his Domain. Calyrex shrunk back in fear, and then Lokix said "Stand Proud Calyrex, you are strong"
I'm finally getting around to playing gen 9 and Lokix is one of the gen 9 mons i was really interested in using. Seeing how good it is has me even more excited to use it.
Noctowl & Yanmega are honestly pretty underrated, tinted lens airslash w/ kings rock can catch a lot of things off guard, especially if you have hazards up or a status affliction on the foe
I do appreciate how we need to talk about UU just like OU now. So many top tier threats have been pushed from their thrones that UU is pretty much an alternative OU.
It was pretty apparent early on that Lokix had some stuff going for it, but I didn't expect it to wind up near the top of the usage charts in UU, that's pretty insane! Bug/dark may be a terrible defensive typing, but as an offensive typing it has access to STAB on some of the best moves in the game (knock off and u-turn might be the two best widely distributed offensive moves in pokemon), which Lokix is very willing to take advantage of. Only running STAB moves is fine when you ignore resistances, so yeah, definitely a great mon.
"Welcome to UU, Tyranitar, what's this? You don't know me? Well let me introduce myself. I am the one that makes every grass types worried. I am the one that makes psychic types sleep with one eye open. I am the one that makes ghost types shiver. And I am the one that makes dark types like you fear me here, and those who don't? Well I'd make a little trick to them to make them learn, to make it so they wont underestimate me because that is the worst mistake you make. Unlike you, to me, coverage is less than irrelevant, while you made ghosts unable to switch due to your pursuits, which you dont have anymore, I make them unable to switch, because not a single of their teammates can take my attacks, they would sacrifice themselves for the team all because they looked at me. Unlike you, I make the trainers think when i appear, i make them calculate the damage i can make. If you want to go back to OU, you have to deal with *me*. So tell me, fallen tyrant, did i make a good first impression?"
Tinted Lens is up there with Adaptability as one of the best offensive abilities. Arguably top 20 offensively, it makes switching in a daunting task unless you have quadruple resists. Bug & Dark coverage are very good together & with First Impression + Sucker Punch, it role compresses as an answer to offense while doubling as a scary wallbreaker.
Lokix is one of those Pokemon that will likely be very good for a very long time. As you pointed out, there are essentially no situations where Lokix is a bad option, as the worst case scenario for Lokix is that you still deal a fat chunk with Tinted Lens First Impression.
I did some runs on Showdown using Adamant Choice Band Tera Bug Lokix.. In many battles, Lokix basically becomes an automatic wincon so long as you have more mons than the opponent and nothing is running protect. Several of those fights ended with me sacking a mon, OHKOing with Loki, sacking a mon, OHKOing with Loki on repeat until it ended. Even something like Azumarill with 100 base HP and 80 base defense is almost always OHKOed by Choice Band Tera Bug First Impression without any entry hazards at all. Triage Comfey cannot OHKO at +1 after Loki tera bugs, and has a 87.5% chance to be OHKOed from full hp. The common mons that 4x resist First Impression still get outspeed and blasted by Knock off. Pecharunt is easily OHKOed, and outsped without heavy speed investment, which it doesn't run. Tinkaton is easily outsped without heavy speed investment, again which it doesn't run, and is 2HKO'd. Gigaton Hammer doesn't come close to an OHKO back. The best thing Tink can do is hit it with Twave if it has it. I never saw a single Cobalion. From my experience, hyper offense Lokix dominates a lot of matchups unless the opposing team has an answer specifically built in to handle it. Battle Bond Protect Greninja was a fantastic counter to it and the team I ran around it, but I won almost every fight and Lokix was racking up kills all over the place. U-Turn also hits ridiculously hard with that setup and a single well-timed U-Turn can completely negate the best answer an opponent has to it. Super bulky Zapdos can tank a first impression even from that setup, but it has a shot at being 2-hit KOed by U-Turn. Bring in something like a Latios and the Zapdos is forced to switch out, easily being KOed by first impression later in the match, or potentially 2HKOed on the switch by U-Turn.
Lokix is such a welldesgined pokemon, probably my favorite in terms of gameplay. Design was already a massive hit for me but the way it works just puts it over the edge

as expected of kamen rider black
I love getting lokix in randoms. Terra bug first impression hits like a truck
Can't believe you forgot my girl Pheromosa, the queen of STAB U-turn
First impression goes bruhhh
First Impression is a signature move after all
It's just not of Golisopod
As the strongest of the Bug Types fought the Fraud, Calyrex, he began to open his Domain. Calyrex shrunk back in fear, and then Lokix said "Stand Proud Calyrex, you are strong"
The one that Bugsy carries in Radical Red is a beast.
Glad to see some coverage of lower tiers.
I only clicked the video because I simply like Lokix as a Pokémon. And hearing someone talk about him being good just makes me happy.
Number 4 and number 5 are both bugs, this makes me happy
I'm finally getting around to playing gen 9 and Lokix is one of the gen 9 mons i was really interested in using. Seeing how good it is has me even more excited to use it.
I'm getting Quagsire vibes from this guy hearing this.
It helps his popularity that he’s one of the only bug designs in years that actually looks cool
Lokix is the powercreep is such a hard line ngl
Imagine if bug gem still existed. First impression would turn into a kill button.
Assuming it would have the same damage boost as Normal Gem, it really wouldn't be better than Choice Band.
@@rjante2236 But then you could First Impression without getting locked.
UU is just gen 8 OU lol
Moon crickets rise up!
Finally My goat Has its time to shine I hoped It would
5:49 my favorite part was when lokix said its uturnin time and u turned all over the place
LOKIX IS MY GOAT RAAAH I LOVE LOKIX
FIRST IMPRESSION FOR THE WIN
come on man, Lokix is a Kamen rider, he's just that good
lokix has seen usage in the ongoing olt, particularly banded sets
Banded lokix fell off hard
Incorrect
Insect plate has been the wave lately
Gen 9 UU is genuinely so fun idk why I don’t play it more
This thing sweeps Geeta’s team by itself in-game with its Bug/Dark/Fighting combo.
Good video, but the real reason lokix is so commonly used is because it's super cool.
Whenever I see something Lokix-related, I gotta comment because KAMEN RIDER!!
Wake up! The hero!
You didn't even mention that it can't be prankster status due to it's dark typing, even if it's not used often
Another great video Freezai!
Lokix is simply built different.
Lokix is such a welldesgined pokemon, probably my favorite in terms of gameplay. Design was already a massive hit for me but the way it works just puts it over the edge
