I play the Ubers UU tier, and some forms are insanely good in the format. We only have Normal, Ground, and Fairy banned via usage, and the majority of the banned mons are Arc forms. Arceus Water, Steel, and Flying were banned for being way too good defensively, and Arceus Ghost and especially Fire were extremely strong offensively, mainly due to them being very good Ekiller forms without Normal being around. Currently Arceus isn't super common, Arc Dark being the most used for utility purposes.
Yeah it's not that most of these Arceus forms aren't strong. It's just that they have a unique issue of not only competing for team slots with other Ubers in the tier, but also competing with the 3 best forms for species clause. If you banned Arceus normal and Arceus ground then Arceus as a whole would probably still push 50% usage.

To elaborate on the part of good forms depending on the meta, Arceus-Fire is far from the best in singles Ubers, only being oppressive in Ubers UU where many of its would-be answers are banned by usage. However, in Doubles Ubers, the power of the Koraidon-Groudon core makes Arceus-Fire one of the best forms, where its natural bulk, utility and access to a strong sun-boosted spread move in Heat Wave make it the perfect partner for the dual sun setters. It helps that Kyogre is at its lowest point due to the presence of both bike dragons who resist its Water moves and either replace its rain with sun (without having to get out immediately or Tera on the rain like Groudon) or threaten to OHKO it or force a Tera, on a move that nothing that isn't immune wants to take either, making sun-boosted Fire STAB harder than ever to withstand.
One thing I always found a bit funny about Arceus is that it has the stats for a gameplay niche we don’t see much. Which is a fast wall. Fast Pokémon usually are super frail and defensive Pokémon usually not fast. While you can EV some defensive mons to be a bit faster and some fast Pokémon to be a bit sturdier, they will still lag behind in these categories next to Pokémon more dedicated to these niches. The difference between Arceus Dark in Ubers and NDubers is pretty interesting. It is considered pretty mid in most generations, but is great in NDubers since it has access to all of toxic, stab foul play, refresh, defog, and taunt which it never could use together in previous gens
Arceus is so interesting for being pretty fast, insanely bulky, and slightly underpowered compared to other mons in ubers, which is funny considering it has the same base stat across the board
The 4th factor in Arceus type viability, much like megas its taking up your Arceus slot. A lot of these types would be more usable if you didnt have the opportunity cost of losing on Fairy or Ekiller for using them
Great vid as usual, Freezai! I just wanted to say, though - you've used the same asset for the DRAGON type many videos now, and each time it has the D a bit black and a black bar across the A... is that intentional, or a mistake? I don't get it... (sorry if this seems like a nitpick)
Arceus-Grass is arguably the best form imo. It's been the best utility 'mon in Ubers for well over 10 years now, and it's always useful. Aromatherapy, Grass being a decent typing, Healing, Will-o-wisp/T--wave support, Defog, Roar, Calm Mind tank potential. It's just amazing. Gen 6-7 Arceus-Grass and Groudon core made such a nice balance sweep shutdown core that Weezing was slotted onto the team and if played properly, you had 0 losing matchups. Xerneas got hard-walled, Mega Mewtwo got rolled, Yveltal lost to Will-o+Weezing...it was just great. Idk you can't go wrong with Arceus-Grass.
I don't know if I'll get an answer to this but I have a question. Arceus-Water is A on the viability rankings (with stuff like Arceus-Normal, Eternatus, and Kyogre), but when looking at it's actual usage it's down in 36th place with 2.6% (around mons like Ditto, Giratina-Altered, and Terapagos). Why is it considered on-par or even better than pokemon in the top 10-20 in the tier when it's usage actually sits around pokemon that are C- ranked or worse?
It’s because you can only have one Arceus on a team. If the three best Pokémon in a tier are all Arceus formes, then that won’t be reflected in the usage stats (unless the tier is incredibly diverse). It’s possible for six Pokémon to be on over 50% of teams, but it isn’t possible for two of the six to be Arceus. Water is outclassed by EKiller and Fairy, so its usage stats are artificially low compared to its viability.

Idk if I’m the only one, but I want Z-moves to come back. And Arceus was able to run it too with its Multitype, which was cool. An OP mechanic Pokemon even straight out banned was type-gems where a move did 1.3 or 1.5 times (i forget which) on the first move of that type.
I agree, the gem ban is underwhelming. but also consider that z moves work once a battle where gems work once per mon. its a 1.5 boost with no choice lock nor recoil.
@@meannush7552 Speaking of gems I feel like EITHER Pokemon Co. or Showdown should have a “Single-gem Clause.” Pokemon would straight out ban it, can’t see why not be able to use at least one. Also it’s a one time use, or make it so that it doesn’t stack with stat buffs, like setting up SD then Iron Head with Steel Gem Kartana (just an example).
I rhink one extra mention for why arceus-normal is so good is because it can hold an extra item. Idk how the damage multiplier for plates work (stab + plate boost?), but normal can let you carry whatever other items you want. Life orb is a pretty great example since it also boosts ypur other attacks
Arceus Dark Tera Normal is good against Calyrex Shadow. When you terastallize to Normal you are immune to Astral Barrage, you could run coverage to hit Calyrex with Psyshock if its Tera Fighting or Sludge Bomb for Tera Fairy.
yea, well... in practice (anything goes, only tier where caly is legal), caly-shadows tend to use tera ghost, normal or grass. a good dark-type judgement is usually enough to put it in its place. and even if not, you don't know if ur opponent is fairy or fighting, and running 2 coverage moves just for 1 mon means u miss out on utility like twave or willowisp.
Noticed a few little weird visual things in the editing. They probably weren't too distracting for most people, but hopefully Freezai's style becomes easier for this editor if they continue working together.
When picking a type you can also think about what moves that type Arceus *could* have. It’s got 120 in every stat, if you use a type that has a build using both Attack or Special Attack. Like how Galarian Rapidash was back in SwSh, if you choose the right type they have no way of knowing whether to switch in a Special wall or a Physical wall. If you choose for example Normal, there’s no thinking needed, they know what you’re doing. Arceus has equal SpAtk and Atk, so if you take everything out, like team preview back then; there’s no way of knowing which they are.
Poor Shaymin Sky, I remember almost always using it in Ubers, since besides Arceus it was the only other Grass type in there, and it was nice to outspeed Darkrai with it. Ubers Jirachi flinching, if only it could be 130 speed now.
I absolutely adore Arceus. one of the best pokemon designs in terms of flavor, and making it an incredibly versatile mon that's been relevant since it released is quite fitting for the God of pokemon
God, i hadn't even considered the metagame implications of Arceus being able to Terastalize. So in a pinch, you can flip it to a completely different type against something intended to counter it, or gain STAB on a coverage move but switch it to a type with better resistances. Or have really busted Extremespeeds
Maybe the next gen should make the legendaries types that need more representation lile bug and ice. That way those types have something in higher tiers.
Ubers has an over representation of Dragon, Steel, Fairy, Psychic, and Flying with the number of Pokemon over 660 BST being extremely limited when you exclude Arceus We have Groudon, Kyogre, aaaaand that’s it
it still bothers that in the game where the gimmick is pokemon can change type with terastal form. THE pokemon that is known to change type isn't given any new cool form/gimmick.

Funny how Normal Arceus is just peak any and every time.
8:18 The Psychic type has left the chat:
?
came to the comments looking for someone talking about it
Why bother necrozma and Mewtwo are better nerczma for obuse reason but Mewtwo has jest as deep of a move pool and has nasty plot
When was the last time you saw a psychic type move in gen 9 singles. Be honest
Kirby air ride music
I think it might be music from another Kirby but I remember it from Kirby air ride
Do you have the same editor as MoxieBoosted? This style is familiar lol
I like that every time you mentioned Rock Slide you show it missing xD
It’s ark-eus. As in, arcane + deus. Which means an unknowable deity.
the name is アルセウス (a ru se u su), you're wrong.

@@meannush7552playing a Japanese game
Poor Shaymin Sky, I remember almost always using it in Ubers, since besides Arceus it was the only other Grass type in there, and it was nice to outspeed Darkrai with it. Ubers Jirachi flinching, if only it could be 130 speed now.
Idk why they nerfed seed flare
In a similar vein, it'd be cool for you to go over what makes a Tera type good or bad for a Pokemon. I still find that confusing sometimes.
I absolutely adore Arceus. one of the best pokemon designs in terms of flavor, and making it an incredibly versatile mon that's been relevant since it released is quite fitting for the God of pokemon
0:05 Arse phone
So this video is now the reason I find out Eternatus is Poison-Type... Weird
05:52 the day shaymin sky drops from ubers is the day the meta game has been powercrep passed hell
Im waiting to see how many times Freezai changes the name of this video while it sits in my watch later
Nobody talking about how the intro music is a Sonic 4, Splash Hill Zone, guitar cover???
That's so niche!
Use either the good or bad plates if you want a good or bad form arceus. Hope this helps
I always found it. Kind of silly that the god of all pokémon needs to hold a little plate to become a different type
0:07 I don't mean to be "THAT guy" but Arceus ISN'T a Legendary, but a Mythical (yes there IS a difference)
I guess any hope that Legends Arceus would've got people to pronounce it correctly has gone. That shit should've been sorted since gen 7 and Silvally
I thought this said arceus type beat and I was ready for some heat
"Extreme Speed... outspeeds every Pokemon."
Comfey: *"Almost* every Pokemon."
and anything with Upper Hand but that's not as funny
Ah yes, casually talking about the competitive viability of literal God
Ok he’s omnipotent but is he meta tho?
God, i hadn't even considered the metagame implications of Arceus being able to Terastalize. So in a pinch, you can flip it to a completely different type against something intended to counter it, or gain STAB on a coverage move but switch it to a type with better resistances. Or have really busted Extremespeeds
I used to use steel arc back in gen 6. I used cosmic power with toxic and willowisp. And I'd say "stall god is above this futile squabble"
Arceus Flying? Asking because I'm curious about that Ground Immunity
That ending was inspirational
Did the thumbnail change or is freezai using the feature where you can choose two thumbnails? I really liked the artwork one.
Never forget Arceus-Steel
Arceus-Ghost is good in balanced hackmons but I know that’s not the tier.
Extreme killer arceus is solid, then having earthquake shadow claw as coverage makes it a menace
Maybe the next gen should make the legendaries types that need more representation lile bug and ice. That way those types have something in higher tiers.
they already tried to make uber ice types. its just dont work. just ask kyreum and ice calyrex.
Ice types need to be a fast glass cannon to be good. See weavile, mega weavile and bundle
Ubers has an over representation of Dragon, Steel, Fairy, Psychic, and Flying with the number of Pokemon over 660 BST being extremely limited when you exclude Arceus
We have Groudon, Kyogre, aaaaand that’s it
i agree with you except the part with flying. they arent used a lot in games for their stealth rock weakness
@@meannush7552 Not really talking about viability but representation
We have Lugia, Ho-oh, Rayquaza, and Yveltal
Love how the example footage for stone edge was a miss 😂
Some player is going to make it their goal to reach #1 with an Arceus-Bug team after watching this
You said Steel resisted Dark and Steel instead of Dark and Ghost in gen 5
Edgequake 😭😭😭
6:20 Ho-oh can try and take on calm mind arceus, but it would lose to the psychical stone egde:
**The attack misses**
I wonder about the types Freezain didn't mention, like Fire, Flying, or Ice.
they all share the same weakness
it still bothers that in the game where the gimmick is pokemon can change type with terastal form. THE pokemon that is known to change type isn't given any new cool form/gimmick.
