Fun Fact: In gen 7, Skill Swap Magic Guard is actually banned because people start running offensive alakazam to kill 5 pokemon and then skill swap magic guard and the opponent literally cannot die with heal pulse support
The fact that you straight up win if you stop just 1 of your opponent's pokemon from dying is what makes this so interesting, for the tourney I was trying to see if I could make it an actual legit playstyle like steel beam and court change but it's too inconsistent. Realizing that you can intentionally faint their problematic pokemon so the final one is exploitable was a eureka moment, but it still wasn't enough.

I'd like to point out that Knock Off's item removal is still relevant in this meta, and Tera Ghost, in addition to the curse thing, has the more niche interaction of making you weak to Knock Off, potentially getting you KOd faster.
At first I thought that the whole format was going to be about gholdengo and damp pokemon like golduck, but there's a surprising amount of depth, this could actually be an official ruleset.
I think the most elegant and interesting part of this format is how a team "taking a lead" can lead to the opossing team getting an edge. For example, in a scenario like that last battle, bringing maushold to tidy up the stealth rock is effective, but after you lose your maushold, you also lose the ability to deal with their stealth rocks. Its an interesting and tricky balancing act, you need your pokemon's utilirarian moves, but having your pokemon die, the goal of the format, reduces the options you have available. Its just the right opposite to the usual pokemon formula And im honestly a huge fan
I play this mode with court change stealth rock and then the rest of my Pokémon 4x weak to rock. If the opponent has defog it’s tough, but if they don’t it’s an easy win
On the topic of weird strats, would wonder skin be optimal in that format? Being able to mess with heal pulse/taunt acc could be intresting to watch. Venomoth isnt great, but it gets sleep powder, baton pass and disable, so maybe?
My first thought was the Perish Song and Roar combo, but I also thought of disrupting the opponent with sleep and paralysis, using Pain Split when they're almost dead to hurt yourself and heal them, etc.
Ngl, moves that heal your opponent feel like they’d be goated here. Also that one berry that causes you to unsure with 1hp instead of a KO combined with a move like throw would be pretty busted for stalling out a turn
Sandshrew (even the alolan) was always my favorite pokemon, so hearing that he's the best pokemon for playing a LOSING game got me conflicted. still happy for him
Ironically, I use Alolan Sandshrew in the games. Why? 0 SpA IV, -SpA nature Sandshrew is one of the weakest users of Powder Snow, the weakest Ice-type move with a chance to freeze. I can spam it on wild Pokémon until they get frozen if I need to, while using Eviolite for extra bulk.
@@furiouscorgi6614 You can, that's certainly a lot more reliable, but it doesn't work on grass types, Pokémon with Overcoat, or Pokémon immune to sleep. There are ways around that too, like Soak and Gastro Acid, but unless I'm doing a very specific hunt, Sandshrew is a solid option to keep on hand. There's also the fact that freeze doesn't last a maximum of 3 turns, so if you're lucky they can stay frozen for some time.
Mime Jr. would probably be a nice niche pick if it was available, because it can get Soundproof and Skill Swap and do what Clefable does but for Perish Song users. Plus, it's weak to Steel Beam, so hey
Nice video, but a slight error when talking about perish song. It's still a 4 turn strat if you count the turn it's used on, when the timer doesn't tick down. Even in your video the pokemon doesn't die until turn 4 in the top left corner at 2:22. It takes the same amount of turns as the struggle only Charizard, both fainted on Turn 4, therefore, both are 4 turn strats. Perish song may say "Perish in 3," but it doesn't tick down the turn it's used on, so it still takes 4 turns total.
Actually, the first thing I thought about before even explosion spam was Ghost type Curse spam since that move halves the user's HP, but then again I've never checked how many ghost type lines get the move aside from the Gengar line so there might not be enough to make that completely viable. Edit: after checking I can confirm there are more than 6 ghost type lines that get Curse

Another neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
Although, this meta sounds a little centralized, no?
Sandshrew (even the alolan) was always my favorite pokemon, so hearing that he's the best pokemon for playing a LOSING game got me conflicted. still happy for him
I've actually been hoping someone would cover the loser's game so much because I don't have a good handle on the meta just from the forums
Can't you also just use Spore?
@@furiouscorgi6614 You can, that's certainly a lot more reliable, but it doesn't work on grass types, Pokémon with Overcoat, or Pokémon immune to sleep. There are ways around that too, like Soak and Gastro Acid, but unless I'm doing a very specific hunt, Sandshrew is a solid option to keep on hand. There's also the fact that freeze doesn't last a maximum of 3 turns, so if you're lucky they can stay frozen for some time.
I love seeing uses for my boy
Yo waddup here for support
I love sandshrew of any kind. Just a cute little critter that you love to see winning- I mean losing.
I would have lost horribly because my first thought was Dry Skin in the sun
Man, I was not expecting Pokémon Golf to turn out like this.
Mime Jr. would probably be a nice niche pick if it was available, because it can get Soundproof and Skill Swap and do what Clefable does but for Perish Song users. Plus, it's weak to Steel Beam, so hey
Me when Freezai tells me to comment on his video (its an order)
What an awesome format
Nice video, but a slight error when talking about perish song. It's still a 4 turn strat if you count the turn it's used on, when the timer doesn't tick down. Even in your video the pokemon doesn't die until turn 4 in the top left corner at 2:22. It takes the same amount of turns as the struggle only Charizard, both fainted on Turn 4, therefore, both are 4 turn strats. Perish song may say "Perish in 3," but it doesn't tick down the turn it's used on, so it still takes 4 turns total.
I think the coolest part about this is there's no sweeping so there can't be any blowouts from 1 or 2 decisions.
Great video!
My awful plays will make me win (lose) in this game too 💀
Love from a Pchal and Vaush fan!
Imagine using espeons magic bounce to get rocks on yourself
another ruleset could be your opponent uses the team you bring
How effective would it be to dig out the old Truant Durant with Entrainment? Could it force enough switches to create a stalling tactic?
Imagine people intentionally hurting and fainting their Pokemon by competing in this format in the PKMN world.
This would a cool april fool's day exclusive event
Actually, the first thing I thought about before even explosion spam was Ghost type Curse spam since that move halves the user's HP, but then again I've never checked how many ghost type lines get the move aside from the Gengar line so there might not be enough to make that completely viable.
Edit: after checking I can confirm there are more than 6 ghost type lines that get Curse
This is hilarious.
Finally... The time of Sandshrew is at hand...
Doesn’t work for Steel Beam but considering the amount of Chloroblast around, is Sap Sipper viable?
"Task failed successfully", the format.
Hmm a doubles mode could be interesting
I participated in the tournament and got top 16 with Ralts, a niche Pokémon as Steel Beam fodder and Taunt + Heal Pulse
