oh darn! you are the only reactors I have seen have any sort of negative about this song. it tends to win over even hardcore rock folks. I am surprised. it is such a mix of a really really great groove, kooky lyrics, fun rap from the early days by q-tip, bootsy collins for heaven's sake, a really great wit about it, all sorts of sounds going in all sorts of directions, and just fun fun fun. oh well. next time. thanks for posting.

Something I just learned the other say completely by accident is that the "I - I - I - I" sample that hits before she sings "I couldn't dance for another" is actually the first syllable of Eva Gabor singing "I get allergic smelling hay" from the Green Acres theme song.

Beyond "Groove is in the Heart," it can be argued that Deee-Lite was largely typecast by the music industry and not truly given the opportunities to have their music played on top 40 format stations in America. "Groove is in the Heart" is a rare exception and that was a top #5 hit. A huge piece of evidence that Deee-Lite was pigeon-holed into being a dance music band was that while "Groove is in the Heart" was the sole major pop hit, the group had SIX #1 songs on the dance charts in their very short five year run. It would have been interesting to see what might have happened with Deee-Lite if they got more air time on top 40 stations in America.
At this point in the "one hit wonder" marathon, "Groove is in the Heart" has to lead all songs with a nearly insurmountable lead of sampling a documented 10 plus songs in just that tune. Not surprisingly, the song has been sampled nearly 60 times and covered over 10 times. Perhaps the most recognizable artist or group to cover the song was Blues Traveler in 2023. The link to the Blues Traveler cover is the link above.
I'm interested to hear the guys thoughts as I'm not sure there has been a somewhat "recent" upbeat dance type song on the marathon up this point. That will definitely end with this next video. 😀

There’s two versions of this song. This version which has rap part and then there’s a non rap cut. Both were played on the radio but radio stations tend to play the non rap version because it’s shorter. Radio stations generally like to play short version of songs. This means that they can play more songs and commercials. Especially commercials.

Reminds me of Love Shack by The B-52's which came out the same year-both over the top songs for parties/clubs. I prefer this one though.

Thanks so much to the person(s) who requested “Groove Is In The Heart”. Ryan and Nick are going to love it. And one or both may even develop a crush on Lady Miss Kier. 😎
-the purists who come here will whine and moan per usual but it’s not like the guys will never react to rock again- ✌🏽

@@jackgilchrist It’s all good. It’s not their scene which is completely fine. Also, I think Ryan and Nick are the 1st reactors who _haven’t_ liked it.

Looking for an appropriate group for the April 8th eclipse? Try Timbuktu 3 and their hit from the 80s titled ‘The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades’

Good reaction. I was around for the peak of this track and while it always filled the dance floor I never liked it, and I never knew why either.

This was part of the fraternity parties play list back in 1990-1994. I couldn’t go to a party and not hear this song at least 2-3 times a weekend night. Good thing it was fun to dance to…

Yeah I didn't know about Q-Tip being in this song and I've never heard the rap part, either. I've never seen this entire video before. I watched part of it once back in the day but back then I fucking hated this song so I didn't stick around. 😂 I mean it's a cute, fun party song. Nothing great, but not terrible either. I will say it was an interesting concept to put late '60s Go-Go Pop into a modern (1991) Dance/House song, at least.

No disrespect but if you’ve never heard the rap part then you’ve never listened to the song in its entirety. Not a crime that you didn’t know but Q-Tip was on the original album version. This isn’t some remix in case anyone is wondering. Deee-lite was forward thinking bc 2 yrs later Mary arrives and the hip hop collab is officially born.

Might be my all time favorite one hit wonder. I hated disco when it first came out, now with nostalgia I’ve grown a little fond of it. People love this song for the same reason they love Love Shack. It’s a very fun party song.

And totally groovy and funky. Lady Kier is a bit of a loon, but her style and vocals are awesome. You are both totally wrong. Just so ya know. 🙂
