The bombchu explosion making bubbles, those bubbles rising, and finally making ripples on the surface is just so, so refined for this time period.
I do love how just because OOT is dated, doesn't mean the devs didn't put a lot of detail into it
@@MrStanFungi it's the little details that really show the effort
@@greenhat8978 yea
Fun fact: in the 3DS remake, the measure of the diving pool has been adjusted, so Link now stands at 5'7, which is the intended canonical height of multiple incarnations, according to interviews!
(Personally, I prefer Short King Link though.)
5'7" is still a short king. This comment was left by the short king gang.
Dang, that would make Ganondorf like 9'10" by the pixel comparison lol
Meter please
5,5 man here.
I'm happy that link is taller than me so his suffering is lessened.
5,7 guys are not looked as short.
Cuz they don't get a "damn you are short!" , After describing their height
If I'm not mistaken, the link depicted in my profile picture is 1.5 meters.
I guess Link being short helps the player see over his head during gameplay (like Little Mac in Punch-Out) and Ganondorf being so giant helps him be visible in the fight. Very enjoyable video as always!
well keep in mind too, the art style means everyone is sort of reduced, made shorter and thicker. I'm surprised the meters weren't embiggened as well, just to make up for how everyone's legs are so short.
Also average male height in Japan is shorter than in the west so they probably see that as more normal
@@Drew_150 Average japanese male is still much higher at 1.70 meters
@@ShotaroAsakura That’s still just barely one head in difference.
And it’s fairly common knowledge that people where shorter in the past, which makes sense for a fantasy setting.
And even then Link tends to be shorter than average in his world, so it all makes sense.
The editing and production in this one is fantastic. Impressive.
For real
It much better
It needs to be saluted
It just gets better and better every video
The camera angles and panning on the hookshot/longshot comparisons were my favorite.
For Majora’s Mask
On the second day in Ikana graveyard (maybe the third as well), if ya talk to Dampe, he’ll complain about the bats. If ya take the time to get rid of them and talk to him again, Dampe thanks ya and pays ya 30 rupees (watching these vids has made me discover a LOT of secrets I never would have noticed before)
so much detail for back then
I did this once as a kid and forgot about it for 11 years until Majora's Mask Randomizer made me need to do it again lol. So many things like that in Zelda Randos
It's just day 2.
certified dampe moment
Whaaaaaat!
What this tells me is either that the average height in Hyrule (relative to our universe) is shorter, or else that the Lake Scientist is working with a woefully inaccurate measuring device.
I think it's just the art style. everyone is designed so their heads are a little big, their torsos a little normal, and their legs a little short.. so if you find a helmet prop that looks comically oversized, or seemingly small boots, or heights not lining up right.. that's why.
Also there is that apparently in the 3DS remake the Lakeside Lab's diving pool measurements were changed making Adult Link now 5'7'' rather than 4'11''
The amount of detail in this game for the time is as good as it gets. It clearly deserves the spot as one of the greatest games of all time!
I don't think the torch method for the web was unintended. Fire arrows are a completely optional item that is easily missable. Makes sense that there is an alternative in the trial.
Wow!!! The longshot having a visible double spool on the prop is freakin crazy!!!
To do the heights properly you need to remove the water from the lab, and then spawn characters in a neutral pose. Feet together, body straight, etc. You'll most likely find that the numbers are different compared to counting pixel heights. (And just how damn huge is Twinrova?)
This will be fun!
Also there is that apparently in the 3DS remake the Lakeside Lab's diving pool measurements were changed making Adult Link now 5'7'' rather than 4'11''
3:15 Yeah but also remember that Hylians are pretty regularly depicted as being on the smaller side. 3'3" may be below the height of the average ten year old, but it's probably on par for the average Hylian ten year old.
I like how this episode is just 'fun with math with Looygi'. I don't normally even like math much, but this was actually fun! The editing definitely kept it snazzy and interesting. Great work in getting more complex and creative with the custom camera and freeze cam, definitely happy you started using custom cams. :3
A lot of work went into this video, and the content was entertaining and cool as well! It was neat learning how long Link's... hookshot is.
Zelda is always impressed with links hookshot
LMAOOOOOOOOO
Regarding Ganondorf's height in the Hyrule Historia, they also note that he's a little hunchbacked, which may be where the height difference comes from in-game.
I would love to see a height comparison of Fierce Deity Link and Ganondorf :D
In MM64 Fierce Deity Link is exactly 2.12x the size of Child Link. If we take for granted the video vallue of 1 meter, FDL is 2.12 m tall (6'11).
In MM3D the difference is slightly lower: 2.02 times. FDL being 2 meters or 6'7.
While I suspect the depth chart in the laboratory isn't perfectly scaled, it does provide an interesting look into the comparative lengths and heights of the characters. Maybe the average heights of NPCs could be compared to get a better idea of how Link matches up to Hyrule's average heights. It could be that he's below average in general, or that the Hylians (and other races) are just shorter people.
Gerudos are a lot taller than Hylians on average.
Adult Link is as tall as an average npc
Also there is that apparently in the 3DS remake the Lakeside Lab's diving pool measurements were changed making Adult Link now 5'7'' rather than 4'11''
We are learning quite a bit of math today... though it is interesting to know Link as both an adult and child is quite short with Impa having a 2 inch height over him. I wonder if without his shoes on, it'd make him an inch or two shorter. But what caught me off guard is just how much of an absolute unit Ganondorf is... no wonder so many fell triforce of power or not, that is exceedingly tall. Makes sense too since the Gerudo women are considered Amazons in a desert though... what are their heights? They seem to be shorter than Link at least from memory.
Still learning new things about a game that is almost 25 years old...
Keep up the good work guys!
You guys are somehow keeping one of my favourite games from decades ago relevant with new insights every few days/weeks.
The level of detail in these games never cease to amaze me. No wonder these worlds still feel so real despite the dated graphics. While you might not notice these details at first sight your subconscious mind does.
Interestingly Sheik looks slightly smaller than adult Zelda, but Adult Zelda is wearing a dress and possibly high-heeled shoes (or might be just standing straighter), so it checks out.
Fantastic work, as usual. I love the way you use tools to analyze every nook and cranny of these games.
Really great stuff - the custom cam is being used in such a cool way! Genuinely look forward to every Zelda video you push out!
I really enjoy your videos! And the custom camera shots are fantastic. I love that you move the camera similarly to how it's done in game. Thank you so much for your awesome work!
5:37 actually, I feel like I never had a good look on what kind of monstrosity ganondorf turned into. Thanks for this view!
An OOT movie with the custom camera would be so cool.
I discovered that Zora boomerangs kill ice wolves with one hit in Majoras mask. I don’t know if that’s already known by everyone or not, but I thought it was cool!
most likely due to hitting the tail, which is their weak spot
It's just the tail being the weak spot. A hit anywhere else is just normal damage. The tail is practically infinite damage.
Pretty sure the lighting the arrow on fire thing IS the intended way. That's how I did it as a kid because the fire arrow itself is the optional item.
You'd be required to have Din's Fire by that point as well. I feel like that would work too and maybe be more intended.
@@megamachopop din’s fire doesn’t reach the ceiling of that room (I’ve tried it before)
@@literallywhy6162 Yea I tried it as well. It was a long time ago, but me and my brother got stuck on that room for a while I believe.
great video! love how creative you get with the camera angles and different fun ideas within the game!
I just used a tape measure to check how tall Ganondorf would be in real life using these measurements aaaaand it kinda adds a whole new level of fear to his character tbh. I'm 6"2 and it was spinning me out just trying to visualize him standing in front of me, so god knows how poor little Link felt going up against such a tower of a man! He really did have courage!
This game is so good and full of detail, it was way ahead of its time.
It’s impressive with how much new stuff you come out with!!
Keep the videos coming! 😍
These get better and better! Keep up the good work, interesting how short link really is
1:39 That was what I did in my first playthrough of the game since I didn't know where the Fire Arrows were found at the time.
Same
Very good explanation, and a perfect video editing !!!!!
Love your Channel here in Brasil !!!!!!!!
this was such an amazingly edited video, well done! love it
It’s so awesome to find out all these facts about OOT after all these years.
Your attention to detail just earned my sub.
Really impressive, always happy to see a new video from you!
Yo, I'm so happy these keep coming out.
Amazing work! I love your vids of Ocarina of time man, congratulations!
wow so much effort put in this Video! thank you for making me smile 😌
Love you guys. Thanks for making my favorite game even better!
I loved learning about the heights of different characters and distance with the longshot! Could we see how tall the Gerudo are next? How about the Zora, the Gorons? BigGoron?!
This CUSTOM CAM is awsome. Congrats for this video.
3:46 I feel compeled to disagree.
Link's height measurement was done in a pose with open legs and slightly contracted kneed.
I bet he could get neat 1,70 m with feet touching and such, like in this pose with Zelda.
.
I hate people nitpicking on a good work like this video, but somehow I can't hold myself, sorry.
About the Ganondorf height, it does mention he's usually hunched, which means he's probably 230cm while hunched, because that's his normal height
when link is in the pool by the scale, his knees are quite bent and he is leaning slightly forward. when he is being the reference for Zelda he is standing straight, rendering Zelda's height inaccurate
Very cool video my dude I really do like all the details and knowledge I get for watching your videos growing up with this a Majora's mask all the cool things I never even know about
OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH ❤️
Man , you're the best
Knowing this is very difficult to create a video 📸 , well done bro
Very interesting stuff and awesome editing!
Bombchus were water bombs before waterbombs were a thing
Now that more OoT romhacks are popping up I hope we see that feature more often
Entertaining and interesting as always!
The Ice Spell showing the Water medallion symbol shows the original intent for it, to be the ice medallion. Also, isn't child link referred to as 5yo interally? Maybe he was originally supposed to be 5 and they didn't change the model when they increased his age.
Wasn't Child (or, rather, Human) Link being 5 internally a sign of a change in MM's development? Something about Deku Link being developed as a starting form and then being switched to Human Link? I might be wrong as well, but if Child Link in OoT really was 5, it would make Adult Link merely 12-years-old, which is hardly a great cut-off for adulthood.
great video!
Honestly, i already assumed the longshot was more than twice as long just from listening to the number of clicks. Thanks for confirming this for us.
The custom cam footage really is amazing!
The fact Link is 4'11" is sending me, how am I taller than the Hero of Time 🤣
As a 4'11 man myself, I love it lmao
Thanks! Amazing production :)
Thank you so much Gabriel! 🙏
This guy is a master on details. LOVE IT
Wow, the videos get better and better!
Link isn't actually that short compared to the people around him, so I wonder if Hylians are just naturally shorter than Humans. Impa is a Shiekah, or at least mixed Hylian/Shiekah, so maybe that's why she's taller and closer to what we consider average. If we look at the Gorons, and especially the Zora, we'd see numbers closer to or even greater than the average human. Gerudo, we already know, are really tall, despite the Gerudo women in this game not reflecting that.
Since it is a stylized game, I don't think the measurements have to to translate exactly to the real world.
Yeah, hylians are a short race, in breath of the wild, one gerudo couldn't date a hylian because he doesn't date women twice his height, and she said she's only 8 feet tall, if I recall properly
@@gamerezgazzer2751 oh yeah! She was my favorite. I felt so bad for her as she laid at the bar.
A very fascinating comparison! Always love science in my video games!
This FAQs are very cool. I played it last week and now I'm playing majoras mask again. This two 3d adventures are still the best of the series Nintendo has ever made.
So it's less that that one Zora in the other video was huge, and more that everyone else in Hyrule is a proverbial Smurf.
So cool great work 💪❤️🔥
I was about to call my childhood ruined if the Longshot wasn’t twice as long and I was lied to as a kid !!
This channel is my favourite nintendo channel. Finding things I never did
I think this has been my favorite one so far.
The height thing is really cool. I never noticed the graph in the background, so it is cool to see that when Link was guest-starring in Soul Calibur; they got the height correct.
That transition into measuring his height was perfect!
Cool vid:)
Coool, it Would be interesting to Know the lenght of all the Bosses!
That right there, the bubbles on the bombchu. That is why the game was delayed for so long. That has to be it!
Well i always had the curiosity about the longshot's length, and this video is a very entertaining one for anyone that loves this game, great to see these new angles and cameras, guess that has something to do with a certain port, would that be it?
Here's one i found out recently and idk if this has been said already but anyways
at the black and white ending screen, if you wait for a little you will hear the song you've played as a child to Pierre the scarecrow (not the one to get the scarecrow's song)
and if you wait longer you'll hear the same song but sang by malon's voice
idk it was interesting i guess lol
They took that out in the collector's edition.
I think realistically, give the characters about a foot extra in height. 5’11 and 4’3 for link makes sense.
1:54 I like the camera angle for this one xD
If you think about it, being able to burn the web without fire arrows was probably intended, since you could get there without even knowing they exist
That just speaks volumes about how well designed OoT really is, the devs could have just required you to get the fire arrows, but they provided an alternative
Waw. Didn't expect that much high quality and production content! Impressed. GG
We do realize that this basically means that Gerudos aren't freakishly tall Hylians are just a naturally shorter race.
I love your content
According to Hyrule, Historia link is 5’7” as an adult in ocarina of time
I like the outros to your videos.
The custom cams are stellar!
Gran video. Gracias.
i never realized just how big the Dorf is in general. its one of those thing you dont really notice or think about until you get a better perspective. its like the shop guy is Resident Evil 8. besides him being obviously overweight, you cant really tell in-game. but if you pull the camera out the guy is BIG.
Wow, the actual heights were surprising, but seeing the real length of the Hookshot/Longshot with the custom camera and measurements was amazing! They reach crazy far!
The torch to burn the web is intentional. Nintendo producers frequently have several ways to beat puzzles in case you run out of something. So as to not be as frustrating, like the 4 turning pillars in forest temple, you can use fire arrows or dins fire to unlock the frozen switch. Or if you got there without either or ran out of magic, you can shoot through the torch.
Now we know that Hylians are actually little dwarves, how cute!
This episode really measures up with the other ones
Could you also do a comparison with the Longshot and the Hookshot in MM? I'm 90% sure the Hookshot in MM is longer than the Longshot from OoT.
I believe they are roughly the same. Though MM might edge out by a little bit.
I actually tested this
-Both OoT and MM run at 20fps(dang, that seems slow)
-Both the OoT Longshot and MM hookshot have the exact same frame data, reaching maximum distance on frame 25, and at the longest distance, taking 27 frames for Link to reach his target.
I think they copied the Longshot and changed it's appearance from OoT to MM, but now I'm curious to see if they're the same length 🤔
@@jadeshapeshifter Interesting, when playing MM the Hookshot feels a bit longer than the Longshot.
Maybe show off some Seam Walking? I discovered that glitch by accident when I was a kid and if i remember correctly you can do it at around 10 different places to get some good angles and also break sequences
In the water temple, if you use the hookshot at the same time as some waterstream push you up, Link may aim the hookshot while crouching.
If not already covered: I believe the background of the file select screen is actually the night skybox rotating.
At 1:50 that’s exactly what I did as a kid because I never knew how to get the fire arrows
It started so humble with dive test and then went straight lets measure everyone and every thing. well enjoyable just the same the hook and long shot length was most interesting. I never bothered to check and see if the long shot had a length. My sister once called the hook shot the short shot and i still say that.
....all I took from this is that I can invite Ganon over for coffee and he could comfortably sit in my living room. Not nearly as intimidating as he seemed in that field surrounded by the rubble of his tower...
Link is not standing fully straight though, he has a little bend at the knees. I'd say he's at least an inch or two taller
I remember a game theory from years ago (forgot which vid) that used the diving meter to measure Link’s height and MatPat concluded 5’7
5'7 seems much more likely. But who knows!
@@SpiritBomb1994 I remember Zelda wiki or Zeldapedia saying the height chart measured Link as 5’1.
I tend to imagine Link and Zelda being on the short side (5’4 or shorter)
Yeah just looking at the thing in game seems kinda flawed because Link has his knees bent a fair bit pretty much all the time. When measuring height you wanna stand as upright as possible. Maybe hacking the game into making him T-pose would help here.
You've also gotta account for his boots and hat, but at that point you just need to make an educated guess about how thick the sole of his shoes is and how voluminous his hair is at the top of his head. Assumptions are kinda unavoidable there.
@@nicocchi good point. Then that means Link maybe around 5’1, which would mean Zelda and Impa are 4’10 & 5’3 respectively and Ganondorf is NINE FEET TALL!!!
@ B R, in this game 9 feet would be colossal, but since BOTW has Gerudo women as giantesses, 9 foot Ganondorf would not be surprising in that game.
I really like your videos 🗿
