    These videos prove how ahead of its time OoT was. You don't really think being able to chop down a sign in a way that accurately shows HOW you hit it is impressive until you realize not many games do this these days. AND you can mess with the bits you chop off and have them float on water since the sign is made of wood. One of the first 3D games ever made has way more detail than the majority of 3D games these days.

    • @shinou110

      To some extend OoT was at least 7 years ahead in time.

      @@SECONDQUEST I disagree. Every little detail adds realism and further immerses the player into the game thus providing a more memorable experience. That's why games like OoT, BoTW, and even RD2 are so highly rated and loved by those who play them for years and years after they've been released. There is definitely a reason - it's just that most game companies are either lazy or too focused on profit margins to invest in those details that gamers so appreciate.

    I didn't know about the Time Stones. But I would guess that sending them forwards and backwards through time was supposed to play a more important role at some point during development.
    The function was probably not used anywhere but wasn't removed either.

    • @chompythebeast
      @chompythebeast 2 года назад +36

      I mean, it just makes sense. The Ocarina of Time is used to move them, they appear to perhaps be made of a similar substance, they have the Ocarina on them... _of course_ they do like the Ocarina does and move back and forth, rather than just disappearing. But it does seem plausible this was going to be a more heavily-used mechanic, rather than only ever being noticed by players in that one obscure room in Goron Village, and only if you're going for 100%

    • @Jotari
      @Jotari 2 года назад +23

      They probably ran into a road block with you only getting the Song of Time and the end if the child sequence of the game. Meaning they couldn't figure it in to many puzzles in the child section. I guess they could have done something with it on the Spirit Temple (and I think they just might in Master Quest). Though the fact that you can make them appear and disappear no matter which timeline means there's no way to actually involve the mechanic in a puzzle, unless they remove the ability to make them appear and only make then disappear, but then it becomes kind of annoying to go all the way back to the temple of time to solve a puzzle.

    • @majoraslayer64
      @majoraslayer64 2 года назад +26

      Young Link was added later on in development. I suspect the original idea was to allow Link to travel through time on-demand instead of always needing the Temple Of Time, so you could "flip" between child and adult as you work through dungeons. The logistics of making two versions of each area to keep that idea as interesting as they intended may have been too wide of a scope, so they drastically reduced the role of time travel in the game. It's kind of like if the ideas used in the Spirit Temple were expanded to the entire game. Probably the only reason the time blocks weren't used more in the Spirit Temple itself is because of how inconvenient traveling all the way back to the Temple Of Time to use them would have been.

    • @Lego3400

    • @brainfreeze91
      @brainfreeze91 2 года назад +9

      This might explain the behavior of the Totem thing in the video too. Hammer swing and hammer shockwave seem to be two different elements. I don't know if hammer swing does damage but the shockwave does. Normally you hit something with a jump attack you're also hitting it with the shockwave but not Gold Skulltulas. Those are immune to the shockwave unlike the walltulas, probably because they carry that special item and having them fall off or change location would be tricky.
      Back to the totem, the crouch stab trick doesn't trigger it because it seems that the crouch stab mimics the shockwave, NOT the swing. And I'm betting it's ONLY the swing that affects the totems.

    Actually, Song of Time blocks are a bit more interesting: While some do travel trough time, some don't (Like those inside GTG or Ice Cavern). There is a pretty good video about SoT blocks, made by ZFG. Basically, SoTB are separated into two categories:
    - Flag holders, which travel through time.
    - Temporary flag holders, which go back to their original state when you leave the dungeon.

Ocarina of Time has a theme for almost every room in the game, and BOTW uses its music to create a more immersive feel to the environments. They are two totally incomparable ways of using music in video games. Just because the music isnt usually as "in-your-face" as OoT, does not mean that it has "no music", and saying so along with saying that all the detail is "soulless" with no basis in which to call it that is just such a dishonest way of handwaving all the brilliant talent and effort that went into BOTW, just the same as OoT. If innovating the series in a good way results in calling the game "an abomination to the series" in your self-righteous, uninformed opinion, then so be it. I wish triple AAA games were still made with this amount of detail in level design, gameplay and score. I don't know if you're looking for more ideas from the comment section at all; but just in case, here are some OoT facts of varying quality:
    - There are three "secret" gauntlets in the game that were presumably leftover from earlier stages of development or the unfinished DLC. These gauntlets can be accessed through the use of glitches. These gauntlets grant the strength of the golden gauntlets and affect the attire of certain Gerudo.
    - The Fishing pond has a secret 'Sinker lure' which can be randomly found by pressing A in certain areas of the pond (It is incredibly difficult). You can also steal the owner's hat.
    - All three Child Link dungeons include the offspring/lesser versions of the dungeon's boss.
    - You can encounter both: a business scrub, and a Wolfos, before obtaining any items whatsoever.
    -Gohma can be stunned by Deku Nuts instead of the slingshot.
    - Ruto is able to unearth AND defeat the "stinger" enemy in one blow. Other methods usually require Link to draw it's attention or stun it before dealing the finishing blow. (Ruto is also an effective weapon against the Tailpasarans as well, for a largely similar reason)
    - The lens of truth can uncover the location of the dead hand, and bombs can unearth him. It is also possible to temporarily kill the infinite hands with a spin attack.
    - You can hurt Phantom Ganon with the hookshot whilst he is still on his horse. This bypasses the need for the bow in the boss fight.
    - Phantom Ganon has a rare rainbow spear move that he will sometimes use instead of throwing a light orb.
    - There is nothing in the Fire Temple that NEEDS the bow and Arrow. The one eye switch in the fire temple can easily be bypassed by climbing over a fence in the next room (The layout seems to deliberately be built for this to be possible too). This means there is nothing stopping you from doing the fire temple first. (The M. Hammer also isn't needed outside the F. temple until Ganon's Castle so you could even do it after Water and Spirit)
    - Volvagia can be damaged by arrows while it flies through the air, as long as it's snout has been exposed. It can also be damaged by bombs at the beginning of the fight if they are quickly placed in the nearest lava hole (I think this has to do with them storing Volvagia from the cut-scene there)
    -The Fire Temple boss arena allows you to walk back to the door, despite the sinking block suggesting that you are trapped.
    - The outside of the Fire Temple boss arena is climbable, and clinging to it can immediately cancel certain phases of the Volvagia boss fight
    - Morpha can be defeated without using the Hookshot. Using the spin attack can let you reach the core as it hops around, and deal significant damage.
    - Stunning Tektites standing on water, in a room where the water can be lowered, and proceeding to lower said water before the stunning effect fades; will result in the Tektites floating in midair.
    - Hookshotting the "sensitive parts" of the Goddess statues inside the Spirit temple can hurt you. (They do look pretty sharp)
    - Technically only Barinade, Volvagia and Twinrova require the use of the dungeon item found in their respective dungeon/Temple.

    For #6, it's actually possible to use the cucco to jump the gate at the entrance to Gerudo Valley. The two patrolling Gerudo will still capture you like the patrolling Gerudo in Gerudo Fortress, so you have to be careful. Also, if you do not have the hookshot in your inventory, they will toss you into the river below the bridge instead of their dungeon room. And as far as the quicksand that Young Link can't make it past, it's possible going forwards if you go to the left edge of the quicksand and walk backwards across. Just have to make sure you're ready to sidehop at the end so you don't void out by touching the loading zone. All that to say, it might actually be possible to do the same thing in reverse, I've never actually tried.

    I love all of your videos, always discovering something new! Here's something I figured out on a playthrough a few days ago: Iron Knuckles have a different stagger animation if you hit them with a light arrow after you knock their armor off. Obviously this can only be seen on the ones in Ganon's Castle, but I thought it was pretty cool!

    Young link can get over the sand river with the same backwalk technique that you can use for adult link, granted there is usually not much to do if you go in that way but it might sometimes be needed in randomizers if you get out of the fortress ground with a song or something.

    If I had to guess, the reason Power Crouch Stab doesn't affect the totem blocks is because that's the only use of the Megaton Hammer where it counts which direction you face (so the block flies out in the same direction). All the others just hit things downward. Maybe the PCS doesn't have a direction property?

    there's a video on that last one. about the scratch in the tree. he basically says the boss of the water temple in twilight Princess was the deity of that temple and the one you fight in OOT (I forget it's name, it's been a decade) battled the twilight princess boss for control of the temple and the tree was damaged in the process. at first he says that the twilight princess boss was huge and would destroy the OOT boss and do more than scratch the tree but then takes into consideration that those games are centuries apart. so in OOT he would've still been a puppy basically. see if you can find it, really cool stuff.

    This video is very cool! The others in the series are as well. For the one about the gravestone in the small island at Lake Hylia: I have little doubt that some very dedicated Zelda fan who knows the Hylian alphabet (the one specifically in OoT, there is more than one Hylian alphabet) has taken a screenshot of the gravestone and enhanced the picture to be able to read it better and tell the rest of us OoT fans. It seems like it would be an article on Fandom. Or should be an article!

I don’t know something about the Hero of Time always felt like the main link even if he wasn’t the original, but his voice actors were so iconic and the music was so simple and used simple soundfonts yet it is so iconic and better then the new Zelda tracks that use real orchestral instruments
