I like the idea behind that siphon. Pretty cool. But damn, a shop vac would've had that cleared out in 30 seconds. I carry around that one that snaps right on top of a home depot bucket. Works great.

Carrier AC outside unit compressor and fan not working. I changed the capacitor, which I had done several times before, as it was swollen so probably bad or soon to be bad. Fan started working but not compressor. Watched your video and the part about the "contactor". I realized my system has been very noisy this summer which you mentioned as a symptom. I didn't have another contactor but I did the usual home fix (hit it with a screwdriver, pushed the relay in and out several times). Fired right up! Thank you!!

Suggestion: get some 10mm by 3mm thick neodymium magnets (they are cheap) and superglue three of them to the bottom of that flange. That will hold down the flange to the steel pan and it won't tip over so easily. Put the magnets between the existing "bumps" so it won't raise the flange, but hold it down to the pan.

Most folks do not know what Freon is, they think its a coolant, so wrong, Freon is simply a Trade name just like Kleenex or Coca- Cola This system uses R 410A refrigerant, its a azeotropic mixture of difluoromethane and pentafluoroethane that is used as a refrigerant in air conditioning applications.

Steve you have to give the thermostat time to boot up (power up). It may update or need to sort things out. If you tap or run the ring around that can mess it up during boot time. I think they fixed that in a firmware update though. Just give them time is all. Cheers.

That condenser is exactly like mine, but it’s a 2 1/2 ton condenser. The model number had a 30 in it. Mine has a 48 and is a 4 ton unit (12k btu*4=48. Also I don’t understand all the hate on Nest. I’ve had Nest thermostats since 2011 (Gen 1 on my old HVAC and Gen 2 on my heat pump) and they’ve never failed me. It does exactly what I program it to do.

Not sure why you didnt pull the drain off of the primary to begin with...that was a waste of a CO2 cartridge after the P-trap...and time. Shop vac would clear the secondary drain a lot faster. Before you pulled the old contactor, why didnt you check low voltage first? Could have shown you another problem like maybe only getting 12 volts or around about.

Not sure how the nest stay handle's the emergency heat function. Other stars have switch selection to move into that mode. Check out the manufacturers web site for your answer. As you know, this function is used when the outside temperature condition is below the ability for the heat pump to operate.

Old people don't like those Nest thermostats. One of my retired relatives called me and told me that she wanted a new thermostat and asked my opinion. For some reason, she was convinced that a new thermostat would save her money. I sent her a link to a Honeywell thermostat at Wal-Mart for $16. I told her to "buy that one". She said "OK". I went over to her house and she handed me a $249 Nest thermostat. She told me that everybody online recommended that thermostat. I just shook my head and installed the Nest and left. I went to visit her about three weeks later and saw that there was a new Honeywell thermostat on the wall. She didn't like the Nest so she paid an A/C tech to install the new thermostat. I asked her what happened to the Nest? She said she didn't know what happened to it. I guess the A/C tech got a brand new Nest for free?
