      Hey Lex, I have a weird one for you. I was in my room and watching some videos and then I get a weird burning smell from the air ducts in the air ducts from the main hall where the filter is, the bed rooms and living room where the ac ducts are and started smelling a burning rubber or medal smell it was something I never smelled before. About half a minute later all the house alarms started going off and when fire fighters came to find the cause they noticed the fan was running different then usual, We had a Brothers Technician come out, It's a Carrier unit and couldn't recreate the situation. We found the out door unit had a cap going so I am going to replace it. If it's the Fan or Motor, I am not going to mess with it as it's out of my expertise. But I wanted to get your opinion on what you think it could be. The Fire Crew noticed the fan was abnormal and the tech noticed it was different then usual but didn't deem it unsafe and it didn't re occur. Thank you in advance Lex Vance. Also don't forget to leave some skids on the next power slide ;)

      @@Mayu_Listen_to_my_Song Yes, sounds like the fan motor got hot and was cooking. Time to replace it. I hope all works out for you!

    • @Mayu_Listen_to_my_Song
      @Mayu_Listen_to_my_Song 2 года назад

      @@LexVance Thank you Lex, Much appreciated. So to follow up, apparently it wasn't the unit that was melting. Originally we thought it had been the furnace fan motor or fan itself was cooking. But the Tech couldn't find any signs of it. When the fire fighters noticed the breaker on the panel was warm but NOT hot, they were puzzled as there had been no signs of crisp on the inside or outside unit. The out door unit's cap may be going bad but it has not caused a issue and the fan outside lags because of it but eventually gets up to speed without issue. I am going to replace the cap after the part comes in. So this morning coming home from work, my Nana is washing dishes from yesterdays dinner and found that a rubber pot handle had gotten charred. I didn't notice till after the fire fighters got here I had subconsciously turned off the stove burners on both sides after all the alarms went off without thinking and as I am on the phone and the minute the FD starts pulling up, all the alarms stopped going off and I didn't think much of it at the time but I noticed it and was confused at first but focused. The unit is two years old but man that was something.

    Well Lex I’m a couple weeks into working at the hotel. I can say that yes no on call is nice. And not being supervised (2nd shift) is also nice. Just do the work and go home… I will say that I’m not liking it so far because of how boring it is. At apartments you can walk around outside in beautiful environments and decorated apartments. Hotels it’s the same rooms over and over again. Think I may actually end up going to apartments but I’ll keep you updated lol.

    Hey Lex, thanks for an awesome video! This is random and I’m sure you’re happy where you’re at but have you considered working in hotels? The medium to high end ones pay upwards of $20/hr plus maintenance is typically around the clock so all shifts are available and a large majority of hotels are no on call (this was all I needed to hear. No on call rocks) Plus the more amenities the more perks. Such as the ones that serve food typically offer free delicious food/drinks to the staff everyday. Something to consider. Plus Ptacs are a piece of cake vs split units. And no over furnishing like washer/dryers in each room or whatnot. I see a lot of the guys who switch to hotels don’t switch back. Good luck buddy! Nows definitely the time Indeed is full of them. That being said I’ve only worked hotels for a short while. I’m curious how I am going to like the scenery vs apartments. Not being outside much is great temperature-wise but being outside is kinda nice in its own way. Guess we shall see!

    • @LexVance
      @LexVance  2 года назад

      Right on. Keep me posted on your journey Chris!

    • @chrissmith6947
      @chrissmith6947 2 года назад

      Will do! Good money and no on call but man I’m already starting to miss the scenery. Seeing the exact (or nearly exact) hotel rooms is depressing vs. decorated apartments. Plus it’s a different crowd. People there for work and travel vs people who are happy and relaxing at home (apartment). Definitely an adjustment. I’ll keep you updated! It’s also interesting to have more staff to talk to. For example at the hotel there is a woman who literally works in this little gift shop. Just by herself in this tiny little gift shop in the corner of the hotel. What an interesting lifestyle. Wake up and go to work in the tiny gift shop. Don’t think I could do that but it definitely makes for some interesting characters. Anyhow I can ramble all day. I’ll keep ya updated!

    My Carrier is 4 years old, and compressor was replaced after 1 year. 3 years later I'm told it has gone again, and no longer under warranty, so they want to replace the entire unit. The previous unit had lots of problems, too. We have a AC-specific surge suppressor on it, and it was not tripped. Why would we have so many issues with these units? Is there another brand we should get, or some infrastructure we can put in place to fix the problem?

    • @LexVance
      @LexVance  2 месяца назад

      If the equipment isn't installed cleanly and correctly, lots of issues will happen. They're supposed to flow nitrogen while brazing the copper lines. If not, the copper will oxidize on the inside and once it starts corroding it will damage equipment. Also, things aren't made with quality anymore. Trane is a great brand. However, if installed incorrectly it will not last 10 years. Thank you so much for watching!

      Most residential & small commercial compressors are hermetic! (A sealed dome compressor) …. Some large systems are SEMI-HERMETIC like CARLYLE COMPRESSORS!
      Where I go to church we have two 15 ton split systems that are Carrier (semi-herm) units! Took over 50 lbs R22 refrig to top one off one day! Had to replace outdoor after some dumb behind tried to steal the outdoor coil!
      Jus learn residential you separate the common wire terminal(usually black) on the motors from the run & start terminals on the contactors ! The contactor common capacitor side & the fan motor common wire do not go on the same side!!! I had a guy trying to do ac call me up…. And he wired wrong way & capacitor blew up on him!?!?! Prob ruined compressor too! When you’re learning pay attention to how capacitors & compressors are wired up! The compressor is the heart of the AC/Heat pump!

    I have had several carriers go down at the property I'm at now recently. I'm not impressed.

    Those carriers come with a crap capacitor doesn’t even give you a warning when it goes. Titan hd, MARs and trade pro is the way to go.

      ICP just be putting any ol thing on those condensers 🤣 I installed one for a friend over the summer and now I’m dreading the day he’s gonna call about his new system being a piece a crap before a year is even up 😂.

    Well, I watched this video after discovering ice buildup on the indoor unit coil.

      If the fan is working inside, that usually means it's low on Freon/refrigerant. Thank you so much for watching Weston!

      @@LexVance Well, Only if we could find out where the refrigerant is leaking out.

      @@westonhuffman7908 Yep, that's the hard part. Squirt soap bubbles on all the welded joints. If you can't find it on any joints then it's usually in the air handlers coil. Then it needs to be replaced.

    That's bad install of those new units. Damn shame that most don't take pride in their work. And most owners don't want their guys to "waste" time on installing and starting up new units correctly

    I Love how easy this ruclips.net/user/postUgkxvAj3godqGAIP5rApM1laH767JGtPG1-h carrier is to adjust from my friend to me taking turns holding the baby! It provides great support on my back too! This has definitely made shopping easier! I always get asked where I get it too!
