They don't make em like they used to, that's for sure.... 40 year old AC unit still rockin'. My grandparents had an old Sears AC unit at their house that pre-dated me, so it was easily from the mid to late 70's - it was still working fine when they sold the house in 2011. Good luck getting any newer unit to last that long.
On the Gulf Coast they eat you out or house and home but up in Maine and a couple of other places and some people don’t use it much so they have a different perspective.
Speck Ulator bullshit. Anywhere you use it you will be throwing money out the window. Much cheaper to buy a new unit. End of discussion. Stop trolling.

I worked on an old Sears condensing unit circa late 1970's a few weeks ago. The homeowner just wanted maintenance done. Amazingly, it still has the original capacitors, compressor, and condenser fan motor. The contactor was replaced at some time though. I'm surprised it's lasted this long, especially out here in Arizona.

That looks like the Heil-Quaker unit Sears sold in the 70s. Mine lasted from 1973 and was still running in 2005 when I sold the house The only problem it ever had was the 2 speed fan control which I replaced with a jumper wire.

It's a venting system, not AC/heat, and the clogged filters make it noisy as heck, especially outside near the air intake/outlet. Not nice if you want to sit in the garden or keep a window open!
New 4 microfarad fan motor run capacitor did the trick for my 45 year old Sears central air con. Changed the dual 20/15 microfarad compressor capacitor while I was at along with cleaning & snugging up all connections. Both were the Battleship Grey originals from 1976.
