Dodge Jeep Chrysler RAM in Major Trouble? Lot's are Overflowing!

  • I recently visited my local Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, RAM dealership to look closely at how much inventory they had on hand. With more research, I was able to determine that Stellantis vehicles are some of the slowest selling vehicles on the market. 8 out of the top 10 were Stellantis built cars and it was obvious when you look at just how much inventory they have on hand.

Wanted to test drive a Charger srt at my local dealership. Nope, not unless I actually buy it. I looked at them and said, I’m 56 years old, unbelievable credit and I pulled up in a fully paid for Yukon. It’s not like I’m a teenager going to rod on the thing, I just won’t buy something I can’t see if I like first. I even offered to let them come along, nope. That was 6 months ago and they have called me 4 times offering to let me test drive it now. I will never forget how I was treated and am perfectly fine with the old Yukon.

You might want to reconsider if you’re truly serious about buying a Charger. After watching this video and hearing how your local dealer has been repeatedly calling you, they might now be willing to offer you a good price. Don’t let the indignation get between you and the car you want. It sounds like you could be in a very leveraged position to get a good deal.

Prices jumped too quickly. When you think of the dodge power dollar days back in late 2020 to early 2021 when you could get a base hellcat for sub 60k, now a scat pack is at/above that range just a few years later?!?
For too many of us, those cars went from a “yeah I can swing that” to “nah, I legitimately can’t afford it”. And it’s not just the car prices that jumped, so did insurance, property taxes, groceries, utilities. So the income I could have comfortably used to buy a $60k hellcat 3 years ago, now even if the car prices stayed the same I’d have to seriously think if it’s still worth it or not. And I know I’m not alone in that.

And now they are stuck with thousands of cars and trucks they can not sell because they are priced too high.

    • @TheDonRamirez

To be honest the buyers are truly at fault for signing & buying the over priced cars to begin with ! They wouldn’t have put a 10k mark up if the people weren’t trying to buy the cars. Supply & demand plays a huge role into the pricing too. Basic economics now they’re just getting to keep their lots full with cars that won’t sell. Many cars will have to be sold for way less since they need to play their floor fees & keep their units moving. At the end of the day with patience you can snag a good deal just keep playing the waiting game sooner or later they’ll budge ! If no one buys then they’re enticed to lower prices for any buyer at that point. 😅

Back in 2010 it would take 10 years, or more, for car and truck prices to increase 40%, but the car companies have increased prices almost 40% in the last 2 years or so, it is ridiculous.
They got greedy, and they decided to not make cheaper cars and trucks any more. They decided to make mostly higher priced models with all the options to make increased profits, and they made the big mistake of thinking everyone would pay those ridiculous prices.
They were wrong, now a lot of Americans are refusing to pay $70k, or more for a truck, etc. So all these car dealerships are stuck with them, and nobody is buying them. I would not pay more than $40k for a truck if my life depended on it. They screwed up, and now they are stuck with $70k, $80k, and $90k boat anchors.

After watching them price gouge, discontinue their best selling models, the cars we want, and force us to buy vehicles we have stated loudly that we do not want, (say electric), they can go pound sand. And I guess I am not the only one who feels that way. Look at the sales lots overflowing with overpriced vehicles that have been sitting there for a year in some cases. They must drop prices on them all by at least $20000 and then start bargaining from there if they ever expect to sell them. We are going to trade our 2019 Rubicon for a Kia Sportage soon. Never in my life have expected to say that! And then there is this, I would not buy CJDR now because I fear they wont be around to service them in just a few short years.

That is the biggest problem with every car dealership right now all across the country.
The cars went from 20k$ base models to 40k$ base models in 10 years. Plus you have banks increasing the interest rates and making people pay monthly payments of 600-900$ a month payments and none of it is actually based on one’s credit score anymore, this is just the average monthly payment price tags.
No one can afford this with the current inflation and economy.
I bought my first new car in 2014, it was a Chevy Cruze LT with a six speed manual transmission 17k$ car 250$ a month it only had the 5 test drive miles I put on it to. They want 30k$ for the same car and a monthly payment of 600$ a month. I had also got a slightly used 2014 dodge challenger sxt 29k$ car at the time and monthly payment was only 350$ a month, now that same car is around 45-50k$ with a monthly payment of 700+$.
The car market is not sustainable right now due to the prices and bankers being greedy.
If you look back in time at similar models back in the 60’s and 70’s you will see that cars only cost about 3-5k$.
The housing market is even worse than the car market. I think it comes down to the bankers just being greedy and the fact that the federal government increased the minimum wage and all businesses had to comply.

There is a reason Crysler has had 4 owners in the last 20 years. They have the worst plants with the worst workers. I worked for an automotive parts manufacturer in the metro Detroit area. I have been to dozens of the "Big Three" plants in many states so I know what I am talking about. I am not bashing every employee as every plant has a few good ones but as a whole Chrysler has the fewest by a large margin.
They make the worst automatic transmissions. (making it over 100k is a milestone)
They source the lowest priced parts, from low quality manufacturers to build their products. They have the worst quality control programs and are years behind in plant layout, 5s and lean manufacturing.
The Hemi's motors with their lifters at an almost 90-degree angle have poor oil lubrication / oil starvation and eat the needle bearings and then the cams.
The only Thing Chrysler has that could be sold to another manufacturer is the Jeep Wrangler. And most likely will be the only thing left in the near future to be sold off.
I kind of hate to type this as it would have affected a lot of people's lives, but the Government should have let Chrysler go under in 1980 or in 2008. It would have made for a stronger Ford and G.M. Instead, they were bailed out and look where they are at now!
They are the Titanic of American automobile makers. Daimler tried to save the ship, then Cerberus then Fiat and now Fiat and Peugeot. Who will be the next to fail? I think no one will. Lower the remaining lifeboats and sell Jeep (Wrangler).
This may be a hard read for all the Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep /Ram fanboys, but it is the truth.
And just so people do not think I am just a Chrysler hater I am not. I Own a 2013 Jeep Wrangler as my former daily driver and now an off-road toy. I also own a 2021 Challenger wide body scat pack shaker that is my summer fun toy.
I just call things as they are, and Chrysler is on life support and most in the industry know it!

The show room was packed to the walls with Jeeps, Chargers, Challengers and Durangos - - the lot looked just like the one Racer X showed. I walked around for 10 minutes reading prices and not one salesperson asked me if they could help me. I asked if they had a Hornet I could look at and the guy pointed to the lot (it was 23 F with a 10 mph wind). I said aren't they locked? He said yes and looked immediately back to his computer screen never offered to help -- I was taking up too much of his time I guess. They can all get chucked as far as I'm concerned. Until the last month or so I was thinking I might replace my 5th Jeep GC with a Hornet GLH maybe? Now it looks like 65 years of driving Plymouth, Chrysler, Dodge and Jeeps ends in 2025. Banking risk management cut back lending due to the housing bubble back then much like they are cutting back due to the repo crisis and upside down buyer crisis going on right now. Similar to current Dodge.... Pontiac's G8,GTO,GrandPrix etc... were marketed to younger enthusiasts. Their buyer demographic was highly dependent on financing w/ minimal $$$ down. This is what happens when the ability to get financed dries up for lower tier credit scores.

What’s less amusing is that my ‘22 WBSP charger has lost $20K in value in just 16 month of ownership according to KBB and Credit Karma. I give you a PRIME EXAMPLE of why FCA is in trouble financially.
In 2007, Chrysler offered a LIFETIME warranty on their products sold after June 2007. I bought a Jeep Liberty, still own it in 2024 because of that warranty. In October 2022 (15 months ago), the transmission went out, took it to the dealer, the estimate was between 9 and 11k as it needed Transmission, cooler, convertor and front and rear drive shafts.
I offered to take the 9-11K trade in on a new Jeep and they could get the liability off the road. THEY DECLINED, instead did all the work and I paid not a single cent. January 30 2024, transmission went again, this time 7,900 (trans, cooler and convertor), I picked it up a week ago, another new transmission installed, cost me nothing. My jeep currently has a book value of 2300 dollars. FCA dumped 16 grand into it in 15 months. Get that, they could have sold me a new jeep at a discount, and disposed of the liability, instead decided to keep the liability.........now I have a connecting rod bearing singing. The jeep I offered to buy was a cheap 38k budget special, NOW if they have to install a long block, they will be well over 25 grand into my 2300 dollar jeep, when they could have simply sold me a new one at discount. HOWS THAT FOR FCA STUPIDITY?
Who else has attended their 5 year inspections and kept their lifetime warranty active? Im now two transmissions, two convertors, two coolers, two driveshafts, one half shaft and three water pumps into the lifetime warranty. One deck, a new long block! NOW, ILL NEVER GET RID OF THIS JEEP!!!

Dodges appeal has always been price for what you got. I have had (and still have) many dodge/Jeep/ram vehicles. They jacked the price up so much that they have priced themselves out of the market. Cars like Hellcats are a 2nd vehicle for many people. With inflated prices and crazy markups it’s just not attainable for the average person. I would love one right now, but I can’t justify the cost.
In addition, those of us who have purchased vehicles in the last couple of years have paid way too much for them that theres no fun money left over. Dealers and manufacturers did this to themselves. I would love another Wrangler. The last loaded Rubicon I purchased in 2018 was 42K. You can’t even get a Willys for 42K now. Sad days we live in.
