VGG on a Tuesday? I’ll be dipped!
Couldn’t click fast enough
I had to check and see what day it was today, I was pretty confused for a second 😂
I can't believe it, I have to, I'm lookin right at it. 😮
Can't believe it. But I got to cause I'm looking right at it!!
A guy doesn't mind a Tuesday upload
Only Derek can make an hour long video about spray bombing an 80s Jeep be the most interesting content of the day on the whole internet. Never change!
Even the ag1 commercial was good 😂
I have an old Toyota truck that I'm about to rattle can rebuild with grey primar. Derrick you just motivated me to quit procrastinating and get busy on that project
I think 🤔 it will look 👀 better painted you have a good day 😮
Every car guy needs a Jessica in his life. She knows stuff.
I have a Jessica in my life and her name is Jessica she’s great
I agree 💕 he's a lucky man! 🤔💕
I think it was awfully considerate of Caprice to do quality assurance and leave her signature in support of your efforts to do a great job. Always entertaining and fun to watch. Thank you!
An hour of VGG on a Tuesday? What did we do to deserve this.
@ViolentDetour - I checked into this out of curiosity and, as it happens, all of us VGG subscribers are *TOTALLY AWESOME* and we deserved this :P
An HOUR, its 1am and I was just about to go to bed..... looks like I may be tired tomorrow....
😂😂😂 my thoughts exactly
Looking good!
Right?!
Would love to see Derek interviewed by Mike Rowe and his Mike Rowe Works foundation. We need more young people to understand that a 4 year degree isn't the only option and Derek would be a great ambassador for that cause. VGG is one awesome channel for a whole multitude of reasons. You can watch for tech tips or just watch to see a great guy having healthy relationships with his little humans and the boss.
Well the labor market will work itself out, Derek is a bit of an outlier. Not every blue collar worker becomes a RUclips "influencer". The reality is every blue collar worker out there wishes better for their kids. Not one guy I work with says "I hope my kids end up here". Many of my colleagues have had hip and or knee replacements and most of us are, or will be, deaf. So what you see here isn't representative of the reality of blue collar work.
I’d love to see him on Joe Rogan
Dead platform @@mrnoname8499
The positive reinforcement and uplift is refreshing! This is what our governments should actually engage in rather than the subterfuge and lying like we see now! Derek for President!!! Just joking!! I would much rather have him doing what he is doing. Great comment we have so much un-realised potential!
I became a blue collar worker after high school and make more than the ones that went to college. I don't kill myself either
Jeep turned out pretty darn good. I am convinced, Derek, that you enjoy making the videos as much as we enjoy watching them! As always, thanks for some clean and informative entertainment.
I love the time lapse of the cat following Jessica around 😂
Derek you are a national treasure.
Calm down
Thanks so much!
@@ViceGripGarage that actually took a guy down a rodent hole. Have you ever looked at a list of actual national treasures? Not what feller expected at all. Very interesting.
You are definitely loved. By my family especially. We are Not far. We are in Chattanooga. Originally a Detroit native. Sometimes we come across rude. We really mean nothing. You have personally inspired My son and I to work on Grandpa's car. Thanks for that. Take care
✅️ True.
80s graphics are awesome. It gives it a lot of character.
I was sad to see the graphics go... I totally understand its not their Jam! I'm now inspired to find my own RAD 80's/90's "I want my MTV" style Wrangler!
Yeah they shouldn't have removed that. It gave the vehicle personality instead of plain black and dreary like everything else these days. Ended up screwing up the paint too.
Agreed. The graphics were cool!
yes, definitely looked good with those graphics!
Absolutely, if you are a male hairstylist from the 80's..
sign guy here! when you have left over adhesive spots you can use the decal you just pulled off to remove them quickly. Use the sticky side of the decal and stick it back on the spot of glue and snap it off at a sharp angle almost parallel to the surface. Should take the glue spot with it. quick and easy way without chemicals to remove adhesive spots.
Or Goo Begone. Not sure if you have it in he US but if available it works wonders on jobs like this
@@dennispalmer6007 We have goo gone in the US
I love how he describes the cat walking all over the still wet paint at 45:07. The little dance is pretty funny! :D
It’s a wonderful thing watching these projects become a family affair.
DARN…. I actually liked the 80s MTV look. Those graphics were sweeeeet!!!
Me too!
Liked them, pretty sure there's a matching jogging suit 😅. The rattle can paint looks awesome though 🎉.
The 80's jeep Wrangler callback makes me think of Hound (the transformer), but that's an olive green with yellow line trim that evokes military rank bars.
The other obvious direction to go is red lines for the A-Team look, but I doubt the missus will go for it. 😅
I did, too. Those 80's graphics were nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it's about time for that style to start coming back around again.
Me too! Looks good his way also
I am watching this video with my husband and we are BLOWN AWAY and AMAZED how beauitful the Jeep turned out!! Great job Derick and Jessica❤
Love it when you get Jessica and the kids involved on your projects, that what makes VGG my favorite show.
A little tip using aerosol , have a rag in your other hand with a little lacquer thinner on it and periodically wipe the tip and that will eliminate possible build up that causes your drops . On a side note, thanks for all the videos that I have enjoyed immensely over the last 3 years about when I was lucky enough to come across this gem of a show.
Good tip. Thanks
@@klodoen1 You are very welcome .
Exacadaccally... what I was thinkin the whole time he was talkin about it!! Good tip!! Cheers!!
Maybe shake the can more while using it.
Cool young dude....well behaves and shows respect.. A+++.your most important project.
Congratulations to Little Grip hitting 100,000 subscribers. 🎈🎈🎈🎊❤️
*Pro tip for using rattle cans:* The biggest drawback of rattle cans is the tendency to "orange peel". An easy cheat to greatly minimize this is *_soak the cans in hot water_* before use. This will really help reduce the orange peel effect as well as helps keep the nozzle from clogging/spitting so easily. For obvious reasons make sure you dry the cans with a towel so you don't drip water on your surface.
While this helps a lot with improving results with paint, it makes a _massive_ difference with thicker coatings like primer and Plasti Dip. Try it just once and you'll never use room temperature rattle cans again. Especially if it's cold when you're spray painting.
Found this tip in my model car magazines. Didn't help me any :(
@@davidcooper8797 Then it's not mixed properly or straight up bad paint/bad nozzle. I've been doing it for decades and it works, but it's not going to magically fix a garbage can of paint.
@@zodwraith5745 i don't know man, it's been Ike 30 years
Dang I wish I would have known this 2 days ago, I just got done rattle canning some Jeep half doors, I've definitly got some orange peel in the clear going on, they look great otherwise lol
@@davidcooper8797 Not everyone is good at spray painting to be fair. I've applied hundreds of gallons of lacquer so I'm more experienced than most on knowing exactly how heavy to spray it and how much to overlap.
I love that you are able to include the family! Nothing more important!
Derek, if you just poke the air filter on the air compressor through the wall the shop will be way quieter, all the noise is generated from the air intake pipe. Did that in a shop I worked in, extended the intake pipe, hole saw through the wall and put the air filter outside, way better!!
poke a hole!
I like how your better half is inspecting the workshop in the background. My wife on the few occasions she ventured in to the garage was shocked to find I had a motor bike. Had it three years before she found it.
Can’t hide nothin
Jessica is a natural on camera! I really like when she explains what she is doing, and how she is going to complete the task at hand.
Same! She's like a professional.
Derrick and Jessica, you make a wonderful team. God bless you and your family and Loved ones 🙏🙏🙏.
DOUBLE BONUS!!!
A Tuesday episode AND Jessica in the shop keepin’ a fella busy on “her” new rig…Win!
And ‘Moves Like…Sasquatch!!’
To boot…🤪🤪🤪
i bet derek knew where the heat gun was the whole time! lol,,,,
The cat doing what cats do is absolutely hilarious, not just once but twice. Derek should've learned the first time.
Cats are the great hamperer... I think that's a word
I watched a pro painter paint a airplane in a hangar years ago.
His dust secret was spray on a wet floor.
His finish was Mustang Poppy Orange.
Spectacular finish. Just hose the floor, no mo dust.
As always .. the best part of my week hanging with you through a project.
Now here in Australia I'm not a jeep guy, but we do store body parts. If you split a few pool noodles and place over the bottom and tops of your doors etc before storage you can save a lot of damage to your paint..
A blind man galloping past on a horse on a moonlit night will never know the difference
😅
Hahaha, I had to do a double take on "we do body parts". Thanks for the giggles!
Derek nice to see Jessica helping you.
Thanks to Jessica removing the "80s MTV vibe stripes" I no longer feel the need to listen to this Bananarama cassette!
She's great in the garage!
❤ We Love Seeing Jessica…
“Tag Along” on the Adventures!!!👍
@@wes11bravo I was hoping the strips were going to go too.........
We've seen their boys, she does good work.
I knew a professional graffiti artist who swore by letting a bunch of air out of the cheap paint cans before shooting. It reduced the amount of extra paint going everywhere and helped lay nice flat layers. Turn the can over and let air out for 30-40 seconds depending on brand.
Love the straight black ! Doing other things with a jeep can become a life long rabbit hole. Something to keep in mind! It can be addictive .
Just a suggestion, use some truck bed liner for the bottom of the doors. It'll cover the spots and it will help when the doors are set on the ground in the future. 👌
I hate how it looks when the rust starts to eat through bed liner. Paint is much more forgiving to repair later.
I liked those decals!
Nice work Derek as always! Please keep a fella's lungs healthy by wearing a respirator when painting and clearing as there are some harmful chemicals involved that over time can take their toll.
I think it is really cool when you and Jessica work together. Finish the rattle can on the doors and call it done
5:42 those lil thingies actually help a lot with preventing mud from flinging all up your doors and in your windows, I dont have em on my YJ but I wish I did sometimes lol. The mud splash without em is crazy
Hang on to that jeep it'll serve you for life
AND I AIN'T KIDDING!
You have to learn the JEEP wave also Derek
Ironically I just finished watching this week's episode of Coffee Walk. Reckon Derek and Jessica could have had Dennis Collins make a guest appearance. Absolutely love Jessica. Having a wife that shares a common interest is a real blessing. You're a lucky man Derek Bieri.
For a basketcase, I love the way this turned out. In fact, I would say this is probably my favorite video of yours to date, because it really did turn into a daily driver. Love it. I'd finish up the doors and do general upkeep and cosmetics, otherwise I wouldn't touch it. It's perfect. Maybe do a soft top?
I never grew up with parents teaching me things in the garage. Derek is like my internet dad teaching me how to do basic automotive things, which I never got. Thanks for all your efforts on these videos. I genuinely learn something every time I watch.
Unexpected surprise, I love it! My 6 year old will be thrilled, she's used to waiting till Friday to watch "silly Derek and the cool cars" with dad. Might have to do half tonight and half tomorrow because it's a school night, but still cool nonetheless. Thanks for always keeping it interesting man. Always love your videos no matter what you're working on, keep doing what you do, brother!
That is awesome!
I need to make it known to a guy that i am completely hooked on your videos. I love the way you go about the job and your funny ways, the relationships with your family are a joy to watch lil Bentley is a stand up lad and seems to be happily following in your footsteps brilliant to witness. Imo this is definitely one the top 5 go to channels on RUclips and one of my personal favourites. Thanks for the entertainment Derek & VGG family
I have to be honest when you 1st came out I wasn't a fan I came back across your channel again and I have been hooked ever since man it's so bad ass to see you include your whole family in your video's it's so cool watching your boys learn from you and your wife yall are great examples of how parenting done right great job yall 💪💪💪👏👏👏
That jeep looks AMAZING! I'm loving it! It was cool to see Mrs. Vice Grip out working along side a fella too. It's awesome that you have the whole family involved! Anywho, the jeep looks great! Can't wait to see what you do with it in the future!
Jessica’s gonna love mommin’ & wheelin’ this Jeep around. it’s perfect for her & she’s gonna dig it.
I took the doors off yesterday and enjoyed the nice day, cruising it around 😎

Great work to you both! I’d love to see the doors done with the same black.

Derek kills me 😂 says he doesnt really care for a rig then always buffs her down for hours to take it in ta town!
Just what I needed to see. I have a 95 F150 , same CLEAR COAT problem,, Thanks ! ✔️
5x7 LED's for the headlights. Philips makes a decent LED sealed beam. Nice progress on your YJ!
The small black dot on the top of an aerosol can, located under the spray tip, indicates the direction of the can's internal dip tube. To use the spray paint until the can is empty, you can:
Rotate the spray tip so it lines up with the dot
Tilt the can slightly so the dot faces down
Point the nozzle toward the dot
There is a small black mark near the top of the canister right under the spray tip. The spot corresponds to the direction at which the dip tube inside the can is pointed. Rotate the spray tip to align with the black mark on the can top and tilt it slightly so that the mark faces downward.
The dot marks the bottom of the can's curved straw, which runs down the can's edge. When the nozzle is pointed at the dot, the contents flow to the end of the straw, allowing you to use as much of the product as possible.
i think the point of the video is, if you are poor you can do a good job. But once you start getting into the intricate mechanics of a spray paint its time to upgrade to a cheap air compressor with a cheap air spray.
Cool tip, much thanks!
Someone needs to tell him to wear a mask , that 2k stuff is dangerous
@@aminorityofoneI was two states away working, somebody hit my fender, went to the junk yard got a fender for $30 Napa has paint match cans for about the same and a can of clear I was out $100 for everything to match and fixed, should I have bought a compressor, AIR dryers, hoses, paint gun, paint, scales to measure the paint, cups, TAC cloth, primer, primer gun, build a paint booth with heat, lights and filtered air? Or spray it in the driveway? I for one did not know about the marks under the lid and your comment is irrelevant to the topic of a cheap easy fix.
Dude I'm getting a whole education on spray paint in these comments, thanks for this one!
Caprice was making her mark of approval, Derek tested kitty approved❤
Nice to see the Mrs in a video. I watched the previous vid with Bentley helping out. I love the family feel with the videos. Good job!

That chunk -o- black missing on the drivers door is making me cry in the darn mud. It's makin' a man nuts fellers.
Love the show Derek. Jeep looks great...please just rattle can that hunk on the door. I will keep it a secret! Promise! 😅
I love seeing your wife on the videos again. I do understand past issues, but its still nice to see her every now and then.
I have watched since about the beginning of his second year or so. I don't remember him saying anything that happened? I remember her on episodes but just though she might be busy with the little humans. I watched most of the early lives but as they progressed I wasn't able to watch them at the time maybe he said something there...and now it's been forever since they did one. I know on the drag week events she is on them with the family.
@@natevanlandingham1945 I think it was happening during the live mailbag shows. People just don't know how to behave in public.
She's lovely.
@@benhur520 that also might explain why there aren't as many or really any anymore. I do also know that a guy is busier than ever as well and away from home so much more as well.
I believe some Jack wagons said some inappropriate things while they was doing the live mail shows. I honestly don’t blame Derek for not having her on camera. Matt with Demolition Ranch went through the same thing on his channel with his wife. His wife is not on the channel anymore and for good reason. It’s a sad world we live in when a guy can’t show his wife on a video. I only had a few videos with my wife riding in my Mud Boat. I took those videos down. My wife is 10yrs younger than me and turns heads everywhere we go. Not sure how I got so lucky, but I will not have guy making comments about her. They would never do that in front of me.
I also use spray cans for this and have found keeping the can vertical makes it way better so I hang anything I can before starting love your content

I think those decals looked pretty cool on it
Me too. There just ain't much from the 80s that looked cool enough to doll up as an antique. Jeep and pickups might be it.
Me to but his wife doesn’t and that’s all that matters 😂
Looks great! I recently tried out the rustoleum plastic trim paint. That stuff works AMAZINGLY well on plastic trim. It actually finishes looking like new plastic versus spray painted plastic.
Goo-off works great to remove adhesive prior to buffing
I miss the 80's graphics. The nostalgianess makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
If you're gonna use this 2k (2-part) aerosol paint, make sure you *WEAR A RESPIRATOR*
That stuff isn't your typical $4 can of acrylic Krylon paint, it's got chemicals in it that will cause damage if inhaled or ingested. It's nasty stuff.
Oh, and the 2X stuff at your local Walmart is not 2K. Those companies know people will see that label on the can and assume it's the same "professional grade" paint.
I have used the SprayMax 2k clear on several small jobs. It's best to make sure the can is warm, and get yourself a $2 trigger handle if you actually want decent pattern control.
As a painter, seeing him clear without a respirator made me cringe a bit. Not at familiar with rattle can stuff but damn, that clear has a chemical that’ll damage a fellers lungs in a fast way.
@@clintpierce4019 I don't know if the clear he used was urethane-based, but I think the primer was. Most of the canned 2-part stuff has a port on the bottom to inject the hardener, which I didn't see on the clear. But being indoors and painting is always a recipe that involves a respirator.
Perfect timing on this video. Need to do similar process on one of my vehicles. Thanks! Derek!
Looks good!
Seen a Jeep in my area painted with purple Rhino Liner on the body it looked good to
One of my favorite aspects of this channel is how it warms my heart to see Derek and Jessica working together. It’s just fantastic. Cheers and best wishes from Knoxville ❤

Jessica and Derek make an amazing team together because they work so well together. Definitely making some positive improvements on the new Jeep. It's going to look much better!
Once again, love all your content Derek! Thank you!
Hey Derek - coming from an auto detailer, grab you a box of this stuff called "wipe new" to apply to those fenders and mirrors, it restores plastics and makes them shiny for at least a year. Those other products like 'back to black' or any plastic conditioners wear off after a month or so.
I like all the help that the kitty is giving Jessica!
A guy almost fell out of his chair when he saw a Tuesday video! The Jeep looks great! I'll see you at Cleetus and Cars this weekend!
Looks amazing! No graphics and no yellow headlamps, plz! I did the led ones on my YJ and they're awesome!
Thanks for the content once again
That looks really great Derek! Just the right amount of Jeepiness!
Wish you could have left the decals but that hood came out pretty good. Love that the family is all working together to get that old jeep looking and running like new.
I liked it way better with the graphics. 🎨
Love the extra episode!! A bonus for a guy wanting to do a rattle can paint job!!
I bought some LED headlights for my truck. They look like regular sealed beams (not those things that look like they have been assimilated by the Borg) and the bulbs drop in. Fantastic. I was really surprised. Usually you get a lot of useless splatter lighting. These are bright and focused pretty well. Great upgrade for about $70 total.
I take my lil puppy (100 pound, 6 month old Rottweiler) everywhere I go! Jeep and Dogs go together like peas and carrots.
It’s so cool to see you and Jessica working on the rig. My and my wife did that a year ago. We rattle canned the whole rig. Turned out better than I thought.
Love your show never miss one! I pray that you continue to have success.
For a spray paint job I think it turned out very good. Way better then I would have thought. And thanks for making our Tuesday afternoon so much better with a full hour of VGG.
nice work amigo! thanks for the painting tips. I am eventually gonna bring my '89 F-150 back around for my sons first car!
Looks great! Thanks for the education. You always inspire me to get out and work on my stuff instead of worrying about what might go wrong. Just do it!
Great to hear!
I do a lot of spraying on smaller things like RC cars boats and planes
One thing I have learned over the years is if you take your spray paint and put in really warm water shake it a few back and warm water for a bit. I have found that the paint will spread a lot nicer and even.
Good advice. Prep is important. I have sometimes set the cans in the sun, shaking & turning. I also bought a little spray handle, fits over the top of can & prevents the awkwardness of the small tip.
This channel is fun to watch because as long as you are not afraid of work, this is stuff everyone can do in their own garage.
Nice, you make it look so easy! Love the show!
Looks great. Don’t let the shine scare you. I love watching Derek paint stuff. Top tip for using those paint spray cans is to clear the nozzle, by turning the can upside down and a quick squirt. Also great to see your roadworthy rescue on Foxtel here in Australia. As always all the best to Derek, Jessica, and family. 😅
Took the words out of my gray matter. Life is better with midweek VGG AND with Jessica ! Awesome family.
Bleep-bloop: 6 dogs. 3 yellow labs (Nacho, Spicy, and Cheeto), a boxer (Baxter), a terrier mix (RJ) and a lab/border collie mix (Jet), and they go everywhere with me.
Look into decal eraser wheels, they are pretty cheap and eat through vinyl graffics without damaging paint. Makes the job real quick & clean.
I just started watching your video. This is the second one on the JEEP, love the content. Your patience with that Kat is to be commended lol
