@xHarux3 yeah like a peugeot or an alfa? but have you ever owned a hyundai, especially a post 2010 one? they're so bent on beating the japanese and have reach a level now where they might have reached parity in terms of reliability and might have beaten them in some aspects. It's the reason why Im here in this video, I first wanted something like a 208 GTi or an Alfa Giullietta, but now I'd rather put my money on this one
@xHarux3 So why do we compare cars from early 2000's to 2012 to their new line of cars? Hyundai has been scoring very high reliability points with their new cars worldwide. They were probably bad in the past, but they turned things around. They offer more for less nowadays and that warranty is now more of a thing to prove that they do dare to give long warranties for their cars. The current Mercedes C class gen had many transmission issues where they would break every 15 to 20k km's. And such an expensive luxury car brand only has a limited 2 year warranty. Bottomline is: Cars progress very fast thanks to technology. Hyundai cars have become really good for the money. Sure, their hatchbacks still don't have an expensive high quality interior but its functional and the base models are pretty loaded. More bang for buck. Also has proper reliability nowadays.

I am very interested in one of these. More exciting than a GTI, and cheaper and better looking than a Type R. Hyundai found exactly the right niche to slot into this market and I hope it does well.
Don't be mean. At least he isn't one of those kids we would trick in high school auto shop, into thinking that stickers and flame vinyls add HP...probably.
@@joeljeffrey9139 I know. It's some life altering info, ain't it? You'd be surprised how many people actually fell for that though. God, I miss that class. Our auto shop class back in '97-'99 was awesome. I had 3 friends in that class that knew engines really well, like myself, and one of the guys wanted to put a turbocharged B18 motor in his 1987 CRX Si, so we did that, and then had the CRX engine just sitting there, so we built a 4 person go-kart frame in class and on the weekends, and put the CRX motor in it. THAT was a fun little toy! Like I said, it was an awesome class! I'll bet most schools didn't/dont allow students that much freedom to build ridiculous crap like we did.
@@WingedSumac That sounds awesome. I went to a city school (NYC) and we didn't have a shop class, unfortunately. Just learned from what ever my Dad taught me at the time.
The veloster cars are actually extremely well thought out. The entire thing is purposefully engineered. Short wheel base but wide. This is good for rally racing which the veloster was engineered for. Large driver's side door allows big and tall people to have space in a compact car. As well as the fact that it is wide. Only a 1/2 door on the passenger rear for children. That's all children need. Hatchback for trunk space. It doubles as a functional and economical vehicle as well as a rally racer. However I don't think the public got it and just thought it was weird. But the rally racer version looks like a total monster and is definitely one of the best rally cars ever built. People think of it as a weird teenage girl's car and pass it over in favor of the type r, the golf, or the focus. But truthfully this vehicle has way more potential as a race car than any of those vehicles.
"first hot hatchback Hyundai has ever tried to sell in the United States" As a former owner of a Hyundai Tiburon GT I beg to differ. I mean, it wasn't very hot, but it was a pretty warm hatchback.
I really miss the Tiburons, I thought they were really cool-looking cars. Just yesterday, after watching Redline Review's review on this car I was thinking how great it would be if Hyundai built a new, modern one.
@@brian5o Doubt that'll ever become a possibility. Its body style would interfere with the Genesis coupe and international competition is terrible for business.
#fun fact, if you have a left hand drive and a right hand drive and cut it down the middle and stick them together you can have a left or right hand drive 5 door Veloster....mmmmm
ive loved the veloster for so long.there was a guy down street from me had one and it had these massive gaping exhaust tailpipes and yeah it totally caught my eye. i bet this will be super rare in a few years after they sell about 50 cars

@@80s_Boombox_Collector not really 0-60 is more everyday, practical measurement. Gives you the idea of off the line, seat of the pants factor. And better idea of merging and getting on the freeway and passing.
@@showmethedammovie I would disagree, because some cars can reach 60 in 2nd, while others require a shift to 3rd. So the second one might "feel" just as quick in everyday driving, but you had to shift to 3rd at 58 mph. Big deal.
i love the 3 doors. its more comfortable for the driver like a 2 door, but gives better passenger access to the back like a 4 door. theres plenty of other cars that do this, like the rx8 or mini clubman, its nothing to weird.

@@chuckystang Partially granted, but the plastics alone are 1000 times better here than in any Ford Hot Hatch. @@FinnishCarGuys true that and Recaros while the name is great, doesnt make them the best option either. I actually find it difficult to find the perfect seating position in my focus st with them but I blame the interior ergonomics on that one
@@chuckystang Yup, even with good Recaro's it depends on mounting points, steering wheel angles etc. We have a i30N (the Euro-equivalent) review coming up next week as well, it'll be more handling and brand-image focused tho.
Btw, all versions of the Veloster for each market has suspension tailored to that market, so the US version gets more understeer than you'll find in other markets - evidently, they feel that the average US driver wants that push understeer and high-speed stability more than nimble handling. However, you may find that to be somewhat different in other markets - Australia, Europe, etc. where swaybar, damper and spring rates are different to the US version.
I've heard it from a few places, but the one I could recall and find is John Cadogan from autoexpert.com.au (also on youtube at AutoExpertTV) - he's an motoring journalist and car broker in Australia, so this stuff is right up his alley. Here's a link to his vid: ruclips.net/video/1-FNyA4vllI/видео.html -and he suspension part starts at 10.08.

I have been saying it for years, Hyundai is going to start beating Honda and Toyota in another 10 years. This is like the great CRX Hot Hatch that Honda had back in the late 80s! I am loving how good Hyundai is starting to get.
I had a CRX Si, it only had 103hp. I wish it had 275 like this thing.
Acc0rd79 CRX wasn’t really a hot a hatch back then
Except in reliability
hyundai has already beaten honda and toyota in many awards....
Korean cars are the Japanese cars in the US of the 70s
I am very interested in one of these. More exciting than a GTI, and cheaper and better looking than a Type R. Hyundai found exactly the right niche to slot into this market and I hope it does well.

Spot on man.
I am very happy they are bringing a hot hatch to North America, but I would love to get the i30N fastback. Now that's a nice looking car.

Gives the acceleration a 4/10 score
@All_Roads Please can you explain? I get confused too...
0-60 is meaningless anyway, when EV's can beat most. Quarter mile times are a better judge of performance.
Big deal.
@@80s_Boombox_Collector You're disagreeing with him over technicalities, while simultaneously trying to prove you're right over technicalities.

@@chuckystang Partially granted, but the plastics alone are 1000 times better here than in any Ford Hot Hatch. @@FinnishCarGuys true that and Recaros while the name is great, doesnt make them the best option either. I actually find it difficult to find the perfect seating position in my focus st with them but I blame the interior ergonomics on that one

i've always been fond of the veloster since it was first produced
Btw, all versions of the Veloster for each market has suspension tailored to that market, so the US version gets more understeer than you'll find in other markets - evidently, they feel that the average US driver wants that push understeer and high-speed stability more than nimble handling. However, you may find that to be somewhat different in other markets - Australia, Europe, etc. where swaybar, damper and spring rates are different to the US version.

The fake and intensional misfires?
@@PERILEX it has an anti lag system, that backfire is spooling the turbo so unlike most it's not fake.
@@kevinnguyen7677 So It took you just one comment to get personal on me?
Modern cars with ECU-controlled direct-injection run more precise than any mechanical Swiss-watch will be capable of.
A real Backfire would indicate a serious problem and therefore manufacturers program fake Backfires into the ECU to make their cars more striking... and stupid.
The Anti-Lag system is only active in _N Mode_ and this car does generate fake misfires in some of the other modes.
