Hyundai as a brand is one of the greatest comeback stories the automotive industry has ever seen. From making cheap cars to get people around to creating the spectacular Genesis sedan, they have truly stepped up their game in every single way. So what if the Korean brand decided "hey...lets try and completely take down the hot hatch market and make it affordable, fun, and exciting?" That's the brand new Hyundai Veloster N - a car that will make you even question the Honda Civic Type R as the king of front wheel drive. Today we get to drive the SXTH Element Engineering Veloster N equipped with a Pure Turbo upgrade making 340HP to the front wheels! So what's it like driving this Korean hot hatch? Let's go for a drive and find out! Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday,Thursday, and Saturday!

WE ARE BACK BB!
Welcome Back!
Thanks for the Quarantine Content TDIB!!! Love it :D (Idk if I'm still in quarantine though :P )
Let’s gooo review my mustang Gt 2v everyone loves the 2valve
In the uk I was potentially going by the fk8 type r but then I drove the Hyundai i30n (uk version) and I ended up buying it the same day I test drove it 👍🏻
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay🙏🏻
Hyundai and Kia in general have really come a long way in around a decade
Theyre the same company
They were sick of being known as the cheap brand so they dumped like $5 billion into the brand around like 2012 I wanna say?
He sounds stupid? Look at your grammar. You can't even spell stupid properly.
@@DismemberTheAlamo they may have the same ownership but they're 2 different brands... It's not that hard to understand lmao
@@FieldTestedSemenKun - Two different labels, but the same company.
Its like Lamborghini and Audi.
When the quality of one goes up, more often than not the quality of the subsidiaries do as well.
The Veloster N is so under-appreciated. I hope it sticks around for a while and continues to evolve.
It's not underappreciated...it got hyped and then it didn't really deliver everything. Look at the 2020 review by savagegeese because it sums up why it didn't have a lot of staying power. The sad thing is that David ignored that VW has the GTI which puts down a lot more power stock than people think, and with a tune APR has their going from 212/222whp and 258wtq to 288whp and 337wtq. You want more power? Downpipe an intercooler and a intake and you can happily make 308whp and 355wtq. Oh wait you want more? You can pick up a IS38 turbo from the Golf R and bump yourself to 358whp and 363wtq and still not be on a big turbo setup. Want a big turbo? If we stick with APR and what they have been quoting you can jump to 438whp and 408wtq which will make the Veloster N look cute with all it's go fast aesthetics. It would also be mentioned that VW has tons of aftermarket support I can think of 5 tuning companies off the top of my head not to mention companies that make parts. I struggled to find one company with a tune for the Hyundai Veloster turbo.
The gti fanboy has arrived
@@Osprey1994 Savagegeese actually liked the car despite the title. You must be new to his reviews because he lists all the negatives about each car he reviews so that people will know what they're getting into.
And out of all of your tuning and HP talk, it quickly becomes meaningless to me. Especially after I drove a Golf R before ever buying my N last year, there was just this big disconnect between driver and car with the Golf R. N is a much more engaging car to drive. The Golf R was just numb to drive. There was just no feeling to the steering wheel so I had no idea when the front wheels were doing and the shifter is just so bland to use. You may not understand any of this because you have an obsession with dyno numbers but this is something that no tuning shop will ever tell you.
OspreyBravo18 GTI ignored? It’s a video about the Veloster, not the GTI. The Veloster N is a brand new platform. Of course there is room for improvement, and of course you’re not going to find as much aftermarket support. Clearly you didn’t watch the video because there isn’t a lot done to this car in terms of power mods, and it can keep up with most modded GTIs I’m aware of. What a dumb comment.
@@Osprey1994 while the GTI is a nicer car and a more tune-able car for now, stock for stock the Veloster N is a more enjoyable drivers car. In South Korea a guy is pushing 480hp out of his Veloster N. It has potential, just being a new platform it needs time and commitment from the after market world.
Left the house to look at a civic type r came home with a veloster n and I don’t regret it ...
Looks great. Only thing I’d paint those red lines. Atleast on the blue
I got a type r, also looked at the velosters, but I did some research and the type r’s have such a big aftermarket potential, that it pushed me over the edge to spend the extra money, plus the handling
I think the n's are a better representation of a civic type r than the new civic type r
@sowavvy550 I believe the type r's are only 37k I have absolutely no clue where you're getting "50k+". Type R is such a better platform than this hyungay it's nearly laughable 😂
@@leavemetomyself typical Honda fanboy. Not true at all & I've had 4 Hondas previously, this is just as good of a platform. Not saying better, but just as good.
Test drove a WRX, Golf R, Type R, and Veloster N a few months ago. Have been a proud owner of the N ever since. Never thought I'd own a Hyundai tbh. Worth mentioning that the Type R was fantastic and if price wasn't a factor it probably would have been my choice.
How do you think the relatability? Have you driven in the snow as well?
I’m 24 years old and I’ve never seen snow in person 😅
How come you didn’t test drive the STi?
@@Ppareja1976 A few reasons. The dealer I went to (that was near several other dealers with the cars I was considering) didn't have one on hand and it wasn't worth going out of my way to test drive one since there were a few things that kind of ruled it out for me. With any options it was a little out of my preferred price range without getting one older than I would have liked. Also, it's no secret that the sti is dated and pretty lacking in several characteristics. I absolutely love the unequal length header boxer rumble but unless you're someone who's always dreamed of owning one, there are just straight up better cars for the money imo.
@@rustydoorknob5108 When somebody sends some snow over to Florida someday I'll letchu know 🌨️
The Korean car manufacturers have really upped their game, reminds me of how the Japanese cars from the 90's dominated. Good job on Hyundai!
Mtndewgang Yeeesss I have been telling people that for the past two years that Hyundai is where Toyota and Nissan were at in the 90s.
Korea will never have what Japan had, but they are coming out with heavy hitters.
Burrito Sandwich too me Hyundai just need to make a car that is similar power and drivers car wise as the Supra and The GTR and then they will be there.
Ikr it's amazing
@@micahhill4786 no shit man on that one man because we can definitely only hope that they will definitely get too that point in time
Hyundai really outdid themselves with the facelift on the veloster, looks far more aggressive!
It's an all-new generation, not a facelift.
Its really a fun car even the rspec is fun with a big turbo
Looks aggressive.. drives okay. But slower than a tuned R by a mile. And handling in this is horrible my buddy sold his and bought a type R instead
Dope ass car,
@@clintpopham5691 I like the feel of the N MUCH better than the Type R overall. Yes it has less power and even tune for tune will not be as fast in a straight line but the N is better in and especially OUT of corners than the R since it has a better torque band. The Type R is an awesome car but the cheapest dealers are selling for in most places is $5,000 over MSRP. I got my N for $11,000 less bottom line than an R would have been and with a downpipe, intercooler, intake, and tune I'll still be $8500 cheaper than a stock R. For that price difference I could do what 6xthElement has done and do the interior in carbon fiber, the hood, front scoop, lighter wheels, and upgrade the turbo and then it WOULD beat a tuned Type R and still be a good price lol
Also I only pay $65/mo for insurance on the N, you can't say that for an R haha
Honestly I didn't like Kia and Hyundai's at first but ever since my parents brought home a bright red Genesis coupe home, I instantly fell in love. 10 years later, I bought myself a 6 speed 2.0T
2.SLOWWWWW
Wish they kept making the 2.0. Now I want a Genesis G70 2.0T 6 speed manual
CodyDoesIt do it lol I have a 3.3 G70 car is fantastic to drive and the 2.0 is peppy enough around town.
Don’t they have second gear lock out lol?
@@deathmetalpagan Right on my dealership owns a Hyundai Kia one so Ill start there
Hyundai and kia are like that one person who didn't glow up in middle school or high-school and now you're in college and you see her and you're like Holy shit...🔥
This is Laser accurate!
Been seeing these more and more lately... huuuge more respects for these things, especially this BEAST! Changed my mind on the Veloster! Sounds sooo SINISTER too 😈.
Should call it the “Velosteraptor” 🥵
Too bad Hennessy already has rights to the “Velosteraptor”
no... why does everyone go there...
Its a portmanteau of Velocity and Roadster
I have a raptor emblem on the back of my N, in place of the Hyundai emblem.

Too many syllables 🤣😂
This was the most excited I've seen you do a review in a long time. You truly liked the car and it shows!
I pass this car all the time where I live I can’t believe you’re reviewing it!! It always breaks my neck 😂
Having owned both and ST and now a Velsoter N , I can agree with you completely. Both amazing cars. The Velsoter just has that personality like no other. Thanks for sharing!
Just picked up a N with performance pack at the end of June. I absolutely love this car.
Still loving it?

Never in my life a Kia or a Hyundai I don't care how fast it is... It still has a Hyundai badge
@@clintpopham5691 It could be worse, it could be a Vauxhall or Opel badge.
@@clintpopham5691 nobody's forcing you man. I would get the hyundai and kia purely cause of the badge since I have a tendency to avoid mainstream jdm cars.
I work at Hyundai and have owned a lot of fun cool cars but this car puts a bigger smile on my face than any other cards I’ve ever owned. The car has an ALS system. It really feels like a lil rally car.
This color is sick !!
It's a little feminine. That's fine if u like that. But the RS nitrous blue looks better IMO.
@@timjones3866 The blue is a boy color.

Seeing David smiling and happy behind the wheel is the best stuff of life. When I have the money to buy a Type R I'll get Patterson Car Care for upkeep but I don't clean my dusty 07 Altima sadly. Thank you for all these wonderful years of cars and car culture!
This is why I love your channel. You also showcase the things normal tuners drive and sometimes the unorthodox ones. Keep it coming my dude 💯!
I'm so happy this car is getting the love it deserves
As a genesis coupe owner I hope they bring the coupe back I'd be excited to see what they do with it.
My guess is that it will be much higher priced and I used to own one 3.8
Even if it's not the fastest, one thing I've noticed about all reviews of people reviewing the Veloster N - everyone always has a smile on their face and they are laughing and having fun.
I love my genesis coupe! But man, this veloster n is a beauty
Which version?
Same here man 👌
What makes me laugh, are Hyundai HATERS.
They claim to HATE Hyundai vehicles(Korean vehicles), yet they waste their time watching videos of Hyundai vehicles
Life is too short to be wasting your time doing something that you hate.
Maybe they are lonely M.f.'s, who like to post mean comments so people can speak to them😢😭😭😭
How about watching videos of vehicles that you do like?😀😁
If you're wasting your time watching reviews/videos of vehicles you claim to hate, that makes you an IDIOT!
Great review dude!😁😎
Shut up for god sake 😂

Some random dude once said hyundai are bootleg mercedes. They do look similar
@@MrTmenzo I think if anything they look more like Audi’s
Not exactly , could be they hated the car after the review or somethin idk
Amazing video i really need this pure turbos upgrade 😍! I love my N but the turbo is holding it back! Once again thank you for making this video!
As someone who has a 2016 veloster turbo I absolutely love these cars and am happy they are getting more attention!😎
Glad to see someone giving the Veloster love! I love mine ! Sxth Element is great . I saw that car when they were doing my car (no headlights) and I have to say those headlights are sick 🔥
YESSSSSSSSS. I love you David! I hope one day when I finish my tacoma (turbo 1st gen sr5) it needs a few more things and then I’ll try to contact you so you can review it.
Honestly after many of your reviews over the last few years you have gotten me into hot hatches. I always liked the veloster but when I saw the N I knew I wanted it. I wish it had AWD but I'm really looking at going drive one soon.
As someone who tools about in a FWD on the daily, you really don't need AWD unless doing some hard acceleration or sliding about. Even in snow, FWD will take plenty good care of you so long as you put winters on it. Source: am Canadian and enjoy watching SUVs slip, spin, and get stuck while my Mazda keeps going confidently.
This is one of the nicest looking cars I've seen in so long, the carbon hood and fenders with that front lip is so clean
I can’t wait till I save up enough to buy one of these. Korean cars have really come a long way Key examples being this car, the Kia stinger, and the genesis g70.
I own a 19 g70 as my daily and for what I revived as in performance and luxury to money it was a steal man drop the name brand shit and it’s crazy what the Koreans are doing
Kapss 08 honestly brand snobs are my least favorite kind of car enthusiast. You can always find them under any Kia/Hyundai video commenting “it’s still a shitty Korean car”
@@Wolfy400 Real recognize real
@@Wolfy400 Brand snobs? You know about the FACT that the reason Hyundai/Kia are doing this well is the fact that they basically replaced their entire design and engineering teams with people who used to work in Audi, VW and BMW? So the car snobs are right, because the people who used to make great cars for "snob brands" were hired by a shitty brand, and then turned that shitty brand into a brand that makes great cars. The whole N-line of Hyundai's is developed by a guy who used to be one of the leading engineers in BMW M division. Those are FACTS. There's no such thing as "brand snobs". There are simply people who know A LOT about cars, and those who don't. And those who don't know a lot about cars often believe that highly regarded brands are only considered great because of their badge, but ignore the fact that in order for them to be considered great, they had to get to that point. And how did they get to that point? By consistently making great cars. You think someone who likes BMW's over Hyundai's is a snob? No. It's just a fact that BMW has been making the best cars in every segment they competed in for decades, and Hyundai has been a synonym for cheap disposable cars during the same time. So obviously BMW will have a better reputation, and Hyundai will have a lot of work to do in order to prove they're on the same level. It's just that, they couldn't do it on their own, they had to hire the very same people who made BMW great, in order to make Hyundai/Kia have a chance to compete with them.
@@derbigpr500 So someone who buys a car for it's heritage, rather than it's merits isn't a snob? k.
Love the look of the N. Having a RS myself it’s hard to compare any car to it in its price range. Owned many Subaru’s but the RS is of its own. Nice honest review and it open my eyes to what the N is capable of.
I was wondering if you would ever get the chance to review one of these. And you came through! I own one of these. Very fun cars!
Such an informative review, killing it man.
good review, always glad to hear in depth comments, seeing the smile on your face says a lot

Hyundai is on top of this game right now🔥
The Veloster N is an amazing car for what especially when you’re talking about the amount of performance it has for the value
If I can get the money together for a hot hatch, the Veloster N is my first choice. Underrated as hell and this lovely in-between of Japanese and German quality with a very Korean personality.
Nice video! I love my 2016 Veloster Turbo (few bolt ons) also shout out to 6th Element always have a good experience with them. Would love to get an N sometime in the near future so thanks again for the video

In case people don't know, this engine was joint-developed with Mitsubishi and Chrylser. It is basically the same engine used in the Lancer Evo X.
Seriously?
So it's a 4B11 block?
@@mangoshake No. Just similar design but not exactly the same. I believe Hyundai manufactured the 4B11 blocks and heads for Mitsubishi during their joint venture since they had the factory to support it. But Hyundai took a lot of Mitsubishi's tech and further developed it into their own cars.
@@PiroFyre I see thanjs
The 2.0 theta engine was co developed but it is not the same. Bottom end is different 4b11t is a 4 bolt main theta is 2 bolt main rods and crank are different oil ports are different between the two. 4b11 is a semi closed where as theta is open deck. Head gaskets are also different. They also have different cam shaft configuration they can share valve springs and valves but that’s about it. Please be clear when discussing this as loosely they are cousins but not the same.
Finally a modified N review.
great review as always man. love this car so much for the bang for buck. biermann knew what he was doing at m and now at n!
Congrats SXTH Element for another job well done!
You can't act like the first one didnt happen. That's like saying you got a loaf of bread with no butt. You gotta start rough before you get to the good part. And that's what Hyundai did
We have Stinger guys on the forums now running low 11's, with 125 mile an hour trap speeds. That's Hellcat level. With a rear sway bar upgrade and slight lower the Stinger also handles like it's on rails despite weighing so much more than the N.
Looked awesome!!! Loved the video!!
I only wanted a 3.8 from Hyundai, now im considering this hatch, looks soooo good and sounds awesome!
I was really amazed by how awesome that car is. The combination of power and fuel economy is incredible.
In my country, we have the I30N (and fastback N) but not the veloster, actually no veloster at all.
But we do have the MK8 Fiesta ST(yes the 1.5 3cyl 200HP ecoboost) and MK4 Focus ST( yes the 2.3 280HP ecoboost)
quite ironic.
I wish in the states we had the i30N I would’ve put 10k down on it
If we got the i30N (which is our Elantra) I would buy one in a second.
I'm butthurt we didnt get that sweet little MK8 ST. Veloster is 1st on deck as of now. Toyota bringing something stateside though...
@@akiraproject2424 the GR Yaris? yes but that car will be very expensive. on the plus it's probably the only road rally car available today that is not an STI.
I prefer the i30N fastback - always been a fan of fast saloons. Daughter works at a Hyundai dealership and took me out in an i30N hatch. The exhaust crackles are intoxicating!
Love the KDM love by thatdude...I have a 2016 Kia Optima 2.0T with full bolt-ons, tune and WMI. Such a sleeper especially with the cars seats in the back. Keep up the KDM videos!
This man was loving it! Glad to see
It certainly does rev out fast to redline. Especially when it breaks loose in first and second gear. It usually grips, and i love the little gear number indicator on the dash
We need to jump on the Hyundai/Kia train, they’re making strides in terms of performance and putting cars out that are pretty obtainable
I used to work for Honda, and found when we got used car stuff in for Hyundai's we sold the parts the the same or better quality, better packaging and much lower price. Hyundai is way better than they used to be for sure.
Got to meet this man at IFO and it was a hell of a ride. Made me happy to be a fan of these things for all these years.
I love the coffee shop music in the beginning 🤣. Reminds me of Korea so much

Brooooooooo I'm full bolt on as well but my boy got a N. Trust me when I say the confidence you get driving that car is unreal
The Broke Consumer it’s all good, i like the veloster too, but i’m going to boost my 3.8 very soon
if you don't mind me asking, what are full bolt ons for a 3.8 gen coupe? I just got one less than a year ago and have been doing the basic exhaust/transmission mount upgrades for now (the isr performance racing cat back sounds fuckin AWESOME)
Quin Burke A lot of people do it different but i have a true cold air intake in the fog light with the black grill piece out so the filter is exposed and getting air (no problems ever in rain or puddles in heavy rain), polished throttle body with coolant bypass, ported and polished upper and lower intake manifolds with the manifold riser (intake and manifolds are heat resistant gold tape wrapped) , equal length ported headers catless that are heat wrapped, test pipes, stillen straight through catback exhaust, and alphaspeed custom tuned. My engine was taken care of well since i got the car basically brand new so my timing is only 1 to 2 degrees off of what e85 guys run, so i’m just about at 340whp
Theedd9991 cold air intakes don’t actually work. Almost at all.
TDIB: "The Veloster N is filling a void. The Focus ST is gone and the Fiesta ST is gone."

I still wished they made a 3rd gen genesis. The 2nd gen was pretty dope and made pretty good power
So cool to see the car I own getting praise! Glad others see it the same way I do: AMAZING! I love this car and will tell everyone the same thing, that this is the best car to own right now. Sub-30k, 275 horsepower, grippy, fun, loud. If it were AWD it would be the perfect car. It's also super easy to modify this car and Hyundai even tell you this. What a great car! I sold Hyundai’s for 5 years. Was with them when this car came out in 2012. Wow they really improved this Model. It now shares the Elantra Sport platform with its independent rear suspension. It use to be on the Accent platform, ho hum. Solid twist beam axel, 1.5 L turbo motor. Now it’s really come int it own! I sold Luxury cars for about 15 years before moving to Hyundai. Wow did they impress me. The dealer I worked for was top in their market, great CSI! There service department took great care of all my customers! Pugi Hyundai in Downers Grove I’ll.
You have to review the new N with the dct then it comes here. Seats look so much better too
