The hot hatch market was probably the most competitive around 2013. You had the Ford Focus ST make its debut in the United States, the dominant Volkswagen Golf GTI, and the wild MazdaSpeed 3. The Mazdaspeed 3 was always known as the less sophisticated but wild experience compared to the others. It made more power at the time and was notorious for one thing: torque steer. With all of the turbocharged horsepower going to the front wheels the car was already a handful. So what happens when you slap on a Garrett GTX Gen II 3071R and turn it up? Let's go for a drive and find out! Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday!

Or at least something exciting. There currently isn't any really exciting Mazda. The only thing which comes close to be exciting in my opinion is the MX-5 / Miata. Which could need at least and engine with 100 hp more. A new Speed 3 would be a nice start.

Full mod list (of important stuff anyway):
      -Ramfab 3.5" intake
      -CP-E front mount
-VTCS deleted and mildly ported intake manifold
      -ATP GTX3071r
-Tial 44mm wastegate with an open dump
      -CP-E exhaust manifold
      -Turbo XS catless downpipe
      -Tial 44mm bypass valve
      -3" straight pipe catback
      -Corksport+Damond dual catch cans
Tuned by Will@Purple Drank. Running peak of 25psi, maxing out stock fuel system. I have a meth system onboard, but it's acting up currently so it's not being used.

I currently daily a 2012 Chrysler 200 sedan with the 283hp 3.6 V-6 and 6 speed auto (same as used in the old minivans, Journey, and Promaster vans) and have had one of the turbocharged 4dr hatch Lebanon’s and a 2dr Shadow turbo, so I always get a laugh out of those types. With my 200, there were complaints in ads on RUclips about the car being over powered. I also was reading on an Allpar thread for the platform where somebody came on there that was looking to replace a mid-90’s Impala SS and was POSITIVE there was a suspension issue with the car because of how it behaved under power.......most of the Shelby-Dodge guys on there like myself just laughed at the guy’s post!

The F2T engine was a single cam 12V Factory stroked 2.2(from 2.0) with an IHI VJ11 Turbo.

Only in the US was the interior of the second generation speed 3 the same as the SP25. In other markets there were a number of differences, from seat trim specification to instrument cluster color and type, to the removal of the bland silver trims for something a little more appealing. I believe there was also differences in equipment levels - In my country the MPS came with an auto dipping rear view mirror which I don't think the US got. Overall, the only items really shared between the standard Mazda 3 and the Speed 3/MPS is the chassis (with significant stiffening in the case of the Speed 3/MPS), the headlining, the dash crash pad and certain audio/HVAC items. Everything else is different with a different part number.

My first performance car was a gen 2 speed 3. I dont understand the torquesteer hate honestly, that car was the most fun I have had daily full stop. I named her Betty boop with all the spunk she had haha. I miss her so much, I was running 21 psi of boost through that little ko4 when she blew, what a car still my favorite daily driver. Much more fun on the city streets than my 370z, I have considered going back on more than a handful of occasions.

I am a simple man, I see a David upload i leave a like. I am also a simple man and when I see a speed3 video I leave a comment. I’d still love for you to review my 2012 Mazda3 with the Skyactiv engine. It’s still a work in progress but right now I just have a stand alone ecu tuner, a CorkSport air intake, and the CorkSport cat-back exhaust. Still debating on if I want to get MSDS headers or not, and still working on saving up for CorkSport’s coil over suspension. My biggest complaint with the car is that 18 year old Shawn did not get a manual one instead of the auto (I am now 25 years old for what it’s worth) but it still performs pretty good especially in manual mode which is how I primarily drive her. And I guess also as a side note, her name is Michaela, I go for alliteration names with my cars. My first car was Heidi the Hyundai and now I have Michaela the Mazda. Ok I’m going to go now, BYEEEE 😎

You’ll have to revisit the platform at some point! Find one Making around 500whp like mine, and see how it fairs in your opinion against other fwd cars like maybe built Hondas. If you’re ever in Chicago area and interested in trying out a built speed 3 with aux fueling reach out to me! Love your videos been keeping up w you for a long time. Glad you speak pretty highly of these cars.

I daily drive a 2011 Mazda CX-7 2.5L NON turbo model. I just hit 253K miles. Still drives very good and just as reliable as when I bought it(Lease return with 36K).
Every time I have considered parting ways with my CX-7, I want to specifically go to a Mazdaspeed 3. I have had the chance to go for a few rides in these and boy are they fast, fun and very nice looking. In the meantime I just practice and pretend when I’m my CX-7!

Having owned a 2nd gen from new for 8 years, Had it tweaked to about 300 WHP with all bolt ons, proper suspension and proper motor mounts (75/80 duro) , There was nothing sketchy about the car. The torque steer you build up a tolerance to knowing what it will do before it does it. I tracked it for a while as well. Had the TWM short shifter and the complete replacement unit in the console, and never had shifting issues. It blew peoples mind at the track, because they didn't really know what it was. The problem with the big turbo is that the more power they made, the less reliable they became. I know of 3 cars with big turbos and extensive internal work that all failed with relatively low mileage. I miss the car but I have moved on

Mazdaspeeds are awesome man. It's a semi-closed deck so there's PLENTY of room for more power with better internals. The general consensus is the stock internals can handle 400whp, which for a daily is a lot of fun.

    • @flameninja00
      @flameninja00 4 года назад +3

It's not semi closed, it's closed deck. You don't even need to touch the block itself till like 600hp 👀 then it's just putting in sleeves
