Yeah! That's what I'm looking for.

The liquid sunscreen should always be the first base layer in the morning. Sprays and powder are only advised for use as reapplication every 2 hours if you're just staying indoors all day. UVA is still able to penetrate glass windows. But if you're outdoors, definitely reapply using whatever liquid base you used every 2 hours and more often if you're in water or sweating a lot. Use waterproof preferably as well.
You have to apply sunscreen even when you're indoors?
@@anaghabalagopal
Well, again, the modern UV-blocking car/home window glasses do not have much ability to block the UVA rays, which cause the sun's skin aging effects (& also some cancers but to a much lesser degree than the UVB kind). UVB generally leads to the dangerous sunburning effects & cancer on the skin. The "99% UV protection" they usually claim for the glass used in windows & sunglasses refer mainly to UVB.
But it also depends on how much sunight is penetrating the room you're staying in when indoors & of course the weather outside as well, so check your UV index for the day. If it's a cloudy or rainy day with low UV index & you're staying indoors the whole day, you may not need to apply SPF at all. I'd personally still apply a coat of at least SPF 30 at the start of any kind of day, though, out of habit & cuz I'm prone to hyperpigmentation due to being a brown-skinned & acne-prone person, but I wouldn't reapply any more SPF except if I need to run errands, for example, for a short period of time later that day. So just use common sense to modify the general rules that should be most appropriate for the whole time you're outdoors. If you have family or personal history of skin cancer for instance, you would then need to be more mindful of the rules than if you didn't have that particular factor in your medical history. Remember that SPF can only protect you as long as you have adequate amounts of an effective sunscreen with high SPF on your skin. That means that it diminishes over time during the day (i.e. the higher the SPF & PA + on the label, the longer they can stay stable on your skin) due to their spontaneous degradation caused by their very function of blocking the UV rays, which directly diminish the efficacy of the SPF chemicals as they work, as well as from our natural release of sweats & oils throughout the day on top of the kind of weather & activity you're doing that day. So if you're out there swimming or playing sports, you'd have to use water-resistant SPF while also needing to reapply more often (or every after you need to wipe any area off with a towel) than the recommended intervals of 2 hours when out in the sun while doing just regular daily activities that don't disrupt your usual layer of SPF application .
And then apply the opposite modifications for the reverse situation.
@@anaghabalagopal Yes. Dermatologists recommend above SPF 30 broad spectrum sunscreen once a day even when not going out
@@anaghabalagopal It depends. If you do not get much sunlight in your room then you DO NOT need suncreen indoors. But if you, for example, have your working place next to a window and get sunlight in the room - then yes

@@tvgr8218 Yeah I’m pretty sure that’s why she listed the strength of its SPF because the sunscreens are indeed regulated. Some might have chemicals you don’t prefer, but that would take your own research. From Coppertone to SunBum, they both work the same exact way depending on the level of SPF. The only difference would be the chemicals used as fillers, fragrance, etc. For example, I like the SunBum sunscreens & it’s smell…however, it irritates my skin (scented fragrance) & once it got in my eyes & pretty much made the entire pool day painful for my eyes. They were protected 😅but irritated once it got in my eyes & wouldn’t come out. Coppertone is much easier for that, if it gets in your eyes you can rinse & out and a few minutes later it won’t hurt as badly. That’s just a small example of the differences. The SPF protection is near identical. I’ve seen brand comparisons before on sunscreens & the top tier brands all check the boxes 👌 it is good to compare what your skin prefers though. Some people get very dry skin after using Coppertone lotions, so they use the spray only. Just different examples of what your skin likes, on top of the most useful. That’s why many people use the spray over lotion, well, & sticky hands 😅
Nutrogena ultra sheer spf 70 the stick one.

Tip: mineral sunscreens are my personal preference, because some ingredients such as oxybenzone and others are damaging coral reefs. Using mineral sunscreens that use ingredients such as zinc oxide is usually better!
I also read that chemical sunscreen affects your hormones
There are reef safe ones that dont contain those ingredients. I personally like chemical suncreen the most cause it doesnt need to be reapplied constantly so its hard to give up but I buy the Deoproce w/ hyaluronic acid and it doesnt contain any of those. Highly recommended!

“Premature aging” so if I am 30 no sunscreen and I’m 30 I have aged prematurely?
@@medinbeqiri7539 if you've had above average sun exposure and you have light skin, it's possible that your skin has lost some more elasticity and shows more wrinkles than it otherwise might have. It also comes down to genetics, though. But most people have signs of aging at 30 - if you have photoaged noticeably more than other people your age (like maybe you've been hitting the tanning beds since you were 15), you will know. I wouldn't worry about it too much, 30 is a good age to start wearing sunscreen!
I would love to see someone put on sunscreen and use a uv camera throughout the day just to see what happens and to see how necessary it is to reapply
Well technically that wouldn’t work because even when it becomes ineffective, the sunscreen is still on your face
Just a random cat No, it would. Sunscreen doesn’t “wear off” like a glowstick, which is why you don’t need an entirely new bottle of sunscreen every time. The reason sunscreen becomes ineffective is because as time goes on your sweat and anything else that touches your skin washes it off. Eventually it washes too much off for it to be helpful anymore.
@@justarandomcat6869 the skin absorbs the product....
Uma Barriga Semi-incorrect. So, whatever you put on your skin, some of it does in fact get absorbed, how much depends on what it is. However it won’t slowly absorb over time, it will be absorbed pretty much right as you put it on and start rubbing it in the skin is meant to protect from outside hazards and it does a pretty good job of doing that so getting things passed it is not easy. Basically, sunscreen does not get absorbed into your bloodstream (besides like 4% which will be filtered out through your liver) and certainly doesn’t over time
Very necessary. It gets so hot in Australia you sweat like crazy so I reapply my entire body every 30 or so minutes. I go through a good bottle or more a week of sunscreen. I refuse to get sun damage even if reapplying is super tedious.

She applied to her ear but not her neck... it’s more important to wear it on your neck than ears. Usually I have my hair down which covers my ears so it’s not as exposed as my neck. As you grow older, you’ll also see a lot of aging through your neck wrinkles and sun spots so don’t forget that spot
Yes! Neck is an extremely important area.
Oh I never put it on my neck I should start doing that
Ears are a common place for skin cancer because people tend to forget, specially if you hav short hair! Neck is as important tho
Or she wears turtlenecks in the summer
Oh wow, really?
It would be good to see how non-SPF lotion looks on the UV camera, to compare the two and see if the 'darkness' of the lotion is because of the SPF protection or just because that's how lotion appears on a UV camera.
All the people in this comment section speaking out against sunscreen really think they’re more educated than dermatologists 🤦♂️ so ignorant
Doesn’t take a dermatologist to see other countries have banned chemicals here. How do you know that they’re aren’t paid off??
The internal mechanisms of adenosine & circadian clocks is more important than nutrition and training because everything cascades down from there like metabolism, ability to learn, sense of alertness, dopamine, serotonin, other neurotransmitters, & your hormones so everything is timed regularly--one of the reasons there is much challenge with anxiety, focus, & depression is because peoples internal mechanisms isn’t anchored to anything regular--doesn’t have to be every day but more than average
Btw professor Hollick of Boston university dermatology actually said not to use sunscreen and EXPOSE YOURSELF TO THE SUN!

Just watching this made two new pimples start forming on my face.
s s that’s crazy. Sunscreen never gives me pimples, however, normal moisturizing cream (not cetaphil though) will *always* give me pimples especially around my chin and between my eyebrows.
@@mlagv4045 Everything except cleanser & water gives me zits. Doesn't matter if the cream or serum says non-cloggng or non-comedogenic they all make me break out. I guess it's because even those creams need a couple of minutes to absorb and stop clogging anything and those couple minutes is all my skin needs to rebel.
s s hm, if you are financially able- might I suggest accutane? I had painful cystic acne up until 21 and Accutane took care of it. I only now have a prescribed night cream. I suggest this, because your skin seems extremely sensitive/ prone to acne and sometimes this is the much needed step to end the cycle of frustration
Greg Fakerson Trust me, Guys aren’t my target demographic for when it comes to dating.
It’s more about the self-esteem aspect of it. Acne has the stigma of being a sign of weak hygiene and some cases it basically make your entire face in pain. Some people just don’t want to have to deal with it, others don’t mind it.
I didn’t care what people thought of my acne, *I* just hated it and got frustrated.

@Greg Fakerson wow guys always think that we give a fudge about what supposedly "bothers" you. Dude this aint about you. Pimples are physically uncomfortable and they suck. We're not imagining anything or thinking about anyone else for that matter.
For the misunderstood information, makeup powder is a physical sunscreen (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) and it should not be shown dark, as the physical sunscreens reflect not absorb
David Aguayo thanks for infomation!
physical
so does it work just as well as the lotion and stick shown in the video?
This isn't necessarily true either. Yes, physical filters do refelct _some_ UV radiation, but they mostly work by absorbing UV radiation, just like an organic chemical filter would. It’s a big misconception that physical filters, Zinc and Titanium Dioxide, reflect 100% of UV radiation like an impenetrable shield; That simply is not true. They reflect only around ~5-10% of UV while the rest of the UV is absorbed and converted, much like how organic filters work. Again, because people are not reading my comment correctly, I am not saying mineral filters do not reflect at all - I am saying that they *_mostly_* absorb UV, _in addition_ to scattering some UV. And before anyone tries to call me out, yes I am a licensed skincare professional.
@@EtherealMemory That's not true....Mineral filters reflect UV. They'd show up lighter then they do in real life.

same here. i get the same reaction every time i tell someone i’m 38, damn i thought you were 21. yeah, i learned the importance of sunscreen at a young age.
I put the sunscreen lotion on the back of my hand and then use a foundation brush to put the product on my face. The brush helps to really get into all the little spaces and it makes putting sunscreen on your ears so much easier.

why not just stay home until it is dark, like every other vampire would do?
Even iPad computer 💻 and phones if ur staring screen for long can cost aging so just staying home do house work is better I guess
you still get UVA exposure even if you stay inside assuming you have windows and natural lighting. Widow glass only filters UVB - the heat rays. UVA rays are the ones that give off light. So as long as you can see where you're going w/o the need of a flashlight you are in fact exposed to UVA rays. Even indoors.

What would it look like on the UV camera if you applied foundation on top of your sunscreen? 🧐
Damla what if your foundation was your sunscreen
It should still appear dark, as sunscreen absorbs uv rays!

You have to let the sunscreen sit on your face 20 minutes before putting on makeup.
Cool but why didn’t she come back after like 30 mins or an hour to see how much had worn off 😭
Great idea
I’d assume Bc that’d be more of an actual product review vs application type review. Also, she applied the products on top of each other, and different products and brands vary in how long until the next recommended application, so you really wouldn’t get a clear idea over which is “better”.
Reapply every 2 hrs
In winter you don’t actually have to re-apply. in summer definitely not only because of the weather but also like the time you’re actually exposed to the sun and because you’re sweating... several factors actually
This is so interesting and helpful, thank you! I recently moved to dubai & I’m always looking at what sunscreen to use ~ i’ll stick to the lotion! 💕

Yeah. Problem is just if you feel more protected than you are, and spend more time in direct sun b/c of it. (This might be a reason in a few studies, sunscreen use correlates with *more* cancer. They're not factoring total UV-exposure time in those studies.) But the powders have to be the worst offender in that category.

5) see if different SPF levels change the blockage opacity
6) see which type lasts the longest
Yes! add regular spray sunscreen to the list
YEEESSSS
I'll try to answer a few of your points. I'm not an expert but I've been wearing sunscreen since before it became popular and I have done a TON of research and also have a good relationship with my dermatologist. I've been wearing so many different sunscreens over the last 25 years. It's actually really nice to see so many options now! Anyway, to get to the point, believe that SPF 30 blocks 95% of UV rays and SPF 50 blocks 97%. SPF 15, blocks I think 93%. Anything over SPF 50 is just gimmicky and wasting your money. Wayne Goss has a video on using makeup with SPF, you would literally have to coat your face like a clown to get adequate coverage. Please don't rely on makeup for your protection. If a moisturizer has SPF in it, I'd look for the Skin Cancer Society seal of approval before using it (just to be safe)! I don't know anything about "no rub" but I'm definitely going to look into it! I have used the spray sunscreens and while I don't know how effective they are, they all seem to be really sticky. The opacity of a product wouldn't necessarily change depending on the SPF rating but rather if the product is chemical or physical. Usually physical/mineral sunscreens leave a white cast on the skin and anything it touches. I have ruined a few items of clothes and even my car interior from using physical sunscreens. :-( And for your last one, it depends on which type of protection you use. Physical sunscreens block the UV rays and can last up to 4 hours of in and out sun exposure or 3 hours of continuous sun exposure. Chemical sunscreens absorb the UV rays and after about 2 hours of continuous sun exposure they get "full" and you have to reapply.
I really hope this helps! and yes, wearing sunscreen on a consistent basis really DOES keep you looking young! I'm in my late 30s and people still think I look like I'm between 21-25! No wrinkles!

People constantly ask me what I do to have such young looking skin. They never like my answer but it’s true. I have worn sunscreen pretty much every day of my life starting as a teenager. I also lived in a climate with long winters and was rarely “tanning” at a beach. I think people want me to say some quick fix I did or that I use some magic serum that took away my aging but that just doesn’t exist. The best defense of wrinkles is really preventing them in the first place. However, now that I am older and starting to see some fine lines, I started using retinol but I honestly see little difference. For all the young people out there, wear sunscreen every day, even if it’s cloudy or winter. You’ll thank me when you’re in your forties with little to no fine lines or wrinkles.

What about differences in spf levels?? I wanna see if the protection differs in each levels maybe the thickness or how long it stays?
Difference is the amount of UV rays that it blocks, though the number on the bottle doesn't directly coincide with the percentage of blockage. SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays and SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays. So there's, like, only a couple percentage differences between them all, which is important to note since SPF levels are often priced higher the higher they are.
The differences in spf is about how much time ( minutes ) stays on your skin...
You have to reapply before te effect dissapear.
@@paolabustos9477 That's not true. The difference is the amount of UV rays that it blocks.

Everyone should be using physical/mineral-only sunscreen, so sunscreen that only uses mineral filters, not chemical filters (which are irritants, sensitizers, and toxic to health and the environment). The best mineral filter is zinc oxide as it's broad spectrum on its own and blocks out the full range of UV light. If a product also has iron oxides (alongside zinc oxide) even better, as iron oxides also protect against blue light (which can also cause premature aging as well as hyperpigmentation) and iron oxides may also give a slight tint to the zinc oxide sunscreen, diminishing the white cast.
not everyone is sensitive to chemical sunscreens+ they don't leave a white cast and can offer better protection in some cases
@@lambsauce8937 False. Chemical sunscreens don't offer better protection. In fact, mineral filters largely reflect UV light off (as opposed to chemical, which absorb it, creating a thermal/energy reaction in the skin which can can cause inflammation & lead to pigmentation in skin of color); zinc oxide is the only UV light filter that is fully broad spectrum and it's also anti-inflammatory, and iron oxides also protect against visible/blue light - so mineral sunscreen is not only the safest protection but also good for skin. Spray chemical sunscreens also are terrible at protecting the skin, and are even more toxic due to the aerosol. Moreover, you don't have be currently sensitive to chemical filters for its sensitizing factor to affect you in the future with continued use. Yes chemical filters don't leave a white cast, but there are mineral-only sunscreens that don't leave a white cast either. A lack of white cast is not remotely worth the risks of chemical filters, which are bad for the skin, health and the environment. It's a similar issue with fragrances in skin care, which are only added for marketing & sales to deceive consumers into believing scented products are good when it's actually sensitizing your skin and causing damage.
@@carpediemearth A hybrid sunscreen of the two is your best bet, right?
@@kw7814 No, chemical filters are bad for skin and health. Mineral-only is the best option, zinc oxide being the best active filter.

This is why I actually like using sunscreen with a slight cast. I cover it up very easily with makeup, and it's so much easier to see I'm covered

If this can help anybody struggling with oily skin,Eucerin has good lotion sunscreen with oil control I'm wearing all year long on my face due to sun allergy and it's great. It actually helped me recover from lots of acne scars, it's SUPER important to protect your acne scars in the sun, take care everyone
thank you love I appreciate it 🥺🙏
Sun allergy? Tf
Omg thanks! I got so frustrated watching this video, bc on one hand it made me realize how much damage my skin has to suffer because I don't use sunscreen, but on the other hand, I get soooo greasy in the summer, just the thought of using anything thicker than a light hydrating gel makes me squeamish. You gave me hope that there might be a solution.
I also recommend Isdin Fusión Water Oil Control, it's the fucking bomb. It even acts as a mattifier.
thrash bin Omygod I just bought this! I have very oily skin and yes it helps BUT... i noticed it had Denatured Alcohol as like the 3rd ingrediënt on the list. I’m scared that if i use this my skin will age so fast .
Most of us apply foundation on top of the sunscreen.Would love to see the effect of the foundation
The makeup itself can be problematic, but it shouldn't mess up your sunscreen application. As long as you let it dry down before putting on makeup then you're good. Problem with using makeup over sunscreen is that you need to reapply sunscreen, even if it doesn't contain avobenzone. So I'd opt for a tinted sunscreen instead of foundation as you can easily reapply it. Hope I answered you question without it being confusing :]
Lycanite yes!!bought myself a tinted sunscreen last week!been using and loving its natural look.thanks for the reply!
Neutrogena Sheer Liquid Daily Sunscreen is formulated to be applied under makeup. It works wonderfully. I apply it (normally 2-3 thin layers, use SPF 70), let it set, put a bit of mattifier primer over it to set it more, then apply a bit of foundation powder. Works great for me.
I like to put on a layer of sunscreen by itself on my bare skin, slightly thinner then how much you’re supposed to use. Let it dry, then I put in my hand a proper amount of sunscreen and a small bit of foundation to tint it. Mix it in my hands and put it on like moisturizer, and then use extra foundation as a concealer if I really need to. I’ve tried applying makeup on top of sunscreen with both my fingers and sponges (I avoid brushed because I feel that the movements you have to make turn your layer uneven and I feel the bristles poke into your makeup and remove the sunscreen) and I’ve also tried just mixing the sunscreen and makeup but I knew I was diluting my sunscreen. So I find that this one gives me the best protection without feeling like I’m taking off my sunscreen with makeup sponges and brushes and things and I keep a layer underneath to compensate for diluting my spf 🙂
Her skin looks flawless
This is so great and perfect timing! I was going to write in and ask about this topic but forgot to ask last week, I appreciate all your GOOD WORKS THANKS FOR CURING MY HERPES
CHEMICAL sunscreen appears dark because it absorbs UV rays. Mineral sunscreen will appear white because it reflects the rays.
@Greg Fakerson Here is the proof : search "tizo uv camera demonstration"
So which is good?
sang625 both are good. They both have pros and cons. Mineral sunscreens don't irritate skin and are great for sensitive skin. The down side is a lot of them leave a white cast after applying, yet, some don't. Chemical sunscreens are often very thin and liquid-y, which means no white cast. However, they often contain lots of "drying alcohol" (which is different from "fatty alcohol") and lots of fragrance, which might lead your skin to be dried out or irritated. Choosing a sunscreen that work for your skin is definitely a long and patient process. It took me a long time to find what I really like. The one that I'm using rn is the tinted sunscreen anti-aging spf 30 from Paula's Choice. It's mineral but because it's tinted, I look more like a human after applying it 😂 and it doesn't irritate my acne prone skin
@@cecebristan7175 thank you for the recommendation!

Can you do a test with the environmental friendly/marine friendly sunblock that only contain zinc oxide as the active ingredient?
Yes! I'm allergic to most sunscreens and have to use ones with zinc oxide. And I've always wondered how well they actually work
+Mackenzie Herrera physical sunscreens are very effective, but they should contain both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and be broad spectrum/three pluses or more (+++)
Yes, zinc oxide is one of the most effective ingredients. It's very whitening which is why people dislike it. There is nano-form but that is not environment friendly nor as protective as the real thing.
Supergoop! Its expensive but it's works for me and I use it on my face as the last step in my skin care routine. Its allergy tested and sheer so I dont look like a ghost after. I personally love their products.
The Ordinary does a zinc oxide and titanium dioxide sun cream without nanoparticles
So the powder was just powder makeup with SPF, not SPF powder? I would love to also see how actual powder sunscreens perform.
Apparently not very good either. I've read reviews on the Colorscience powder sunscreen and people haven't been impressed by it, especially one said she used a lot of it and still got sun burn and hyperpigmentation, but when she switched to a sunscreen lotion it didn't happen
Personally, I use it just when I already had my sunscreen, my bb cream (with SPF) and I'm like indoors and need to reapply... I have the A'PIEU powder sunscreen and when I'm applying, it's very easy to see if it's really on my skin or not bc it's a dark beige color (it fades after and my makeup keeps nice as hell but anyways) so...
I'm interested in knowing how well powder sunscreens work. Not just in make-up powders like she inferred in this video, but actual mineral powder sunscreen. It just seems like the easiest way to reapply for me after i've done my makeup.
This is so great and perfect timing! I was going to write in and ask about this topic but forgot to ask last week, I appreciate all your GOOD WORKS THANKS FOR CURING MY HERPES
I find it very interesting to se e that sun screen gives them a sort of melanin covering to block out the harmful rays.
I'm 33, and just now getting around to daily sunscreen application. Should've been doing this my whole life, but better late than never. I LOVE keeping a stick in my bag for reapplying. So happy to know it's working well because I was a bit worried it wouldn't have as good a coverage as lotion.

"UV rays are what cause sunburns, skin cancer, *and eventually wrinkles*"
yeah 'cause wrinkles are definitely the worst that can happen out of the three 😂
thats just like a time order of them tho. first comes a burn (because you dont usually get cancer in an hour but you do get burnt in an hour), then comes cancer and over years comes wrinkles 🤷🏻♀️
Tima Br well maybe wrinkles aren’t at all as bad as those two things but i don’t want no wrinkles 😔
Yeah I am going to kill myself when I start looking old.
Skin cancer can happen before wrinkles
I mean, she said 'eventually,' not 'especially.' So the point wasn't to imply it was the worst of the three. She wasn't putting grave emphasis on wrinkles, she was separating wrinkles out in time from the other two.
The point was to explain that wrinkles may happen farther down the line, but sunburns and skin cancer are a more imminent threat for the younger population.
amazing will wear sunscreen from now on
