    • @CorderralLewis
      @CorderralLewis 2 месяца назад +2

      @@KHH595 I'd say equating a process being slower with an "inablility" to do the process at all is a hell of a reach. I'd also say trading slower vit D consumption for NO sunburn and resistance uv based skin cancer is a damn good trade. Across the world, culturally our diets, more often than not, tend to be high in leafy greens (callaloo, collards, spinach, etc) which are rich in vitamin D

    • @niRtywa_starcvnt
      @niRtywa_starcvnt 22 дня назад

      @@KHH595that's not very big flaw, I cannot absorb vitamin d even with my complexion and just take vitamin d pills; On the other hand, the excessive sensitivity of a pale skin like mine is a constant problem with the sun, lotions, jewlery and clothes in general.
      I'd take the defficient absorption of vitamin D ANY DAY over the literal pain the sun and certain fabrics cause me.

I could only say, it is worth it going through the trouble to apply it everyday - you do end up with youthful skin in the long run. And an important tip: don‘t neglect your ears! :-) remember, it‘s never too late to start taking care of your skin.

    I have freckles on my face and I love them, even though they are from over sun exposure.
    I loved seeing the ultraviolet side of peoples skin. Their true smiles and surprised reactions to how they really look is amazing. They look natural and happy.
    Sometimes I feel ashamed and wish I had flawless skin, but this video made me appreciate the way my skin really is. • @qbee53
      @qbee53 10 лет назад +8

      Al Fateh -you are correct. Black skin needs sunblock as well. What is unique about black skin is that it is thicker than caucasian or asian ethnicities. It has more sebaceous (oil glands) per square inch as well. A telltale sign this skin is dray is that it appears greyish and powdery. This indicates it needs moisture. Just like all the rest of us.

    • @Tommybotham
      @Tommybotham 10 лет назад +38

      Al Fateh Not true. People who live in Africa endure harsh sun that would kill a white man. I don't see them buying sunblock.

    • @RakugaX
      @RakugaX 10 лет назад +37

      Al Fateh Actually he's correct. Darker melanin rich skin is the ultimate sunblock. The only problem with black people is that they need more sunlight if they live in colder regions. Black peoples skin was built to withstand the UV rays, that's why you never hear cases of people living in Africa or any hot sun regions on earth dying from skin cancer.

    The issue is that the main ingredients in sunscreen can be extremely comedogenic, meaning it can break you out. All those hoax sites, natural products charlatans and people who make money from AdSense in blogs use a lot of the information on that site to invent false information. ***** It has been well documented for a long time even before sunscreen had been marketed that the production of melanin in your body is a response to injury. It might be a "natural process" as some people say, but so is dying from infection, but we do a lot to prevent that.
      I mean you're right about what you said, but it also doesn't mean tanning is good for you. One person said 15-20 minutes a day; that is perfect, but the part about several hours a day... I know people with black skin that definitely should not spend that much time in the sun over their lifetimes.

    The important thing to remember about skin color is this - every human on this planet shares a common ancestor from about 200,000 years ago in the heart of Africa, and they definitely had dark skin. If we want to make a better world, we need to focus on what unites us, not what makes us different. After all, skin color really is only skin deep!

    • @secret4354
      @secret4354 5 лет назад +3

      @Lawrence Akin-Odujobi
      We do share a common ancestor. Mutations occur as we evolve.
      We do not have different melanins. All humans have eumelanin and pheomelanin. Dark skinned people just have more eumelanin (which makes the hair and skin brown) than pheomelanin( red/yellow ish color) and the other way around.
      We also have, no matter the color of your skin, roughly the same concentration of melanocytes. The melanocytes in dark skinned people just express certain genes more which makes the skin produce more melanin. If humans are exposed to the sun, these genes are expressed more, hence why people tan if exposed to the sun.

    Update: Stop downplaying the melanin richness in black people's skin. And no it is not just skin, but a natural sunblock that protects our DNA. It is a blessing and something we (black people including blacks in Africa, Asia, Melanesia, Australia) should be proud of. I am not ashamed of my melanin rich skin. #MelaninPride is about black people being proud of our dark hue when others try to convince us it is a curse.

    Getting enough sunlight, including UV, is extremely important for vitamin D production. Getting sunburnt is bad, yes, and you should avoid it, but suggesting you just wear sunblock all the time is really bad for your health. It should only be worn when you are going out into the sun for long enough to burn yourself. The problem is, most of us are inside most of the time, but when we do go out, we go out for way too long, especially considering we haven't built up a tolerance. A good 20-40 minutes a day, especially in winter, is much better. Source: The Sun's Heartbeat, by Bob Berman
