    Hi Dave. Thanks for this video. Super useful overview and explanation. Great content for new Elizabeth owners and self confessed expresso geeks like myself!
    My only question is how do you not have more likes on your videos! Keep up the great work!

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  2 года назад +2

      Because I don't ask for likes, subscribers or anything (I don't monetise my work)...the site was originally (and primarily still is) just somewhere for me to dump videos that were part of a larger written review.. My videos are not really designed to entertain, just to inform. I guess the people who like them have decided they might like a particular machine and come hear to find out about it. The other people who tend to use my site are actually Retailers....to find out what gotchas a machine might have.

    Hi Dave thank you for this. Thank you for your Elizabeth videos, too - they helped me make my decision and I am incredibly happy. One thing I did notice with the steam pre-infusion is if you run it for the full 20 seconds allowed, it does hiss and spit towards the end if you run it without a filter. I know it would normally push the water through, but I do believe that it also means if the water gets through and starts to pour, the steam would touch the coffee. Observation, not criticism. In my experiments at home, I'd say grinding for a sweat after 6-10 seconds seems to produce really sweet, fruity shots in most beans I am roasting medium-light on my Kaffelogic nano. It's a stunning machine, the Elizabeth, and a great example of how small things can make a big difference in the user experience. Also, I can leave it on all day and use 1.1kwh of power vs 2.5kwh with my previous HX machine.

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 года назад +1

      steam preinfusion only works correctly if you have coffee loaded into the portafilter. If you just run it with an empty basket or no portafilter in the group, yes you would notice quite an increase water flow and you would get too much water from the steam boiler into the brew boiler.

    Hi, Dave!
    Thanks for the videos on the Elizabeth! I got the v3 a week ago and had the same default settings as one of the previous commenters here.
    I immediately set your recommended values for everything and I've been using it like that with no problem.
    But just out of curiosity: how did you get these PID values and how do they affect brewing and everything? For example, if I had beans dialed in at these settings, how would they brew at the default settings?
    Thanks!

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  2 года назад +2

      I spend about a week doing a real world temperature series (not lab testing) and tune the PID parameters to work optimally in the range 89 - 95...being most accurate around 92/93C. I use a SCACE II for testing.

    Hi Dave, I recently acquired a used Lelit Elizabeth and I was changing the LCC Advanced settings and I was confused to find out that there is no EVS setting and the rest it only goes to ToT and then cycles back to KPc. Any idea why?

  • @awgrant18
    @awgrant18 3 года назад +2

    Hi Dave, Thanks again for making these advanced setting videos! I have a couple of questions about the your settings: KPc = 0.2 (PID Proportional value coffee boiler) & KIc = 0.07 (PID Integral value coffee boiler). The default values on my v3 110v US machine are KPc: 2.0 and KIc: .04. I was wondering how you came to these settings and if you recommend modifying to match yours? I have a minimal understanding of how PID controllers work from google. Additionally, my default KPs is 20. Is there any logic from the factory on having this value? Or do you again recommend adjusting to 0? Thanks again for spending the time on these videos! They have been super helpful :)

      Try my settings and see how you get on. I assume you're heating elements are the same wattage as the UK ones, just 120V version. I did considerable testing to come to these values.

    Hello Dave, thanks so much for making these videos? I have set my LCC using your recommended values, and I have noticed that sometimes when the machine sits idle for awhile, the temp starts to dip all the way down to around 83-84c before the boiler kicks back on and brings it back up to temp. Is this normal behavior? If not, is there a setting I can adjust to cause the boiler to kick back on earlier?

    • @DaveCorbey

    Hi Dave, Did you check with a portafilter pressure gauge to test the pressure difference between the Elizabeth's pressure manometer and the group/brew pressure? Preliminary findings show the manometer should be accurate to brew pressure, but not certain. My shots have often extracted at 10 bars or more as seen on the Elizabeth's manometer and i intend to adjust it down

    Thank you sir!! Are those settings still actual in 2024? And if someone can explain please, why we set offset at 10c? Isnt it decrease boiler lifetime? I were using Anna and set offset to 4 just to be sure that temp on pid is actual temp, whats the point of 10c offset in Elizabet?
    Thanks in advance 🙂🙏

    • @DaveCorbey

      Not on the Elizabeth...the latest model Bianca has a limited ability to drop the temperature during the shot....but it is very limited. A machine that is capable of doing it is the Vesuvius Evo Leva...but that's a very different type of machine.

    Hi Dave, thanks for your videos and reviews! I got my Elizabeth two days ago and I immediately changed the RT setting to 1. Now when I turn the machine on it heats up to 119 degrees! Once I use some water from the dispenser it drops to the set 95 and stays in this range. Is this normal? 119 on the display really freaks me out...

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 года назад

      If it's in the fast warm up routine after switching it on, you will see the higher set temp for a while.

    • @arelbaskan5133
      @arelbaskan5133 2 года назад

      I have the same issue and I don't think it is normal part of the warmup routine. When I turn on the machine from cold it climbs up to 120 degrees and then slowly dropping to the 97 degree . It only happens once and only happens from the cold start.

    Thank you for this helpful video.
    If I want to setup button 1 for steam pre-infusion and button 2 for bloom without having to turn off the steam boiler how do I do this and would you recommend it?

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  2 года назад

      There is a document that explains how this system works accessible from the full written review, of which this video is a part. sway.office.com/S5J4d9Jp4Y9LdVFx
      Essentially if preinfusion and the EV1 is enabled, then turning the steam boiler off or on can change the type of preinfusion from steam pressure, to bloom phase on the fly. Otherwise you would have to go into the advanced settings to change EV1, which is much harder. There is no way to do exactly what you want to do without tuning the steam boiler on/off...which is only a single button press.
