    I find you to be the most helpful on the Elizabeth machine. Don't know if you are still getting comments on this machine, but just the other day I read how a person on a coffee forum I use said the Lelit water softener cartridge is such a tight fit on the inlet hose that it eventually splits the tube & falls off making the water softener useless. We've had our machine a little over a year now & have changed out the cartridge every 6 months. My husband said that it is a tight fit but not a real problem. I'm surprised that the vendors that sell these machines & cartridges that come with the machine don't mention anything about this. Thanks.

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  Год назад

      If I'm honest, I don't like cartridges, I don't use them as I prefer to use water safe for machines. I had heard that the tube is tight though.

    Another question for you (hope you don't mind--I'm so new with my Elizabeth). I made two double shots & about 6 oz. of steamed milk. Wasn't happy with my shots, so dumped them & made two more doubles & another 5-6oz. of steamed/microfoam milk within about 5 minutes of each other. On the second 5-6 oz. of milk, I heard the pump kick in as the boiler filled. Is that normal, maybe because I had just made two 5-6oz. containers of steamed milk within 5 minutes of each other? Thanks.

    Thanks for the review and all of the other Lelit Elizabeth videos. I'm probably going to upgrade to this eventually from my Infuser, mainly due to space constraints. Have you been able to find any wood replacements for the steam knob? What other upgrades have you done to maybe the shower screen or something else? Thanks again!

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  4 года назад

      No, I think you would have to have one custom made unless you can find a alternate aftermarket Hifi knob with a grub screw made out of wood. Trouble is those sort of Hifis are all high end now and there are probably not knobs. Or try for some old radio replacement knobs, they might make some in wood for valve radio restorers.

    Was this portafilter very hard at the beginning of use to move towards the right? I had a different machine that because the portafilter handle (when new up to almost a month old) was very difficult to move to the right--it didn't seal & water came over the portafilter basket.

    Hi Dave, I have a question for you if you don’t mind. I had a Lelit Elizabeth for the last year or so in the US, but just yesterday moved to Australia where I had ordered a replacement Lelit Elizabeth so last night got to unbox and setup a brand new one. However - it didn’t work :( The specific symptom is that the brew head started off producing a normal amount of water, but after the first shot (just running through an empty basket - the machine had not seen a single coffee ground yet) the amount of water coming out the brew had tricked to a stop and subsequent shots barely produce water at all. I put the blind basket in to see how much pressure it was reading, but it couldn’t get past the “pre infuse” part of the scale, so no where near 9 bars. The tea spout and steam wands seem to function as expected (actually the steam seems to be much higher pressure than my last Elizabeth). So my question is if you have any thoughts on what might be preventing water from getting to the brew head? I’ve tried with and without the filter attached to the supply line (but since water is getting to other parts of the system that wasn’t likely the culprit anyway). I’ve got an email in with the company I bought it from, but wanted to ask you also. Thanks.

    Hi Dave, we have had our Elizabeth for a couple of months now and love the coffee or makes (it's our first prosumer machine - and one of the most expensive things we've ever bought!). My question is about condensation we have started to see appearing in the gauge and LCC window. This happens before we've even used the machine, almost every time we use it now. After the machine had been left on for an hour or so it will disappear - just due to the heat inside, I guess. We've given it back to be serviced by the company we bought it from - the tech couldn't find a fault inside, or didn't want to take it apart at this point. He said he could see that water had pooled on top of the group head inside. What should we do? What do you think is going wrong inside? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 года назад

      If there is water vapour in the gauge, usually means the bourdon tube inside is broken...I have never seen water in the LCC window. As it's both of these places, it's quite likely there is a leak inside on a brew boiler fitting which seals up when warm (often leaks can seal when something is warm due to expansion). If this water then evaporates within the relatively sealed environment of the brew boiler, as the LCC and Guage backs into that environment, it would well cause condensation. Ask the tech to observe it when heating up and fix the leak.
      The chance of the bourdon tube in the gauge being broken "and" an LCC mist up due to a leak is unlikely...hence I think all cause by a leak inside that top sealed area.

      @@DaveCorbey thanks Dave, now I stretched my budget. At the time I wrote to you I wanted a single boiler but now it’s between Elisabeth or Mara .
      Really what it comes down to for me is if Mara can handle a couple of milk based drinks in a row without struggling too much it is the one I like in design. Say if I make 2-3 cappuccinos then an extra espresso or cortado....
      If it struggles too much then I’d have to go with 2 boilers. Mostly I drink alone but sometimes I have maybe a friend or two over. It’s not like I will be hosting a restaurant 😅 but I still want it to be stable. Thoughts?
      Also been in contact with a local dealer here where I live. Tried to lower the price a bit since they are 2-300euro more expensive than if I order online fr Germany. Lelit still recommend that I buy where I live due to easier handling in warranty matters.

      It has last shot protection, the machine will continue with the shot even if the water is low, it won't just stop. Then when the shot has completed you will get the low water message and you have to refill before you do another shot. It's all in my written review on my review site.

      Dave Corbey thanks, just read your excellent review. What are your thoughts on the steam valve dial? Is it the same as the Kate? Always found mine a bit cheap. After years of use, I had my local retailer remove it and replace it with a solenoid valve operated by a flick switch on the front facade. Much easier to purge steam. I only have steam full on or full off, and I’m only doing enough milk for a couple of piccolos.

    This is a great machine and I have bought two. One small problem is a tendency for the puck to stick to the shower screen. It happens quite often even after I changed to a ridgeless basket which was a bit straighter sided than the original and a little deeper. The Lilet shower screen has a fine mesh over the bottom which I think causes the problem. I have changed it for a Gaggia screen which is a simple single metal plate and much smoother on the lower surface. I think this should solve the problem as I did the same on my Ascaso Duo and it worked.
    It didn't work! Two shots done today with the Gaggia screen and both pucks stuck to it?

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  Год назад +1

      Slightle ease down on the handle when removing portafilter. My ECM Puristica sometimes has this habit...and it breaks the vacuum seal on the puck.

    • @michaelblackmore883
      @michaelblackmore883 Год назад

      @@DaveCorbey Thanks Dave I will try this. It is a bit better since I changed to an IMS straight sided basket without a ridge and if I keep the load down to 17g it doesn't happen much although occasionally the basket does pull out of the portafilter. I have slightly bent the clip to increase the pressure on the sides of the basket which also helps with this. As usual it need a bit of fiddling to get the best out of a new machine.

    I really like the look of the Mara X with the E61 but see that it’s heat up times are 25 mins and it does not have a shot timer which I would really like (but not a deal breaker).
    What is the wait time on the Elizabeth when in brew mode only (eco)?
    I currently have a single boiler Ascaso Dream.
    Lelit seems to offer good value at this price point and I like the smaller footprint and would consider spending slightly more for another brand. So any advice is much appreciated as I seem to be in purchasing freeze mode.

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 года назад

      Warm up time is not a huge issue as they can be used on smart plugs as they have latching in/off switches and don't start in standby. The Elizabeth is a more powerful steamer and a proper dual boiler. All I can say is read the reviews really carefully and go for what meets your needs best. In the ms sway reviews for the Elizabeth read the maintenance and advanced LCC links. Elizabeth is slightly quieter than MaraX. Lastly buy with your heart as well, you have to like the look as it will be with you for many years even decades.

    Regarding the water spout,,,
    I have reciently learned som new stuff which leads me to think -" why do manufacturers even put the wand for water despensing, the ability to draw water (if the water is too hot for some beverages)?
    For example if you would want to use the water for tea:
    Yes both Mara X and Elizabeth have this water spout, but note that water on DB would be “fresher” and better tasting. On both machines hot water comes from steam boiler but on the HX this water comes from a larger quantity that's always boiling and has a “flat” taste, tea would express more floral/complexe notes with freshly heated water and on smaller boilers from DB steam boiler gets replenished with fresh water more often.
    So if this true, how hot is too hot for example an americano? If we say that tea would need cooler water and more refreshed isn't it the same for an americano (like 93 -96degrees)?
    Again, is the ability do draw water more for rinsing a pf or jug etc? Just curious :)

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey  3 года назад +1

      The temperature of the water has no impact on an americano except for you having to wait a bit longer before drinking it. I don't use the water from a machines boiler (HX or DB) to make Tea of Coffee, for the very reason that it doesn't change often and the concentration of dissolved stuff increases each time you steam. I have an Osmio Zero which is great for water for my espresso machines and also does room temperature and hot (94C) water, on demand.
      The only exception to this is the Elizabeth, which is very clever in the way it does hot water and has a very small steam boiler....read the written review and it should become clear.
