    I go for Elizabeth. It stops if it’s done and got a timer. And it heats up faster. Ain’t nobody got so much time in the morning while heading to work. Who cares about the looks of the machine or the portable filter? The coffee has to taste to good and the machine has to be practical. Over all, both of them are really expensive. In the end they don’t do Gold, they just extract coffee. 🙄🙈

    I think this video convinced me to get the Elizabeth. I’m coming from a single boiler and don’t want to play the fun guessing game of my temperature. I just think the value of the LCC is superior to the build quality of Mara. Thank you for the video

    Nice video, just one note: 2200W of Elisabeth is the peak Power - that means is not a disatvantage! it guarantees much faster heat recovery. The medium power consumtion is on the Elisabeth far smaller 50-70W. You can feel it on the top - cups are not so hot = less energy waste. Thats physic 😍

    I bought an Elizabeth based on your opinion and reviews. I love it! The new pump is very quiet and you get a lot of value for the money. I’ve purchased much more expensive machines in the past that don’t last, this one will suit me well and has a three year warranty.

    The MaraX uses a proprietary vibration pump that is lower noise... I still think they should all use more reliable rotary motors. The v3 elizabeth "should" have the same low noise vibration pump. Also the position can be changed by using a thicker gasket.. I would recommend switching from rubber to silicone gaskets, less prone to cracking, and more stable at higher temperatures than rubber. Also, pretty sure the single heat exchanger tank on the MaraX is 316 stainless steel, which is going to fight corrosion longer than brass.. also brass is made with lead in it.. so there's that too.
    I think you are correct that the V3 Elisabeth is a better machine, especially if you froth milk with your coffee. Would have been nice if they crammed a PID controller into the MaraX. I suppose we will just have to wait for a MaraY. :P
    Edit: I do think it is funny you have to mod the crap out of a brand new machine, you'd think they'd work with customers to get all those mods out of the gate.. like the IMS filter with nanocoated quartz for better dispersion...

    Thank you for the comparison. Even if the opinions on advantages and disadvantages many people will see differently. That's a good thing.
    I come from Germany and we always have to measure everything. A RUclips channel has determined 5 ° Celsius brewing temperature drop in his Mara X. (From 93° to 88°) It did not get better from espresso to espresso.
    Unfortunately, they have not measured. Maybe they just have more... Faith. :-)
    There are many good machines. But if you can spend your money only once, it's hard to find something very good for good money.
    But I already need a good year for a new car. There wein a few months of agony of choice for an espresso machine already ok. :-)

  • @PanzerIV88
    @PanzerIV88 Год назад +1

    Interesting video though I think you did miss on the most important feature by far on the MaraX which sets it above every single other HX machine on the market, is it's dual PID system with brew priority that gives you in this mode a much better stability than any typical HX so then you are even closer to a DB with a PID display. It's not just the 3 temp settings which anyway should be enough for 90% users. Think of it as "Dark, Mid, Light Roast" setting. I highly doubt someone here can spot right away the difference between 95C and 94C for example.
    Nobody needs more than 2.5min of consecutive steaming at home so that's no issue there as well. Now I'll just need to know how to adjust the pump pressure as most units come from the factory way too high. Even the Bianca V3 I just received was at 10.5Bar which is just dumb.
    By the way is the LLC from the Elizabeth the same same one as the Bianca V3 or it has less feature cause it seems like it has less since the Bianca has more things than what you've named in the video.
    The MaraX still has a better mechanical pre-infusion than most vibration pump with their Olab pump so it doesn't matter all that much not to be able to set a much longer 10-15sec pre-infusion with the LLC, very few persons are gonna do it I'd bet. There's always the option of the paddle too later on, so still doable and prolly even better than an electronic version? Overall the main advantage of the Elizabeth is to see the actual exact number in real time if it's that necessary to feel comfortable mentally 😅
    Still a good machine but I feel like many videos seems to show the Elizabeth as much better when I don't think it is, and I'm not saying this cause I think it looks ugly.
    I just pre-ordered a black edition of the MaraX for my GF for Christmas, can't wait to try it out even if it's not gonna beat the Bianca V3 that I just got for my mom, which honestly beats my R58 easily feature wise. I always laugh when people think 24min heat up time is the end of the world lol, the optimal perfect temperature stability on my Rocket is 45min lol.

    How would you compare the Elizabeth to the Bianca?

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 года назад +2

      Elizabeth is a cheaper version of Bianca. In bianca both boilers are stainless steel and having pressure profiling paddle is just a complete game changer.
      In other words Bianca is a much better build and better features if you have the money then by all means please get it.
      If you are not going to spend hours in the morning with your machine and prefer to press a button then Elizabeth is more than enough, also elizabeth probably easier to teach you spouse or partner how to use it. With a single button run and stop on its own.

  • @ardiwijaya

    Does shot profiling helps significantly in terms of espresso taste? as it can mimics the lever machine… what’s your thoughts on this? Asking this because MaraX allows mod for pedal on E61. Thanks and great video btw, keep it up!

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  2 года назад +3

      Hi the answer is YES. Pressure profiling only available in super high end machine such as La marzocco GS3 MP, Rocket R one, or other high end commercial machine. In my opinion having a paddle helps you dial in any new coffee much easier, for example, when you grind too fine just hold it longer at low pressure (2-4 bar) then when you see few first drop move paddle slowly until 9 bar. In contrast, electronic pre infusion in Elizabeth you have to decide in advance how many seconds, so if your pre infusion ends too early or too late then you can change in the next shot.
      However paddle sometimes hard to get the exact same profile compare to electronic, this is where Bianca takes the lead, Bianca has both paddle and electronic pre infusion + low flow. You can do with paddle first then program the profile electronically in its LCC. In a busy cafe Bianca will have great Electronic pressure profiling that is 100% repeatable.

    I make about 1-2 cappuccinos each day and I really love the look of the classic Mara X. However it seems like the Elizabeth is the better value machine for just a little extra. My question is...does all the added temperature control of the DB make much of a difference when I will be adding steamed milk to all of my drinks?? Thanks so much for the excellent vid

    • @kennyhills8002
      @kennyhills8002 3 года назад

      I think a more consistent espresso extraction will be beneficial for both milk drinks and Americano drinks. As the better the extraction the nicer the flavour of the shot. So a double boiler is way more beneficial for this reason.

    I need help on deciding between marax and Elizabeth. For me now, the difference or me is one can do flow profiling (upgrade kit), while the other can do customised preinfusion. Based on your experience with both machines, can you tell me do you yield better espresso taste on the Mara X using flow profiling or the Elizabeth while playing around with blooming and preinfusion. I also don’t really understand by using the steam boiler to preinfuse, wouldn’t the temperature be too hot?

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 года назад +3

      both machines with vibration pump has a nice slow pressure ramp up from 0 to 9 in about 8 seconds.
      Please bear in mind MaraX pressure paddle is about US$500.
      With wooden paddle you might want to upgrade wooden knob additional $120, and wood bottomless portafilter $100
      So in total about $720?
      You can get a Bianca with rotary pump all wood accessories provided and most important is double boiler stainlees steel.
      Dialing in with a paddle is a lot easier, i almost never throw my first espresso from a new bag.
      Taste wise, i'm not exactly Jeff Hofman so really can't comment much on this

    Great video, how would you compare the Elisabeth to Profitec pro 300?

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 года назад

      Hi i can't comment much because i have never used Profitec 300.
      However from the spec i can see it has PID but seem pretty limited where in Elizabeth so much you can do especially pre infusion.
      pro 300 has steam pressure gauge while in Elizabeth they only have coffeee brewing pressure gauge, which one is more important for you? hahaha...i personally think pump pressure gauge is more important for good extraction we don't want 11 bar of pressure.
      Steam pressure i can pro 300 about 1.2 bars in most video but more important is it able to sustain its pressure, some other brand loosing pressure and you won' be able to steam a second cappuccino.
      In Elizabeth rest assure its damn powerfull hahaha.... no manometer to prove but i can feel it for 145 degree it may go all the way to 2 bars.
      Pro 300 seem to have both stainless steel boiler, while Elizabeth using copper boiler for coffee brewing.
      Ulka pump in Pro300 is it a silent pump? for you to find out.
      Elizabeth silent vibration pump so quite. cheers

    Do you know why is happening this ? Thanks a lot !

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 года назад

      Hi pre-infusion actually control pump, so your pump stop working for 8 seconds then on again. However hot water will still pass through even though very low pressure.
      I suggest grind finer or add your dose

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 года назад

      Btw, i don't think after 5 seconds few drops falling is necessarily and indication that something is wrong. If you ever visited % arabica, they pre infuse quite long and coffee drips along the process, then they push to max pump pressure.

    I'm planning to buy a MaraX machine but notice that it takes so long to steam milk. Have you tried to set the temperature to very hot and steam the milk? If yes, so how long does it take? I meant 200-250 ml of milk or so, just a right amount for 1 cup of latte.

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  2 года назад +2

      Hi long or fast maybe important if you open a cafe seriously. A strong or fast steaming may not guarantee good result. For HX machines 1.5 bar of pressure is already the best in class.
      As you mention 200-250ml milk i assume you will use a 500ml pitcher, so anything stronger than 1.5 bar pressure will blow your milk out of the pitcher.
      Plesse enjoy the process, you waited for 25 minutes warm up, spend some good time to make your coffee there is no need to rush at all

As the group head is heated, it also dissipate heat, the Mara X group head, being the bigger one, will surely dissipate more heat. if you can measure the heat at the port filter, it will be the result we need, as no one brew coffee using the surface of the group head and both group head is not the same.

    What a fantastic video !
    No one has done a side by side comparison on these two machines - so it's great that you were brave enough to do it !
    I think it is very difficult to give a final winner. Here in London the price difference is £200
    I don't like the tiny brass boiler on the Elizabeth (not stainless steel) and the endless solenoid valves that will eventually need replacing.
    I do like the computerised LCC temperature adjustment and pre infusion control, fast heat up and general ease of use.
    Sooo much a better choice than a Breville / Sage dual boiler - but then you know how much I hate them !
    The MaraX is just going to keep going on for years and years - It's built big, tough & heavy - you'll probably need to replace the Olab pump after 5 years but that really is about it.
    It is not nearly as quick and easy to use as an Elizabeth, you've got to do more work to get a cup of coffee out of it.....but then it has the classical & magical Faema E61 chrome group head with an iconic lever.
    For me, purely emotionally, there is an obvious winner...
    Thanks for making the video !

      Hi! You pointed out very good differences here. I am about to buy an Elisabeth just for home purposes... but am unaware of the maintenance parts you likely will need to replace in the future as you mentioned... can you be more specific of your thoughts in terms of if this is very hard to do or other thoughts that might be worth knowing...?
      I really don’t want to buy a machine that won’t hold for a longer time. That would be a dealbreaker for me.
      but if we ask us the question “who is Mara for and who is Elisabeth for?”
      I really really don’t see anything that Mara does better than Elisabeth, either they are equally good or Elisabeth has the advantage of being flexible and stable with the dual boilers.
      From all that have tried both machines I have so far not heard anyone picking Mara over the other due to superior advantage in a certain features or quality in shots.
      However, the build quality is another fact... probably mara has the advantage there with a solid ss boiler instead of brass. Also it is very sophisticated with dual PID and much more.
      So is the answer that for those who want a good solid machine that is built like a tank that will live for decades and will provide good coffee without a mess/ fuss .... then they should pick Mara
      They can also experiment with flow control in the future...
      And for those who want better flexibility in terms of temperature stability change of temperature, stability of steam and more back to back lattes/cappuccinos espressos , faster starting time and easier maintenance should pick Elisabeth?
      😂😂 omg! Sorry for babbling on

    Have you made a comparison of the difference in taste of espresso shot only when being able to have longer pre infusion with Elizabeth? I wonder how much more of flavor / nuances of the coffee one get if your able to set the pre infusion longer than on Mara...?
    How long does it normally take for the first drop with medium roast beans on Mara with pretty fine grinding?
    Maybe impossible to answer exact time but just so I get an idea. Cause I’ve seen a lot of Elizabeth videos with pre infusion already:). Can one extend the pre infusion in Mara in some way?
    When comparing I believe this feature is one of the better features of Elizabeth to be able to experiment.... the ability to set exact temperature is good but for me I don’t se me doing that all the time in real life. I think I’ll like it in the beginning but leave it at 94 all the time.

    I have reciently learned som new stuff which leads me to think -" why do manufacturers even put the wand for water despensing (if the water is too hot for some beverages)?
    Tea for the late hours:
    Yes both Mara X and Elizabeth have this water outlet , but note that water on DB would be “fresher” and better tasting. On both machines hot water comes from steam boiler but on the HX this water comes from a larger quantity that's always boiling and has a “flat” taste, tea would express more floral/complexe notes with freshly heated water and on smaller boilers from DB steam boiler gets replenished with fresh water more often.
    So if this true, how hot is too hot for example an americano? If we say that tea would need cooler water and more refreshed is it the same for an americano?

      @AzizIzgin 3 года назад

    • @StefanusGoana
      @StefanusGoana  3 года назад +1

      Hi Iziz, a very good point of view about water freshness. For this problem basically even conventional double boiler we need to purge it once in awhile for fresh water to circulate.
      In Elizabeth though a little special it combine fresh water and hot water from boiler to create perfect temperature.
      Coffee is probably only 2% of the whole cup we drink, 98% is water, so no matter what water has huge impact on our coffee taste. The question now is how significant? your tongue and mine is different, so far i don't really taste much different to be honest, however it is good to know that your drinks is at the right temperature.
