Hey man I’m new to this type of technology but my friend is using in one of his kayak a Ebike Speed controller It seems to work good Do you think that will work with one of your set ups
Hobie makes some side stabilizers that are not that expensive. If you do need to add more support to the motors they might be a nice bolt on option.
Hoping to see an update?
Can’t wait to see you pick up where you left off!!!
Great progress! Thank you for the mention. 👍🏻👍🏻
Just watched your videos in this series and they are great! Can't wait to see how this all turns out.
I like this whole concept, especially done clandestinely. Can easily run one of these without other peopel noticing. Texas requires you to register and tag your kayak if it's motorized, so with this you can easily slip by all that hassle.
love the progress! can’t wait until the trials are done but i’ll be here every step of the way! keep up the amazing work thank you very much for keeping us in mind :)
Good job mate, its a ton of work. My twin motor kayak is 90 percent done. Will got in the water within 30 days
Looks like it's coming along nicely!
Right on brother, we appreciate your hard work and look forward to the next video. -

11:35 Best twist in a RUclips video ever. At first I’m like okay; 3D printed propellers is okay especially since she’s not going to go HAM on but when 11:35 came around. Man! All I can say it’s freaking awesome! Keep up the amazing work.
Man, that 3D printer would be nice to make some nose cones for your motors to possibly reduce some drag. Looks like you are having a lot of fun. Keep up the good work. Enjoyed the videos.
Some time back I did a lot of experimenting with electric propulsion and steering systems on the NuCanoe Frontier 12. My friend Phil Krug also did some experimenting with kayak electric propulsion systems and helped me with mine. When it comes to electronics Phil knows his stuff.
John
Any updates? I'd love to see you finish the process and the end results. Thanks.
Yes please. What was the final setup? Thanks
Yeah the video really misses the clue how it worked out!
I'm keen to see how this project go. 🤔👍
Can't wait for spring
Awesome projects. I have the same 3D printer. I added the Micro Swiss Direct Drive Extruder to mine as well as a glass bed.
I've been watching you kayak videos, and I can honestly say I'm impressed with the progress you've made.
In one of the videos you mentioned the Pelican like case was a bit warm. Perhaps setting up a small solar panel on the top of the case with maybe a 1/4" space in between, you might help to reduce the chance of solar heating of the case, and use that same energy to recharge the batteries.
I thought I knew a lot until I saw your videos.. thx for all you do
Dude, you have way too many cool tools!
My first gander at your web site. Great fun! like your easy manner and you aren't a lip flapper. Great! Look forward to checking out your content.
This is exactly what I would love to do with my Hobie Mirage Outback!
Patiently waiting for the next video about these.....
It will happen. Sorry for the long wait
@@TheGoodoftheLand
No worries, thanks so much for all the work and sharing the process? I just got a new fishing kayak and I would love to take your diy approach rather than break the bank on a torqueedo.
@@TheGoodoftheLand Hoping for an update on the kayak motors. Any chance it still will happen? Thanks!
Yes sir. Stay tuned. It will be on a new outdoor dedicated channel. I will produce a video with links to the new channel soon.
Been following your posts intently. As a hobie fisherman the holy grail of motorizing my kayak is the ability to get more range and decent speed out of any motor setup (6-7 miles per hour) Not looking to set any speed records but something better then a trolling motor. Disappointing that you have chosen to go away from the drop in cassette idea because that concept minimizes having to modify or cut into your expensive kayak. Every kayaks stern is different, your wife’s hobie is totally different from my hobie compass. Will be watching with interest to see what you come up with. Great work!
Getting all Marth Stewart at 1:35. I did not know this channel now included cooking😆
Any updates? Love this! Can't wait to see a wrap up for all this! Wifey and upgraded our yaks last year and I'm holding off on trolling motors until you wrap it up!
Awesome 3d printer and that would be cool on farming and making more parts
great idea.. thanks for sharing
Awsome prop
That looks cool with twin props 👌 @TheGoodOfTheLand
I'm still waiting on this
Craig has an amazing channel @MCEngineering @TheGoodOfTheLand
Making the motors to fold up would be a good idea !
just a quick tip if you make the props a little thinner and actually sharpen the leaning edges you will gain a lot of efficiency as it will take less effort to cut/slice thru the water.
Them custom made props are sweet justin @TheGoodOfTheLand
You could keep the motors on a light springed hinge with feeler bars that wouldn't affect water flow much, so if they hit an obstruction the mount flips up on the force of the impact, without having to do it manually.
A cowling around the propeller helps direct the water and protects the blades.
Awesome progress justin @TheGoodOfTheLand
Have you looked at the e bike controllers? 3 phase motors. Looking to use my bike battery for my build/ 52v 17.5ah.
An impeller style cover might help protect the props.
That 3d printer can also manufacture array trays for your 18v cordless batteries!
How about an aluminum hub with printed slide in blades.
Cheers, Lee
Very Nice
Awesome
Maybe try differential thrust to steer!? But then you would need that additional support system.
where is the video with the acual test of those motors? i would love to adopt a simular system and am curious to see how well it works.
Any updates? Just about to order a fishing kayak and would love to avoid some cost of the motor
Have you considered getting with AvE and his mill to make some of these metal parts?
Can we get more of this?
Awesome Job man. Love it. But I keep wanting to see the next video in the series!
Muy frágil!
Do you think you can make plans for a trolling motor type mount ???
We have a car only. Cannot have hard kayak. We need inflatable 16ft 2 person.
How did this project go?
What site did you say to buy those batteries from? Not sure if it was on this video or another one I watched on ur channel. Thanks and awesome work
Great idea, would you sell brackets for mounting motors ? I could do the work but no shop . I would definitely need motor for a yak ,I have back, leg issues but I want to fish the upper hudson river !
New question, I assume this is fresh water set-up, any plans for a salt watet option? i.e aluminium free
I would love to buy one for my Hobie PA14 but I am wondering if this project was ever completed?
I love this stuff!! But the links are not working can you update them for us please. Thanks.
Without a bottom connection into the transom, won’t you get a differential torque when she puts it in reverse or turns?
Did you do a test with this?
Can you buy the twins troller and change those 2 motor for faster one?
would this midification still work with a rooftop kayak carrier?
Mr Cool! 😎
I think I'd consider opposite pitch props and spin them in opposite directions.
I could one here in south Texas
Any updates on this project?
can you 3D print cones to streamline both motors..??
very interesting what laws about motor kayaks. gasoline or electricity what insurance and where is the ocean or lake
Love this entire concept! Maybe one day could apply to boat transom. I fish in local reservoir electric only with a 14ft aluminum. Takes forever on a windy day with 55lb thrust trolling. Torquedo expensive, all other options unknown from China. 48v system or variable voltage would be preferred simply because I have e-scooter LifeP04 20amh could transfer. Keep cost under 1k (excluding battery) motors, mount ,esc , ...."kit". Get this over 200lb thrust and have a winner! Super trolling motor!!!!!!!
+1 for a transom variant! this would be absolutely revolutionary for inflatable rafts/small boats!!
How do I contribute? I like what you are doing with kayaks. When is the next update?
How did this end up turning out?
How do you keep water out of the motors?
I wish I had what you had
Maybe I missed something. But why are you not using model boat props? I have some in stainless. Some in bronze. Plastic(obviously not strong enough.
Since you are building props I wonder if you can have your motors counter rotating?
he would have to do that to keep it from pushing slightly towards one side. Its DC current , so in motors , you just reverse the polarity on one engine and it should rotate the blade the opposite direction but the blade pitch also needs to be reversed.
any updates on this motor build??
Any update on this project?
2:08 What's with the pulsing of the drill?
I have a neighbor that does this with his electric weedeater... So annoying!
hi what battery's are they mate
Hello, good channel! What is this motor?
Are you going to make cones to streamline the motors?
he can easily print a lightweight hydrodynamic water cap that can be bolted to the top of the motor. great idea!
Any updates?
Looks like the aluminum donation pitch is backwards from yours but super talented build.
Maybe try hollering at “smalltownbassin” about prop design... been following his kayak prop builds for a while... prototypes to production
Just got back from a long vacation and thanks for the reminder!! i'm ordering a couple from him for a newport vessels trolling motor
To get better result, let 1prop turn the other way.
Let's go!!!!
Why not use one prop going clockwise and the other go counter clockwise?
Really looking forward for further videos on this one and the other build you did Justin. I've had withdrawal symptoms from eagerly following these now when they came out last year :D
One question for you, how do you feel a li-ion battery pack would fare instead of lipo? I have a lot of 18650 cells and mini spot welder for making up packs and I think they might be good for this application in a decent size pack?
Have you tried RC Aircraft three bladed pusher props instead of those ducted fan blades, as the triple bladed props work more efficiently, as you can adjust them by cutting them down .
Check out ,The Tesla Catamaran.
At time line 1:00:3 and he explains about the props, good luck.
Why aren't they counter (or contra) rotating???
Please update your links. If they go 404 we can’t follow the project.
apparently there will be no continuation, could you at least say these motors(yellow) are good pulling or not even worth buying? what speed did you manage to develop? =)
Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to make a shroud around the props rather than machining aluminum props?
CNC PEICE WITH SS PROPS
Are you going to re visit this project mate ? Cheers
Yes, it's been grinding at me that I never finished it.
@@TheGoodoftheLand Would love to see another episode. Been following it from the get go and would love to learn from more of your mistakes 😂😂 cheers from NZ!
Your go fund me link isn't working. Also the prop link to aliexpress is broken! Great video Justin. You are making great progress on this project!! Stay Safe. Stay Healthy!
Thanks I pinned the link in the first comment.
Yea what happen to this project ???
whatever happened to this project?
hallo can u hear me now?say why couldn't u use some sort of rubber pieces to absorb the shocks???and you could drill through the kayak to put a light weight metal sheet on the inside for stengthen the piece on the outside.just a thought.oh and if u can get some aircraft metal.it's lighter.but stronger.hey how can i get in touch with you.i got a great idea for PROP.OKIE DOKIE?
I am not too fond of pins, they are prone to not providing a tight fit, with a nut & bolt you can tighten down and with nylock its not going to move. I suppose you can use a split pin.
where can i find a pair of props like those ?
That's one of the problems. I can't find the replacement. I broke the. Both bef5i could get them in the water. Very frustrating. They came with the motor.
Twin ? Ok ..but put 2 powerfull twins. The first motor ..put 2 ..ahahahahahaha good work
Didn't know kayaks had motor options...
Bro u look like Walter whites brother in law
THIS VIDEO IS ALL OVER THE PLACE!
AND 15 MINUTES LONG!
