    Tip for welding aluminum. Always clean surfaces with acetone before welding, even if it looks clean. Wipe your feed rods with acetone as well. It's a good idea to also use a wire brush or green scotchbrite pad where you plan to weld just to make sure surface residue is gone. For areas that will be welded don't mix materials with abrasives, meaning abrasives used on aluminum should only be used with aluminum. Taper the amps at the end of the weld to prevent suck-back (can be source of cracks). Turn up your post flow time to at least 5 seconds, I usually use 7 seconds minimum at 17-25 cfh.
    I like using the foot pedal with aluminum because there's a small temp difference between a good consistent weld and having it blow out. Every time you dip the rod it sucks heat out of the weld and can cause it to re-solidify so I usually manually pulse to keep it in the sweet spot. But overall starting out on the thicker material is definitely easier and will help get the basics down with minimal issues.

      Yes this looks so much easier than picking up a free jetski and taking the jet drive off it...
      Dumb shit. Once you figure in the time and special equipment 99% of people would need to do this, this jet drive probably cost $10k instead of $5k and I am not sure where he's getting his jetdrives from but you can get them cheaper than $5k

    Just ran across your channel and love the build and I’m not trying to be one of those people but the force of water going thru that pump I’m afraid will blow those wood screw out pretty quickly, I would also glass the plywood box in a little more on the inside and secure the alum. plate on the bottom. Don’t underestimate the power of water. Again I like the build

    When grinding aluminium with abrasive tools a little bit of candle wax helps a lot to prevent it from clogging up and start smearing the aluminium instead of cutting it. Just dab it onto the tool once in a while.
    When hack sawing the blades might tend to stick and jump so a little cutting fluid, ethanol or WD40 helps and same goes for rotary filing and any blade cutting.

    • @SkypowerwithKarl
      @SkypowerwithKarl 2 года назад +3

      Just be really sure you get all the wax off that’s burnished, entrapped or impregnated into the aluminum before you try to weld it.

    Always so impressed with your skill set. For that being your first aluminum welding project, you sure picked a challenging one. That said, you are doing great as you always do! Always use lots of sealant on all mated surfaces and on any screws sunk, a dab in the hole before you screw it in. Of course you know this so I apologize for my two cents of advice🤗 What a cool project👏

    superb job on tackling this project, As you have found out welding aluminium requires very meticulous cleaning I use a spray solvent from Loctite SF 7070. It works very well dry's fast and cleans off any grease and contamination perfectly. I even use it to wipe the rods down as well its surprising how dirty they are from the drawing processes.

    (Sharing my expertise since you share yours)
    The camera settings on the Timelapse isn’t really the source of the problem what I think you’re seeing is banding from the LED lights.
    You can fix it by using a slower shutter speed or matching it to the hz of the lights.
    Filming weddings I have to deal with that all the time and it’s annoying lol
    Slowing the shutter speed on a Timelapse will actually give beneficial results too as you can start to introduce some natural motion blur.
    Love the content dude! Keep up the good work

    I work in a fab shop, ten years now. I will fight anyone that says your not a master fabricator.👍 BTW welding aluminum is a pain in the ass. Ever if you've done it for years and year's. One of my welders tells me, for him it welds better when the tungsten is more rounded, rather than sharp.🤙

    Aluminium forms an oxide layer almost instantly that interferes with welding so you should grind or wire brush it of around the welding areas right before welding. You may want to wipe it of with alcohol as well as the plastic film might have left some residue on the surface.

    • @SilvaDreams
      @SilvaDreams Год назад

      Most would say acetone since it will remove any oils better than alcohol... And some welders would say it's pointless but they are likely ones doing shitty welds.

Got a ton of equipment but became disabled, might be able to slowly build cool stuff though when the body allows.. anyway I'm glad the younger generation is getting into the makersphere... so many people don't know how to build ANYTHING, cant even assemble an IKEA furniture, seems like actual crafting is becoming a dying art.

    Ik had niet verwacht dat je dat zelf zou maken, top hoor👍en dat aluminium lassen gaat je goed af, ik weet dat dat niet zo makkelijk is, complimenten weer👍😊

    Cool trial run.
    With a more powerful engine,
    I would consider putting a couple of heavy duty bearings on that shaft.
    Great craftsmanship
