  • Hi guys thanks for checking out my step by step instructions while doing my hobie cassette watersnake motor mod. Wanted to make a straight to the point no fluff talk video.
    This is not my original idea but wanted to record it first person view for the benefit of anyone considering doing it as most other videos only show snippets.
    If you found this beneficial please show us some love and subscribe for more content to come including on the water review.

    Just finished building mine (well, still need to put it in the water ...) but thanks for the step by step. I did use the head unit to scribe my notch and hole template. Good suggestions. I also used a 3/4' pvc with a notch (made it like a rudimentary spoon) and slid it in the metal shaft to protect the wires from the initial drill puncture through the metal. I also used the collet that was supplied for under the water, and took the transom mount and cannibalized it (took the sleeve part off and used it as an upper collet). Therefore, I can raise and lower (say, to the tune of 10-12cm up or down) depending on the depth of my water while the lower collet assures that my prop doesn't hit the yak. The pipe cutter is crucial. I borrowed one, but knowing how easy and clean the cut was, I would buy one if I had to. Good luck to all who venture this route, and it is certainly worth the time, if you wish to pay ~$150 rather than $1000+ for the Bixpy. BTW, the salt watersnake is on sale right now (12/29/2022) on Amazon for $92!

    I bought this motor with the transom mount from BCF today to go on a 3 Waters Big Fish 120 in the same way. The 120 has a removable pod and the motor fits through the lower slot in the hull perfectly. Ive just got to work out wether to shorten it like you did but have the controls on or near my seat or put it in whole and just turn the top around 180* so the controls face me. One good thing about it going in whole is I can retract it up into the hull when Im in shallow water without having to take anything off.

      @@outbackshadz3809 Got it sorted and it works a treat. I had to buy a rudder, the ass was all over the place. Didn't have to cut anything, only turned the top of the Watersnake around 180*.

    One thing you could do is find a minn kota variable speed header controll unit and swap it out with the 2 speed watersnake. I think that would give you better battery life and ability to finetune your speed.

    There is person in Miami, makes custom cassette. $99 on eBay. I didn’t cut my motor shaft. Took head off, put shaft thru hole in cassette. Put motor head back on. I added a hose clamp to motor shaft. I plan on adding pvc pipe to handle. It’s too short for my 2011 PA14. T24 works great in fresh and saltwater.

    Great video. Question: is there any significant difference between the cassette you have here (grey/black) vs. the other common one (all black)? Yours looks more substantial but I’m not sure if that’s the case. I just wonder if one is more beefy or rigid than the other. Thank you.

  • @clintroberts1
    @clintroberts1 3 года назад

    Why not just put the adapter on top to keep it from sliding down. Also wouldn't it make sense to keep the motor turnable so you can adjust it to pull sideways says if you caught a large fish and it started pulling the kayak sideways

    • @outbackshadz3809
