- I've decided to compare the experience of doing a Black Mages only playthrough in Final Fantasy games. This means I need to do a black mages only run in some Final Fantasy Games. That continues this week with Final Fantasy 5.

“The classes include black mage; the only one that matters” is very funny to me
6:40 earthquake under the sea could cause a rapid change in water displacement making a whirlpool for sure. loving the video brother
Drain goes through reflect, so that could've been an option if you wanted to beat Necrofobe's barrier drones.
Or buy and put a reflect ring on one party member and bounce spells off of that.
Oh yeah, I completely forgot that drain bypasses reflect. Good thing that boss is optional.
These are so entertaining. Started a BM only FF1 run today
Awesome. Hope the run goes well. I really enjoyed the run (despite my complaining).
Most of the world 1 fights past megissa can be won by breaking rods. It's so good that I got sad when you didn't break ice rods against purobolos
14:06 lol i love how campy this game is
The cutscene remover most likely in the speedrunning community
Yeah, it's probably available in a discord server or something. But eventually couldn't be bothered to keep looking.
How come you didn't do a video on Final Fantasy 3 with black mages only?
as the number 1 FF3 enjoyer I say its because it would be agony. for example!
first real dungeon of the game you only have access to Blizzard, Sleep, Cure, and Poisona and only the first two can be used by Black Mages. and you would need to give them a bow and arrow in the back row for maximized survival (back row cuts physical damage in half). you can find holy arrows in the castle, but i'm not sure how many (in the PR version arrows are infinite and you only need to equip one but i'm pretty sure you can't split it)
one Black Mage would have the single Blizzard you find, which is best saved for the boss since the Djinn's cave is full of undead enemies while the Djinn himself is weak to Ice, you find Wind items to cast ice magic in his cave and the tutorial one (if you didn't use them on the Tortoise which is easy to manage anyways) for big bonus damage (personally I save those for the Fire Salamander at the Fire Crystal but thats besides the point)
another would have the holy arrows to deal bonus damage while the other two would have wooden ones (assuming you can't split stacks) so you would have to resort to using potions(for healing and damaging enemies) and arrows to get by until the boss if you want to maximize your damage output against him.
Toad and Mini sections also pose a slight problem but toad just requires creative thinking to get around (basically using it, changing the white mage back to black mage and then using Maiden's Kiss to fix the party when you're in the dungeon) and Mini can be easily solved with the Mallet item that lets you cause and cure Mini but since Mini sections require magic damage in the first place its more of a non-issue.
this is just a small example and there are surely other issues later in the game (Garuda for example will wipe the party unless you spam Dragoon's Jump) especially since Magic Damage will have a falloff in the second half before you get the Magus job which might not be allowed for the challenge even though its a direct upgrade
now that i think about it HP would also be an issue since its the only stat affected by what job you use on Character Level Up and i'm pretty sure Black Mage HP growth isn't good but I haven't checked tbh.
the entire playthrough would be a 2-steps-forward 1-step-back ordeal (you get more spells and more ways around spell charges via Staves! but the game's difficulty curve and occasional spikes will rear their heads) and the party would effectively be Glass Cannons that trip over everything
Yes a another video
Every Friday!
From my understanding the weirdness comes from the attempt to feel more like a comedic fairytale most of the time. It almost writes like a shonen fairytale anime
"aging out of the job"...I am looking at you ff3.
> .>
Its doable IF you get 200,000 gil IMMEDIATELY IE buy 4x Flame rings in order to HEAL but using Fire 2 spells on yourself BUT the PHYSICAL side of the Forking tower is impossible so completely SKIP it.
Yea nothing suspicious about the speedrunning community hiding things on a discord.
?
@@leargamma4912 making fun of a community I thing little of.
Why skip ff3?
Game sucks
Ok it isn't a bad game, that's a joke. But ff3 is weird in that it expects you to replace your jobs with objectively better jobs. Unlike ff5 where every job has utility from start to finish
@@megatennepster3833 I mean the Balancing a is a bit rough (only played the DS Remake version which is Notoriously even harder) But still really enjoy it. Figured that it's a Massive blind spot in the series. They probably did attempt it, but failed at some point and cancelled the project cause I believe there is one fight that it basically makes you play Dragoon.
@@megatennepster3833 some jobs have direct upgrades but thats a weird complaint. probably a hold over from the promotion concept in FF1 tho (there was a scrapped third upgrade to the warrior in 3 that would have existed solely to use Excalibur, but they scrapped it which is why you get Excalibur like a few rooms before the better sword Ragnarok)
bluemage run?
Would definitely want to do so as a one-off, since blue mage isn't really a class in any other game. Blue Mage is my favorite class.
