Here is a fun broken magic thing you could've done. Get a reflectga Mote (or reflect rings), target self with AOE spells and hit the party. Each character basically hits the boss with 3 spells per cast. So each round is 9 spells instead of 3. Add the elemental buff staves give to magic, and you get massive damage super early with even Aero (Cherry staff buffs wind damage). This was insanely busted in the original version, but would need all your party to be Black Mages in this version... which is no real issue for this challenge
This is my strat for beating the first Demon Wall on it's first encounter. I know we can't get the Demonsbane sword in ZA afterwards, but it's fun to do it anyways.
@@ThisIsntARUclipsr one time, I forgot to unequip that one ring that has you pierce reflect (Opal?) and destroyed my own party with a Firaga. Good times
Tbh this may be the only FF that I actually enjoyed grinding. I remember leaving that desert feeling like a boss. And the jungle and foggy swamp. Really enjoyed this game.
"What is the deal with Final Fantasy and sky fortresses?" Sky fortresses are cool. I love sky fortresses. I literally can't think of any reason NOT to have a sky fortress if you have the ability to have sky fortresses.
People hate on FF12 because it was different, but I honestly loved this game. The progression reminded me a lot of the sphere grid from FF10, which was my first mainline FF game growing up, and the combat and gambit systems were really fun and engaging to me. I think a lot of people skipped over this game entirely because of the combat, and they missed out on one of the greatest FF stories ever made.
The lore is interesting but the main plot is really boring, as almost nothing happens at any point. Just like FFXIII, the story sounds better when reading a wiki or the in-game encylopaedia than when playing the actual game and learning through gameplay and cutscenes.
I don't think it fair to dismiss other's feelings/opinions on the game just because they run opposed to your own. FFXII is very unique, but (especially on release, since the Zodiark edition fixed a lot of the problems) there's pretty legit problems one could have with the way it operates and especially the story can be hit or miss for a lot of the run
FFXII is my favorite FF but it is kind of an "acquired taste". Oddly enough the world and the gameplay was what got me hooked. The story is definitely the weakest part but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.
As soon as you get tge Dawn Shard, you can enter the Zertinan Caverns and steal Opal Rings from the Genade monsters there. Opal Rings let you pierce through the Reflect status which will spare your sanity in this kind of run. You could also do a Black Mage only run of Final Fantasy X-2 ❤️
Few years after the original is out on PS2, Square then revamped the system into Zodiac Age and sell it. That version is the one getting the remake for PS4.
Not me thinking you meant you were just playing FFXII music BY the Black Mages (the band). Was honestly looking forward to seeing how many FFXII songs TBM played. xD
It was actually refreshing to see magic be so strong in this game. It feels like magic spells in a lot of FFs and RPGs of late have been kinda disappointing. I think after I got to Phon Coast, my black mage (Ashe) started vastly outdamaging most of my party and basically became a party fixture even more than my white mage (Penelo) was. I had to actively swap her out and slow progression down because she was just eating up EXP and not sharing with Fran or Basch who would've normally taken turns with her.
@Xephrost_Gaming yeah quickenings sucked in the og and you are right you couldn't control espers in the og outside of their final move i think. Square enix had a history of thinking we were to stupid to comprehend different things. Mystic quest being a prime example of that. Also! Really well done video! Was super enjoyable to watch😊😁
Somewhere around 2009 I did a really fun challenge on IZJS, the Japanese version of FF12. It was the White Mage only challenge. I completed the whole game including all hunts, bosses and espers. There was no excessive levelling allowed; in fact, I kept to the levels recommended for each area by the Piggyback guide. This meant using the firefly accessory a lot. Until you reached the Mosphoran Highwaste there were only two fireflies available in the game so I would always have two characters wearing them. As a character levelled up I would switch them for the lowest levelled character. All characters were levelled up together meaning characters were always within one level of each other. I completed the main game around level 43 and only then did I allow myself to level up for the likes of Zodiark who I took on at level 73. Along with levels 49 and 91, these are the best levels for fighting Zodiark and Zalera as you dodge all the level-? attacks. If you want a fun challenge try the White Mage only. Just one added rule if you're playing the TZA version. You may NOT access trial mode for any reason. All equipment comes from the main game. The Seitengrate Bow is also not allowed to be used in the challenge. I'll add this snippet. When I levelled up for Zodiark I did it using the Abysteels in the Henne Mines. From level 43 it was a constant bloodbath which only began to ease in severity around level 60. Talk about savage!
I am starting a mage only challenge run, so this is interesting to come across in the algorithm. I am not going as extreme as black mage only, but every combo of black white red and time as that makes 6 combos, and there happens to be 6 characters.
I use the sand sea with all the circular platforms for money gathering and kill chains as high as you can want. Just do a big circle and only kill the insect people and when you go back by the exit to the other sand sea there is a rare game that also adds to the chain
Its been awhile since Ive played. However, Im pretty sure that mote spells go through reflect. So those definetly could have helped. I usually farm aeroga motes in the Lhusu mines and use them against the first demon wall. Another thing that COULD have helped, though Im not sure how you could get access to it is reflect on your own party members. Spells only reflect once, so any enemy with reflect on could be beat by simply reflecting magics on yourself/ team mates. Im sure there are spots you can farm reflect/reflectaga motes in the game. But both require farming respawning item locations and it seems obvious to me youre only interested in beating the game as fast as possible for the videos. :)
Oh, you are very right. Motes do bypass reflect and I really wish I'd remembered that while recording, but I absolutely did not until you commented. Gonna have to remember that for future runs, because motes may be integral to some challenges I have planned. And yeah, while farming motes could help, it would almost certainly be slower than doing other things. And I do have to keep my playthroughs pretty brisk to put out a video every week. But any info on where motes respawn may be very important for future runs.
Espers did go from crap in vanilla to (mostly) worthwhile in ZA. I managed to beat Vayne the Undying in under 30 seconds with Exodus since his Comet & Meteor attacks bypass magic immunity/physical immunity (but not both at the same time), and Exodus is typically overlooked because of how random his damage output is.
I did a magic only run on my channel a few months ago. Being able to break the damage limit in the ZA really helps 😂. Especially with hunts like Yiamat. I'd still say that the dragon pair in the Zertinan caverns are the toughest enemy in game. Also oil+ fire magic is pretty broken in this game. You'll do triple damage with fire magic. Defeating Shenhazie allows you black mage to equip mirror mail. Giving you easy access to auto reflect. Another way to bounce triple spells off your whole party. To solve your healing issue for the last boss. Why not absorb an elemental spell? They are party wide. Maybe the black mask and dark motes?
Can someone do a only randomness run ? : weapons : axe, hammer, "throw bomber" / skills as "random magic", "clock spell" (Forgot The English Names) / items as "rock" (FTEN), dark matter ?

My issue with the default license grid is that everyone having easy access to every license tends to make each character less distinct. If white magic is easily acceptable, just teach everyone white magic, for example. So the characters can feel very similar. That isn't the case when you have distinct jobs layered over their character stats.
That is true. With 2 jobs in the remaster it's like 7k-9k depending on overlap compared to 13k in the original. However, a decent portion of the 13k is the bottom half of the grid which would be weapons/armor not relevant to a character's build (really only need 1 weapon and 1 armor group for each character). That weapon/armor is also true a bit with 2 jobs. But you get more than enough LP in a single playthrough to make every character good at everything in the original.
My problema with ff12 is that if you dont study guides ypu would miss 70% of all gear and stuff so half yput guys would be runnin store bought items.
